AP News, I'm Iupin Juani. AP correspondent Talzdal Adesima reports that U.S. worries efforts undertaken on AI by China could undermine national security. China's official news agency, citing the foreign ministry, says the two sides would take up issues including the technological risks of AI and global governance. The National Security Council at the White House comments the U.S. team is being led by presidential advisor and senior director for technology and national security, Taran Shabra, and at the state department's acting special envoy for critical and emerging technologies, Seth Centre. Shooting in Alabama at a May Day party hurt people and killed three. In an interview Baldwin County Sheriff's Captain Andre Reed says the shooting at the party left 18 people injured. They are at different hospitals, some in Florida, some of them are mobile, and so we just took us a little bit to make sure that we had everyone accounted for. A police officer was ambushed in Ohio. AP correspondent Donna Warder reports on that. Police in the Cleveland suburb of Euclid say officers went to a home Saturday night after a woman reported that her child's father was threatening to harm her and her mother. They say the suspect, 24-year-old Deshawn Vaughn, opened fire on the officers in the backyard. At a news conference carried by W.E.W.S., Euclid police chief Scott Myers says one officer identified as Jacob Durbin who was with the department less than a year was hit and died at a hospital. His kind heart and enormous smile were infectious. The world was a better place with him in it and he will be desperately missed by all who knew him. U.S. Marshals say they were able to track down Vaughn at an apartment about 10 miles away in Shaker Heights where there was a standoff. They say Vaughn later was found dead inside. They haven't said how he died. This is AP News. There are concerns over interest rates in an upcoming inflation report. The government will release April's inflation report this Wednesday. Economists are forecasting it will show inflation has declined a tenth of a percent from March to about 3.4 percent. Inflation has been inching up since January after declining sharply last year, raising concerns about stalled progress. Analysts say part of the issue may be that Americans are spending less than 10 percent of their after tax income servicing debt. Millions of Americans refinanced when rates were low. Condomist Gennady Goldberg with TD security says the average rate for a new 30-year mortgage is nearly 7.1 percent, but the average rate on all outstanding mortgages is just 3.8 percent, the highest gap since the 1980s. Neil Kashkari, president of the Federal Reserve's Minneapolis branch, says it may take longer for the Fed's rate hikes to be felt.
