(upbeat music) Final segment, Kirk Central, Dan Reachos at D.R. Shaw here in the Kintec Studio, Kintec. Canada's favorite orthotics provider, powered by thousands. Thousands of five-star Google reviews. Soarfeet, what are you waiting for? A lot still to get to. Mainly just overrated, underrated, hit the music. (upbeat music) It's a Wednesday. My mentions were just loaded with overrated, underrated submissions from the people. Appreciate that. Yeah, man, people always come up big. Good questions, good submissions. Good topics of discussion. Overrated, underrated, can openers. Oh, underrated, good ones. Bad ones? Although they're like a bany existence. I've broken like three can openers in the last 12 months. I do not have superhuman strength. Do you think this should be happening all the time? The can openers are right way, by the way. I don't know. Have you looked up like way to use can openers? How many cans are you opening? I mean, when I make a nice sugo, I'm opening the tomato cans. Peas have a good protein content, so I like to have peas added into my meals. Peas and mushrooms, it's a good side dish. So you get canned peas and mushrooms? I'm a big beans guy, you know. Big on the beans. Oh, I said that about you, big beans guy. (laughs) Chickpeas, you know. Other cans. I'm just naming everything that I know comes at a can. But it is frustrating. If you have a can opener, that doesn't really work. And then it takes forever. And then like it cuts, you know, you cut your hand on the can opening it and everything. Like it's a real pain. I've had one can opener for like at least six years now. Wow, it's going strong. So anyways, can openers, underrated ones that work, definitely. Hans on the text in the box says, "Reach, stop buying from Timu." (laughs) I just bought another one off Amazon. So we'll see how this one goes. I'm gonna get to the submissions now. Yeah, we'll move on from Tans. Matt, keeping the Canucks banned together. Overrated, underrated. So bringing back some pretty much all the players, I guess. Definitely overrated. Like we kind of went through it in the open today. And if you start doing the math of like what it might cost to bring all these guys back, you may not even be able to bring all of them back. Like, Ronik's seven million, Zadora of five, five and a half, Joshua, three and a half, maybe four, Myers, like you've already run out of money. Yeah, and you know what? And you can't do anything else. And if you go back two days, right? So on Monday's show. Yeah. I think we spoke about this exact topic. So I'd say overrated. And if you want a more in-depth discussion on this exact topic, go back to Monday's podcast. What a promo. Yeah, what a promo. Man, the open, it's just, it's always hitting. Yeah, it always hits. Justin and East Van, extending Tyler Myers, speaking of the open, extending Tyler Myers, overrated or underrated. I mean, honestly, it's underrated, right? 'Cause like in terms of you getting a right hand defenseman who's capable that you know can play for you in the playoffs, right? He's fitting into your system with size and all that. Excelled in a more structured environment that Rick Tockett has provided. And being able to get him signed for an undermarket value. Deal is actually underrated, I think. 'Cause if you're signing for under four or like low threes, that's a discount on what he's gonna make. Again, Myers III was third in points among unrestricted free agent defenseman with a right shot. Yeah. Only Brandon Montour and Dylan DiMello had more. He played extremely well defensively, was on a shutdown pair that did a pretty good job against Conor McDavid in the playoffs. I mean, look, you need to do better than Tyler Myers. I get it, but-- You could do worse. You could do worse than Tyler Myers as well. And having him as your second pair guy locked in for another couple of years gives you more time to develop the lander. And I just think it's a safe move. You always want to be hidden for the fences, but I don't think like they're wanting to bring back Myers and not wanting to have somebody play with Hughes as well, right? Like Myers is just, they like Susie and Myers together, and I think that's a big reason why they are very keen on potentially bringing Tyler Myers back. Next one from David, signing Sam Reinhart, overrated or underrated? Overrated because I don't think he's realistic. Yeah. Number one-- It's a big ticket. Number one, him being available is one thing. Number two, I don't think he's signing a deal in Vancouver for like under 11 million. If he's going to sign-- Or 10 million at least? Yeah, like, look, if he's going to get 70 million in free agency, he probably stays in Florida. Yeah. He'll take eight years in Florida at-- Nine. Yeah, nine-ish, nine and a half, 10-ish, nine and a half matches him with Matthew Kachuk, you know? Like maybe a shade below or something in between some-- I mean, now he doesn't have 100-point season under his belt, but he has three straight 30-plus goal years and a 57 goal year, right? And he's 20. He's turning 29 on November, but still, right? I just don't think he's realistic. I mentioned Gensil, even Gensil's, if you can get him in that eight-nine range perhaps, but you're not getting Reinhart in the eight-nine range. No. And if it's not in the eight-nine range, Vancouver can't do it. He's going to get 10 plus million. If he makes it to free agency, he's getting over 10 million. It's overrated because it's not realistic. That's how I would say it. In terms of the play, I'd love to see him here, but-- The thing with Florida is obviously the tax situation, but he obviously loves it there. And everybody's always said that there's a number there that would fit for both sides, and you can kind of see it. It's in that nine and a half million range on an eight-year term, and for you to get-- if he makes it to free agency, the team that has to get him is probably going to have to pay on a seven-year deal, 10 and a half, maybe a little bit more than that, because that's essentially what's going to be comparable to him getting eight years at nine and a half million per in Florida. And that's probably what's going to be on the table for him from the Panthers. Keishon, Jonathan Marcheso on Elias Petterson's wing, overrated or underrated. I like Jonathan Marcheso a lot. But I am going to say overrated. Really? Yeah. I'm going to say overrated. I actually think it's underrated. If you can get him on a three-year deal, for instance. Yeah. A three-year deal, you would be interested in that? Oh, yeah. So that sounds plausible. He's 33, right? Or honestly, two years would be ideal. With three years, like, can he be a Pavelski type? He's getting at least three or four years. And it's probably between, what, six and seven million? Pavelski got three and it was seven per. It's 21. But that was also, he was a bit older when he got that. But I think he also maybe had a couple of better years or whatever. But I mean, you're talking about a guy who can score. It can really shoot and score. If you can get him for a three-year deal, I'd like five per year. Yeah. Now, it's probably going to be more than that, obviously. But it depends on the number. But I don't mind Marshall at all. It's like a two or three-year deal guy. Sat, do you know Jonathan Marshall's 5'9? Yeah, I was really surprised. But here's the thing. But here's the thing, guys. He's really good. He's won a Consmite. And I'll give credit to guys if they overcome their size and they're good. Clearly, I am where Marshall's so, right? To me, it's not-- I don't care about your size if you play well. Just don't be small and bad. I don't know. 42 goals, like-- Don't be small and bad. I'm just not buying like-- I'm buying that he's more of a 30-goal score than he is a 42-goal guy. Sure. That's what he's been is basically his entire career, between 25 and 30 goals. Well, give me 30 goals in a way. And this, yes. Sure. It's better than you and me care. Well, I'm just saying. I get that. He's not number one on my list, right? But I'm saying like, I don't-- So if you can't get a guy that you feel like is going to be your long-term fit, I'm not against you going for a veteran for two or three years. Like, I'm not doing four years for him. But like three years, if it's like shade under six or something along those lines, like, sign me up. Another player that ultimately, I think, is going to stay with his current club, though, makes got some serious things to figure out with their salary cap situation after signing no hand fit. But-- We say that every year. I digress. They'll figure out a way. Yeah. And next-- Well, Tonya Harding, one of their players. All right, you're on LTIR next year. We did it. Austin and Langley. Your football team getting a new manager. Overrated or underrated? Overrated. It's the best. So much help. It's overrated, man. Well, I mean, Chelsea does it every three months, so-- Yeah, exactly. I'm sick of it. I'm sick of it. Chelsea-- So since these new owners took over, they've had six different managers. It's been two years. Two years? Two years. Yes, managers. Now, two of them were like, hold. Like, one was a one-game manager, because, you know, interim. And then, Lappard came in to-- the Lappard came in to see out the rest of the season. Yes, they came in to me the full-time caretaker manager. But they're going to be hiring their fourth. Like, they're going to be on through their fourth full-time coach in two years. Yeah. It's a lot. Yeah, it's a lot. So I'm sick of it. Enzo Maresca, man. Italian. Is he good? He was like one player, you know, how we talk about like prospects you were in love with that you thought was going to be great? That was Enzo Maresca for me, way back in the day when he was a prospect coming into Juventus's midfield, and he played in Spain for most of his career. I don't know. Now he's a Pied Guardiola disciple. So he's just like, he's bald. He's a midfielder, and he was working under PEP. So he must be good. Let's give him a job. Let's hope so. That's kind of like, you know, member of Sean McVay, if anybody was even associated. If you're Sean McVay's barista, even, like you got a job in the NFL, that's kind of what it is. Walked by Sean McVay once, and now I'm a head coach in the NFL. For me, it's very underrated, though, because my club, Juventus, has had their manager for way too long. Max Allegri, Mad Max, and it got real stale, and I'm ready for a new chapter. So welcome in Tiago Motta, who's one of my least favorite players in actuality of all time, but he seems to be a pretty good manager. Didn't he just retire, too? He feels like he just retired last year. I hated him so much. Every time he was in Italy starting 11, I was like, man, this guy stinks. How does-- So I'm so-- It gets so worked out with soccer. It's so funny. Soccer in baseball. You just see him when we watch-- He's a watch. He's a related thing. He melts that. He's riled up. I'm even mad about their stupid City Connect jersey. Those are pretty bad. It's like, what are they? They got a three-year-old to draw this in kindergarten class? Overrated in kindergarten in three years old, but you know what I mean? Overrated underrated Bluejay City Connect jersey. It's so bad. Did you see the actual leak of it today, though? There was someone in lids who just had the actual jersey. They look a little better. There's no-- they're not orange. It's red. OK, that's better. It's still not good. They're trying different things, all right? Sure. It's very overrated. This whole City Connect thing is weird in general. A few of them have been good. The Diamondbacks had a good one. The Nationals had a really good one. It was like the flowers. Yeah, those are cherry blossoms. Yeah, I don't mind you trying things. What was it? The color rush in the NFL were pretty cool. Yeah, some of them. Some were good. Yeah, those are the vintage ones. This year, we're good. Yeah, they were good. They see Hoxone was great. Well, the NFL, the NHL, what were they called? The retro, whatever. Reverse retro. Reverse retro, yeah. That was bad. I see those connectors. These are the sprite can at winners all the time. But the second one was good. The Johnny Canuck one? Yeah, that was cool. That one was cool. Hit or miss? Hit or miss? All right, next. This one from Dom, Custom Golf Clubs. Overrated or underrated? I don't know why I got chirp so much for this. Because you made custom golf clubs. And also, you made content out of it, which was great, by the way. I got an invite from Heywood Golf, local, shop local. So if you're learning for new golf clubs, Heywood Golf, just open it up. A new joint out there in Burnaby, where they fit you up for clubs, and they build the clubs custom for you right there in the house. So it's a pretty cool experience. They had me out to build a golf club. I was stunned at what goes into it, and how much goes into it. It was a really cool process. So I got to custom make my golf club, stamp my initials on it, so it says DR on it, which is kind of fun. So are you hitting it any better? It's been raining. So I don't know. TVD. TVD. We'll find out. That's all I care about. Are you doing well, you guys know? I mean, I'm the king of the skull around the green. So maybe this will fix? Yes. Probably not. I think that's more of a meat problem. So this is you got a new 52 degree. Yeah. How far do you usually hit that? It's kind of like anywhere between 80 yards and 105-ish. So because I dial it down a little bit, you're not supposed to hit your wedges full. If I were to hit it full, it'd be like 110, 115. So I'm just thinking, I'm imagining like the perfect scenario where it's a short par three. And you use that club. Yeah. Get your first hole in one. That's the dream. That would be unreal. I would have to go and make my own club after that. It's got a great high launch. Extra spin, haywood, known for their wedges. They started as a direct-to-consumer company, doing just wedges. Now they build out your full set. It's a wild place. It's really cool. Look at that. Yeah. I'm eager to see if you already have-- Look, I still suck at golf. Like, I'm OK with that. But I am wildly obsessed with it. It's not from a lack of effort. I don't think I would have a relationship with my brother if we didn't golf. Like all we do is just talk on the phone about how bad our golf game just was. We're good. See, none of my siblings are into-- Well, all of my siblings are young, but the only one that's not young is not into sports and not a big relationship. So maybe there's truth in that. Golf fixes everything. Yeah. I don't know if that's true. I've got to wait for him to get into golf. And then we'll be best butts. Yes. This one from Andre, Wes Anderson. Overrated or underrated? Oh, man. I am not a Wes Anderson guy. I think it's the most overrated filmmaker of all time. I don't know if of all time. But I would say I like Moonrise Kingdom. The Gran Buddha Past Hotel I enjoyed. And I'm sure there's other movies I've enjoyed, but I don't quite get it half the time. Yeah, that's my thing. The only one I've watched of his is Gran Buddha Past Hotel. I was like, this is good, but also I'm confused a little bit. That one I think was more straightforward, but most of his movies I'm like, what are we doing here? Yeah, some of them are just like, sure, like the Asteroid City or whatever. What a weird movie. Yeah, real strange. It was awful. I think I'm just not like a guy where it's like, oh, this is such a good film. And you've got to really read into what's going on in this movie. I just need it to be more straightforward. I guess I can appreciate the art of it sometimes, but just not my kind of movie. Simple as that. Wes Anderson overrated. What about Tarantino? Overrated or underrated? Oh, Tarantino's definitely. I mean, he's well rated by most people. So I don't know if he's underrated. I mean, some would say he's overrated because he has a tendency to copy a lot of other great directors and foreign filmmakers and stuff like that, which I respond by saying like, don't most people copy others in terms of like some of the stuff? You know what I mean? Is it a copy or inspiration? Is it an influence? I was influenced by guys I listened to on sports radio. 100%. So I think that that's always the line, right? And I think anytime somebody doesn't like somebody, those are the things to point out. You know what I mean? So I'd say, but I'd say like, I actually study Pulp Fiction in university, one of my university classes, like actually like the screenplay for it. And like, it's pretty wild. Like once you're like digging into why he's making the references and what goes into it and the amount of work and preparation and the significance of the things, even the small things in the screen or kind of often the side a little bit, like it's incredibly detailed and nuanced. It's pretty wild when you really start digging into it. So I respect the level of detail he goes into. Everything is there for a reason. Yes. Every single thing. And I, I don't know, there's not really too many Tarantino flicks that I haven't liked. I think he's very overrated. Wow. Once upon a time in Hollywood, might be my most hated movie ever. Really? It's like one of my favorite movies. 'Cause I went into it being like, this is gonna be good, like I've heard a lot of good things. It is really good. And I hated it. Have you watched it again? I watched it once. Okay, you need to watch it again. It's just 'cause you're young and you're like, you don't get it. It's still for two hours. I just think, I think you missed it. I think you missed it on that one. Nothing happened in it, I don't know. I mean, everything happened in it. I had to think of it. So much happened. Wow, I disagree. Well, honestly, I think that it's just a lack of worldly experience for you more than you're doing. All right. I'm not mature enough. No, I don't think it's fair. I just think like, you don't know too much about the whole Manson stuff too, right? Like, to be fair? I did some research after. After worth, yeah. It didn't give me more of an appreciation. It didn't. I was like, this is still bad. Yeah, I really enjoy it. I've watched that movie like I think 10 times. Really? Yeah. To me, it's like super rewatchable. Wow, it's incredibly rewatchable. Yeah. It's so good. But like, even Jackie Brown, great. Man, he had so many good movies. There's some like that I was like, eh, okay. True romance is even fun. Oh, true romance is like, if you haven't watched, if you're, if you haven't watched real romance and you're a movie buff, what are you doing? So good. Next one, Woodrow. Wearing crew socks with shorts. Overrated underrated. So those are like the longer. No, that's underrated. Is it? It's in fashion now. That's my vibe. You guys know. I've seen sat where this has been my vibe for years. I haven't figured out the trend 'cause I just wear the no show socks still. No, apparently now, like, if you wear ankle socks, it's a sign that you were a millennial or Gen Z, right? I guess we'll get like-- I wear ankle socks all the time. I just don't own crew socks. And I just don't really like the look of them on me. Really? I guess it depends on, you know, you know. I got short of preference. I grew up knowing like, don't wear socks with slides and now everybody's doing it. Now it's in, right? Now it's like cool. Yeah. Like I got my burks and I'm wearing socks with them. Yeah, I don't know. I'm not a big fan of that look in general, but yeah, I'm a crew socks with short guy. I'm a short guy. I guess I'm old enough and I'm married that I don't care to figure out the new trends so much. You're just all golf attire all the time, right? It's pretty much the way I go. Fair enough. It's comfortable. Looks good enough, I guess. Basketball fill. Being on air from three to five instead of four to six overrated or underrated. On non-game days, it's great. So in the summer, fire it up. Yeah. But I mean, on-game days, I mean-- Then it's-- Then it's beneficial to work straight into the game. But I mean, in the summer, who doesn't like being off a little bit earlier to-- Oh, three to five is like-- Go out and be able to enjoy the sun, get a nice walk-in, whatever it may be. 100%. 100%. Like it's nice. You've done a five and you have plenty of time to do whatever else. Honestly, I'm like, we're doing two hour shows in the summer and we don't have Canucks games to do. And I'm not working weekends. To me, it's like, I'm almost on vacation already. Yeah. I mean, I would, like, in the summer, I would prefer to work like nine to 11 or something like that. Yeah, your whole day. Yeah, that'd be nice. Fair to dream. Discount Dracula. Drive through car washes. Overrated or underrated. I mean, why would they be overrated? I think they're overrated. Well, I think it depends on, like, if you feel like they damaged your car. Some feel that way, right? If that's what you feel, then maybe overrated. I wouldn't say that. But whenever I go through drive through car wash, it doesn't feel as clean as if I cleaned it myself. No, here's the thing. I'm with you. But the thing that's-- if you're not worried about the scratching thing, which I think is overrated in general, but somehow that concern. But would you rather have a pretty nice clean car consistently or a super nice clean car once every two months? Because that's how long it takes you to detail and clean it to that level, right? Yeah, that's fair. The worst part about going through the drive through car wash is having to get out afterwards and drive out the car. Because it's still wet. You go through that big blow-drying about the end. It never gets a full dry on it. Then you go-- if you don't dry it, then you just get a bunch of water spots. See what I love when I live in North Shore was. I take it, I live in West Van. Go to North Van, and then get on the highway and just zoom down the highway afterwards. And I dry your car really nice. Go through one exit. We're good. Nice and dry. We'll end with this one. Gary Garrison, mash, overrated or underrated. What like to hear from the younger generation? Mash. Mash. I mean, you haven't watched. Honestly, it's underrated. Because it was a comedy show, but at the same time, it was really real. It had a great message, great acting. Incredible actors came through it. And look at some incredible ones that you were probably accustomed to watching a different role. Started out through Mash. The cultural significance of the show, too. And how it spoke out against war in many ways, too. What was going on? Honestly, it's super underrated. I'm probably dating myself here. But as a kid, they would have a lot of mash on TV, especially in the mornings and stuff. It reruns a ton. So I remember watching it as a kid. And I'm like, man, this is really good. And as I got older, you have more of an appreciation for it. I never really watched it. My dad loved it, though. And I was just too dumb to actually care about what it was and what it was trying to do. And never spend enough time watching it. So I'm just being completely honest about it. For that, it's probably underrated. Because I didn't give it the time of day, and I probably should have. Well, yeah. Or it means it's overrated because you had it all on it. I was one of the greatest TV shows of all time. Yes. And I've gone back and watched like Sopranos and multiple times. Why wouldn't I go back and watch mash? Also known as one of the greatest TV shows of all time. Yes. It's got the great Tom Hagen in it, so. Oh, he does, by the way. All right, Dan Rachoe, Satyar Shah. Tomorrow, we've got a full show tomorrow, 4 to 6. Yeah. Yes. OK. All right, we'll figure it out. We'll find out tomorrow. Oh, a quick one here. Somebody said entourage overrated, underrated mic in his car. Quickly, I thought it was underrated. I rewatched some of them recently in his trash. Like, I romanticize it. I'm like, because I love entourage. I watched them like-- I watched the seasons the first few times. Like, I'm scared to rewatch it for this very recent-- I rewatched it. I was like, man, I'm going to really laugh at these already gold jokes. And I was like, oh. All right. Maybe not. Not as-- in some good moments, but not as good. I love that show. But maybe better left in my memory than it is for real. All right. For producers, Josh and Zack, my co-host, Sat. I'm Dan. You've been listening to Canox Central.
