It's-- [MUSIC PLAYING] How we car? 844-542-844-542. We got a call on the first hour from someone who wanted us to mention that they're burying one of the last of the World War II paratroopers tomorrow at Otis down on the Cape. Charles H. Odette-- Odette, I guess it is, Odette. And we got the funeral notice. A broad star in Purple Heart recipient who was one of the last surviving American paratroopers to fight in World War II died on Memorial Day. He was 105 years old. Charles Odette. He lost his wife of 58 years Eleanor, known as Elle in 2011. He lived in Framingham. He was a corporal, and he took in four invasions-- three by air and one by sea. He jumped out of planes behind enemy lines, spent months trapped in trenches and under enemy fire hiked across the North African desert, fought in freezing temperatures in some of the deadliest battles of the war. He was the final survivor of the original members of the 509th Parachute Infantry Battalion and elite paratrooper unit. He was born in New Brunswick, Canada in 1918. His father came down. They moved to Fitchburg. They lived in-- it was one of 10 children. They lived in a four room apartment that in the early years lacked electricity. In March of 1941, he was 23 working as a hotel bellhop. Nothing wrong with working in a hotel as a tipped employee. With admittedly little direction, he was drafted into the army. And at five foot, two inches, he was one of the smallest soldiers in the war. His uniform was custom made. And because of his size, agility, and close relationship with senior officers, he was often assigned to run messages between top commanders on the battlefield. He was at Anzio. That was the toughest one he had fought. He said, he fought in the Battle of the Bulge. That was obviously-- that was more died in the fighting than any other battle in US history. Of the 750 members of the 509th who entered the battle, that was the last German counter-offensive in around Christmas, 1944. About 700 of them were injured or killed. That included Charlie hit by German shrapnel. And after the war, he graduated from BU. See, this is the way that people should earn their money to go to college. Either pay yourself or there's the-- he used the GI bill, Charlie Odette. Then he went on to a 27 year career running cost management at Finwall, a maker of temperature control systems. He retired in 1984. He lived in the same green ranch house in Framingham since 1957. Last year, Framingham declared Charlie's October birthday as Charlie Odette Day in the city. This year, his alma mater, St. Bernard's High School in Fitchburg, plans to induct him into its Hall of Fame. He died peacefully surrounded by his family at the Notre Dame Long-Term Care Center in Worcester. So rest in peace. Go with God, Charlie Odette. He's going to be buried tomorrow on Cape Cod at Otis. 844-542-42, they were the greatest generation. I mean, that was-- they were a tough group, you know? I mean, a lot of them joined under age, you know? I mean, Joe Mokley, the congressman in list that I think merchant marine at age 15, how we went there, the organized crime figure, not a bad guy from Somerville. He enlisted at age 14 in the Marines. These-- I mean, this is George H.W. Bush. I mean, he was from the upper crust. I'm like, you know, how we went there and Joe Mokley and Charlie Odette. But he was shot down at, I think, age 18 or 19, off of a-- fighting off of a flying off of a carrier. They were tough guys, really tough guys. All right, John from New York. What's going on economically today? How a couple of big things actually did happen last few days. The ECB cut interest rates today, even though inflation's not down, they only cut them 25 basis points or a quarter of a percent. But it kind of tells you the game plan here. They don't really-- you know, the world central banks don't want to recession. So the Fed, as you know, has been eager to cut rates and keep asset prices up. And the employment market's weakening here. I still don't think they're going to cut till September, but who knows? Maybe they'll move it up to July, but the real story this week and the financial markets, I just wanted to give you these stats because it's just amazing. NVIDIA, we talked about this before the A&I chip company. They sell $40,000 chips, like their potato chips, but that stock is up, started the year 500. It hit $1250 today, closed at $1210. But just to give you an idea, the S&P 500 index doesn't-- not including dividends. Just the raw price returns up, 9.6% this year. NVIDIA is 4.9% to the 9.6%. Over half. It's over half, 51% of the return. Then if you add the other three, what you call magnificent seven stocks, Amazon, Facebook, and Google, they're up 1.25%, 13% of the index. The remaining 496% or 4-- 4.96 stocks, yeah. They're only up 3% of the 9% increase in the index. So it's all concentrated in NVIDIA, which if you own the stock rate, you should be proud. And a lot of people do in their mutual funds. I know I have some of my mutual funds last night that I am. And it's in there. But just to be aware and always warning people of the risk, NVIDIA designs the chips and the software sort of the instructions. All their chips, almost all their chips, are manufactured in Taiwan. And the Chinese are becoming increasingly bellicose about their plans to retake Taiwan. Yeah, and in the event they did, and let's just say they decide they don't want NVIDIA to sell the AI chips anymore, NVIDIA can't move them to the United States for a couple of years because we just don't have the capacity. They could move the stuff around. But there's no way they could produce-- And they've been trying to-- I think we've talked about this before. They've been trying to introduce all these tax breaks, et cetera, like they did with electric vehicles. But they've written in under Biden. They've had to write in all these DEI requirements. And they're so onerous. And they're basically being asked to hire people who don't have a clue what they're doing. They'd just be welfare for these companies. And so the companies are refusing even these nice tax breaks and generous loans, right? Absolutely. And unlike the old days when immigrants came to the country and knocked down boulders and built highways, you can't do that anymore between the environmental regulations of DEI. So what should take a year or two to build one of these chip plants might run five or 10 years. They're trying to accelerate it. But they don't even have the skilled labor, really, to build a lot of this stuff. So that is one risk. If you own the video out there and you're concerned about it, I have a rough rule of thumb. I think if you bought the stock a few years ago and it was $100, which it was two years ago, that's $1,200, I would take my cost bases out and play with the houses. My, that's a safe way to do it. But the other thing is, will stand. But like you say, most of us have it. If we have it at all, we have it in mutual funds. So we don't have that option. All right. Now, what you can do is double check your mutual fund to make sure they don't have an excessive concentration in it, which a lot of these managers do tend to trim it. But you sort of benefit it from it. That's really good. The flip side of that, just to give you another stock, is people always say, I'm not going to get involved in the stock market. United parcel two years ago, it's a really good company, but they've had some problems. It was $220 a share. It's down to 133 in the last couple of days. That's the kind of stock, if you want to do individual stocks, just put it on your list. If there's a big downturn, it deals almost 5%. So I don't recommend individual stocks. But for people who want to do the research, or talk to your broker, or whatever, most companies have been left behind in this meldup in AI. And so there are going to be real opportunities of solid companies. Yeah. And somebody's got to deliver the packages, and you don't have any Taiwan exposure with UPS. Exactly. And they might even deliver chips when they're 40,000. We'll make sure they can get there, so. You know, John, I've got to call you out, though. You have to pronounce it the way the president of the United States pronounces. And I'd forgotten about this until I was going over my Biden cuts today. Cheeps. Cheeps. We invented cheeps in the United States of America. Howie, when I look at him, I think more of diapers. Kimberly Clark gets to play there on diapers. They make the adult diapers. America debends democracy. He said that today in Normandy. The bends, not depends, debends. 603 says, "A friend of mine just made $3 million from his Novidius stock." But you know, the question is 603. What's he going to do with the $3 million now? With the-- I mean, the way the economy is wobbling. What are you going to do with the money now? Right. Yeah, that's the $64 million question. If I tripled my money or doubled-- I mean, this was a $6 stock in 2016. Wow. That will show you-- if you bought 1,000 shares, then you'd have a million, too, and $6,000. That shows you how much it's going up. The company's a good, long term, but unless something really goes wrong. But man, if I had a $3 million gain, then I'd probably take some of it. Yeah, definitely. Definitely. Whatever you're going to put it in. Yeah, you've got to take some money off the table, for sure. Anything else going on, John, before we move on? Yeah, real quick. Oil has come down from the beginning of the year. It was 72. It shot up to 86. It dropped to 72 the other day. They stepped in and bought it. Even Brandon started buying it. But just to let you know, I was checking around. Gas in the panhandle in Florida is 285, a gallon, believe it or not. So a lot of areas of the country are experiencing sub $3 gasoline. It's still free in a quarter up here in the Northeast. Yeah, I saw it was 339. The cheapest place in Wellesley out on Route 9, it was 339. But it was probably like 360, 370 a couple of weeks ago. So it's down there, too, even here. Yeah, I bought something in Connecticut, 3 1/4. So that's good. But they committed to start buying oil in the last two days. So Wellesley, from about 72 to 75 1/2. So I think pretty much now is close to the bottom. You're not going to see it crash unless the economy turns out. Heating oil, by the way, I know it's early. But 285 a gallon, that average 385 a gallon. So if you want to spend some money there. Yeah, cash out in the video and buy heating oil. There you go. There you go, Valley. About eight years ago, I had the honor of being a PDA veteran using the army, and he stormed the beaches of Normandy. And I got to know him pretty good. He was of 11 years descent. And like the other veteran you talked about earlier, he was a short stature. I think he was about 5'1" or 5'2". And he said that definitely is one thing that saved him. He said he was quick. And you know, no, I'd say. He was just a guy. Yeah. It really is amazing. I met the-- I was walking Roscoe last night, and I met the daughter of a World War II guy, I knew. And I won't mention his name, but he was 18 years old, graduated from Boston, Latin. And he was in the Battle of the Bulge, like Charlie Odette. And he was an 18-year-old marine sergeant in the Battle of the Bulge. I mean, 18 years old. Can you believe that? I mean, these people, they got people that went high school. They don't get out of high school till their 19 or 20. And this guy was fighting Germans in the bloodiest battle in American history. Thanks for the call, Quent. Randy, you're next with Howie Carr. Go ahead, Randy. Good afternoon. How are you? Good. So we're burying a World War II veteran, 97 years old this week, this coming week. And he was there, Normandy on opening day. And his job was-- he had two jobs. One was being in a 40-foot crow's nest, calling in all the big guns to protect those kids that were, as he said, on the beach. Right. Storm in the shore. And he was also a gun. He was also a gunner. He only spoke to two people. He had grants that had 10 questions on an essay, and three-hour history lesson for me. And then he passed away. And the day before he passed away. From the ferrying to over. We're running out of time, Randy. May your friend rest in peace. I'm Howie Carr. Live from the Matthew's Brother Studios. We don't want to make the same mistake some of the earlier witnesses did. But that was pretty funny this morning. Let's just say neither of them was right. [LAUGHTER] I like the way Jackson pronounced it. Buke neck. Buke rhymes with puke. Neck as in beat neck. Buke neck. So where this now is, Aidan Turtle Boy, Carney, and he's been following this. He's deeply involved in the case. And today, after some really slow days, Adam Lally trying to take the air out of the ball and drive everybody away, finally we got an interesting day of testimony. Wouldn't you agree? Oh, very interesting day. I mean, they turn into different people when Alan Jackson's lobbing real questions at them as opposed to the softballs that Adam Lally gives them. And do you notice, Howard, that they always look to the jury? The McCabe's, the McAlberts, they always look to the jury and say, you guys believe me, right? Well, they try to talk their way out of it. It happened a bunch of times today with Buchanan. And it was just obvious. He was like, Mr. Confident, cool and confident yesterday. Like, he thought he was a doctor yesterday. He was up there talking about biological words. And he doesn't know what those words mean. He came across as just arrogant, pompous, and towards Dan corrupt. But he has nice cufflinks, Turtle Boy. You've got to remember that. Yeah. [LAUGHTER] Look, I love putting on a-- You know, the thing was, too, I noticed is the questions got tougher. His English began to fail him. I've noticed that before. It's Stevie Flemi, the gangster. He was the same way. He started-- he became a Dem's D's and those guys. You know, as the questions got tougher and tougher. It's-- I want to play a couple more cuts and just get your reaction to it. This is-- he's talking-- now, he was being asked-- this is the guy-- the sergeant here. He shouldn't even be up here. It should be this guy, Michael Proctor, who was the lead investigator. And that's why the Jackson got confused. I don't know if it was deliberate or not, but it was a nice move. [INAUDIBLE] Yeah. [LAUGHTER] It worked, whatever it was. But he's trying to remind people that Proctor is not there. Proctor has got all kinds of problems. He's got an internal affairs investigation. He texted, and they have the text that he was telling his high school buddies from Canton High that he was looking for nudes on Karen Reed's phone. The McAlberts offered him a gift after he cuffed Karen Reed. And he said, now you better send it to my wife. I mean, he's the guy's dirty. I mean, there's no other way to put it. And so he said, today they got these pictures, the surveillance video from the Sallyport, the garage, at the Canton Police Department. And Jackson's trying to get him to identify that the guy lurking around the taillights is Proctor, who's a friend of the family, who's been offered a gift for coming up with all this evidence. So I'm just going to let you. I'm going to-- we're going to play this cut here. Jackson with the Sergeant B, I'm going to call him. I'm going to call him Butchnik, Sergeant Butchnik. OK, that's the way I'm going. Cut 11. Do you see Proctor towards the back of the rear of Butchnik? I can't tell because of what the head is. I just know the troop of Proctor was wearing a black hat. It's the person in the video to the left to the rear of the car and wearing a black hat, correct? I can't tell. I don't want to be locked into a statement where later on, you show me that it's somebody else, magically. I can't testify to that. No magic about this. It's your testimony. I'm just asking what you see. I don't see that, no. Magically. I love that. If you tell the truth, if you tell the truth, Turtle Boy, I don't think you have to worry about someone coming up with magical evidence to contradict what you say, do you? Yeah, if I got caught in this lie later on, if you find evidence that I'm lying, I don't want to be tied to this lie. So I'm just going to play dumb. You knew exactly what I could tell that was true for Proctor's room. And he's got the winner hat on. He's got a winner hat on all his pictures. It's clearly him in that picture. And he just lurks around the tail like the entire time. And then he plays that damning 10-second delay there when all of a sudden a mystery man just appears out of nowhere after a 10-second time lapse. And you see him running away from the tail light. It's like, what is going on back there? And they gave him an inverted video. Like that video was backwards on purpose to make it seem like the tail light we were seeing was-- Was the real tail light? And it was not the real tail light. It was the tail light on the other side. Yeah, it was hidden. And so if they were messing around, that no one would know. There would be no camera on it in the garage. And Michael Proctor's just all over that tail light. And coincidentally, on February 18, three weeks later, he finds the biggest piece of tail light, which appears to be on the car when she leaves the house at 507 in the morning. And this guy's just lurking around the tail light. And so-- You mentioned yesterday that this was an inverted picture, like looking in a mirror. And everybody who follows this case, whether on this show or on your shows or in the other social media, they knew it. But the jury didn't know it if they were going along with the instructions from the judge. So let's play Cut 12 here. Is it the perspective that the jurors are looking at? From all indications, that would appear to be the right side of the truck, the passenger side of the truck. And that tail light that you can see is the right rear tail light from this perspective, correct? The way it presents itself, yes. And yesterday, during the entire period of your question, by Mr. Lyle, not once did you mention that this video is actually completely inverted. I did not know. Mr. Lyle didn't ask you if it was inverted, correct? That's correct. And if I hadn't gotten up here to get a question in you, that would be left uncorrect, correct? Objection. Sustained. Again, turtle boy, other trials I've covered, they try-- the prosecution tries to get problems out of the way themselves to prevent it being called out by the defense later on. They look like they're trying to put one over on the jury, don't they? They constantly do that, just to let them know that this is coming. I think yesterday, Lally, it's like, so Marie Harvey, so you failed your proficiency exam, didn't you? Yes, I did for the first time. And it prevented Alan Jackson from getting her the second time around. I mean, there was just some wild testimony today. And it really was damning, obviously, for the Commonwealth. We may have seen-- I asked them on the way out of court. I don't care and read herself. They said, do we just witness the exact moment when the taillight was taken off of the car? And she said, something to the extent of, we have the video. This was-- I was not sure if that was the exact-- but we have the video. Yeah, we heard her say that. The first time did the team. We didn't hear your question, but we heard what she said. Or she said, I think she said, you'll see it. You'll see it. You'll see-- OK, is that what she said? OK, yeah. So it sounds like something she has. And something was going on in that video. I don't know why he's lurking around that taillight. How about the fact that, apparently, it's procedure for the sea police to just kind of on your way to work, you know, drive by the house and see just the anything? Like, that's what he said, that's police work. Yeah. That's why they kept finding more taillights. Oh, we just kind of train our guys to just give you an area to drive by. It was the damnedest thing. He's just driving-- he's just driving by the scene, and he runs into, of all people, the chief-- Chief Berkowitz of the Canton Police Department, which had been recused. Let's play this cut. This is when he gets-- when he gets testy about the fact that Chief Berkowitz is-- we'll play cut seven and cut eight. Cut seven first. You just happened to go by 34 Fairview with me exact same time on the exact same date as Chief Berkowitz, or was that coordinated in some way? There was no coordination between me and Chief Berkowitz. As a testified, I had directed the troopers to go by the location. I planned to go by the location in the morning on the way to the office and in the afternoon on the way home just to see if any more items would reveal themselves. So that morning, I was actually traveling to that location in order to conduct a view of the area to see if any more evidence had been revealed. Prior to my arrival, approximately while I was on Chapman Street, I received a call indicating that Chief Berkowitz was at the location. He was on his way to the office. And he's wanted to see if any items would reveal themselves. Because that's how detectives work. They just wait for items to reveal themselves. Maybe the perennial tail-- the taillight flowers beside the bloom in February is-- yeah. I mean, how about this crazy idea? You just kind of put some caution tape around the scene and you bring an actual search team out and you search every inch of the area until you find every piece of taillight in the area as opposed to just drive by and look out the window. And if you see something, just call Proctor up. And then we'll end the reading in time. Here's some more about how the chief just happened. He used to-- the Kennedy PD is off the investigation, but he just happens to be driving by this residential street at the same time that the sergeant with the cufflinks make it $211,000 a year. He just happens to be driving by on his way to the office. Cut eight. So did you find it unusual or suspicious in any way that the chief of police for the conflicted Kenton PD was the person driving by 34 Fairview looking for an infra-- looking for evidence? Jackson. Can you answer that question, Sergeant? He would have to repeat it as just so much. I can't. It was a little-- it was a little wording. I'll try it again. Did you find that suspicious? Which part? You have to repeat the whole thing. That Chief Berkowitz from the conflicted Kenton PD was at 34 Fairview looking for evidence? The way you posed the question, I did not find it suspicious at all. He's the chief of the police in the town where he works, and he's driving down the street. I mean, that's not suspicious. With a conflict of interest on the very case that he's driving by. Jackson. Sustaining. He's the chief of the police in the town. Yeah, so he just-- he's got to go looking for Kalei. He's got to drive by the Albertas. He was Kalei, a week after the battle. You know another thing, Turtle Boy. I mean, this was just amazing how slipshod and shoddy this whole thing was. The body is of a Boston-- of a cop, anybody, but a cop, especially, is found on a lawn, and they don't even go inside. They don't even go inside the house. And let me just play. These cuts are so devastating. I just want to get them in there so you can comment on cut four. You didn't secure the interior of the house as a potential crime scene. You certainly know how to do that, right? That's a compound question. Do you want me to answer whether I did it or whether I know how to do it? Well, I'll ask the question. If you don't have-- if you can answer it, please answer it. OK. And you answer that question? I can answer that question. Why don't you answer both of them? First portion is we did not secure the home as a crime scene. And the second portion, yes, I do know how to do that. And you didn't. Well, yes, I didn't know. George, I know how to do my job. I just didn't do my job. But now, who did they go to interview? Let people know who they interviewed to find out what really happened. Howie, they searched my house with the search warrant because of comments I made on YouTube. And I've said this before. I should have thrown a dead cop on my front lawn. That would keep them out. They'd crib tonight for the state police. They leave you alone when that happens. Just throw a cop on your lawn. And it is so absurd. And I'm in that room. The jury is seeing through this. The jury's eyes light up when Adam Lally says no more questions. Because they know we're about-- OK, now the fun starts. Now the show starts. This idiot stops asking, what is anything? It's the color of snow. Can you tell me about that? And a big aha moment today was when they slowed down the video of Karen Reed backing into John's car and looking at the wheel. And the wheel moves. So she clearly strikes the car. And that would explain why the tail light was broken. Because she backed into it. Like a car, a metal car, if you hit it at the right angle, that can cause your tail light to break. But, you know, a human body? No, of course not. Not in the way it was broken like that. It's polycarbonate. It's not going to stop body like that in a way. And when the jurors saw that, like there's a one juror in particular who I noticed, like, looks around a lot, almost falls asleep a couple times. She was, like, furiously writing in her notebook.
