This is AP News. I'm Rita Folle. Much of the nation's going to be sweating in fierce heat this week. The AP's Julie Walker. Stifling heat is already enveloping residents in the southwest and its moving east to settle in for the rest of the week. Temperatures in Phoenix have been in the triple digits. As the heat wave spreads eastward, the National Weather Service says temperatures in Washington, D.C. and the rest of the Mid-Atlantic, as well as New England, were likely to see highs in the mid to upper nineties as the week progresses, with excessive humidity making it feel even more oppressive. And forecasters say nighttime temperatures will not give much relief. They say extreme heat is the number one weather-related killer. And to take precautions, I'm Julie Walker. In California, it's wildfire. Crews are attacking multiple wildfires in California amid high temperatures and strong winds. The post-fire burning near Interstate 5 in Gorman on the main north-south route between Los Angeles and Bakersfield led to evacuations from the Hungry Valley State vehicular recreation area where at least two structures were burned. Kenichi Haskett with the L.A. County Fire Department says strong gusts are hampering efforts by aircraft crews. When it's windy, it just sprays the water everywhere else or that we don't need it. Officials warned residents of the Pacific, near Pyramid Lake, they should prepare to leave if the fire pushes further south. As of last night, that fire was nearly 23 square miles and about 2 percent contained according to CalFire. I'm Jennifer King. President Biden's re-election campaign is rolling out a television ad featuring Donald Trump's felony conviction. The Trump campaign says the Biden administration has weaponized the justice system against Donald Trump. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy is calling on Congress to require warning labels on social media platforms. He says social media is a contributing factor in a mental health crisis among young people.
