This is AP News, I'm Rita Falle. There could be some fierce weather today in the Midwest, thunderstorms damaging winds, large hail, maybe tornadoes at some point, says the National Weather Service. Parts of Texas, meanwhile, may see record high temperatures over the next few days. It's in the final stretch, Donald Trump's Hush Money trial in New York, the AP's Julie Walker is covering the trial. Donald Trump's lawyers pressed the judge overseeing his Hush Money trial to stop the case from going to the jury, which could get it next week, and throw out the charges. The judge reserving his decision, the defense request came yesterday. After the prosecution rested its last witness, Michael Cohen, who said he had no doubt Trump okayed the Hush Money payment to Stormy Daniels. Also yesterday, the judge briefly kicking reporters out of the courtroom after admonishing defense witness Bob Costello for his behavior on the stand. The trial resumes today with more testimony from him. Trump's lawyers call Costello to the stand to attack the credibility of star witness Cohen. At Criminal Court in Manhattan, I'm Julie Walker. France and Belgium are supporting that request for arrest warrants for leaders of Israel and Hamas. The US is condemning the request for warrants. The AP's Joe Fetterman is in Jerusalem. The arrest warrants have not been issued by the International Criminal Court. That is a process that could take several weeks or even several months. But the attempt, the request by the chief prosecutor to seek those arrest warrants already is having reverberations. World leaders are gathering virtually today to talk about artificial intelligence, and they're expected to adopt a new agreement. They're talking about A.I.'s potential risks and its benefits. Authorities in Pakistan are urging people to stay indoors as that country wrestles with a forecast for brutal heat. The White House says the head of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation will soon be replaced as he steps down under pressure to resign. Earlier this month, the highly critical report was released about the FDIC and Chairman Martin Grunberg's inability to change the culture. An audit by a law firm finds there were more than 500 complaints including sexual harassment, stalking, homophobia, and other workplace violations. Republicans have been calling for Grunberg to step down for some time, and now the chairman of the Senate Banking Committee, Sherrod Brown, says a fundamental change must be made in the department.
