The Supreme Court has struck down a Trump-era ban on bump stocks. Jackie Quinn has details. The High Court decision finds the Trump administration didn't follow federal law when it banned bump stocks. The type of rapid-fire accessory used by a sniper in Las Vegas, who killed 60 people at a music festival in 2017. On a 6'3" decision, the U.S. Supreme Court justices agreed with a Texas gun owner who challenged the ban, arguing the Justice Department wrongly classified the accessories as illegal machine guns. The liberal minority on the court says it's common sense. Anything capable of unleashing a torrent of bullets is a machine gun, but the conservative majority suggested Congress should be addressing the issue of bump stocks. I'm Jackie Quinn. The Justice Department says it will not prosecute Attorney General Merrick Garland for contempt of Congress, Sagar-Magani explains. Garland had refused to give House Republicans audio of President Biden's interview in his classified documents case. The Justice Department has told House Speaker Mike Johnson Garland's actions did not constitute a crime, and he will not be prosecuted. The White House had blocked release of the tape by invoking executive privilege, saying the GOP simply wanted to chop up the recordings and use them for political gain. Sagar-Magani Washington.
