A unique way Disney tells the story of this resort!

Hi everyone! Disney's Riviera Resort celebrates the travels of Walt Disney to the French and Italian Riviera. One of the most unique ways it tells this story is through the Mosaic murals. A Mosaic is a piece of art that is made by assembling Tisera, or small pieces of a material like glass or pebbles to create an image. This practice dates back to the third millennium BC in Mesopotamia. The tunnel leading to the Disney Skyliner at Disney's Riviera Resort showcases two spectacular mosaic murals, one featuring Peter Pan and the other featuring Tangled. They rise 20 feet high on either side of the walkway, and each are connected by an adjoining mosaic sky on the ceiling. Over a million hand-cut tiles and shades of blue, green, purple, yellow, and more were individually placed to create the iconic scenes from the films. The Peter Pan side features Wendy, Michael, John, and Peter Pan, flying off to Neverland, and the Tangled side highlights the floating lantern scene over Rapunzel's Castle and her tower. The selection of these stories by Disney Imagineering was purposeful and circles back to Walt's. When he was traveling in Europe in the 1930s, he sent a collection of over 300 books back to the Walt Disney Studios, and the original stories that influenced these murals were a part of that collection. More than that, both murals depict a celebration of flight and have a very intentional location in the tunnel leading to the Disney Skyliner, the aerial gondola system on property. These incredible pieces of art have become the perfect complement to a resort that captures the spirit of elegance, artistry, and enchanting. [MUSIC]
