[MUSIC PLAYING] Fan Morning Show Sports at 5.9 of the fan, Ben and his friend, Gunning, that sound before sunrise in Louisville, Kentucky, outside of Valhalla Golf Club, as Scotty Scheffler was detained. I don't know if you can call him technically arrested, but like, using handcuffs in the back of a cop car. There are reports that he did, in fact, go to jail, has subsequently been released. This coming on the heels of apparently some tragedy outside of the grounds of Valhalla before round two of the PGA championship, where someone was killed, it sounds like by a shuttle bus that ran them over. Like, insanity headed into round two of the second major of the year. Nuts, just flat out nuts. You expect, you know, little weird stuff to happen at a major, but like weird golf stuff. This is not so high. You couldn't have picked a golfer that would have had me for more floored by this story. And you couldn't have picked a golfer that's more at the heart of the major to begin with. Like, god, from a news perspective, incredible. Yeah, and it was happening in real time for us in the six o'clock hour, which you never get breaking news during the Morning Show. Well, didn't it work out perfectly that we got it in the break? So we had time-- like, the worst of that would have been you reading that on air and being like, is that real? Wow. Oh, god. Yeah, we got it in the break. Then we had a full, sorry, Blue Jays. We had a full block open to discuss it there. Worked out wonderfully. Let's see how our next guest is digesting this. It is Sam McKee, a real kipper and born and Leafs talk in the golf show with Brent Gunning. What's up, buddy? I'm ruined, boys. The police department in Louisville has ruined me. I am no longer have any money left in the bank. I bet it all, and it's got his sheffler. And now he's in jail, so-- He's out of jail. He got out. He got out, man. We are seeing this. I have not seen this. I saw a report that he was detained, taken to jail. God, I forget that there's so many-- so everything's like third hand, because like-- actually, that one's fourth hand, because that's like a reporter reporting on the reporter who saw it firsthand. And like, I'm the fourth hand version of this, but I have seen a legitimate report that-- OK, set it my way. I've got to find it again. But I've also now seen-- since seen a report that his status is very much up in the air, that nothing has been officially determined. But if he was released, you would think there was-- there would be no reason for the tournament to ban him from this tournament, right? Again, like, we're all just flailing here, but it's fine to speculate. It's honestly-- We're not reporters. I woke up this morning and I looked at my phone. And you know when there's those ads on "X" were super hot? When it was like, "Sydney Crosby" is doing weird stuff? Oh, yeah, I got the like, "Mary Berg" ones, all the time. Yeah, I looked at my phone and I saw this like, what? Like, this has got to be like, AI in the world of AI. This is so, so weird. And I was hoping that I was good enough at Photoshop that I could have the cop, have Xander Shoffley's head on it. Like, I just had so many things I wish I could do with the internet. But I'm just too old to do. But what time-- I saw her boy Adam Stanley tweet out. That is tea time, because there's the delay, clearly, due to the tragedy outside Valhalla. 10.0 wait. And then 10.0 wait. I mean, he's got time. Listen, like, I can make it to Lakeview in, you know, T minus 12 minutes. If I was teeing off at 8.35, I could make it there right now. So he's got some time. I'm praying. Like, there's got to be somebody at the precinct that are like, boys, this is nuts. Like, you got to let the man-- like, what happened? Let go. OK, I don't-- I don't-- I don't know what happened though. If it's nothing, I don't disagree. But it's like, based off Darlington's first report, the cop attached himself, which I'm taking to believe, like, tried to hold on to the car in some way, shape, or form. And Scheffler drove off like a-- True Rory fan here is a true Rory fan. Hold on, hold on. Hold on, you think if Scottie Scheffler drove away-- and again, allegedly, we have no idea-- with a cop attaching himself in some way that it's like, oh, well, big misunderstanding. Let's just shake it. I don't disagree with you that that's probably what's going to happen here. But I-- man, like, I want to give him the benefit of the doubt. It's got to be a big cop guy. Well, hold on, hold on. I'm going to ask you to know me famously. I'm going to ask a question that I'm interested to hear the answer to. Has anybody spent some time in the clank? Like, anyone-- no. --done the drunk tank thing? Well, I've never been to the clank. Somehow, some way. Yeah, me neither. I've never been. I would like to-- or not like to. I would assume that if you're being charged with a crime, you have to, like, there's some bail situation-- Like processing. Yeah, that situation would not resolve itself in the amount of time that if, according to reports that, like, Scottie Scheffler has been released, he-- if he was being charged with a crime, I think it's safe to say he wouldn't have already been released, right? I don't know that. I can see a world where you get-- We're all good boys here. Well, it's like you post-bond, and then you're out, and then it's a-- you have to come back to, like, face those charges. That stuff happened. Like, there are people who are waiting trial all the time, I'd imagine. And just put a-- put a perspective or a pin on it. It's Cura Dickson, who reported it. But it's multiple people, I see. But Cura Dickson, one of them, Golf Channel Reporter, that has that he has been released. Yeah. So I think that-- I don't know. I just-- when I see him rolling over the grounds, it's clearly a misunderstanding where-- For sure. It's like, I'm the number one golf in the world. I'm just going to sneak around this traffic stop. And then there was a cop that was like, I don't think you're going to do that. Stop. And then he's like, oh my god, what's happening? And then the next thing, Jeff Darlinton's like-- and the guy's like, he's going to jail. I'm like, what is going on? It happened so fast, I bet. And it's just an incredible story that I have not had time to process. We've had two hours process, and we still don't know. No, let's continue talking to that. But no, I'm a guy that is not down with authority, right? And all of the three of us, I think the most likely-- She's to have been detained briefly, ever so briefly, and then released. But I'm not going to put this entirely on the police officers. Yeah, obviously, right? Like, we don't have all the details. Like, someone died outside the grounds here. So it's not like this is just, oh, well, hey, this is a section that you can't drive through. There was a legitimate and real and serious reason why you wouldn't want anyone going through that area. The idea that I'm the first one to say overreach of authority when it comes to police powers here. I'm not quite ready to go down that road because of the seriousness of what took place there. Obviously, Scotty couldn't have known that, or probably didn't know that. But yeah, I'm not quite ready to throw the cops under the bus here, although that clip is-- It's bad, right? Like, hey, he's going to jail. It's bad. It's a bad clip. I mean, it's just, listen, it's a bad clip. And that cop seems so, so decisive and the picture of him. Like, how does nobody know who he is? Like, is there not one? That's also part of the reporting, too, that Jeff-- I don't know if it's from Jeff Darlington, but somebody reporting-- maybe this is the report of the Jeff Darlington report that, yeah, after the camera turned off from Jeff Darlington, one of the cops came to him, who assumed, like, Scotty was like an agent or a manager or something. And he said, like, who is that? Oh, we have the clip. OK, we're going to play the clip of this report, I guess, from Jeff Darlington here to McKee. Nice. Chefler was then walked over to the police car, placed in the back in handcuffs, very stunned about what was happening, looked toward me as he was in those handcuffs, and said, please help me. He very clearly did not know what was happening in this situation. It moved very quickly, very rapidly, very aggressively. He has-- he was detained in that police vehicle for approximately 20 minutes. The police officers, at that point, did not understand that Scotty Chefler was a golfer in the tournament, nor, of course, that he is the number one player in the world. I mean, that's a tough one, too. Like, if you're given the assignment of, of, I guess, maybe they were called in after the fact. Maybe they were not on original duty outside of the golf course. But you would think, like, if you're a Louisville police officer, it's the biggest thing happening in your town this week that you would know the most famous golfer outside of Tiger Woods right now. Like, that's a tough one. So, no, here's the thing. I actually have a big time negative spin zone for the PGA Tour. Like, that's tough. You got to grow the game. Holy smokes. How many cops didn't know who the number one golf in the world is? Like, I can guarantee you they're going to know who Anthony Edwards is. They're going to know who Scotty-- they're going to know who Tiger Woods is. Like, they know who the famous guys are. And they're not knowing who Scotty Shepherd. Gotta do a better job growing the game. That's a tough look for a PGA Tour. Honestly, that's a great point. I hadn't thought about it, but you're right. Like, you know, I guess it's like, we'll give everybody the, like, stunning nature of being six in the morning when this happened. And you're right. You don't expect it to be the world number one. But, yeah, that is a tough, tough look. I honestly-- I didn't think about it. I know I'm not the only person doing this. I have the internet. I see it. It is, like, kind of impossible not to draw another Tiger line here. Like, not-- I don't mean this to, like, glorify it or make it, you know, a deifying thing. But it's like, the guy we've been comparing him to, he's the only other guy who's had this happen. I feel like Ben just saw the mugshot. That's what happened right now. But-- which I've seen as well. There is a picture of him in an orange jumpsuit. That doesn't look real. I know this is the thing. AI is terrifying. I'm not 100% of that one. I'm not 100% sure on that one. But it looks real. Yeah, there is a-- at the very least, a super good Photoshop going around. Yeah, I-- sorry. Whatever you-- what were you saying? I was just saying that it's like, how can you not have the-- like, we have been having Tiger conversations about this guy for six months. And then this happens the morning of a major. And it just-- how can it not give you flashbacks to the Tiger stories? And again, I'm not saying they're similar circumstances. We don't know any of the circumstances surrounding this, really. But it is impossible for me not to draw a line of like, oh, my god, he really is next Tiger. That is remarkable. I just-- I have not recovered yet, Gunner, from picking at that picture. The picture, it's got to be real, right? I'm trying to look it up myself, because I imagine someone took that off. Some legitimate-- some legitimate reporters now, like Jason Sobel, who used to be at ESPN, has retweeted it out. And maybe it's just like in jazz, like, there's no comment attached to it. But it is in the format of an official booking record. Yeah, that's real. I'm going with that's very real. The best thing ever would be if Scotty Scheffler somehow makes it out of his orange jumpsuit, gets back to the tea time, and then wins on Sunday. And Nance is like, out of the shackles, and under the winner's circle. OK, that is actually the funniest part about this, is you know Nance is like, oh, boy, it's clear out. We've got a writing session here. He's like, he's got the snifter going. He's got his like, corn cob pipe, I imagine, as he's getting all the lines ready out of the shackles. But actually, like, if this is-- and again, we don't know what this is. No, he's done. But if he's in an orange jumpsuit, he ain't making pen away. He's done. No, but he's been released. He's out. He got out. Who says he's out? I have to pull reporters. Multiple reporters have said he's gotten out. He's been released. Now, whether he's been released and back of the golf course, is a different story. I've also, again, seen the report that the PGA of America says this is an ongoing situation, and they have not confirmed his availability for the tournament. I feel like, Brent, you just nodded because you saw something. No, no. I just was reading the exact thing you just saw it as I was saying. And also, we now have a text from Adam Stanley, who says, a PGA of America official confirms to him that it's an ongoing situation with Scottie Scheffler. And there is nothing right now that can be shared. Yeah, that's a little ominous. Yeah, it's not great. Here's what I'd be doing. I'd be shorting Scottie Scheffler, if you could. You can't, because you're already all in. I'm going to be going to my favorite book. I'm getting that chat. Please, please, please, please. I'm sorry, please. I'm not fair. Not fair. I'm putting my money back. It's a good will. You big dumbo. I never bet a tournament favorite. And all week, you're like, you know what? You just got to bet, Scheffler. And you taught me into it. So you know what? I can't three straight tournaments betting on Scottie Scheffler. I know, but I can't dom my idea that one. Why do that again? I mean, why didn't you know he was going to go to the literal clink this morning? Just side note, McKee. I don't know if you're doing it with me. You'll appreciate this. I'm going on with Russik this morning in Calgary, so you can imagine a back conversation. We'll go. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Oh, my God, Russik, that's going to be electric. Do you have any other golf thoughts, takes from the first round? I'm like, it's going to talk about Xander, yeah. He's going to gag. That's not-- I mean, there's nothing-- OK, he honestly-- Asterous? OK, hold on, hold on. Oh, I love this. If Xander Shockley now wins, but it is under the specter of Scottie not being there, is this the Taylor-Gooch Asterous at this major, given Scottie's form heading into this? I think that is a quasi-legitimate question. Yeah, I think there's a lot of other good players, too, but it's a moot point because there's just no-- if there's one thing I can bet on, like him not winning is something-- can I take the field at minus 5,000? Like, there's just no chance that Xander Shockley wins this golf tournament. I'm willing to go out on a limb and say that. Yeah, I think the course is kind of stupid looking. I don't like the way to look. There's a lot of the stupid kind of-- Look, some of the golden tea-like almost. Somebody described it as that. I feel like that's perfect. Little gimmicky, looked like it was easy to score on. We had a nice first page of the leaderboard. It looks like we're setting up for a good weekend here. Hopefully, it gets a little harder, but yeah, the golf course, it's supposed to rain again today. So maybe they could just call off today. Well, that's the best possible. Just, you know, Tim Foyle half. There's a lot to it. What? Well, put on the Tim Foyle half. Like, if you're the tour, there's a chance that you push this thing back a day. Yeah, and then you get your-- well, I guess no longer Golden Boy, we shall see. But you get Scheffler. Like, why wouldn't you if you're the tour? Yeah, I mean, there's a big time-- there's a big time tragedy upfront. The traffic situation is probably a nightmare. The weather's not great. The best player in the world is, you know, not available to play. You got to cancel this, baby. You just can't play today. That's a-- am I completely unbiased opinion? You can't play today. You just can't do it, guys. You got to be-- you're done with it. Back to the Zander thing, which I thought I'd be spending more time talking about that, yeah, he is a joking dog, and then he already shot a 62 in a major, like less than a calendar a year ago. If water laid at one of these holes, you're going to throw it in on Sunday? It's-- you don't-- putting it in the water on 16 at Augusta is like, that's next level of choke-age, because, like, that's a hole you make a hole in one on. No, you don't put it in the water there. Anyways, don't we need him? Like, maybe this just speaks to my sports sensibility, but I-- it would be devastating to me if he ever won. Like, we need the guy-- the best guy not to win a major, but not only that, the guy that does gag it up. Yeah, yeah, it's great. It's a great thing to have where we all are like, oh, he had a great round on Thursday. And it's like, here we go. And then we all get ready for the-- it's a great point. It's nice to have it. Probably sucks really badly for him when he starts getting in his own mind. And he knows that it's coming, but for the golf fan to have him as, like, a part of the final two pairings on Sunday at a major is great, because you're probably going to see some drama. He's going to come back to the-- like, that performance he had at Wells Fargo, where Rory just-- Oh, my god. --big boyed him, where he was just terrified. He couldn't make a shot. I'm sure that'll get better this week. I'm sure the learning experiences he took from that, where it's even higher stakes, with even better players chasing him, I'm sure he'll be OK. But yeah, it's great to have a guy like that when you nailed it. Yeah, I couldn't agree more. I was a little surprised. I got to be honest to see Finau. Like, I haven't been keeping super close tabs on his form, but he feels like he's been a little, like, wandering in the wilderness there. It's like, he's just one of these-- this is kind of what we talked about in our preview pod is that guys of Finau is kind of ilk. They've kind of gone by the wayside during the Scheffler ascension. And it's just you do feel like there is, you know, like, Finau is of that class of guys that we would have thought we'd be talking about not all the time, but once a year in the mix for it for a major. And it just didn't quite feel like it's gone that way for him. So I think it's like important. He's got to travel with his army of-- I know 300,000 people with him at all times. What does he even make money playing on tour? No way. Like, what does it cost to shepherd his family around? He breaks even every week. He's like, I have to make a million dollars this week, or I'm ruined. The caddy tipped him out. He's like, oh, man, let's say you're having a top goal. Oh, my God. Again, like, I'm looking at the mugshot. There's-- so there's now on record, like, we have digital image copies of Scheffler in handcuffs. And, you know, Orange jumpsuit getting his mugshot taken. Oh, and, OK, producer Jeff Azabar already saying that the tweets that have the report of him being released have been deleted. So take that for-- OK. [LAUGHTER] Jesus. Holy-- hey, listen, again, this is not firsthand reporting. This is multiple hand reporting. I mean, it's just what a day for the internet. What do you should have called? You should have blown me up and called Stanley. Like, are you guys calling Stanley at least 30? He's-- but he's-- yeah, he's-- I think he's-- home base is not quite at the golf course yet. I think he's in transit. We were trying to get it in touch with Stanley. He's just providing us with text updates. Anyways, all right. That's awesome. Can I give you guys-- can I give you one more piece of information that they both think you will really enjoy? I am on the Louisville Metropolitan Department of Corrections website searching the inmates. And this will shock you. This will shock you. You can't right now. The site is just like-- there's a lot of people looking at this. Also, also, like, a lot of guys under six foot all getting arrested last night in Louisville. So, like, some angry, short guys there. It's like, yeah, like, argument outside of bar for Jimmy John, big time. And then the number one player of the world is incredible. God, I'm dying to see him. Last one, actually. OK, go ahead. Free Scotty. Free-man man Scotty. OK, what do we think of the mugshot? Like, did OK, right? Like, doesn't look disheveled. Doesn't look like he's been crying or anything. Like, looks, you know? Like, I think it's OK as far as mugshots go. Looks tired, Dad. I have to say, I mean, it's a dangerously deep V on the-- [LAUGHTER] A lot. [LAUGHTER] Yeah, he looks-- That's the proof he's an alpha. He's like, you see all this chess here. You don't want this. He looks-- he actually has a look at his face. He's like, I am going to sue the pants off. Oh, yeah. He's not even wanting to get involved. Like, I truly am. And I can't imagine. Imagine being, like, the chief of police of the Kentucky-- and you're waking up this morning, and you're like, Jim did what? [LAUGHTER] What happened? It's like, oh my god. The press conference-- are we getting a police press conference? Like, we're going back to my city on Wednesday. Where it's like, the six city news, or I'm like, I'm going back there. And there was nothing like a Rob Ford press conference. I love the police press conference. Give me the police press conference about Scotty Scheffler at last time. The only problem with it is such a tenant of a great police press conference is a cool project name. And this won't have one, because it's just like a thing happen. It won't be like-- Project, Peter Scheffler. It won't be like Project T off or something like that. OK, a couple other notes from his booking document here. 170 pounds. He's a six foot three? Wow. I would have bet the over 170 on Scotty for sure. Also ask him. Geez, I'm so sorry. There's a note on visitation information, visitation day. There is no visitation until the inmate has been classified and moved to a housing unit. So yeah. Perhaps still in the clink awaiting bail proceedings. Yeah, I wouldn't feel good about your Scotty Scheffler bet. That's for sure. No, it's bad. It's bad. I'm definitely going to my favorite gambling site right now to beg for forgiveness. All right. Let me know. Let me know. No, please. Let me know how that goes, because I might have similar things to say to them. So good luck and thank you. Yes, OK. Boys, I honestly don't know if I've ever enjoyed doing a radio hit more than this. This is outrageous. A lot of fun. A lot of fun. Goodbye. Free Scotty. Free man Scotty. See you, buddy. There's Sam McKee, real kipper, and born. What a day. Yeah, I just had to close the Louisville police database. It was causing my computer to start smoking, because it just, no matter what you click, it's just immediate wheel of like, I'm working on it. OK? Yeah, you can only imagine every, I don't know, like golf adjacent person. Not even media, like, because they all did. I imagine a lot of people did the thing we just did, where we saw the picture and went like, oh, that's very plausible, but like, I'd like to see. And yeah, I guess you can. Devil's Advocate argument. Good for golf. This is a beyond sports story. Let me tell you that guy. Well, they're not at Valhalla next year. But when they come back in 2036, if it stays on a 10-year rotation, you know who's going to be there? No one, damn well, who's Scottie Scheffler is that cop. Yeah, there is no debate about that. All right, if we come back, talk about something else, although it's hard to think about anything else. Well, we'll do our best. Who are we talking to next? Oh, Mike Fuda. Oh, yeah, that's great. I love talking to Futes. Yeah, I think he might have some insight on the ownership situation in Carolina, and their willingness to give all the money to Rod or into more other sports, other than Scottie Scheffler getting arrested. I do love talking about that stuff. I can't wait. Maybe Fuda's been on Twitter this morning, too, and wants to wait on that. I think he's like a general sports fan and classic prediction. I think he's going to ask us what's going on with that. All right, that and more next. If the fan morning show continues, Ben and his friend, Gunning, sports have 5'9" of the fan. Scottie Scheffler was handcuffed outside of Valhalla Golf Club. Earlier today, before the second round of the PGA Championship, which has not started because it's been delayed, there was a fatal accident involving a pedestrian in what it seems like was a shuttle outside of the golf course this morning. And as a result, there was an area cordoned off by police. Scottie Scheffler seems like attempted to go through that area. And he would, whatever happened after that, ended up in Scottie Scheffler being arrested. And there's a video of it. And there's a video of Scottie Scheffler in handcuffs. It's also a mugshot of Scottie Scheffler being booked. There's varying reports as to whether he's been released or not. We're also seeing some reporting that people are digging through the PGA of America rule book. His tea time is what? Now set for 10-something? Yep. 10-08. 10-08 today, there is an exception for something that is outside of your control. Exceptional circumstances that allows you to miss your originally scheduled tea time. So maybe even if Scottie's not good to go by 10 o'clock that he could perhaps tea off at a later time today. I feel that's a tough sell for the rest of the players at large. It's like, again, I'm not saying anything, but at least accused of committing a crime, you're allowed to tea off later. And that's pretty tough sell. I'm not saying it won't happen. I just, god, good luck in the night. These players' meetings are annoying enough for all these guys as is, I can only imagine the the grousing that would be happening if that was the case. Yeah, it's not so. I don't know. Actually, I don't even know if our next guest is a golfer. I assume he is. I mean, you're in pro sports. I think you just-- you almost have to be-- True osmosis is a hockey guy. I feel like it happens. Yeah, Mike Feud, a two-time Stanley Cup winning executive, joins us online right now. How's it going, Feud? What a world. What a world. You've said a man. What a world we live in. Yeah, I don't like golf, but I also-- I also try and-- I've never passed to anybody on the outside when people were supposed to be stopped driving. So I think that's some more important point. How the hell are they? They got to let them golf. I mean, this guy, he's like, isn't it about Christian, too? Like, this is-- So-- What-- where are we living? I mean, I know you don't want to talk to me about this. No, no, no, we can't, but-- I was up early, and I saw it, and I was like, this isn't a egregious crime. I mean, I guess if he had just been who he was. Hold on, let me just jump in here. Now, I am not reporting this. There's something called wave news that operates in Louisville. I won't name the charges here, but they have three different charges, and including one of them is a salt of a police officer. Now, again, that is from a news organization in Kentucky. If that happens, I think it's going to be a pretty hard sell to say. And I'm sorry, I just-- I didn't want you riding for him so hard, and then me to come off the back and say, and, of course, you feel that way. So yeah, I just wanted to clarify. I'm glad that one, but I missed that one. But I struggled to imagine Scotty Scheffler assaulting a police officer, so I mean-- No, I'm right there with you. I think Ben and I were just talking to this before the mic slipped on here. One of the things that might have led-- not led to this, but could have potentially de-escalated it earlier is that he didn't do the thing I would have done in that case of, do you know who I am? I'm the world number one, Scotty Scheffler. It seems like he was too humble to do that, and failed to identify himself. He should have basically gone into a trunk, put on his green jacket, and just de-escalated the whole thing. God, it's nuts, man. What a crazy world. Crazy world, anyways. No, no, it works out. Yeah, listen, we're just talking about the story of the day. I'll just put a camper on it. You mentioned Wave News, who has 166,000 Twitter followers, NBC affiliate in Louisville, retweeting this from, I guess, one of the reporter's Olivia Russell, yes, traffic anchor, who says, world's number one golfer, Scotty Scheffler's being booked into Louisville Metro Department of Corrections charged with assault of a police officer, criminal mischief, reckless driving, and disregarding signals from an officer directing traffic. So yeah, that seems like assault of a police officer is, that one, they don't just wash that one away. It doesn't seem like-- That might back him off round two. That might be a tough one. All right, let's talk hockey, shall we? At least a two-stroke penalty. At the minimum, at the very least. All right, I want to get your insight on this Carolina Hurricanes organization and its ownership structure here, Mike, because, hey, we've got all these-- Listen, I know you have keen insights into this, but I know we had all the reporting that, hey, Rod Brindemore loves it in Carolina, and it's just, hey, the contract, it's on the table, and it's probably just pen to paper. He's not going anywhere. He's already turned down a potential job at MSG with the Rangers, so he's a hurricane for life. But if you're Tom Dundin, and he's only once gotten to a conference final, he's never won you a game there, Mike, how in on signing him to a record-breaking contract do you think he will be after they now bow out in six games to the Rangers yesterday? Well, personally, having been a part of the group and knowing how underpaid Roddy has been for exceptionally long time and quite content, actually, because he loves it in Carolina, I don't think-- I don't-- I think-- and just to say, again, I don't know for a fact, the number, but I don't believe Roddy's new deal is record-breaking. Like, this isn't that cocky, and I believe it's just a fair market value, and I'm sure he's taken a lot of pressure from the coach's union, that when you're the top-tier guy, you just can't be just badly underpaid, because it's a trickle-down effect on everybody. But what I do know has happened in the past with Tom, and is that he identifies somebody, and he clearly-- as much as I'm sure Tom's not happy with the results and stuff like that, he also realizes what Roddy means to the organization personally and professionally, and he wants to pay him. But what has happened in the past there is it's like, OK, I'll pay you, but I don't necessarily want to pay-- I'm not just jacking up your assistance as well. And in the past, Roddy has had to, once he got to his number, he had to take out of his own and disperse it amongst-- I know they lost the one, the assistant, to the Leafs. And then it's almost OK, you can take that, but if you want to start to bump up your assistance, it's going to come out of your own, you know, your own quaffes. And I don't know, and I have no idea what's going on now, but I can only imagine that if Tom is now about-- is going to make Roddy whatever, whether it's a $4 or $5 million coach, which is grossly more than he was making, when he was Jack Adams, like it was way low, that I'm assuming that it's probably not something, the money's not being spread around to the staff. And Roddy is probably just saying, I am, yeah, I'm good, but you got to take care of my boys. Like, we're a group here, we're a staff, and this assistants are amazing guys as well. So that's all I can think. But I mean, I have the ultimate, I have so much respect for the job that Tom and this group is done in Carolina. But again, when you allow your business, your model as a businessman that probably made you a billionaire, the way you treat your employees in the real world, it's got to be structurally different in the sporting world. In particular, that's the one thing I notice, because the hair kind of organization, like that group now, there were so many guys on great contracts coming up. And I know, and when I was there, I was really trying to preach this window of greatness. Isn't as great as you think it is, if we're on this salary thing, because Roddy Francis's group had put these, Pesci, Slavin, they were all incredible. When you think about that defense core, and they're all making about five million each, once those contracts are up, they're going to want money. And then this whole, you look at the amount of your face, now that's all I was saying. Once these guys have to be paid, this team, as it is, is not going to be the same. And now, to have Roddy's contract, be it a distraction going in the playoffs, I can't imagine the negotiations going any better based on what you just said with the results. - Well, maybe I'm connecting things that shouldn't be connected, but it's also like this was a team that famously never did rentals, right? And they said, all right, you know what? One year, we're going to push in, and we're not going to get our rental. We're going to get the best one we can find. And then that, I won't say it blows up in their face. I mean, Genssel was fine, nine points in 11 games, but it wasn't the, we're getting a transcendent difference maker that I think you expect when you go out and get the best rental guy on the market. I do wonder if there's a little bit of a correlation there in terms of, all right, GM, you got to push in, you got to do your thing, and now it's with Brindomor. All right, we pushed in here. You know, we see this all the time in Toronto, if things just kind of running their natural course, do you think there is any element of that in Carolina? Not to say that they wouldn't want Brindomor back, but for even him to say, do I want to continue to kind of pound my head against the wall and it's fighting for assistance, salaries every year, and it's these types of things. Do you think there's any part of him that would say, all right, maybe this is the reasonable off-ramp, or do you think he's just so kind of committed to Carolina? You know what? He's very committed to Carolina, but I could see him saying, okay, this isn't enough, you know. And I'd rather move on amicably than Burner Bridge, which because they are close friends, but I mean, the way you describe it is what it is, the different, and I could totally see, because I was there when they absolutely refused to add potential rentals, who I internally knew they were not gonna be rentals, 'cause they would resign, but Gensil's a perfect, they went out and got the Golden Boy. And I still, he was a great fit. It was a great move to that. I could see Tom saying, look, I did what you wanted and we didn't, you know, and we're no better, you know, whatever, we won an extra game or something like that, and so let's, we're gonna go back to it. It's just a different dynamic, and I could see maybe not knowing internally, but I could see where that would have grated Roddy again, knowing that he could, as opportunity, he could just go worth a more modern day feeling about the way your organizations are run, and the due diligence into adding free agencies and it's massive an ordeal, and I give Tom full credit for finally doing it, right? You've got no chance, like that's exactly what they needed, and you and everyone got it. And 'cause that's often, it's a tough leak to win it. I mean, it's a tough leak to win it, and then you get back to the most important position in the playoffs and, you know, maybe you put in all your cards and Freddie, at least you say, well, at least you remain healthy, well, you still struggle to get it done in the most critical moments, so. - That three-two goal was a tough one, and it started it all, right? - The short side, the one on the side on that, yeah. - Yeah, that's a rough one. All right, let's connect the big dot then. Leaf's still in the process of looking for their next head coach, and I wonder if that is related to waiting for this thing to play out? Do you think there's a fit there? - 100%, like 100%, but you've got such a, it's such a tightrope because there's so many openings, and if I'm, you know, clearly, the one thing you gotta look at too is, I'm glad that these guys are taking the time to meet people because it's not just the fact of looking at Rick Talkett behind the bench and then saying, "Wow, that's, you know, Ruby's talking," right? That they're so different. Yes, so it's the same presence because you've got guys that played the game the right way, they get their players respect 'cause they're no nonsense, and they've got that to fall back on, but I mean, as far as players, they were very different players, and they're very different coaches, but that mentality that you're getting is exactly what I believe police need. However, I do personally believe that Roddy is, I mean, having been there and seen it on a daily basis, that's a special, special guy. As far as the energy he brings on a daily basis from his fitness level, I mean, the guy, I don't know if he sleeps at night. I mean, the guy's literally walking in the morning at six o'clock and he's down with weight bests on, you know, like, he's supposed to go on to some, whatever, the African supplier, like a fitness, the guy's a machine. Right, he's got muscles in his face. And so it's like one of those things, and then he brings that same energy to a team, and he does it on a nightly basis. And on top of that, he's very technically sound, the passion he brings. So I do think there is a factor that a lot of teams today will be making that call to say, "Hey, are you guys getting something done?" If I was Carolina, I would want to announce today that he's off the market, or if that's possible, but I do think some teams might have been not taking it down the road, but trying to extend the process a little longer just in case the top guy does become available. And I do believe there's huge ties to Seattle with Ronnie Francis, if he does become available. And I also do believe the two top spots right now are obviously Toronto number one, for all the reasons that come with being the weak coach, breaking that 1967 jinx, what it could do for you financially, plus just the competitive factor of winning in Toronto, would drive Ronnie absolutely nuts, to think to be the guy that he's that competitive. And then I think New Jersey's got a great setup, just with what they got coming with the young players, and if they get the right goal tender in there, it's just a nice build. And again, Winnipeg, there's so many bottom line is, there's some incredible opportunities out there. And if Ronnie Brinammore wants to move on from Carolina, he's gonna be able to go somewhere, and I don't think anywhere he goes is gonna have to do with money. - Yeah, I mean, you mentioned the devil's job there. I mean, obviously like we're so bogged down in Leafland, but if I was a coach, and there's something to the siren song of winning in Toronto, and it matters the most, we've done that a million times. But if I was a coach, and I was able to pick my spot, it'd be Jersey in a heartbeat. Like he could kind of do the Carolina run again. All those guys are on awesome contracts, they're still early on in, and hey, you just gotta find a goalie, and maybe it'd go better than it did in Carolina for him. You know, if Brinammore is talking to the Leafs, and you know, I imagine they would love to, like you said, how much of the conversation is from his perspective of what's your team gonna look like? You know, Rod Brinammore's signing up to coach the Leafs, is currently constituted, and Rod Brinammore signing up to coach the Leafs with, I don't know, Tavares isn't here, Marner isn't here, one, both. That's certainly a different challenge. I don't think it'd be a deal breaker for him, one way or another, but I'd imagine he'd wanna kind of have an inkling, but I also, you know, if you're the Leafs, you can be honest to a point, but this is a guy who's gonna go talk to other teams potentially, so you can only be so honest. How does that kind of process play out in these interviews? - Honestly, that's a tough one to answer, because he's probably, his personality is not, he's probably the only coach that if he becomes available, it has the ability to interview the other team, as opposed to be interviewed. But it's just not something, it's just not really as dynamic to look at it that way. He's got too much, he's got so much respect and humility. However, I mean, just on the outside, you'd wanna know, you'd wanna know. And I think when it comes down to that, the Leafs have to be an open book. I think if you're Craig Barouba or Tom McClellan, you have that ability to ask that question, and I think the Leafs internally have to be honest with the candidate and just deal with it. It's not, and it's a great question, because I know what it's like to be smoked in an interview where they just pick your brain and then just take all your notes and move on to another candidate internally, but from a coaching standpoint, I think you have the right to ask that question, and then I think that's part of the synergy that develops between the two and trusting one another, that if you can't be honest with me, why, at this critical stage of an interview about what we're gonna do and not trust me, they don't really fit anyways. But I don't think it gets as specific as these are the teams we're talking about, but I mean, I wouldn't be surprised if there's a conversation, yeah, we're thinking about talking to a couple of our guys with no move clauses about opening it up and trying to build our back-end and getting a right fit net without getting specific about whatever. Yeah, we wanna move Mitch, or we wanna move JT, it's like you can still have those conversations professionally without exposing your exact specifics, and I think that honesty and openness is when you start to realize whether you're talking to the guy you wanna be your coach anyways. - It'll be an interesting couple of days to watch when it comes to the Toronto Maple Leafs and their coaching search. It's gonna be an interesting 10 minutes from now because that's when Scotty Scheffler is apparently gonna arrive at Valhalla, Mike. - Well, he's out. - Yeah, you were right, I've who knew, but yeah. - Well, there you go, well, at least he, well, a couple of things right off the bat. Thank God he's taken the heat off the Leafs coaching search. - Yeah. (laughing) - And you know how hard it is to swing in cups. - Yeah, it's very difficult. - So tough. - He's very head down. - Oh my God, what a banner day for Twitter today. - Hopefully at least they cupped him in front and not the back, is that the best way? - Yeah, yeah, that's a great point. Feud's always great, buddy. Thanks for this, enjoy the weekend. - Have a great weekend, fellas, be good. - You too, Mike, Feud, two times. Stanley Cup winning former NHL executive golf fan. And we're all, all eyes are glued on Louisville, Kentucky right now. - Well, it's like drizzling, so maybe they will play. I thought today was gonna be a complete wash, but no, you know, God's man's there. So he's like, yeah, we'll just turn it to a light sprinkle instead of a full thunderstorm. - There is so much about today, that is, just otherworldly, honestly. And like I said, Twitter on fire today. - Yes. - So many good tweets. I mean, we have Shane Ryan tweeting out, Scotty Scheffler was already the most intimidating presence on the course. Now the dude just got out of jail. This tournament is over. - Danged RT as fast as I could on that one. I love that one. I don't have it in front of me, so I can't remember who was the brilliant person that did this. Scotty Scheffler's last six starts, win, win, T2, win, win, jail. - Yeah. - Apparently seven starts though, 'cause he's gonna win now. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. Tiger Woods, Sunday Red, Scotty Scheffler, Friday Orange. I think this is, I mean, if nothing else, and it feels like there's gonna be something else, right? Like, those are not joke charges. That's not a, like, assaulting a police officer is no joke. - No, no, and I don't mean to diminish the other ones, like reckless driving, but that's the bullet point. I think just like, you tell, and this is the part of it that I think is gonna be so interesting to see the kind of reaction. It's like, you tell PGA fan, it's like Guy was arrested for assaulting an officer. Should he play a game that day? I think the bulk of people would be like, absolutely not. And all of a sudden this is different. Now again, like circumstances, I'm not painting with that wide brush, but yeah, it's fascinating to see if a bridge you guys. - Okay, so producer Jeff Azeparti has been watching the broadcast and the Jeff Darlington reporting. This part stands out to me. Apparently the police officer latched himself onto Scotty Scheffler's car and remained on the vehicle for 20 yards. It's not nothing before Scheffler stopped, like not at a high rate of speed, but I can't imagine he saw him. Like I don't intentionally drag the police officer 20 yards. I mean, intent has nothing to do with it all. So like you're responsible for your actions? - Yeah, and again, like I do not take this as a defensive Scotty Scheffler. You're gonna see a lot of this today though, that like these guys are instructed at a lot of these things like, hey, people are gonna be waving there. You just, you go through. Now again, someone lost their life outside of the golf course. So everyone obviously, not from the golfer's perspective, they probably didn't know that. But from a police perspective, of course you're not just gonna, oh man, he drove past me. No, it's a little more serious now. - Yeah. - It's wild stuff, man. It's insane. I gotta be honest, I'm floored. I am floored that the charge of assaulting an officer has been levied in some way, shape, or form and he's gonna play golf in an hour and change. It's wild to me. - It will be one of the most impressive feats of intestinal, mental fortitude to come apart, mentalize those pending charges and play well today. Like that would be, honestly, of all the impressive things Scotty Scheffler's done in the course of his golf career, playing well today after all that. - Yeah. - And these guys too. - Would be another level. - What do you say about baseball players? - More true about these guys in terms of creature habit that they get there at X time. You wanna be there to do your 42 minutes on the range and you wanna hit your 39 putts on the putting green and you wanna hit a shag bag of balls from 50. Like these guys have it down to such a tee the way they wanna perform. And that is, I don't feel particularly bad for them for it but it's like that has been completely blown up today. - Yeah. Here's the fact, Jack. - Again, the cops didn't know who the world's number one golfer was. - Yeah, 'cause he wasn't a big dog and he'd be like, "Hi, don't you know who I am?" - I hazard to guess that in about a week's time, there's a large swath of the population of planet Earth who had not known who Scotty Scheffler was, who now know who he is and what he looks like. - My mom's on the West Coast, so it'll be a while but I can't wait for her to text me like, "What's going on in golf? "Who is this guy?" Yeah, I can't wait. - Wild wackies. - Mom test, officially passed for Scotty Scheffler. - Can't wait. It was a long weekend. - Oh yeah, that's right. We'll be back on Tuesday. - Yeah, all right. We'll see you then. This has been the fan morning show, Ben Addis, Brian Gunning, sportsnet 5.9 in the fan. Good morning. - Presumably, if he's coming here, that means he intends to get on the golf course at 10.08 Eastern time, Scotty Scheffler's gonna be here. (upbeat music) (upbeat music) (upbeat music)
