This is AP News, I'm Rita Falle. Mother Nature's not done with this yet. Forecasters say there'll be thunderstorms across much of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic today. Hail, high winds flooding maybe from New York to North Carolina. That after the brutal weather over the weekend in several states, at least 20 people known dead now. The AP's Jennifer King. Deadly storms swept through Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kentucky this weekend, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear declared a state of emergency early Monday. "We have one fatality that we haven't heard of any other injuries outside of that. Make sure you stay safe." Police in Louisville say a man there died, believed to have been struck by a falling tree. A tornado Saturday night led to seven deaths in Cook County, Texas, including two young children. The storm hit a rural area with a mobile home park. "At least about 100 people have been injured." Texas Governor Greg Abbott spoke from Valley View, where dozens of people rode out the storm in the bathroom of a truck stop as the building's roof and walls were sheared away. "More than 200 homes and structures were listed as destroyed." Audio courtesy WFAA, I'm Jennifer King. Now to what Palestinians are saying about Israeli attacks in Gaza, the AP's Charles D'Aledesma. Palestinian health workers say Israeli strikes killed at least 35 people on Sunday and hit tents for displaced people in the southern Gaza city of Rafa, and numerous others were trapped in flaming debris. Israel's armies confirmed the strike and said it hit a Hamas installation and killed two senior Hamas militants. President Biden will be at Arlington National Cemetery this morning to honor the nation's fallen service members on this Memorial Day. He'll join a wreath-laying ceremony. golfer Grayson Murray's parents say he took his own life. Murray was 30 years old. He died over the weekend, one day after he withdrew from a PGA tour event. This is AP News. Not a lot of people at the movie theaters this weekend, the AP's Marjis Arleda has this. Movie audiences stayed away from theaters this holiday weekend in spite of two high-profile releases. "No shame in height. It's one of the great forces of nature." Furiosa, a Mad Max saga, made $25.6 million domestically, while the Garfield movie made $24.8 million according to studio estimates. Both movies are claiming the number one spot because of earnings estimates for Monday. The real story is that it was the weakest Memorial Day weekend for movies in nearly three decades, with the exception of the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020.
