Chief Justice John Roberts is rejecting a request from some Democrats in the Senate to meet, to talk about Supreme Court ethics and the controversy over flags that flew at Justice Samuel Alito's homes. Here's the AP Soccer McGonney. The flags are like those carried by Capitol rioters. Two Senate Judiciary Committee Democrats asked Roberts for the meeting a week ago and wanted him to ensure that Alito recused himself from any high court cases concerning the riot or Donald Trump's bids to overturn his election loss. Roberts declined the meeting and noted justices decide for themselves when to step aside from cases. Alito told House and Senate lawmakers yesterday he will not recuse. Sagar McGonney, Washington. A unanimous Supreme Court cleared the way for the National Rifle Association to sue a former New York state official over claims she pressured companies to blacklist the NRA following the deadly 2018 school shooting in Parkland, Florida. After rehearing some instructions and testimony, the jury and former President Donald Trump's Hush Money trial is now in its second day of deliberations. Trump's daughter-in-law and Republican Party co-chair Lara Trump was asked about what the campaign would look like if there was a conviction. "We will have him doing virtual rallies and campaign events if that is the case and we'll have to play the hand that we're dealt. Everything has been stacked against him from the day he came down the Golden Escalator in Trump Tower in 2015 and decided to run for president." Trump was on Fox News Channel, a temporary fix allowing President Biden to appear on this fall's ballot cleared the Ohio House during a rare special session. An Oklahoma man pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer during the Capitol riot, where he also allegedly pushed an AP photographer over a wall. South Korea says North Korea fired a barrage of missiles toward its eastern waters. "The missile barrage came days after the North unsuccessfully attempted to launch a military reconnaissance satellite. Speaking to reporters, Japan's Prime Minister, Fomiyoki Shida, said that the suspected missiles were believed to have landed in waters outside of Japan's exclusive economic zone. Shida also said Tokyo strongly condemned the launches. He added they were in violation of UN Security Council resolutions against the North. I'm Karen Chavez. Louisiana could soon become the first state to require the Ten Commandments be displayed in every public school classroom. The state legislature approved a bill mandating a poster-sized display of the Ten Commandments, in large and easily readable font, be required in all public school classrooms from kindergarten to state-funded universities.
