He's in serious condition this morning, but stable, a suspect in custody. Officials say the suspect's motivation was political. What to expect? Now, the President Biden and former President Trump have agreed to hold two campaign debates, one on June 27th and the other on September 10th. AP White House correspondent Zeke Miller. Both Donald Trump and Joe Biden believe that in a head-to-head debate with the other guy, that they will come out looking better and that both of those things can't be true, but that reflects their private confidence. And that's manifesting itself through the campaigns and then through the timing of these debates. The AP's Zeke Miller. Donald Trump's hush money trial resumes today with star prosecution witness Michael Cohen back on the stand. The AP's Julie Walker is covering the trial in New York. The prosecution star witness and its last witness in Donald Trump's hush money trial back in the hot seat as defense lawyers try to chip away at Michael Cohen's crucial testimony, implicating the former president in a scheme to buy negative stories about him to sway the 2016 election. Trump says not so. It's unclear if he or anyone else will take the stand for the defense. Julie Walker, New York. Russia's president Putin is in China where he's thanking Xi Jinping for ideas about how to resolve the war in Ukraine. The AP is Jennifer King. Russian president Vladimir Putin is in China for a state visit. Chinese president Xi Jinping formally welcomed him on Thursday. Russia has become more economically dependent on China since it invaded Ukraine two years ago. The US military is now finished installing a floating pier for the Gaza Strip. It will allow much needed humanitarian aid to flow into the area ravaged by the Israel Hamas war. This is AP News. The famous Mirage Casino in Las Vegas is closing. The AP is Lisa Dwyer. The iconic Mirage Hotel Casino on the Las Vegas Strip will shut its doors on July 17th. It marks the end of an era for a property credited with helping to transform Sin City into an ultra luxury resort destination. The closure will clear the way for major renovations and construction on the property. It is expected to reopen in 2027 as the Hard Rock Las Vegas with a 700 foot hotel tower in the shape of a guitar. The Mirage opened in 1989 as the Strip's first mega resort and its success ushered in a huge building boom through the 1990s. I'm Lisa Dwyer.
