This is AP News. I'm Rita Folle. "Pragedy in Mexico, where a stage collapsed during a political event, at least nine people are dead, dozens more injured," the AP's Karen Shamos. The stage in Nuevo Leon fell apart from a strong gust of wind, prompting emergency services to rush to the scene. It happened during an event attended by Presidential Longshot candidate Jorge Alferre's Mainers. The state's governor confirmed the tragedy and said a child was among the dead. Videos of the dramatic collapse were posted to social media. The clips showed scenes of panic as people were screaming and running away. Afterwards, soldiers, police and other officials roamed the grounds of the park, where the event took place. I'm Karen Shamos. Here in this country, more bad weather ahead. There could be thunderstorms, fierce winds, flooding, and hail from Texas to the Dakotas in Minnesota today. Some tornadoes possible too. Five people are known dead in Iowa after fierce weather and tornadoes there. And as all this bad weather continues, millions of us are going to be traveling for the Memorial Day holiday. Most of us on the roads. But the Triple-A's Aixa Diaz says, "Air travel is also very popular right now. Three and a half million people are projection for the Memorial Day weekend. So airports are going to be as packed as they've been. I mean, they'll be more packed than we've seen in 20 years." The Triple-A's Aixa Diaz. Now to a report about a second flag flying outside a home owned by Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito. The New York Times has photographs showing a flag flying at Justice Alito's Beach Home in New Jersey that looks like one carried by rioters during the attack on the U.S. Capitol in 2021. This follows a report of an upside down American flag seen at Alito's home outside Washington. He said his wife flew that flag after a dispute with neighbors. No comment yet on the second flag. This is AP News. Sentencing soon now for a high profile former prosecutor in Maryland. Maryland Mosby, the former state's attorney for Baltimore, is to be sentenced in Green Belt Maryland on perjury and mortgage fraud charges. Mosby was convicted by two separate juries of lying about her finances to improperly withdraw deferred retirement funds under provisions of the COVID Relief Act. She years the $90,000 for down payments on two vacation homes in Florida. The government argued that was improper because she falsely claimed the pandemic had harmed her travel oriented side business. Mosby gained a national profile during the failed prosecution of six police officers in the 2015 death of Freddie Gray. Federal prosecutors have recommended a 20 month sentence for Mosby. Her attorneys are urging the judge to spare her from prison, arguing that her actions entail no victim, no financial loss and no use of public funds. I'm Jennifer King.
