This is AP News. I'm Rita Folle. Fear's thunderstorms hit parts of Texas hard again. Houston's mayor says at least four people are dead. Trees are down, power knocked out for thousands. No one was occupied. Occupying it at the time, but it's the large tall office buildings in the central district that have lost a lot of their windows and glass all over the streets downtown. Trucks carrying badly needed aid for the Gaza Strip have rolled across a floating pier newly built by the U.S. into the besieged enclave for the first time. This is part of an operation that military officials anticipate could scale up to 150 truckloads a day entering the Gaza Strip as Israel presses in on the southern city of Rafa. It's seven-month offensive against Hamas raging on. Before the war, more than 500 truckloads entered Gaza on an average day. Israeli restrictions on board crossings and heavy fighting, hinder food and other supplies reaching people there. I'm Charles Dilladesma. New figures show that San Diego is the busiest corridor for illegal crossings into the U.S. Those are figures for the month of April. Many migrants say San Diego is the easiest and least dangerous place to enter the United States. Now to the individual arrests of American tourists in the Turks and Caicos Islands. The AP's Lisa Dwyer has this story. Five Americans are facing prison sentences of up to 12 years in the Turks and Caicos Islands on charges that they illegally carried ammunition while in the popular tourist destination about 600 miles southeast of Miami. Three of those arrests have prompted pleas for mercy from the governors of Oklahoma, Pennsylvania and Virginia who say the three inadvertently had ammunition in their luggage. The British territory significantly tightened its gun laws in 2022. While the island's courts do have sentencing discretion for exceptional circumstances, by law, they cannot just pay a fine. That means that the Americans may not get 12 years in prison, but they also likely won't be able to just pay a fine and then just return home. I'm Lisa Dwyer. I'm Rita Foley, AP News.
