AP News I'm Ben Thomas, a dwindling number of World War II veterans were joined by a new generation of leaders in Normandy today to mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day. French President Emmanuel Macron awarded the Legion of Honor to 14 U.S. veterans and a female British veteran. Here you came to join your efforts with our own soldiers and to make France a free nation. And you are back here today, at home, if I may see. Meantime, Sagar Meghani reports the U.S. will send Ukraine more military aid, including ammunition that can be used to strike inside Russia. The $225 million aid package comes as President Biden pledged the U.S. will keep helping Ukraine defend against Russian attacks. At a D-Day 80th anniversary commemoration in France, he said America and its allies cannot walk away and let Moscow threaten more of Europe. "We're waiting to do that! It means we'd be forgetting what happened here in these hollow beaches." The President's expected to meet with the Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky in France tomorrow. Officials say the aid package will include munitions for the High Mars rocket system, which the President has signed off on allowing Ukraine to use in attacking Russian soil if forces there are either attacking Ukraine or getting ready to attack. Sagar Meghani, Washington. President Biden tells ABC he has ruled out a pardon for his son, Hunter, if he's convicted in his federal gun trial. Palestinian health officials say an Israeli strike on a school sheltering displaced families in central Gaza has killed at least 33 people, State Department spokesman Matthew Miller. "If that is accurate that 14 children were killed, they'll are terrorists. And so, the Government of Israel has said that they are going to release more information about this strike, including the names of those who died in it. We expect them to be fully transparent." This is AP News. The European Central Bank has cut its benchmark interest rate a quarter point. And stocks backed off a bit after breaking records yesterday, says Sutel has the AP markets report. "Stocks drifted to a mixed finish as Wall Street's momentum cooled following its latest record-setting day." The S&P 500 ended just barely lower Thursday, a day after the benchmark index set an all-time high for the 25th time this year. The Dow added 78 points, that's about 2-10%, the NASDAQ composite dipped 1-10% after setting its own record. Several retailers fell after detailing more struggles for lower-income customers. Big Lots sank more than 18%, Nvidia's stocks swung to a loss of just over 1% a day after the company's total value topped $3 trillion for the first time. The European stocks rose modestly after the European Central Bank cut its main interest rate. The Federal Reserve is widely expected to leave rates alone when the U.S. Central Bank meets next week. Seth Sutel, New York. And I'm Ben Thomas, AP News. Thanks for listening. Imagine, no more shots at midnight or 2 AM juice boxes.
