This is AP News, I'm Rita Folle Le. No verdict yet in Donald Trump's hush money trial, the jury will be back at it today. The AP's Michael Sisak in New York on what could happen. Ultimately, it could find Trump guilty, not guilty, or if it goes on long enough, there could be a hung jury and a mistrial. Now the jury can also find Trump guilty on some charges, not guilty on others, guilty on all, not guilty on all. The jury must be unanimous in its finding. That means all 12 jurors must agree either way. Forecasters are warning of more fierce thunderstorms today across the nation's midsection, heavy rain flash flooding, and dangerous heat in South Texas and for much of the central and southern Florida peninsula through the weekend. Tonight Alabama will execute a man convicted of killing an elderly couple 20 years ago. Jamie Ray Mills attacked the couple with a hammer, a tire tool, and a machete, say prosecutors, so he could steal prescription drugs and $140 from their home. How long can the war in Gaza go on? A top Israeli official is answering that question. The AP's Karen Shamas with that and the latest on the war. Israel's military has said it has seized control of a key corridor that runs along the length of Gaza's border with Egypt. The seizure could complicate relations with Egypt, which has warned against an increase of Israeli troops in the area. The move comes as Israel has deepened its incursion into the southern Gaza city of Rufa. A top Israeli official meanwhile has said Israel's operation in Gaza could stretch through the end of the year. I'm Karen Shamas. This morning China's President Xi Jinping is calling for an independent Palestinian state. She also promising more humanitarian aid for people in Gaza. Here at home, Vice President Kamala Harris gives the commencement address today at the U.S. Air Force Academy graduation in Colorado. This is AP News. Now to that flag flap. Justice Samuel Alito is rejecting calls to step aside from some Supreme Court cases because of flag controversies at his house. In letters to lawmakers, Alito says his wife was responsible for flying an upside-down flag at their home three years ago, and an appeal to heaven flag at their New Jersey Beach House last year. Both flags were carried by rioters during the 2021 Capitol attack. The Supreme Court is considering two major cases related to the riot, and Alito says neither flag incident merits stepping aside from them. In nearly identical letters to House and Senate Democrats, Alito writes he was unaware the upside-down flag was flying at his house until it was brought to his attention. He says he asked his wife to take it down, and she refused for several days. Sagar, Megani, Washington. And I'm Rita Folle, AP News.
