AP News, I'm Jackie Quinn, former Donald Trump attorney Michael Cohen is back on the witness stand in Trump's hush money trial in New York. Defense attorneys are trying to discredit his testimony. Our Julie Walker is more on Trump's defenders at the courthouse today. Standing back and standing by Mr. President, that's what Representative Matt Gates wrote on social media. The proud boys have used that slogan, outside court, Gates criticizing the trial. This is a made up crime. No other American in the country would be charged with this type of crime. It's like the Mr. Potato had doll of crimes, where they had to stick together a bunch of things that did not belong together. About a dozen Republican lawmakers were there, including Representative Lauren Boebert at Criminal Court in Manhattan. I'm Julie Walker. President Biden is endorsing the formal move to reclassify marijuana as a less dangerous drug, putting it below heroin and LSD where it is now. This is monumental. Today, my administration took a major step to reclassify marijuana from a Schedule I drug to a Schedule III drug. There's a battle brewing over Attorney General Merrick Garland, refusing to release tapes of President Biden being questioned in his classified documents case. House Speaker Mike Johnson suggesting the White House has something to hide. They obviously confirm what the special counsel has found and would likely cause, I suppose, in his estimation, such alarm with the American people that the President is using all of his power to suppress their release. Slovak authorities have charged a man with attempting to assassinate Prime Minister Robert Ficco. Our Karen Thomas reports. Your Minister, Matus Sutaj Estok, said that the investigation found that the assassination was clearly a politically motivated act. There's been a bad crash on I-17 year Denver. Traffic is still disrupted. This is AP News. The federal government has released new moves found by the Census Bureau. Detroit finally gained more population last year while cities in the South continue to grow. Those are some of the highlights from the latest U.S. Census Bureau report released today. Detroit, Michigan's largest city, had dwindled down to a third of its former population of 1.8 million. But last year, Motor City added close to 2,000 new residents, Mayor Mike Dugan tells the AP. Today, we've been waiting for for 10 years. The government estimates show America's Northeast and Midwest cities are rebounding slightly after years of population drops. The exodus from New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago has slowed and San Francisco actually added more than 1,200 residents. The big growth has been mostly in the South, which had 13 of the 15 fastest growing cities, eight of them in Texas. San Antonio added 22,000 residents. Fort Worth, Charlotte, North Carolina, and Jacksonville, Florida also saw gains. California for King Washington. And I'm Jackie Quinn, AP News. Summer is meant to be easy. It's meant to be savored.
