brought to you by the saunter's uh... that's uh... yana kansas read all you guys got different car sponsors you know that's we do uh... don taylor and uh... for the saunter's uh... so we stand the cup final is set florida and edminton and some of what sat and i we're just talking about is uh... like vancouver felt close to edminton but how close do you think they are to these two teams that are meeting in the Stanley cup final well you know that that they took amazon seven games and lost by one goer game seven so pretty dark close i it's uh... florida looks so good and and just so complete and just comfortable in every situation they're in and and not many weak spots all on the team so i think they're obviously the conoxer close-up anything they prove that i think florida went to the series and i'm not so sure how close the conox are to florida which is strange considering one of their you know five six defensemen is all over eckman larson but he's a big look decent uh... especially at the price tag is playing for it in florida that guys i just go back to october november everybody we had on the show every guest we had that have played in the n_h_l_ that covers the n_h_l_ on an extensive basis all to a man they all said that they talked about two teams one was delis and that you know that that didn't didn't work out and but the other was to again to amend to a woman with the florida panthers this is going back october November they felt that was the best team of the national hockey did you know uh... i don't i know that you know they finished first overall or anything like that but look what they did they get to take the finish first overall you're just they're just really good i don't know and i know i believe the conox are right there with the orders i'm not so sure what the path is i'll be surprised that that was a serious yeah i don't know the only thing with that minton is be the way they got through dallas i was surprised that i mean not how easy it was because it wasn't an easy was a close time checking series in one six games but i was really impressed by how at msn was able to lock it down as well as they were in stewardship isn't isn't there strength but they never let him be a weakness for them either and it's going to be a lot different against the florida panthers but i wonder if if msn really found something here with their team game that that really is tangible because the way they they closed out i mean yeah game six especially in the second and third they can hang on but hung on but i thought they're really impressive on the road in game five yeah and and you you let let's talk about game six here and they're they won but there's some negativity there and that they got outshot thirty five to ten i believe the shot attempts were seventy three twenty four and in favor of dallas but the orders one and i think what's happening with them is something that and i love listening to rick talk it talk hockey who doesn't it just so so open and obviously incredibly intelligent and knowledgeable when it comes to hockey but he talked about being comfortable number one in games that are tight they know if it's one nothing either way you can you be comfortable in that situation and and not panic it just do your job and think about your foundation of defense the other thing he often talked about was how you have to be comfortable and fight through games in which you're not at your best and they and mc david said it after the game konamah david said it after the game there wasn't a great game like that but but they fought through that you have to as a pro you have to realize that you're not going to be on your game perfectly every single night but you can still win and they they proved that yesterday the orders dead and i think that's in that way i think they've grown where things aren't perfect for them you know mc david was great early on certainly that may have been his best period of the playoffs the first period but as things were on it was obvious dallas seemed to be the better team but emmett and ended up winning so that word that we heard about the kennuck's resiliency i think the owners have had really have that in spades right now and i'm not so sure they have that had it i know they haven't had it in years past it's pretty impressive as as impressive as as you know the the rest of their game has been and and they've needed that because and they've had konamah david and leon dry satin in prior years and not made it to the final but like donnie i i keep looking at the the points per game in n_h_l_ careers in the Stanley Cup playoffs wane grittske's number one mariolo lamua's number two and then it's konamah david and leon dry satal right after the top five rounded out by the great berry peterson shout out to to berry um but it's like these are two of the greatest playoff performers we've ever seen like in n_h_l_ history and this isn't eighties hockey where you could you know score from the hash marks and some goal is just gonna flail away trying to make a kick save i mean this is this is a wildly different sport than it was forty fifty years ago yeah and by the way i didn't know that berry peterson stat that's awesome uh great playoff performer berry peterson yeah and and really nice guy and i i thought he played just fine in vancouver unfortunately people will look at that and say it's the worst traded in conox history but that berry had nothing to do with that he he did just fine there just that he what you didn't have a hall of fame career uh like like cam nearly but where were we with the question again i'm sorry once i hear you know once i hear something from the old days it's hard to get me back on track it just is the way i am and i apologize for that of course uh i know people in our text inbox are going to be like well berry peterson never did that when he was a konak so that's why no no whatever made the playoffs it wasn't his fault okay okay that's very true and he had rick middle did i i'd do rated players in n_h_l_ history on his wing when he played with boston so that helped but he was nothing but a gentleman uh when he was yeah well my point my point was mc david and dry sidle are like they're they're two of the greatest playoff performers we've we've ever seen and uh it just got lost to the berry peterson comment i always i i always i'm not gonna say i feel bad because he's so revered so respected and rightfully so but yeah how do you feel bad those times through the years at the old funny station there and and whatever we've had them on whenever we interview marsell dion you know the question is you're one of the greatest players of all time you can look at up statistically you can talk to people uh you get all the anecdotes you want marsell dion is one of the greatest players of national hockey league history in kings wings rangers just fabulous but then you always have to ask them that question you know where so how much do you regret or not necessarily regret but how how disappointing is it to you to have never won this downly cup and not a at a whole lot of playoff success at mc david and dry saddles careers seem and i'm not saying marsell dion had a bad career by any means it was just fabulous uh personally but it seemed to be trending that way and i'm not an oyler's fan at all but i just just the thought of that that player let's focus on the canadian here 97 not winning a Stanley cup and again i don't want to see the orders with another cup they won their five cups and you know all of that and they were it was say they're an arrogant cocky back then gretzky was probably the least cocky guy of the team so i don't necessarily want to see them win another stally cup but i want to see mc david win one i really do i don't i don't want that great canadian hockey player to go through his career having not won a stally cup it's conflicting i i really would like i'm picking florida but there's such a big part of me and it's it's conflicting that i want i want to see mc david win a stally cup at least once in his career and maybe it's just because of those broadcasting moments and having to talk to marsell beyond and ask that question feel bad about it maybe that's part of it but my god i love watching him play and i just think it would be a shame if he didn't get his hands on hands with a stanley cup and and you know especially when you know dan you mentioned those stats with him a dry subtle and just you know how productive they've been in in the playoffs through through the years and yet not really coming close until now you know it's it's one of those things i think a lot of connects fans want to see corner mc david win a stally cup they just kind of wish that he'd get traded and win it elsewhere and yeah you know but we'll see if that actually happens or not but you know today somebody asked me when i was at the gym whether i picked the oilers or the florida panthers to win i was like you i'm like you know what i think the panthers are going to win but if i if you were asking me to put money down i was going to do the don taylor special i'll pick the panthers to win but i would put any money down on the oilers to win the series like that's that's kind of how i feel about like i don't feel confident to put money down on the panthers to win it so like if i'm putting money down i'd rather put it on on the oilers and there's extra juice because they are the underdogs in the series but that's kind of how i feel about the series like i'm picking the panthers but a big part of me wonders if they just pull it off the oilers yeah which maybe kind of like they did against that also though having skinner improving game uh you know that obviously that obviously i helped a whole lot maybe part of like like look i don't know how you guys feel but there's also a part of me that just can't believe that it's the panthers and like 96 was a blip it was the 96 when they made their the static of final the first time was equivalent of the all due respect the 82 Canucks it was a blip but even maybe more so because i i just think we have a hard time wrapping our heads around how good this team has been for what three or four years summer they won the president's trophy whatever for whatever that's worth it's worth something a couple of years ago lost to the static of final last year but they legitimate they look really good and they're tough they're old school they don't take any crap there there's offense there i like their defense the broskis a great great goal candidate Paul Maurice wonderful coach and yeah they're just i just think a lot of us have a hard time wrapping our heads around you know that franchise doing well because it's been it's been a tough go there for for so long and you know us for so many of us i remember rambling here and i apologize but for so many of us when we think of the florida patters the first thing that comes to mind is all those empty seats between the blue lines every time you watch a game there and that's not the case right now but that's one of the first things that comes to come to mind and i hope for the sake of the NHL those days are long gone but they're they're legit despite what's happened in the past i uh i just kind of want to see florida win so we can all uh stop having the uh is sasha barkov the most underrated player in the NHL debate which isn't even a debate like nobody under rates them anymore anyways yeah it definitely well i had a lot to do with the nobody between the blue and watching that team so there there is that but uh man he's just so good he's so big and just just makes the right move all the time and his ability to see the game and make the right play and and just be so strong defensively one the selfie trophy there's just there's just so much there and we're seeing a whole lot of it right now and it really is special it'll be interesting to see what he does in his in his matchups against begave it in grind subtle now now i'm not saying that the dallas stars lost the series because chris tannev was hurt i'm just saying after chris tannev got hurt and he played hurt dallas didn't win another game in the series in games five and six he's obviously a free agent now i know you and you and dale have talked about it quite a bit there's gonna be a ton of interest in tannev should he hit the market and not re-sign in dallas but do you think he should be an option for vancouver do you think he will be an option for vancouver and free agency well i i i know that he wouldn't mind that chris tannev wouldn't mind that and i think you know the the products would would love to have him and i i think that even though he's not the biggest guy in the world he would fit that rick talket type of defense because it's not just i it's mostly it seems to be mostly both sides with rick talket but also there's that toughness at old school you know grit there with tannev like very few players in the nhl i think he's only a fit if ronik was so was going to leave any of and i'm assuming myers is going to stay what rick has heard and what we've heard is that he's going to stay so on that right side you know tannev with hues wouldn't be bad and if he'd get something from from her ronik for old cranky there if you get something right down the line maybe it is a fit but many people forget you know yes there's a big strong connection between chris tannev and the vancouver connects and it would be a fit certainly would help them defensively but there are 31 other teams in the nhl so they sometimes people forget that no absolutely and i think you know when we look at what the connects are trying to do i'm not saying that they're not prioritizing their defense of course they are they they want to bring ronik back and if they don't they have to acquire some pretty high level players to replace them obviously but i think one of the reasons why we're not seeing anything get done quite yet with some of the guys lower down the roster and that would include myers but as rick's been reporting i think there is it's pretty clear what the range is going to be if and when they do sit down and finally hammer this one out is because i think they want to get their big pieces sorted first and i think they really would like to add a higher caliber player and right now the player that's out there that we hear about the most is as nage has from from carolina and the rumor being that maybe he gets moved by friday i'm wondering if that's a bit of a domino here for the connects are involved in trying to improve their forward group to see what happens with that player before we see them move on to some different things yeah uh and look that they're investing 11.6 million dollars in a cap hit you know the least peterson per year some move like natures would make sense if it means you could you getting a winger that could help him get his game back and and maybe you know if the knee issues go away maybe that it doesn't matter it's funny that both him and mike have had the knee issues and i think they could obviously help each other out yeah if they're both healthy but if they it seems right now that it they need something somebody to help out the guy they're paying so so much money so i wouldn't be surprised at that move and if if it's it's her own the arcade that that moves on although you know like you want to mess with what happened with quin use this year i'm not so sure but it might make sense when you talk about all the money you're you're spending on a leah peterson then then maybe the tannab rubrics makes more sense we'll see yeah it's uh it's funny how like so many conox conversations it's like they all circle back around to a leah's peterson well how would they have had a better chance against the oilers well if leah's peterson played better you know and and what do they do this awesome well they're paying a leah's peterson a lot more money it's just like uh so much about this team and it's it's why he's been such a big part of every conversation come comes down to him like for like the off season for as much as yeah you need another big time forward and you want to fix the the defense like what's going to make this off season look pretty good next year it's it's if leah's peterson gets back to form starting in october or or they signed very peterson well one of the other you know like well boston broons berry peterson more so than there you go bring rick middleton uh with my guess that's not possible but but uh yeah yeah it's just uh i i i gotta believe there's something to this knee problem i don't know if you you guys have ever had tannanitis i have it ruined one beer league season for me if you look it up on the internet actually you can't but um i can up the a s a s h l stats now on uh on don taylor hey hey yeah but yeah go right ahead good luck um but it's if if that is indeed what what and who's you know we're we just say to not to not believe the guy um but if that it's a bitch like like that's a real real problem that just never never ever seems to go away and there was something up there i just when i walked him i don't know you felt sat and dad but when i when i watched him and there were times when there would be a an area past where he had to go and get the pocket he just would hesitate and i got to believe there there was something there so um if he returns to health then if you get a glimpse of the old like i just can't the one thing with peterson when you talk about the good times it's hard to get that that goal is scored against the rangers out of my mind and where's that guy i think he can get back to that he can get back to that and that's that's something special so um obviously he's got to do is uh see his doctors and and little advice for everybody it's called dromelane pineapple extract you can get it at any uh local health food store it helps the tendinitis see well we'll get dolly get that word across to his agent there yeah yeah we've talked about it on the show actually the extract of pineapple and i know they're listening so i'm sure they're on top of it you know you know your hope though it's like i'm hoping that his playoff peterson uh it's kind of like nazlins you know not his first playoff of anchor because you know they made the playoffs the first year he was here when he got traded over and he played six games but back in 2001-2002 when he played the red wings and he only had two points and then looked like nazlin you know that you would have expected had 40 goals in a regular season a lot of talk about where is this player can he be a playoff performer and then you know obviously then following season had a big year then he had a good playoff despite them losing in the second round and the reality is players will have bad playoffs and and sometimes they do bounce back and you just just kind of hoping that it was one of those whatever the reason was it's one of those years where he had a tough year but then down the road he's going to make up for it well do we have to even look that far that's a good example but i mean we're down on miller yeah not that long ago like like even though he was still putting up uh up the points and besser i mean look i mean last season hey i mean you know they gave his agent permission to look for a deal and everybody in town was yeah yeah it's time for him to move on nobody nobody had a problem with that when it comes to the fan base nobody at all people were down on me and look look at the season he had he was great you know three goals against national and one get just fabulous just fabulous according to players can players can bounce back and you know relatively speaking looking over the course of his career you know this this really bad stretch came kind of came out of nowhere and you know interesting that it just happened to happen to line up with him signing this massive contract so it wasn't it wasn't a great combination for people who followed the connects for a long time and are used to negativity but yeah players can bounce back you know he gets he takes care of the knee the problem there you know maybe things uh things get get better i just i just can't believe he could drop off that much and the other thing too is i don't know about you guys i i have a lot of confidence i think a lot a lot of conduct fans who will say way in Rutherford alvein and pocket they they for the most part have made really good moves and and and you know when it comes out of people say well what about the chaos they did you know nobody could anticipate a knee injury right off the bat with him and and surgery down the line but but for the most part the moves have been fabulous and i i just have to think their belief in talking giving them an eight-year contract like they did that there's a strong foundation there that they really believe in it these guys seem to know what what what they're doing so i would i won't be surprised if he bounces back are we gonna look back at this season now with Edmonton getting to become final as another one of the what if years in connects history oh gosh that's a great question um yeah and and you know falling down three nothing in game seven certainly that'll that that'll be uh brought up if the oilers win it'll be interesting because if the oilers win it'll be like go hey that could have been the conox then again it could be hey the oilers won and you guys pushed them they pushed them to seven games that's pretty commendable that means next year's going to be really good look look uh i mean that's the way you hope it works if you're a if you're a conox fan no no a really good team very few good teams and this includes Florida they end up winning it this year like i think they will very few teams that when it's Stanley Cup don't go through some sort of playoff disappointment or adversity before before they win it all and i'm not seeing the connection or what it all but that that that's a roadmap that's very familiar and you know you could look at what you know last year's Stanley Cup champion it'd be a difference a strange situation being so successful so early but there was playoff disappointment there i'll go way back as i often do you know eyeliders and you know them losing to the Rangers in the Leafs before they ended up winning their fourth rate the oilers had their playoff disappointments losing or you know losing to the LA Kings losing to the uh losing to the uh you know to the islanders in a Stanley Cup final so there's always playoff disappointed before teams make it big and maybe that maybe this is the start of a of a real successful stretch for the Canucks Donnie we appreciate the time as always thanks for this at any time guys uh appreciate it lots of fun uh there is Don Taylor on sports at 650 brought to you by the salt motors powering the playoff drive home of over 400 pre-owned vehicles and where the players go as Gordy Locke says i'd on Twitter uh i'd rather listen to this Barry Peterson talk than you guys fawning over McDavid and Dry Sino yeah and right now Josh Elli Wolf is texting us about who we should have on tomorrow yeah guest-wise Barry Peterson well do you think there's an appetite to have other guests on or not i think it depends on on the appetite on on the people listening but uh you know what we can talk about with all the Oilers media taking shots at uh Canucks media i don't know the the list is is uh yeah shortening on Oilers guests that are palatable on Vancouver radio yeah i haven't seen the clip although people have been sending it to us on on twitter of luke gas that going off on Canucks fans too or something like that are on some podcast on luke gas deck even him i couldn't make people are going after him pretty hard for being a homer during the Canucks series right so i think he's he's firing back as i'm sure Oilers fans say that about beexa yeah i mean it's one of those things um so i mean he's definitely not on the list and we know how some other Edmonton media i think have behaved yeah so yeah the list the list might be short as for Barry Peterson yeah he had 32 points in the 83 playoffs for the Boston Bruins it's juiced by one season juiced by one season but yeah you know what though it what's an interesting discussion we can talk about this a bit later but playoff good playoff performers now who weren't always good playoff performers this person texts in mathikachuk yeah and the mathikachuk his first i think it was 15 playoff games off five points off five points in his first 15 playoff games right i remember i remember having the take that man everybody points the finger at cadro and Matthew kachuk who's supposed to be the ultimate playoff player is just like awful and nobody looks at him at his playoff performance obviously that's changed quite yeah and hey his first year he he was a 18 year old rookie right no points but then back the next time it got in playoffs three points in five games and two points in six games underwhelmed for Cal agree as they went out early in the playoffs both those years but then the last three playoffs he's been dynamite henry kendall siddin when they first became point-per-game players back in 2006 2007 they had like 70 80 point seasons they had four and five points respectively in 12 games in the playoffs and after that they followed it up with being point-per-game players in the playoffs the next four times so it's like usually players bounce back from those things they learn from those things also point-per-game can sound nicer in the playoffs than maybe it is in actuality because maybe you built that point-per-game on you know a three-point night or a four-point night but yeah you know like results matters results matter more to me in the playoffs yeah right um obviously when you're mick dave and dry side like mick dave's got 106 points in the playoffs in 67 games yeah well they didn't have like 50 points against la in the first round yeah so it's like yeah they're having they're incredible in the playoffs but um it's it can be a tricky thing just looking at points doesn't give you the whole context of course uh all right coming up Ed Jovanovski is going to join us of course a great former kenok panthers analyst he's going to give us his take on uh the matchup and what's gotten florida back to this point and if they're ready to take lord stanley's mug this year after being runners up last year stay and reach oh satyr shot kenok central back in on kenok central dandrich oh satyr shot kenok central is for n-zahn pacific van covers premier chrysler dodge ramen jubes superstar on second avenue between canby and mane or an n-zahn pacific chrysler dot ca of course we are in the kintech studio kintech canada's favorite orthotics provider powered by thousands of five-star google reviews sore feet what are you waiting for you know the uh the sad part about having no hockey this week is uh i'm just going to have to watch more of the blue jays getting lambasted by the baltimore ariles as i just look up and there's another home run being hit off of kevin gossman yeah it'll be a long summer for the blue jays yeah as anytime it looks like the summer is going to be better it just turns out it's not going to be great i uh i might just have to be the homer simpson gift for the summer and like go into the bushes as a jase fan come out of the bush as a Seattle Mariners fan you might just for the summer just for the summer i don't know i mean that you did it with the seahawks so i can't put it past you here we go well i mean it's what happened i'm just stating facts well the dolphin's stunk okay they deserve to get dumped anyways and how are they now yeah still bad uh all right dad reached out sad tiara shaw so it's going to be the florida panthers and the edminton oilers in the stanley cup final and we're getting a lot of techs being like please no more oilers content on kennock central so you know what we'll we'll limit the oilers content and we'll bring in a panthers analyst well-known vancouver kennock joebo cop ed jovanoski panthers analyst joining us now on kennock central thanks for this joebo how are you i'm doing well guys everything's good i guess we're gonna have a little bit of hockey with they're all here for the week they're starting to heat up here for for the weekend for faturday uh should be a fun fairly cup final i know uh i know everybody wants to see the final start right away but i kind of think of it in the same way like hey at least maybe we're we're gonna get the best version of these two teams with them having the ability to rest up and also a couple of days off between the the travel day games like those that that feels like it's going to be a good thing for the product at least i i believe so yeah i mean i saw that i mean obviously with the travel being you know pretty far apart i think that extra day is going to be crucial and uh and beneficial for both teams and i think if you look at florida side i mean relatively healthy i haven't heard anything um compared to last year right there was really banged up and see all the injuries that came out you know towards the end there and um you know i think it's very nice to uh have this week if there are guys nursing something that they can uh feel great heading into uh it's a Saturday well and it's one of those like one of those things too about this team they've been through it last season and you're you're right about them being healthier but it's also like the way they're playing and not to say they're not being physical but it's like they really they really know time and place of how to play physical how to smother teams how to take it to teams like in terms of how they're playing is this about as well as a team can be rolling heading into a cup final you got to think so i mean you look at you know all three areas of the end you know from the goaltender through the d through the forward systems play for checking play much talked about how this team for tech however letless they are in that offensive zone hounding down pucks and crayon opportunities that way um yeah i i mean when you look at you know this team how you know how to look the makeup on is in the depth of it you know it's huge when you have that experience right when you did it last year and now you know what to expect from everything you know from the media you know a preparation kind of we are anxiety before game you know that's all handled a little bit differently and i think it's gonna it's gonna help them tremendously i'm starting at home which has been a very tough place for for teams to you know establish much i know it's a fairly cut finals and and there's gonna be opportunities because we are going to see make david and dry so you just can't you know stop them at every single moment they're going to get the chances so some intriguing match-ups you know with the bark off make david match-up i think it's gonna be uh quite fun yeah and uh i'm sure make david and dry so are expecting it they they kind of get it all the time but i don't know if they've played a bunch of jerks like the florida panthers you know like these these guys the the way they play the mentality of the team it's just it's i can imagine how guys hate playing against the florida panthers that's what i would say yeah they got that swagger to them but it's not a it's not like a cockiness swagger swagger i mean they go out there and do their job i mean they go out there and they work this team you know following them during the year and they're you know you go in the CMS again they're banged up there they're icing you know their bodies they they play a hard style and you know prior to marice coming in which there's not telling you anything yeah you guys don't know but just kind of refresh everything i mean you said listen the way this team plays you know it's not gonna it's not gonna work in the playoffs so they change that style the way this team checks the fence that you know tracks the pucks the way they have that inflate the middle of the ice and defense it's all try to keep everything to the outside and on the other side of it i mean just the way this team works along the board and everything like it i mean to chuck it to chuck's one of the best you know i'm doing it really kind of patrolling but it's rearranging to someone and really kind of protecting that pucks Bennett another guy um so yeah it's um can i guess all facets of their game are are going right now which is um which is nice how much has mathika chucks game matured from where he was the last couple years to where he is today well we talked about experience right and i think we all you know mature as that has been moved along seems to say the right things you know you look at you watch in the interviews and um as much as he's kind of that character type guy where he can joke around you know a lot of thoughtful words come out of his mouth and i think that all comes back from obviously you know being in the dressing room with his dad kind of seen it his whole life right so he's polished in that area but i i got to believe going through what he went through last year you know obviously the change from Calgary coming to Florida right into the Stanley Cup finals you know broken sternum through the summer you know now you know right from the get-go this can you know we're on a mission and training camp and i think that comes from the maturity and the leadership of that group saying hey listen guys we taste the this let's put the work in and let's see what we can do and like he said he saw him on that clip i told you we'd be back yeah for sure and yeah from your perspective you know you you go to the the Stanley Cup final is a rookie right and then you made other playoff runs of course there was the times in in Vancouver where you guys came up short as well i mean it's it's not exactly like it's easy to go and do this no not only twice in your career but certainly in back-to-back years yeah no it's it's impressive when you really think about it because of how long 82 games the grueling schedule the dog days come you know halfway through or you know and you're kind of having that pushes right towards the playoff and now the excitement come the last year you look at the way they did a scratch and cough barely come 10 right now to the end of the season have fighting yourself in that position to play some extra hockey and they caught fire and and and got to the final so short off season preparation you know what's the goal in mind you know obviously you know nice regular season they're very consistent and going to camp a Boston in New York no even feet as well i mean it was um some grinding playoff hockey that they seemed to do well and they find themselves once again you know in the Stanley Cup finals which is pretty impressive back-to-back years you talked about how when Paul Maurice came in he had he had everybody played differently they had to involve their game as a team to take this step and one player who really epitomizes that since coming over to Florida is Gustav Forsling and the things he's doing in the postseason not just offensively but also how good he's been defensively like does he really personify that growth as a team and in as an individual with how he's played absolutely i mean you look where he was a handful years ago waiver pick up um you know just what he's done in the Florida Panther uniform obviously rewarded this year with a nice you know lucrative deal um i still think for the Panther friendly deal but um hey listen at the end of the day i i mean you look at his game he's a guy that's never out of position he's like a Nick Lindstrom let's the puck do the work when there's an opportunity to jump into a hole he's very quick he anticipates the play well and he has those tough minutes him and ecchi play against the pop line so his task at home when you have that matchup would probably see him against you know 97 so uh just can't speak highly enough of of Forsling um i didn't know much of him when he came over here to Florida but uh he's opened he's opened up a lot of i'd not only itself Florida but around the league yeah it's uh he's turned into quite the defenseman and you know from a defensive perspective defending Conor McDavid and Leon dry side will not uh an easy task uh you see McDavid score goal like he did last night to to help uh the Oilers clinch the series and and go to the Stanley Cup finals like you know what sometimes you just can't defend this guy he's gonna he's gonna do things that are impossible to defend but i think the Florida Panthers have the perfect perfect recipe and that is just keep the puck that's what they did against the Rangers right they they hardly let new york touch the puck and and it was so difficult for their stars to make a difference in that way and that's the thing about this this Florida team is like yeah they're good defensively when they need to be but they possess the puck so well it just it's hard for other teams offense to really get going and get into a rhythm you're right and i'm not a huge analytics guy but the analytics numbers were certainly slated in that favor of the Florida Panthers in a lot of different areas and and you're right i mean that you know you have the puck you know the the opposing team can't score i mean that's plain and simple but uh look the way i mean you got to think mary hayston is a top 10 defenseman in the league usually um he made him look silly that's just the type of player Conor McDavid is and he's going to get those opportunities the way he skates on his veggies he does things at a high rate of speed controlling the puck he's going to have his moment i mean there's no question about it you know but when you when you look at team defense the way this team defends and layers you know you be one guy typically if everything is is working the way it should be you're gonna have to go to two or three other players defensively in the zone off the rush is a different story you might dangle one guy to google and it'd be all in but the defensive zone this team defends and layers is very tough to penetrate and get to those areas where for a great ace scoring opportunity they're okay giving those opportunities from the outside but they do an excellent job defending the middle of the ice and that that comes from just uh palm reef structure on how he wants it from the play well and you know obviously sasha barkov has been incredible playing down the middle do you think he's still underrated across the league i don't think so i i mean let's see just one another self yeah i think you know around the league um but he's he's got a i mean players definitely got to know and and fans and and media they know who this guy is um but sad i i think when you look at like barky he i i think honestly i think he'd rather break up a play than than probably set up a goal he's not you know and selfish and then you want to see him sometimes like not so much on the offensive side of things set up a teammate rather than use that wicked shot he has throw it to the net but um he's certainly a 200-foot player and he's obviously recognized for for that he takes crucial face off face off plays against top players that's what i'm saying i'm really looking forward to just seeing that match up it's too high end to lead players you know going at one another and uh that'll be interesting to see but can't say enough about him i i think one other thing guys this part bark up i think he's coming to that real big leadership role that his captain do when he first off the captain feels all like listen he's the highest played player you know we're going to give him the captain he one of those things and and i think now he's saying all the right things he leads by example he can get pissed off at times on the ice he's big load to move around so i think in every area this guy has stepped up and and be the leader that this he needs and everybody's followed behind hey joebo really appreciate the time as always it's going to be a hell of a series thanks so much for this all right guys any time there is uh ed jovenoski joining us uh here on uh Canucks central and um going to the Stanley Cup final back-to-back as an analyst for the Florida Panthers yeah i mean it's what a what 12 months here for the Florida Panthers yeah but you kind of have like you mentioned you kind of have to take advantage though like you you got to the second cup final it's fantastic you hear the second time around but you can't like go to back-to-back cup finals and not come away with with the single cup victory right i mean it's some added pressure on hey we got to get this done here this time well also they're not like falling apart yes well that's they got to the Vegas series it was just like this guy's got like a broken leg massacre truck's got a broken sternum one player has half a shoulder i had never heard i had never heard about a hockey player having a hot yeah broken sternum i'm like what i'm skews me what his what is broken and he's playing wow i heard the stories like Brady had to help him get out of bed i'm like how are you guys letting this happen he clearly shouldn't be playing man it's so funny it was just like i remember Elliott doing like 32 thoughts and he was just like you know Matthew Kachuk um i'm hearing some things it's it's gonna be really tough for him to play he's gonna try he's gonna give everything he's got and then after it's like yeah he's got a broken sternum it's like what are we doing here maybe he shouldn't have played i'm curious as to like yeah kristan i've played with a broken foot we'll probably find that out in the next couple of days but their warriors bottom line is florida a little bit more intact as they get to the final here maybe because they've basically held the puck for the entirety of the Stanley Cup playoffs to this point gonna be a tough one for the Oilers which i'm sure no Canucks fans are shedding any tears for the Oilers certainly not yesterday and not today and never really uh this text came in did you guys talk about luke gazdick's comments already today luke gazdick of course Euler's analyst also on a new addition to the hockey night in canada crew oh i thought you're gonna say a new addition to the Oilers roster uh no okay sorry yeah it might uh seem like that after you hear this next clip is this uh Oilers nation uh podcast that uh luke gazick is a regular member of and uh he was uh well he just went off on a rant and it included uh Canucks fans Canucks Twitter and for some reason the Canucks team as a whole here it is it's awesome guys honestly it's a great day uh to be an Oilers fan um i'm happy i'm also a little fired up too um so i'm going to start there uh first of all pk does nobody's talking about he he went stars in six so pk put an egg in your shoe beat it second of all i don't know if Canucks fans listened to this when they were trolling when we were when when the when the oil absolutely dusted them they were my account still will not stop with Canucks trolls my tweet last night on twitter just saying in grafts oil country i'm going through instagram message requests here now and the amount of hate and absolute it's the most garbage jitterish gibberish trash i've ever seen Canucks twitter you're an absolute joke your team's a joke you're a bunch of losers so the Oilers are going to the Stanley Cup finals and i hope you guys are having fun watching it on tv and watching me on the panel because you guys are not there so have fun with your little whining tweets tweeting at me telling me i'm a homer the Edmonton Oilers are going to the Stanley Cup final wow all right i'm like okay i'm so you first brought this up we were in the last break after we talked to Don Taylor we were talking about it a little bit and it was brought up Luke guys gazdick's comments in the last segment and uh so i went we went and listened to them and like halfway through i'm like okay he's just he's just about to call out some trolls on on Canucks twitter like yeah Canucks twitter trolls exist trolls exist on every fan base is twitter it's uh and they say nasty things nasty things it is absolutely it is twitter at its absolute worst we all know it and deal with it and there's nothing wrong with getting upset or being offended by stuff that people say to you sometimes and it's nothing wrong with you calling out individuals who set off side things there's nothing wrong with those things yeah and like halfway through listening to this i'm like oh okay this this isn't so bad and then he's like your team is a joke what and it just as it felt like the like ron burgundy that escalated quickly it had really got out of hand fast and that's exactly how i felt listening to that clip technically Luke gazdick is is a colleague of ours you know he's employed by roger sportsnet we are sportsnet of course i can't believe what i just heard Luke gazdick say you know you're on hockey night in canada and to to some extent for me personally just hearing that clip and i don't know Luke personally we i don't think we've had him on the show certainly not recently not for whatever reason usually he's on tv while while we're doing the show um to me it feels like he's he's heard his credibility a little bit here like been completely honest not even joking about it like how are how are you as a national analyst calling out a team like that so specifically it it felt a little bit personal so whatever message is he's receiving i'm sure they're bad but also like water off the off the back it uh it happens on twitter Luke hey like i said people can say nasty things and there's nothing wrong with you calling out individuals who said stuff the thing is not every individual who says stuff represents the entire fan base but hey we don't need to you know tell people that people don't understand that most rational people understand those things i heard a lot of wheez from him and i know he played for the orlers so my main takeaway is don't take fan opinion too seriously guys yes that's the way i would view it right and and honestly the orlers won the series they don't need to exaggerate to victories six out of the seven games were decided by one goal i oh he he said they dusted the Canucks there was a seven game series game seven was decided by one goal yeah six out of seven games were decided by one goal you guys won you don't need to they've arrested the LA kings they did not dust the Canucks whatever your definition of dust is maybe they don't match up for me i don't know i to me just seemed like a guy who took away too personally yes and instead of you know and you know what you know he sounded like he's very high on the wind like he's very happy his orlers won he's celebrating with orler nation and he's doing the like bump out the chest stuff you know you know how like when your favorite team wins your message like your buddies in the chat and you guys make one of each other whatever so i just think he's he's way too excited for his favorite team winning this hockey game and he's just flexing on everybody and i'm sure if he listens back or realize why am i calling a team that won the division and that took the orlers that you all thought was gonna win in four five games seven games yeah calling them a joke hmm come on i mean you can say whatever you want about fans i guess sometimes i say stuff to you or whatever it is on social media can be the worst kinds of people that's not exclusive to Canucks twitter no and listen i don't listen the Canucks don't players don't need me to stand up for yes but i'll say the players he's calling a joke have had four more successful cures than he's had yes and they've done far better than he's had so if he's going to call these guys a joke that won a division yeah that had tremendous season had head coach who just won the jack adam's have a defense and who's probably going to win the noris trophy that's on to better and bigger things if you're going to take it so personally you're going to call that team a joke you may have to reassess things a little bit there buddy and uh i don't know one of the first things you learn as an analyst don't use we when we're talking about a team i don't know you can say we whatever you want but to me it just tells you then i know where it's coming from right again don't take fan opinion too seriously i would agree with that and if you can't take criticism on social media maybe stay away from it because it's kind of part of the gig uh it's dan reacho sati arshah i really escalated quickly people on text inbox are fired i really got out of hand fast so this has to be fake no it's that's real it is real it's video all and it's not ai it's video all right you know it's it's real i've seen the ai video so after on the player scrums post game but they have guys saying the most ridiculous stuff i honestly i hate that i know like i threw me off like that is to me that is so dangerous it's scary like i know it's fake and it's going to get better you can tell it's fake now yeah i don't know how much longer we can be able to tell that because it's uh going to get awfully dangerous at some point uh all right we'll take more of your texts and uh get into it a little bit more on the other side it is conoc central
