This is AP News, I'm Rita Falle. At least 18 known dead in those brutal storms across Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Kentucky. Just a few hours ago, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear declared a state of emergency. We've got about 213,000 homes without power. We have at least five counties that have declared an emergency and it looks like we have one fatality that we haven't heard of any other injuries outside of that. In Marion County, Arkansas, Justin Hurst says the storms destroyed his home. We felt it hit the house and just felt it started sucking air up through the through the walls and the windows heard the roof go. Today forecasters say much of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic will see thunderstorms, maybe some hail and high winds from New York to North Carolina. Now to that deadly landslide in Papua New Guinea, listen to what a government official there is telling the UN, the AP's Charles de Ledesma. In a letter seen by the AP to the UN resident coordinator, Katie Sunday, an official from the National Disaster Center said the landslide buried more than 2,000 people alive and caused major destruction at Yambali village in anger province. Estimates of the casualties have varied widely since the disaster occurred and it's not immediately clear how officials arrived at the number of people affected here. I'm Charles de Ledesma. A new Mexico judge has rejected actor Alec Baldwin's request to dismiss an involuntary manslaughter charge against him in the shooting depth of a cinematographer on the set of the movie Rust in 2021. Friday's decision paves the way for Baldwin's trial to start in July. Musician Nicki Minaj will reschedule Saturday's concert in Manchester, England after she missed it over an arrest in the Netherlands. Minaj said on social media, police in the Amsterdam airport told her they found marijuana in her bag as she was boarding a plane for Manchester. Police confirmed they fined and released a 41-year-old woman for drugs. The Walt Disney Company says songwriter Richard M. Sherman has died at the age of 95.
