This is AP News. I'm Rita Falle. Shock in the region as word comes that Iran's president has been killed in a helicopter crash in a foggy area in northwest Iran, the AP's Charles de Lesma. Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi, the country's foreign minister and others, have been found dead at the site of a helicopter crash after an hours-long search. State media has reported. State TVs give no immediate calls for the crash in Iran's eastern Azerbaijan province. Turkish authorities have released what they described as drone footage, showing what appeared to be a fire in the wilderness, that they suspected to be wreckage of a helicopter. I'm Charles de Lesma. AP correspondent John Gambrell is in the region with some background on President Raisi. He has backed Iran's moves to enrich uranium, up to nearly weapons-grade levels. He also has been linked to the security force crackdowns we've seen after the 2020 due death of Masah Amini that saw hundreds of thousands of protests in the street and then hundreds killed and then tens of thousands arrested in the time afterwards. Now, Raisi is also known for the execution of thousands of prisoners back in 1988 at the end of the Iran-Iraq War. Iran has announced that its first vice president, Mohammed Mokobar, will serve as the country's acting president for now. 27 people dead after an Israeli airstrike in central Gaza, most of them women and children. President Biden gave a commencement address Sunday at Morehouse College in Atlanta, saying that he hears the protests of students over the war in Gaza, and that scenes from the war break his heart, too. Donald Trump's hush money trial resumes today in New York. Sean Diddy Combs admits that he beat his ex-girlfriend Cassie in a hotel hallway in 2016. Their CNN released video of the attack. He says he's truly sorry. This is AP News. Now to a deadly train collision in upstate New York, the AP's Jackie Quinn with this story. A community is mourning the deaths of three people in a pickup truck, including a child killed when the vehicle was struck by an Amtrak train. Authorities say a six-year-old boy is among the three people killed in the accident Friday in the small town of North Tonawanta, New York. The other victims were a man and woman in their late 60s. Authorities say the train was on its way from New York City, heading to Niagara Falls when the accident occurred, and that no one on the train was injured. Local media's reporting the pickup truck became trapped between crossing gates when the Amtrak train came through. I'm Jackie Quinn.
