Welcome. Oh, here we go. We've got the whole for some here. Welcome to the Inside Texas Football YouTube channel, powered by InsideTexas.com. Drew Kelson with the buzzer beater. He's joining us tonight. Justin Wells, Eric Nelline. I'm Joe Cook. Thank you for watching this. Make sure you like the video. Subscribe to our channel on the March to 8,000 and want to get there. So help us out. Also head to Inside Texas if you use the promo code IT1 for two months of premium access for just $1. It's obviously June 5th. I'll get you through August 5th. Heck, you may get some practice reports by that point. Drew, good to see you back on here. How you been? Man, last day of school in Houston, HISD. Did I end of the year party from my new nine year old? So just made it in the nick of time. But my time was June is, you know, maybe was pretty busy finishing out the end of the school year. And now we got June. We got practices coming up. We got practice reports coming up. It's just perfect time to tune back in and be locked in as we work our way to August. Absolutely. This time it's a, it's a recruiting heavy time. Eric, it's been fun talking about 26's and 27's Justin as well. But this upcoming weekend, the 2025's are going to start to take center stage with a lot of different prospects. Starting to trickle in, you'll see more over the next weekend and of course the weekend after, but the process really gets going this upcoming week. Yeah, absolutely. This is, and you like the fact that they get a buildup, you know, they get, they're going to be able to refine their, their processes. Everything's going to be right on time as far as, you know, the support staff and everybody's going to have their pitch down. They're going to, you know, things are going to start running more seamlessly the more, the more reps they get. So you like that they're going to be able to, to get some practice reps this week. Caleb Chester's coming in handful of other guys. The Coleman twins are coming in. Dorian Brew, I believe is the next weekend, not this weekend. So that's, that's an important note. There's one defensive tackle coming in too, I thought, or another defender. I forgot who I mentioned, but yeah, it's going to be a weekend. Who's that? Sharma. Yeah, there you go. Jaziah Sharma. Yeah, that's a big one. They, they got to make up some ground on that, I believe Alabama's right there. Oregon's in the mix. So that's, that's probably one of the most important recruitments in the next week or two. Justin speaking of a 2026 is who are involved with Texas and involved with inside Texas football. Shuderian Ball checking us out one more time. We got to talk to him last week or this past weekend about his camp experience you did and good to see that he's back checking us out again. It is, it is. He, you know, he actually FaceTimed me from the pool party and he almost scared the crap out of me with a few things, but we were prepared, Joe. We were ready. We were ready if something was about to go down. No, he had a great time and I think all those guys did. They all, that's something, you know, that says something and Coach William said this the other day on one of our streams. You know, when the four stars and five stars show up and they want to compete in camp and they already have offers, that's telling because that's just a clue that a player is saying, look, I know I have an offer without a spot because I think some of these kids are starting to figure out just because you're offered necessarily when we have a spot. The number two quarterback in the country, Dabelle, that it was so important for him to compete in front of the star and coach to move away. He took it over from Dallas Austin in the middle of the night. That's how big the Elite Camp was. Our coverage was fantastic. I really appreciate everybody involved in. Yeah, Adrian was big time. One other note, I didn't even get the memo for the, give me that TPS report. We got a, we got a, we got to make up for the last couple days of what could, uh, can see what we, be called spring, I guess. Uh, it's not, it's actually summer yet. So we're, we're getting them out while we can. To that point, Justin, like you talked about this from Michael and Sark wants competitors. This is a guy where this is a, this is where guys get a chance to distinguish themselves and, uh, drew that, that applies right now for the team at least as far as summer workouts and you've been part of some, uh, storied summer workouts when it comes to Texas history. But what is the competition look like or what did it look like then? And is it look similar now? No, it's funny. They call it, they call it competition now. Uh, but then we just call it everybody collectively getting our ass kicked. I mean, it just, now I think it's just, it's just different, uh, because it's intentional. Uh, I think 20 years ago when we were playing and anybody who played at the time, it just wasn't intentional about culture. It wasn't intentional or as intentional about, uh, what you're building and about how you're building it. It was just intentional about, are you working? Are you working? Are you showing up? Are you pushing yourself? Are you hitting goals? Are you progressing? Uh, these guys get so much more out of these off seasons than we ever did. Uh, I just can't say that enough. So it's just, it's always an exciting time of the year. Cause we often look back and think, okay, who's going to progress and who's not? Uh, who or how well are we going to be next year? But this is the time of year where guys really start making that push. They get stronger. They get faster. They light bulbs are going to start coming off for some guys. So, um, this is the critical time and I'm, I mean, it happened for us and it'll happen on this squad too. Eric, for, uh, for this, we got to mention that if you see some highlights, at least in years past, I'm sure this summer it kind of, uh, applies similar, but if you see some highlights on social media, maybe not at this point quite yet, cause it's week one, but what color shirt they wear is a little bit of an indicator of the competition, correct? Uh, it has been. Yeah, you've got to kind of earn your stripes. It's, uh, you know, we, that's not the new. We had that in high school. If you hit certain marks, whether conditioning or just accountability, doing the right things, you know, you're going to wear a different color shirt. Uh, it's just kind of a way. It's, it's not hard to be at the top, uh, but I think it's used to shame guys that aren't, uh, where they need to be. You know, that's, that's basically the thing. And then it's another element of competition. But yeah, that's, that's nothing new. I think that goes back to at least the nineties in high school for us. We got to say hi to one more recruit who Texas has her eyes on. Chris Stewart, Seattle Creek wide receiver. Thanks for joining us from quick elite. That lead wide receiver. That means, uh, that means play speed is, uh, is, is unreal, man. He's, he looks like he's running 10 one out there at all times. Good to have him. Always good to have our buddy Brett Nelson tuning in with a super chat since this is a strong year for defensive tackles. Do you all feel this is a right cycle to reset the market for defensive tackle recruiting? Justin, the wheel landed on you this time. What's your answer to this one? I don't necessarily, and thank you, Brett, always big, big fan of Brett Nelson, me personally. I don't know about you all three. No, listen, I don't necessarily, I don't know if I would say it's a strong year for defensive tackles. Um, maybe in state, there's some good ones. There's some real good ones and there's some good ones nationwide. Uh, but do you want to reset the market? Uh, I don't think so, but you can't go empty handed, empty handed. You know, this is, this is a cycle that Baker's going to have to get a couple of guys. He's going to have to land some of these guys. And, and at least four is what I'm thinking that just came to me. That's what I'm thinking. It's got to be at least four. And as Eric does this, John Cena, Barrett, Nalene, uh, gesture after a goal. Um, you know, Zion Williams is numero, uno, very important. No matter what he says on July four, Texas is going to recruit that kid through the whistle, uh, through December. Um, Brandon Brown is going to be tough to hand on, hand on to, hang on to, but we've kind of been saying that for a while now. Josiah Sharma talking about him a little bit earlier, ginormous target. That's a kid that, if they can take, keep them away from Alabama, that would be a great get. DJ Sanders out of Belville, Eric and I have been doing some, some Intel digging earlier today on Sanders after his Michigan official visit. And I think Texas is in a good spot there too. And so that, that one's got to play out a little bit more. Um, and then, you know, there's a handful of other guys, you know, you saw the, the California kid offered yesterday. I'm not, I'm not into a resetting the market mood. I really am not, but Texas has got to stock to cover this cycle with defensive tackles. And I think it begins with Zion Williams and Josiah Sharma. There we go. Try to make sure I'm not lagging. Um, plus seems like Eric, that type of thing is not going to occur here in, you know, June. That's something that if they wanted to reset the market, that decision is not happening in the summer at the, you know, it's happening in December at that. Yeah, I don't, I don't think that I don't think it'll come to that. Um, they do, they do need to land for good quality high upside, high floor guys. Can't afford any misses in this class. It's too hard to get them out of the portal. You know, we've been talking, we've been talking about the importance of defensive tackles in this class for two years now, because you could see it building up to this. You know, roster management is not all that hard. It's pretty easy to predict where your holes are going to be. What is hard is making sure you don't have anything goes sideways at the last minute, like we saw with, with Bo leaving and losing Deontran, some other of those losses, but predicting the needs in advance is always an easy thing to do. Actually getting them across the line, that's a little bit harder. So Kenny Baker's back is up against the wall, but I feel confident between his ability, the project, the trajectory of the team, you know, going into the SEC, the amount of bodies and, you know, options that they have right now, I think is right where it needs to be. So I'm not worried yet. Everybody's trying, you know, everybody on IT is trying to get us worried about it. We're not, we're not going to worry. We don't do that. That's, that's y'all's job. We're just going to keep covering it. We feel like they're, they're an okay spot, maybe not exactly where you want them to be, but, but it's no time to pull the fire alarm yet. Thing is, if you reset the market, you got to live at that market from, from there on out. Got a good question from Colton. What weight does Anthony Hill play at in 2024? Right now, he's making a little bit of a move from Will linebacker over to the mic spot to replace Jalen Ford. He's listed at 243. Does that sound about right to you, Drew? Is that a little too big? Is he holding that weight just right? Where's your, what are your thoughts on that? As long as he's running and thumping, I'm fine. But, but the main thing I want to see is, you know, how is he taking on blocks? How is he getting off blocks? I mean, I know he can fit gaps just fine, but he's had the benefit of speed. He's had the benefit of athleticism. He's got the benefit of just, he does have that ability to thump. But, you know, different defense, different position, the offense, I mean, the defense probably will be attacked in different ways. He's, he's, he's going to have to show some physicality and not just for this season and for us to succeed, but for even for his own prospects of being able to, to show that he can be an off ball linebacker at this level and continue to develop and improve. We know the raw skills are there, but the execution has to follow. So I think the way it'll be right, it's just it all comes down to, you know, not making any compromises on physicality while it goes around. Justin, I think when you look at that Mike position and one of the strengths that Jalen Ford showed off last year was his ability to play in pass coverage. And I'm pretty sure Jalen Ford was right around 240 or at least listed that way throughout the most of the season. Jalen Ford's obviously instinctual, maybe Anthony Hill has a little bit of athleticism advantage, but it seems like it's something that Anthony Hill should be able to pick up on pretty easily. Yeah, I mean, that was one of the strengths he had in high school was his ability to, to mirror a tie-dend or running back and to stay with him in coverage. If you ever saw him in seven on seven, that's what he did pretty well actually. You know, this is a kid that's, he's an athlete. He was a running back up until his freshman year. And when he, when he, when he got on varsity, and so he, he's got that ability, you know, 243, if he's 243, I don't know if I've ever seen it looks so good. We saw him walk in Saturday morning and he did not look like 243 pounds. Okay, that guy looks trim. If he's got 3% body fat, I would be shocked. Like he looks really, really good, but Drew said it as long as he's thumping. As long as he's thumping, I think, I think that's all that matters. As long as he can move laterally, he still, he's still shooting gaps. He's still making sure he doesn't get caught in the wash. There's going to be a little bit of a transition period, I think, but that's what Michigan Week 2 for, you know, to get it all out of your system, be ready when you're in Ann Arbor. I think Anthony Hill will be just fine, especially in coverage. He's a lot longer than Jalen Ford, and he's, and he may be a little bit more versatile in that role. 235. 235 is a good weight for him. He doesn't need to overthink it. 235 is good. He's, I don't worry about his physicality or any of it. It's just a little more reps. The ball is going to come at him in a little different angle this year. He's going to see things that he didn't see last year. He's going to be asked to do things he didn't, he wasn't asked to do last year. So he's going to need some reps, but I'm not, the last thing I worry about it is weight, size, athleticism. And we got a, we got a recognizable last name there, huh? Yeah. Look at that. Got to harden those football players. A little wise interaction there. Yeah, he received a lot of praise over the course of the spring and a lot of attention obviously goes to Trey or excuse me, Jayden Blue, CJ Baxter, but Trey Wisener, someone who earned his stripes over on special teams and ran hard when he had the opportunity to. I think that Texas Tech game taking carries from, not taking carries, taking handoffs from arch manning was a real good example of what Wisener can do and shows the health of the running back position right now. I like this player. Trey plays with an edge. That kid plays with an edge. If you can put his mindset into a few other players, you'd have some maniacal effort. That's what Trey Wisener is good at. Andy plays real smart too. I mean, he had to switch a little bit to slot for DeSoto during one of those state championship runs. Did that pretty darn well as well. Got a good question from Caleb on Twitter like this one a lot. How will Colton Vossack fit into the lineup? And what's, what's the most likely improvement we see from him this year? Is it enough to declare after the 20, 25 season? I think Eric, we had a lot of high hopes for Colton Vossack injury put a little bit of a tap to breaks on that one, but he had a strong spring and it's probably going to be in in that loaded edge rotation in this coming season. Yes. I don't know what the likely improvement is that we'll see from him this year because we don't even really know what his weaknesses are yet. You know, he's a big, he's a big young buck. So he's he's a bigger body than you normally see on that side of the ball on the boundary side because he projects the Jack long term. So just like Ethan Burke is going to play a lot more Jack this season, I think his eventual landing spot is going to be over at Jack, the field side. Because of that, I don't really expect him to be pushed around on the run game all that much. So I don't think, you know, defending the run is going to, unless he's just playing with the wrong shoulder or just playing with poor technique, I don't think that's going to be an issue. So I don't know what he's going to need to improve on. I do know that, you know, a lot of people already talking about Ethan Burke leaving after his third year and some of the people I've talked to that are around the program say that Vossack has even higher upside than Burke. So, you know, we need to see it with our own eyes. He missed the whole year of development practically. It wasn't just that he wasn't playing in games. He wasn't even suiting up and practicing. So he's still knocking the rest off. He still needs to get his first game action. But the upside's very high and it wouldn't surprise me if he flashed this year and he ended up being a three year player. But I wouldn't predict that yet. Justin just kind of looking at this and thinking about that roster spot in that position, how important was that flip back in the 2022 season? It was pretty big. I mean, it was maybe it was probably as big as the Ethan Burke flip. I mean, it was important. I mean, how many years did we talk about Texas needing edge rushes? It feels like ever since Sart got there. We've been complaining about the lack of pressure on the quarterback and the need for that edge. Now you flipped Ethan Burke a couple years ago. He's developing. You flipped Colton Vossack. He should have a say in the rotation this year. You signed Trey Moore from the portal. He's got instant credibility and production. And then he happened to ink a kid in a Colin Simmons who's going to play as a freshman, similar to how Anthony Hill played a little bit last year. He's going to get on the field in some role in some packages, former fashion. I think this is Texas just listening to us, really, because we talked about the need to get to the quarterback, that the need to disrupt people in the offense. And I think that's why edge is so important. And that's why Vossack was such a big flip, not to mention he's a local kid. Do you guys remember his quotes after the Red River shootout where he was committed to OU and he was hanging out over on that side? And it was just like, I'm in the wrong place. He felt so bad. I think it was the 49 nothing blow out that he was that maybe that game will have that effect on on a Texas kid. Well, it did. And on on non Texas kids, remember Micah Hudson, he was sitting over in the section and he, he hollered at me in the second quarter and told me I got to get out of here. So he, he highlighted over to the Texas section. So you're right. Sometimes it can have that effect, but that's how Vossack, he was a local kid, he dad played at the school. So there was, there was so many little things that that kind of fit, but I'd say the Ethan Burt flip may have been even more important. I think, I think, just so I think, I think Vossack is a perfect fit for what people don't realize like we're getting here with him. If you see this kid, first of all, if you see him physically, you're like, okay, he looks physically put together. But then when you see him on film, it doesn't look like the same guy and the same body is able to move and do the things that Colton is able to do, both in defending the run and in pass rush. And I remember when I saw them at practice, last ring, I saw him standing next to severe Mitchell, standing next to, there's about three or four guys who I saw, I was like, wow, these are young pups. They all look like they should be ready to play today, but they're not ready yet. And so you can't forget that these guys are in the program. It's just this time of year where they're developing, where they're getting stronger, where they're fighting, frankly, you're going to have guys who come and ready to play. You're going to have guys who are still developing. And basic, whenever he does touch the field for us, that means he's earned the spot, but that means he's earned the snaps. But it also means when he gets going, he really is different. He really is a different type of talent compared to some of the other guys we have, both because he can play the run really well. His physical is a great specimen. I mean, to said, a great physical presence, but also he can get up to the past Russia. I do not sleep on cotton boxing. There could be snaps this season where as many as three Westlake chaps are on the field at the same time. And I'm trying to think they're maybe up to and there may be up to maybe half the defense could be from Austin in a certain situation. If you have Maccuba, Tab, Baron, Collins, Vosik, and Burke, I don't know if those all fit together, but still kind of impressive that you could find. Hey, that's plausible. It could happen. That's half the defense from a 20 mile range. That's not the column count and that makes bass track down the road. Come on. Now, it's central text. Let's just get regional about it. That's not like 10 minutes from the airport. It seems like anyways, good enough for me on that one. Before we keep on going, got to give our friend Gabe Winslow a shout out runs mortgages by Gabe.com. And if you want to start your ideal mortgage process, he's the one to call University of Texas grad, facing the Houston area, as you can see by the 832 number, but he will help you all over the state. He is the one to help you with your mortgage process. Go to mortgages by Gabe.com or call 832-557-1095. I'll help you as we talked about on Monday, whether it's a house, a condo, or even a ranch. If you're listening... Seventy lenders, Joe, 70. And most big companies only give you one. So, so you all know. Can't get that anywhere else. Good comment from our buddy, Roaster. Thanks for coming back. Saw Coach and Homer's video earlier on wide receiver transfers. That was on this channel, so make sure you stick around and go look up their conversation on Silas Bolden, Isaiah Bond, Matthew Golden. Still takes a little bit of effort. Great video, but pro football focus has Texas wide receiver room rated number five. That's asked nine. Drew, it already looks like you're groaning in anger at that one. Not anger, just I love the passion and the excitement our fans have. But if you hear what you're saying right now, we lost our top two receivers to the NFL. Are you telling me three? We ate, we portal in a top five? Come on, man. Whether you agree or disagree on top five, the fact that we were able to replenish with what PFF considers a top five, that alone is something I just can't complain about. You can debate whatever they should be ranked, but this really a more of an impressive replacement by our staff of just making sure that at a minimum, we have the depth and the talent to come in and replace those guys. I'm sorry, Rooster. I think the big story here is actually the fact that it is number five, worst. I'm trying to see if I can find from PFF College, whether this is a stats-based thing, which again, take that for whatever you want or somebody. It might be a game's graded deal. It might be their game grades. I'm trying to think of the other four because I haven't seen the list. The first school that pops up is the Ohio State. Oh, I found it. There we go. It's from, let me see if I can get a USC's probably in there. All right, USC is not even in the top 10. They lost a couple of guys. Hey, come on, Nellikon Nelson's at Boise State. Yeah. That is a crazy one. Let me see. I'm about to pull it up. Any guesses on who number one is Ohio State? Ohio State. Y'all would be incorrect on that one. They are going to give it to Oregon. The Oregon Ducks. Oh, here comes Evan Stewart talk. Oh, yeah. Oh, this one extends. Here goes Oregon. I didn't realize it can be weighted that high. Ohio State. Georgia. Georgia at four is the one that is a little bit, you know, surprised me really well at that position. I can't think of a name. Number six makes sense because of Luther Burden. Obviously Miami Portal Colorado. I mean, Travis Hunter. Is he worth that much? Max Chad, I'm a receiver's pretty good on that team from last year. We'll see how that goes. I don't mind being in the top five. Oh, I don't think I don't think I'll use that. That should be that low. I don't think I'm trying to tell me that you're coming back next, not Nick Scraut and Dion Burks. I was talking to the portal. Dan, Georgia did Georgia's Georgia's used the portal. It's not people you associate with Georgia because they got them from other schools, but Texas is doing the same thing. Texas and LSU lost the same amount of guys too. So that's equally impressive that LSU still on that list. And Texas has their quarterback back. I don't know how much difference I don't like, but you look there, you see portal, portal, develop, portal, and then a little bit of a mix. I'm going to throw John Tate Cook and say that he makes it a little bit more of a mix, but it's also a very young group. I mean, Isaiah Bond, maybe the elder statesman, and he's barely even done with his first semester at Texas. So a little bit of an interesting dynamic on that front. Got a good question. Speaking of Bastrop, speaking of Bastrop Cedar Creek, Chris Bennett, do you think we see a big year from Alfred Collins, or do we continue to see the same old Collins we've seen in the last three years? Eric, it sounded like over the course of the spring, he really worked to try to step in for the vacancies left by both Byron Murphy and Tomah Drey Sweatt. Yeah, I mean, he didn't come back to just come back. He could have been drafting the fifth round based on what he's showing on tape, based on his size, based on his athleticism. Just the raw materials would have got him drafted in the fifth round. Hell, maybe even the fourth round. So he didn't come back for that. That's a good sign, right? He had it in his mind that that was going to be his last year. The writing was on the wall after Tovondre had the year he did, that it just didn't make sense for him to leave, that it's in his best interest to come back. So I think he's taking advantage of that. I think some of the changes have been good for him too. I think not having Tovondre there is good, not having Byron there and not having Bo there is good too for some different reasons. I think he's going to have his best year by far and I think he's going to go in the second, maybe in the first round. Drew, with Collins, obviously he's a different style of defensive tackle than Sweatt and then Murphy. Just different size-wise, different in their styles and how they play. How do you see Texas maybe best deploying him alongside, you know, maybe someone like Bill Norton or someone like Vernon Broughton at times. You know, honestly, I'm just trying not to overthink Albert Collins. He's a 22-year-old senior grown man who's coming back hungry, right? How he's deployed in this defense may vary, but I don't know if there's a better set of skills, physical set, you know, at the interior alignment. And I think honestly the reason why, if you look at why he didn't play as much last year or why he wasn't getting as many snaps, well, you see why. We have two guys who were drafted quite high. So I think this year is really going to be a fun year for Alpha Collins, but also just because we have multiple upperclassmen players who are going to anchor this position and they're going to have a chip on their shoulder to follow suit on what the guys did last year. I'm not sure how Alpha is going to be deployed. It won't be, he just has a different set of skills, but his physical presence, his size, if he can just leverage his size to do the bare minimum to be the floor, what he can do off of just anchoring. If he can commit to that, really opens up everything else for him, both in the playbook and in his future. Drew kind of to that point, it's a contract year for basically any of the defensive tackles that are probably going to see a lot of stats. Collins, he's out of eligibility. Vernon Broughton, pretty sure he's out of eligibility. Jermaine Lole, ain't getting an eighth year. So as much as he may want to stick around, he's on school four and there's not going to be a school five. Bill Norton, I think he's in year six. Tia Savaya, I think this is his last year as well. So that's five guys I just rattled off right there who they don't have another opportunity. This is as driven as they are going to be or either that or they're not going to get paid to pay football going forward in their career. Anything to add on that from anybody else? I do think this is a year where we get to see if the portal by committee at that position at least works. We're going to see it at receiver but in DT, if we can make this piecemeal of a depth from coming out of the portal work this year, it at least alleviates kind of what we can anticipate or at least expect for the future because our depth, we won't have it next year. But can we portal it again? We'll be scouting guys frankly this fall to find and identify whether it's big 12 or anywhere else to bring in. So I think the good thing about the portal is we'll have a head start on identifying talent and saying, you know, hey, can we portal in the necessary depth to accommodate us until we can get guys in that we can develop? Like this question from Michael M, which true freshman pushes for Snaps' fall? Is it Simmons? Is it Wingo? Seems tougher but the freshmen seem like stronger candidates too. Michael Kern, any other options? I think Wingo is the one we talked about most but Justin Simmons makes a lot of sense and those three really are the guys who feel like unless I'm missing on somebody, are the ones you're going to push for the most Snaps' fall. Well, I mean, are we surprised? You named a punter first? No, you shouldn't be. I'm not. I'm not. It might be justified as a matter of fact. Love you, Mustakis. He's a big fan inside Texas. We're a big fan of Eminem right there. Obviously Simmons is going to play. Wingo's going to play. I mean, that's a good sign when we can't come up with a lot of freshmen to play when there's so many other incumbents. Like last year, we would have said Anthony Hill, CJ Baxter, Manny Muhammad, and all of them thrived in some form or fashion. So for here, I think you're going to see less freshmen playing early just because of the depth on this team. Like we just talked about with the D line, all those guys coming in from the portal, you've got guys damn near on one year contracts. And so I don't know if we'll see as many impact freshmen like we did last year or even the year before but give me some Kern, give me a dose of Simmons. Ryan Wingo is going to play to the point where they may not take him off the field. He's that guy right now. And so I think we could see maybe a little bit, you know, maybe maybe a little bit in the secondary. I'd like to see Kobe Black getting in a little bit. I like to see Wardo Matt. Those are guys that people don't talk about enough but are just dogs in natural corners, natural, naturally instinctive kids back there. So this summer, whoever comes to work the hardest is going to tell us something and we'll report that. And then in August two days, that's going to determine who's going to jump up in that mix. But I don't think we're going to see as many as we had in the last few years. I'll be looking for Garber's time playing time for Alex January and Brandon Baker. Brandon Baker. Yeah, I'm not sure that either of those guys are going to register just because they're not going to be around that long anyways. Brandon Baker's not really a guy that's going to be around five years. So he might as well plan. I think January is the same way. So I'll be looking for them at Garber's time. But yeah, it's a healthy roster, healthy roster. Don't usually produce a ton of early playing time for freshmen unless you have an absolute need. And because of the portal, it's super easy to address needs with players that are better options than a freshman, even if the talent, even if the freshmen is truly talented. I know I have a guy. Go ahead. There's a guy I saw him the first time and it was like, okay, he looks like he could be a player. Then I saw him play. And I just, I think it's Jordan Washington. Oh, yeah. I think he's going to get snaps this year. I don't think you're going to be able to keep him off the field. And I don't mean he's going to lead, but he's in the perfect position to just get conditional snaps kind of working into the roster, working into the game plan throughout the year, because physically, and he'll get stronger. I make sure to see what he does this off season. But I mean, if you could build a tight end out of high school and just say, hey, we have to play him, he'll be the guy that I would put there. But I think he's going to earn those snaps. He's got opportunity and he was way underrated in high school, way, way, way underrated in high school. People are like, how come Jeff Banks can't recruit? Like, it's not Jeff Banks fault that the network's messed up on Jordan Washington's ranking. It's also probably not Jeff Banks fault that Langham Creek wasn't the strongest program, I think, when he was there, tough district. But he put together some really strong seasons. Last question, I feel like before we get out of here tonight, and may have to rephrase it just a little bit, but what do you think we have to rate defensively considering our offense to ship the natty to Austin? Now, rating defensively, you know, total defense is a fool's errand, even though sometimes I'll cite it much to Paul's chagrin. But the thing that I think Texas really needs to make an impact in and be highly rated in is obviously, you want to keep your yards per play below five, probably closer to four, although that's a tall order, but it's all about havoc plays this year. And we haven't seen, we've seen more havoc plays as the years have gone on, whether that's tackles for losses, run stuff, sacks, forced turnovers. But I think they need to be, in addition to the solid self they've been, they've got to be able to get the ball in their own hands at a higher clip. In order to get it to the offense, I think that's going to score a lot of points this year. Justin, is there is there an area I'm missing on that one? I feel like I'm just saying, you know, play really good defense, but is there anything I'm missing on that front? No, I think you're missing a couple really good questions. But but I think you're ducking that baseball question high and low, like, like, like, like, Angel Hernandez, the umpire that's finally retiring, your robot net thing. And then I got to know what what Drew thinks about this NBA finals, because I don't know if he's noticed, but it starts tomorrow and Dallas is still playing defensively. If you're not in the top 40, I think that's kind of your line there. I think that's 40 to what you're talking about. We're in the naddy, dude, to win a naddy. You don't have to have a top five defense to win a national championship. You can wear wide delta. You can have one if your team is scoring. If you've got a top 10 offense in the country, you can have a top 40. As long as you're stopping the run, you can you can have a top 30 top 40 defense. I don't think it has to be a top five top 10. You got to get out of this big 12 mentality. That's valid. That's valid. I mean, Michigan wanted just because of their defense. So last year, you can't just go by ratings. Texas was number seven adjusted defense last year. And I don't think anybody saw with their own eyes and number seven defense just because it was too inconsistent. And it was too skewed towards simply run defense. So you can't let's just to say you can't go by these ratings. The key for me is they've got to be more balanced, more coordinated between the different levels of defense. And they've got they need to get more three and outs. They did not get off the field nearly as much as they should have last year. I didn't feel like they gave it way too many third downs. Yeah, Michael was stock as much as a third down conversions over here. That's exactly right. They just got to play more sound. Now they can rank the same as as they did last year and it could be a markedly better defense. But you're right. The offense is going to give them a little bit more latitude. They need to handle mesh better. If I'm going to be specific about something on this defense, it's handling mesh because last year was a little painful. And I think we're going to see a heavy dose of that this season. What was Joe? Do you remember what LSU's defense was in 2019? Because that would be that would tell us what you can get away with. Their total defense in 2019 and it's got to be adjusted. Anybody that uses unadjusted stats in the year 2024 should not be taken seriously. Well, it's this still provides a little bit their total defense rank was 31 and their yards per play rank, which is the one to look at was 29. And that's the best that's the best offensive all time and they still had to finish in the top 30. Top 30. So 40 that top 40. This is the case. I just did it. I wonder who was 40. So Texas. So here's the thing. Texas yards per play allowed in 2022 was under five. It was number 18 in the country at 4.94. Yeah, that's good. In 2023, they were number 41 and they gave up 5.24. The threshold for five yards per play was number 20 at Oregon. So if you're giving up fewer than five yards per play, that's your threshold. I feel like and that's top 20, maybe even top 15 in the country, depending on what offenses tend to do in the coming season. Any final thoughts before we ship on out of this one, Justin, I'll give you I'll give you a short NBA. You have a minute. Mavs in six. Maverick's in six. Joe and I want to know what Drew thinks. And also Joe, I'm curious about that baseball question. I want to hear what you think. Drew. I want the maps to win in six too. Hey, I watched, I watched my most basketball this entire year in Nashville with Justin last week, sitting at the bar in Nashville, and it was actually getting they lost. But I actually enjoyed watching basketball just because of Justin's passion for it. So I'll be hoping for the Mavericks too, just because, you know, I don't care about basketball anyway, so I might as well go. Drew's over there being analytical. No, no, no, no. So you see what you don't know, I'll call Big Frank up in Toledo. And it'll be 11 o'clock, fourth quarter Mavericks game. He'll be trying to get to sleep in Laidu. He's been what he was watching the stars too. So it's like for every day for 10 days straight. Hey, man. Yeah. You stressed over there. Tell Big Frank. Hey, it's going to be a fun series. We weren't supposed to be here, but we're going to enjoy it anyway. I'll touch on baseball real quick. There are no rush to do anything for patient trophy, Justin. Sir, sounds like you're OK with a participation trophy on the Mavs. I don't like that. I'm trying to temper expectations because obviously Pro Sports runs through Dallas. So I'm trying to temper my expectations. All right. Real quick on baseball before we get out of here. If they do want to make a move, which there, there are no rush to do it. And anybody that they're talking to or is worthwhile for Texas baseball, they're still coaching right now. We'll see what what CBC makes a call on. I don't think there's been a final decision either way right yet. And then, but, you know, if they do want to make a decision, there are no rush to do it. CDC doesn't like a long drawn out process as we've seen with SARC and with beard with that. Thank you for watching this video. Please like the video. Subscribe to the channel.
