Welcome to the Inside Texas football YouTube channel powered by InsideTexas.com. I'm Joe Cook. We got Justin Wells here. We're doing a quick live stream just to talk about a few of the visitors that came through Texas this weekend. Make sure you like this video. Subscribe to the channel. And of course, head to InsideTexas.com. You can use the promo code IT1 and get two months of access for just one dollar. We're gathering info as we speak whether it's me, Coach Dub, Justin Wells, Eric Nellin. We are trying to get as much info, but we wanted to come down here and talk a little bit about some of the information that we've picked up. Justin, kind of interesting that this official visit weekend started with people were hanging on Texas and it had to do with the cars that were out front of Moncrief when players, especially Josiah Sharma, showed up. Yeah, you know, you know, it's funny. You know, I think Twitter has evolved into this platform where if you like something, then you obviously hate the opposite of it. So if you're in the, you know, if you like the Mavericks where you just hate the Celtics, you know, it can't be somewhere in the middle, you know what I mean? And so that's kind of the extremes we're at. And so Texas, you know, Lamborghini wants to, you know, show off some of their cars. They wouldn't be a very really nice, high-powered, expensive automobile if people didn't want them, if people didn't drive them. And sure, it's alluring to players and prospects. They've been doing it for years. I found it funny that people were making fun of Texas doing it when Nick Saban did the exact same thing with Drake Kirk Patrick when Ferrari years ago. So I guess then it was okay, but now it needs to be out and removed. It's not needed in college sports. A little funny there, but that's recruiting. That's June official visit weekend. I think everybody gets a little crazy. You can attest to that. And so, yeah, maybe it was just something to gripe about Friday. There wasn't a whole lot of stuff going on news-wise and, you know, everyone's got to have a cause. So maybe that was their cause on Friday. Hey, let's gripe about Lamborghinis. All I know is Texas only had six kids coming in this weekend. Don't be surprised if you see a fleet of 747s outside of DKR over the next couple of weekends. Maybe some stealth bombers. I mean, let's do this big Texas. You're only doing Lambo's. But when you bring in the big guns, I'm thinking, I'm thinking some like gigantic stuff. We need to get, we need to get Demarvey and Overshown and his big green truck back in front of the chilies parking lot and into the concrete parking lot. That caught a lot of eyes. But of course, you're here. You're watching to learn a little bit about some of the players and some of the intel that we picked up. Got to start with a guy that we talked to the Florida State commit, Davey on Hillson. And he saw Florida that last weekend. He still has trips to UCF. And he also has his trip back to Florida State, ranked in the top 40 in the on three industry ranking. And Justin, I got to catch up with him. And he was all smiles when talking about the Longhorns really opened his eyes. He's got a relationship with Brandon Brown. We have a lot more of his quotes over on inside Texas. But he also talked and his host was CJ Baxter. And it's kind of interesting. I'm pretty sure CJ Baxter was committed to Florida State for a while. Ultimately, chose the Longhorns. Hillson was sold by Pete Quickowski and Steve Sarkeesian on what life looks like at Texas. And also just being from Florida, coming and visiting Austin sounded like he was just blown away from the city as well. Yeah, that's a big thing. And you were on the grounds for that one. You know, Steve Wilfone reported it a couple of weeks ago that he was taking that OV. From what I can understand and gather, he really likes the recruiting process. He enjoys it. He's very talkative and open. And for guys like us, we absolutely love that. You were on the ground there at the airport. You got to see and talk to him. I think the big thing for Hillson is those next official visits. He's knocked out the Texas one and he knows where he stands there. And a lot of times, we don't even talk about the out of state guys until they make that trip to Texas. And now that they have, I think that's where you have to find clarity because he still has an OV to Florida state if I'm not mistaken. And that's where he's committed. And so, and I believe he's still talking to Alabama. He's still talking to a number of schools. And so, you know, getting him on campus was number one. That was the biggest thing. You got the info from that on the ground. But, you know, that that Kansas, that Florida state OV, he's committed there. And that still looms large in my eyes. Yeah, I'm with you. And it's also, you got to look back. You talked about Alabama. He was committed to Alabama for a little while. So this has been a recruitment that's gone a lot of different directions. Will he be committed after saving was retired? I'm not exactly sure. But it's close to the timeline. Something like that. A lot of different players were making that decision. But Texas obviously put themselves in a really good spot near the top. Haven't overtaken Florida state, obviously. But we've got a lot more intel on Hillsin over on inside Texas. Justin, you got to catch up with Caleb Edwards, a tight end from out in California way, still hanging around in Austin for right now. But he's got a lot of visits coming up. How did the Texas one measure up to, as far as some of what he was looking for? Yeah, this the Edwards of the El Dorado Hills, California Edwards is, you know, this kid's a big kid. He's six, six, 235, 240. I mean, he's a big drink of water. You know, like we talked about, we don't really get into these out of state kids until they're on campus. Well, Edwards was at the spring game. Our own Charlie Williams talked to him and he liked what he saw. And then I got to catch up with him. He was, you know, you and I connected a little bit earlier today. He was he was sitting in this hotel room getting ready for a flight tonight. He's headed to Auburn. Next is what he told me. And so, the biggest takeaways for Edwards was that the first thing he said was that this was a lot better than I expected. He said, you know, they love the interaction. I said, what stood out this time compared to the last? And he said, well, it's just how the coaches and players interact with each other. That culture there is real. You can see it. You can you can feel it. And that really resonated with him. And I said, what about usage? He said, well, they broke down my plays. You know, they showed him on the big board. They run. They said they run between 48 to 50% of 12 personnel during the season. And that's generally two tight ends are a tight end and H back and Caleb's like, I can do either one. They like me as an inline guy. If I need to be a blocker and they like me to flex out and run routes. And that fits exactly what Jeff Banks and Sark in my opinion are looking for in the tight end position. And so before star out of West out of the West Coast, he had a great time. I think Oregon's visit June 21st of the 23rd is going to be big. I think he's really looking forward to that visit. He told me he'd already been there once. He's going back for that OV. That's a little bit closer to home if you're talking about proximity. I think UCLA actually has the lead in the RPM percentage right now. I'm not real sure where the Bruins stand with him. He didn't really mention them to me, but he does want to have a decision in July. He said it'll probably be a couple weeks after he gets back from his official visits. He definitely wants to have something before the beginning of his senior year. And so I think Texas made an impression on him. Look, he knows they're taking two in this cycle. He knows they have a Mari Winston already in the boat. Now Winston might be considered a soft commit at this point, especially taking visits to Auburn, Central Florida, places like that. And we know how much Texas has prioritized. Coyote Armstrong and Jasper and Nick Townsend in spring to Caney. And so those two I think are going to be those are your big guys to kind of see where this this clash shakes out. But ever's hey, he came away feeling better than expected. He loved the presentation. He loved everything about it. Getting him back to a game this fall would be a very, very big step considering he wants to commit sometime in the next month. Absolutely. Before we keep on going, got to thank our friend Andre the lawyer, video is brought to you by Andre the lawyer. And if you have been hurt, you need a lawyer that will fight for you. Justin, we got to talk a little bit about defensive tackled recruiting. The Longhorns had two of their top targets. You can see them on the screen right here with Josiah Sharma there on the left and Myron Charles on the right, two extremely talented players. We're going to get a little bit more intel on those two guys making it into Austin. But just the fact that Texas was able to get their word in with both Charles and Sharma, two guys who across the country have various schools fighting for their services. Nice little addition for Kenny Baker and he got to put his best foot forward this weekend. That's it. You know with Sharma, you're talking about one of the best prospects in the country. I don't care what his rankings are. That dude is a big monster. That dude is a future NFL draft pick. The big thing with him is going to be fighting off Alabama. He was used to be committed to Washington, head coach Kalinda Boor. Obviously, the Boor moves to Tuscaloosa. Sharma decides to take a few visits to Tuscaloosa already and he really enjoyed it. I think this weekend you hope that it's solidified where their priority is. That Sharma understands where they stand because this guy is a gigantic pressing need as we all know at the defensive tackle position. As for Charles, I think he's more open than people realize. I think he really is soaking in the process. You know, he comes from the same group and seven on seven group as Jamie French, the five star wide receiver target. And so there's a lot of overlap there with a lot of those recruits. Charles has been on campus before. He came back I believe in April. And so he made a return trip. I'm curious to see what what Myron says because again, I think he's more open than the than Sharma. I think Sharma, it's Alabama versus the field. And I'm curious to see how much Texas can chip away at that because I mean that relationship with the board was really big. And now you're getting a you're convincing a kid in Southern California that Alabama might be his future home. That one's going to be tough to overcome. Northern California, that's a little bit close. Sacramento was more south but you're right. But either way, that's a long standing relationship from, you know, the West Coast, Washington and their new staff are in on Sharma. The Florida big schools, Florida, Florida State, Miami, they're the one to keep an eye on when it comes to Charles. We had a little bit of a surprise visitor this past weekend in spring to canyons, very talented player. Someone who has a little bit of versatility could be on both sides of the ball. Justin, what were some of the things that you were able to pick up on on his to no kind surprise official visit? Well, the thing about Heinz too is that Texas has maintained contact with Heinz like it it hadn't, you know, that they've stayed close. That's a big thing there. They've stayed close him and Chris Jackson really have. From what we understand though, there's a chance Heinz might be looking at playing on the other side of the ball. You know, if there's a chance at defensive back, he is a dynamic football player. He's a topic kid that I think would be great in any program, you know, regardless of position. I think Heinz would be a take. And so it's going to be it's going to be interesting because we know who the three major priorities that receiver are, but we also know that if they take four, there's one more spot there that they're looking at guys like a to no kinds and Andrew Marsh, you know, guys like that. And so, you know, Heinz, if he can play some DB, I think that endears him to Texas a little bit more. Kind of got an Aaron Butler vibe in that one right now. Just because Texas has always been there and he's visited the horns of a number of times, I think that relationship with the staff is good. If they're opening up to the idea of him playing on both sides, that gives Heinz a little bit more versatility and also gives him a maybe a better chance at getting a spot in Texas. Justin, I know you're going to like this question from Brett Nelson. Thanks again for the super chat. Which defensive tackle combo would you rather have Sharma and Charles or Zion and Brandon Brown? Brett, we love you, Brett. We do appreciate you, Brett, but dad got it. I would mix it up. I would take some some Zion and Sharma. If you gave me Zion and Sharma, I would close shop and I wouldn't care about whoever else signed or committed or whatever. But in this scenario, oh, man, I don't think I can pick one or the other. I really don't because you know how I feel about Sharma. I think he is unbelievable, tremendous. Myron Charles is a dog. Brandon Brown is the one committed to Texas at this time. He just came off his Tennessee official visit. They're climbing up his board as I heard. I'm going to go with Zion and Brandon Brown. One's in the boat already. Another one, they're trying to get in the boat. Nothing against Charles and Sharma, but Brett put me on the spot. Let's go with Big Z and double B. I think the best case scenario is if they get all four and that's a very difficult needle to thread. But it's one I think that Texas would like to make happen. It's going to be tough, but the ideal situation is all four. We'll see if that's something. Yeah, Brett, where's that scenario? Who would I rather have of all four? Yeah, good call Joe. I like that one. Got to think positive. Couple more notes. You got some intel from Michael Terry, the third athlete from San Antonio Alamo Heights. Had some, you know, you spoke with him at the on three elite series. He ended up making this commitment or it's not commitment, not at all. He ended up making his visit. And Justin, just kind of what's the latest that both you and even on three still Steve Wilfong have heard on that end. Yeah, I got very little from him. Steve got a little bit more than I got from him. Obviously, AJ Milwie involved in his recruitment. I think that's their territory, but either way, that that opens your eyes. You know, the thing with Terry is a week ago, he was unsure kind of where he'd fit at Texas. He had told us, you know, the preference of playing defense, but also the opportunity to maybe play tight end, maybe play H back. And so this weekend was supposed to clear that up for him. Let him kind of know where they see him on which side of the ball and where they factor him in. That remains to be seen, Joe. We're digging. We're looking at more and more from that recruitment because we're talking about the nation's number one rated athlete. And so if we, you know, last year, that was Terry Bussey and Texas was a little late getting into that recruitment. With this year, it's Michael Terry and they were super early in on this one. Terry's already visited Austin a number of times. I do remember junior day. He spoke well, spoke, spoke lowingly. I don't, I don't see it receiver or running back. I don't see that. It would have to be a tight end. I feel like on the offensive side or edge on the defensive side because PK has been heavily involved in his recruitment. You see him in the post visit pictures. You know, and that's a guy that if you could talk him into playing some edge or outside linebacker, you may have a dude. And so I think Texas is, is just treading water with him right now. They're, they're keeping that relationship. They're keeping that connection. They let him know they want him, but they also don't let him know there's, there's other spots. There's other guys, there's other priorities. And kind of got to see what shakes out. This is the first of three big official visit weekends. And so the next two are going to have a lot more players, a lot more star power, a lot more spots to be taken in July and August. But the early returns, Terry loved it. I think he's going to continue that relationship with Texas. I know Nebraska is recruiting him really hard. Texas tech is as well. I believe he has trips to Nebraska coming up. But hey, Terry, Terry's a kid. If, if they told him he could jump in the boat right now, I think he would, Joe. He's right down the road. He's always dreamed about playing for Texas. I think it's all just going to come down to positional fit. Last guy we got to talk about Caleb Chester, Fort Bend, Marshall, cornerback, any intel on that one, especially as Texas A&M and Arkansas start to get their opportunities in the coming weeks. Yeah, Eric Nalene, our guy has been all over that one. That that's he's Mr. Caleb Chester, you know, going into it, we felt like, you know, he's, you know, he's a guy Texas once. They've built that relationship for years. I'm a big, big fan of Chester just because of, I think he's versatile. I think he can do a lot of different things. But nothing new there. I know Eric's going to have something soon at InsideTexas.com. So please, you know, stay there and keep refreshing and checking out because we're adding updates as we go. But, you know, Chester's kind of, Chester reminds me of Terry a little bit. I think Chester would jump in the boat immediately, but he's taking his time. He wants to see, like you said, A&M. He wants to see Arkansas, but I think Texas is the leader there going into this OB afterwards. I'd be surprised if that changed. Love all that stuff. They also had a camp this past weekend. Any notes you want to pass along, or is that something that we want people to come check inside Texas for? Well, I'll give you this. We've got Charlie Williams and I have a post going up here in just a bit on the Big Man Camp review, a bunch of big 2027 offensive linemen that came through for Big Man Camp. Some elite guys, okay? I'm talking about some real dogs, Kyron Haywood, Peyton Miller. Honey, these are Jordan Caraway out of Forney. We've got notes and quotes from each one of those guys. We'll have that up soon at Inside Texas.com. I am fired up, though, because I feel like the last weekend they brought in a bunch of those young offensive linemen and some came with offers that shows you they have even more on their big board because the guys they brought in this weekend, some of those guys are offer worthy as well. Kyron Haywood picked up an offer yesterday. Be sure and check out IT for that review. Thank you to our sponsor Andre the lawyer.
