AP News. Good morning, I'm Ed Dunham. Former President Donald Trump's hush money trial starts with cross-examination of Trump's former lawyer and former fixer Michael Cohen. The AP's Julie Walker is in New York. Donald Trump enters court criticizing the pace of the trial. The judge expects closing arguments after the long Memorial Day holiday. I'm here instead of campaigning. As you know, I was supposed to be in a very different state this morning and the judge actually decided to call this early. The former president has a cadre of supporters with him including famed legal scholar Alan Dershowitz. Former NYPD commissioner Bernard Carrick, who Trump pardoned after he went to prison for tax fraud. Cash Patel, a top ally who also served in Trump's administration. Many had to sit in the back row of the courtroom because there wasn't enough space in the gallery rows immediately behind the defense table. At Criminal Court in Manhattan, I'm Julie Walker. State-run media in Iran is referring to President Abraham Raisi as being martyred while serving the nation. The hard-line leader along with the country's foreign minister were killed in a helicopter crash in northwestern Iran. The chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court Karim Khan wants arrest warrants for leaders of Israel and Hamas, including Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The crimes include starvation of civilians as a method of warfare, willfully causing great suffering, serious injury to body or health or cruel treatment. A court in London ruled WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange can appeal against extradition to the U.S. on espionage charges. Assange's wife Stella was outside court. "We spent a long time hearing the United States putting lipstick on a pig but the judges did not buy it." The Supreme Court declined for now to hear a challenge to a law in Maryland banning assault weapons. This is AP News. "I'm Seth Zootel and this is Markets in a Minute. Wall Street is opening on a quiet note following its latest winning week. The S&P 500 was up three tenths percent in the first hour of trading Monday. The benchmark index is on track to surpass the record high it's set last week. The Dow was little changed and as that composite was up six tenths percent. Its rose last week following strong profit reports from U.S. companies and revived hopes that the Federal Reserve will be able to cut interest rates this year if inflation continues to cool down. Norwegian Cruise Line rose seven percent. The company said it was seeing growing demand for cruise travel. Nvidia reports its latest results on Wednesday. The chipmaker has almost doubled this year amid a frenzy surrounding artificial intelligence technology. Seth Zootel, New York. "The container ship that caused the deadly collapse of Baltimore's key bridge has been refloaded and is slowly moving back to port.
