A.P. News. I'm Payah Punjuan. Secretary Blinken says it's clear the world supports the U.S.-backed proposal to end the fighting in the Gaza Strip. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken says the U.N. Security Council's vote in favor of a Gaza ceasefire plan makes it clear the world supports the U.S.-backed proposal. Everyone has said yes except for Hamas. Blinken spoke to reporters in Tel Aviv after meeting with Israeli officials and families of American hostages. "We are determined to bring them home." The proposal announced by Joe Biden last month calls for a three-phase plan in which Hamas would release the rest of the hostages in exchange for a lasting ceasefire and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza. "You're not going to get to phase two to drink ceasefire unless you start with phase one. So that's where it begins." He said Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had reaffirmed his commitment to the proposal, but the Israeli leader has publicly disputed key aspects of it. Hamas has demanded assurances and accused Israel of stalling in order to continue the aggression. "We await the answer from Hamas and that will speak volumes." I'm Jennifer King. The U.N. Human Rights Office is also citing possible war crimes by Israeli forces in Palestinian armed groups in connection with the deadly raid by Israeli forces that freed four hostages over the weekend. The main shipping channel into Baltimore's port has fully reopened to its original depth and width. The channel was blocked most maritime traffic for several weeks while crews worked to remove an estimated 50,000 tons of steel and concrete. Following the March 26th collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge, a container ship the Dali lost power and crashed into one of the bridge's supporting columns, sending six members of a road crew plunging to their deaths. On May 20th, the Dali was refloted and guided back to port. The port of Baltimore, which processes more cars and farm equipment than any other in the country, was effectively closed for several weeks while the wreckage was removed. I'm Lisa Dwyer. This is AP News. A new study indicates African elephants have their own names. Elephants speak at low rumbles and newly published research in Nature Ecology and Evolution suggests they call each other and respond to unique names. This audio, captured by study author Michael Pardo, is of an elephant researchers call Margaret, hearing a recorded call containing her name and calling back immediately. Another recording addressed to a different elephant drew Margaret's attention but no response. Colorado State's George Whittemeyer, a study co-author, says elephants will often respond en masse to a call from the matriarch. And another time she gives seemingly a very similar call but nobody will react to a call except for a single elephant. Indicating. They have a means by which to communicate who they want to talk to.
