On the hockey podcast network, here's your hosts, Griffin Youngs and Christian Boulay. ♪♪♪ Hello, everybody. Welcome back to another edition of the Tell It Abs It Is podcast on the hockey podcast network. I'm Griffin Youngs joined by Christian Boulay. As always, we are two games into the Stanley Cup final. The Florida Panthers lead it two to nothing winning the first two games at home and outscoring the Oilers seven to one so far in this series. And somehow, Cap Friendly has become the topic of conversation in the hockey world recently. And those are going to be the two main points of focus today. I assume we can start with the final. It's pretty topical, right? And pretty important thing to talk about. Yeah, I think it's pretty important. And I want to lead this off by just saying, "I love the abs. I think they're a great team. I think we can all be honest. They would not have stood a chance against the Florida Panthers." Yeah. I didn't think even before the playoffs, we were saying, "Yeah, I think we could get to the final." I think if we're playing the Panthers in that final, I don't think that would work out very well for us. Dude, that team is just a bunch of dogs, man. The Oilers are a very good team. And the Panthers just made... I would say light work because game one was closer and Pobrowski won the game for him. But game two, that was the series I expected. And it's just insane how good this Florida Panthers team is. And I'm in no way saying that this series is over. But the Panthers are going to have to try very hard to lose this series. It's really hard to imagine a scenario where a team wins the first two games seven to one and they go on to lose four of the next five games. I don't think the series is over by any stretch of the imagination. We still have to go up to Edmonton. But the Panthers have very much established that they're inevitable. They're not really in the business of being stopped right now. And Pobrowski on one in game one, where the Oilers outplayed the Panthers. Oh, I thought the others, like that was the game for them to steal. That was the game for them to steal. And the fact that Pobrowski stole that game for him didn't even give up a goal. Total shutout. I don't want to call this series early, but that's one Edmonton had to have. Because the Panthers were not coming out that flat twice and they didn't. And then the roles totally changed. So of course Edmonton scored on their first shot in game two. But then Pobrowski doesn't allow anything the rest of the way. It's only one one going into the third, but it still felt like this is very much the Panthers game to win. And that's why they're barring a miracle. And our old friend Evan Rodriguez, three goals in two games so far in the final, which of course, no one can just be happy for anything. He's sparked a ton of conversation of all you should have held on to E-Rod is, you know, always revisionist that he was definitely going to stay here if you offered him the same contract. But regardless, Rodriguez, I love the guy so much. He's doing, we've talked about this already, he's doing exactly what he did here now just in Florida and putting himself in the right places at the right time. Well, like the thing with Rodriguez that I loved about him is his versatility. I mean, he could play anywhere in the lineup. He was forced to play a lot of top six minutes for the abs last year because of injuries and underperformance from other players. But in Florida, he's done the same role and he's kind of gone unnoticed because the Panthers are so deep that when he does get bumped up to that top, he does get bumped up to that top line because he was playing with Barcoff and Verhagie. Yep, I remember right. He gets bumped up to that line and oh wait, he is still a really good goal scorer. He's very responsible defensively. He's just a very solid hockey player. And I'm very happy that he's getting the shine because he rules. He rules. Like I loved Evan Rodriguez, it was a bummer to see him go. But the same thing, $3 million in Florida is different than $3 million in Colorado. For reasons the abs have no control over its taxes. Like that's the reason why his contract looks like, oh, we only signed for $3 million. Why couldn't he have to match it? It's because that $3 million is $3 million. Yes, Florida dollars where it gets more of the $3 million than he would in Colorado or Toronto or Edmonton or really any other market in the NHL because it's just just taxes. Politics, like there's nothing anyone can do about stuff like that. Like could the abs have maybe upped it a little more? I mean, that's a conversation, but at the end of the day, it didn't happen that way. And if the Panthers lose to the Rangers in the conference final, we're not having this conversation. But I just like be happy for the guy. He's earned this moment. He's like my one of my favorite stories in the NHL. We're just stuck around on a bad Sabers team for a while, partnered up with his college buddy Jack Eichl and the Sabers. So of course, it doesn't work out all that much. Doesn't get a qualifying offer. Rakes out a little bit in Pittsburgh for a little while, has a pretty high shooting percentage. Comes to Colorado, has a good season, gets himself a solid contract with Florida and now is two wins away from a Stanley Cup. That's just absolutely awesome for the guy. And he plays a style hockey that I just love. He can play, like you said, pretty much everywhere. He's just one of the most versatile players I've ever seen where sometimes you see guys get bumped up to the second line or a top line. They're like, oh, he's so versatile, but he has like 10 points over an entire season playing with elite players. Rodriguez does everything. He is an actual Swiss Army knife, and that's why he's fit in so well in Florida because, okay, we need someone to go up on the top line right now because someone's hurt. You rock and do that. Everyone's healthy. Okay. You move him back down to the third line. He has no problems that you can put him on the fourth line. You need to place power play, place penalty kill. Just he's such an incredible guy to have on your team and I'm very bummed. He's not here anymore. I was constantly making that case for him last season to find a way to have him stick around, but it didn't happen that way. Unfortunately, I'll ask you this. Like they replaced him with Jonathan Drew and who was more productive. Like, yeah, our Rodriguez is producing the Cup final with his team, but I would take that trade off 10 times at 10 to get Jonathan Drew in. Spoo, I mean, you can make the argument money-wise. They replaced him with mild wood. True. Grandmates much less. True, but I look at it more as like he brought in Drew and to replace Rodriguez. And that's more what you got. Like, I still see by us wood is just a bottom six forward. Like, yeah, the contract six years, 2.5. I mean, it's a lot, but I mean, it's revisionist history. Good for Evan Rodriguez. I'm happy for him. And I think the part that is more surprising to me about this Cup final so far is Leon Dreyseidel has not been good. He's not been good. I think he agrees. And I think he took out the main cause of that towards the end of Game 2. I landed a flying elbow on Alex Barkov, which I'm sure is a total coincidence that it was Barkov of all people. Yeah. I mean, this game was, there were some dirty hits in this game. This game too. Game one, I felt like was pretty even. I wasn't like a lot of hatred towards it. But Game two, we had the Warren Fogle Neen, which looked like, who am I blanking at? Was it Loosterine? He was on the other end of it. Looked like he like, towards ACL, but he returned later in the game. And then Sam Bennett need Evan Bouchard, am I correct? I think so. I had another high shot. I think it was on Nudge in the other zone. Yep. And then you had the Dreyseidel on Barkov. Barkov did not return to the game. Did not return on him correctly. And still questionable for Game 3. And that's huge, huge for the Oilers if he's not out there. I think Maurice said today that he hasn't gotten worse, which is, I guess, a positive. I mean, I'd hope so, considering he was playing, but. Right. So with like head injuries, I guess that kind of makes sense. But like, what do you think it is with Dreyseidel? Because he had been, arguably, the playoff MVP up until this, this Cup final, and he's just been nonexistent these first two games. And I want to preface this, his line mates are like, Adam, Enrique, Dylan Hall away. So I'm not like, probably something that had too much, but he had been doing it the entire playoffs with those guys. And now somebody gets the Cup final and he's just disappeared. I mean, you can make the argument in game two that he was fine in the game. He had most of Edmonton's, granted meager expected goals so far if you dig deeper into the analytics. But I think when you're putting him up against Barkov and the way the Panthers play hockey is just, they don't allow much of anything. You look at the shot maps from this game alone and there's nothing in front of Sergey Babrovsky where you're looking at Dreyseidel, I'm thinking Zach Hyman is in hell right now. This guy cannot get to the front of the net whatsoever. And McDavid has had his chances in the series. He's had a break away. He had the assist on the one at home goal, just the way the Panthers play hockey is so frustrating to go up against. And they're, like I said, their special teams is just good enough that they are not allowing the Oilers to score on every power play or any power play so far in this series. And at five on five, the Panthers just control play where you see, I saw the highlight getting tweeted around of McDavid doing circles in the offensive zone. The Panthers are fine with that. I don't know why that got so much attention because he just turned the puck over at the end of the highlight and he's just kind of skating around the outside. The Panthers are more than happy to let that go. If they're keeping McDavid on the outside on his backhand, then they're fine with that. They're keeping Hyman out in front of the net. Dreyseidel has had no opportunities to get set up. And that's how the Panthers like to play hockey. And I think the Oilers are just incredibly frustrated. And I think Barcov was very, not Barcov. Dreyseidel was very frustrated and saw Alex Barcov. And it's like, I got a chance here to change something because we know player safety is not going to do anything about it. He got a two minute penalty that ultimately put the insurance goal in that cost him the game, but he's thinking long term in mind right here. Yeah, I mean, it was a flying elbow. It was a reminiscent of a UFC move. Like, it was, it was a good elbow. I just, if the Oilers are going to have a chance in the series, they need McDavid and Dreyseidel to go God mode. And they haven't gone God mode and they've gotten their ass kicked in two straight games. Well, because also the thing is, is like, could Chuck, Barcov, they haven't really gone like God mode offensively. But their role players have come. They're more Niko Mikula has the opening goal for Florida in game two. Evan Rodriguez has three goals in two games. And Verhagi had the first goal in game one, which is the, the best star in the series to score a goal is Carter Verhagi so far. That's fine when you think about it. When you think about it like that, like, that's the most prolific player. That was the first goal of the series. So when you have two, when you have two teams with incredibly high end talent, sometimes offensively, they cancel each other out. And now you're seeing the difference between Florida's depth and Edmonton's depth where Evan Rodriguez is better than Dylan Holloway. Yeah, I don't think that's crazy to say. I mean, that third line for Florida of Lindell, Loyster, Loyster, and then why am I blanking on the third player? I would be really, I zoned out right there. I was not. No, I mean, their third line is, is one of the grossest third lines in the NHL. I mean, Lindell is a great young player. I'm interested to see what he's going to get for a new contract after this year because he's an RFA. I believe after this year. Yeah, he's a very, very fun player because he just, he's not a super prolific scorer. His best was 44 in his rookie year. He had 35 in the regular season this year. But he's just such a good fit on that team, just such a good defensive third line center where he's just so frustrating to go up against for other teams. Like, it's, it's reminiscent of the abs and 22 versus like this fucking guy on the third line. Yeah, it's bullshit. Like, you should not be able to have that guy as a, as a third line center. I'm just interested to see what his contracts going to look like because you look at what the Panthers are going to be in the off season. I mean, what does Reinhardt get 9 million? I mean, he's not going to make more than Barkov, I'm sure, which is 10. But he could make 10 if he hits the open market, but I don't think he's leaving. Yeah, I mean, that's nine, probably nine. Probably in the Kachuk ballpark. Yeah, and then you've got Lindell, like the Panthers are just a wagon of a team. And I'm really interested to see how Thursday goes in game three because I think the Oilers are going to win game three. I do. This has not been a series that I think is really reflective of. Oh, they've outscored him seven to one. So far series at five on five, four to nothing, which is pretty crazy. The one Oilers goal was four on four, not five on five. So technically even strength, but still poor on four, which I think is advantage Oilers at the end of the day. But when in game two, the Oilers have seven scoring chances and Evan Rodriguez has six. I think there is maybe something to be said that I think the Oilers are not going to get swept. But I have a hard time seeing them when four out of five is just more than a year. I just think the Oilers, they're just, if this series ends in five, I know I talked about in the preview that I think the Panthers could get done in five. It's looking like it could go that way. But again, I just, I think there's going to be a game or two where the Oilers special teams just goes berserk and that power play scores a couple goals and the penalty kill, which had been great. Gives up a power play goal in game two, like, I still think it's going to happen, but I agree with you. I just don't know if this team can beat the Panthers four out of five times. Like it's, and they'd have to win one, at least in Florida. Because the thing is, is like, even if a game does get out of hand and the Oilers start scoring goals and getting stuff through Bobrovsky, the Panthers are not scared of that. This is not a low event hockey team. They can go toe for toe and score four to five goals if they knew to. They've done that several times in these plus. I think the Oilers are going to win a game. I think they could even win two games. But if you go to even a style of play that the Oilers are more comfortable with, the Panthers can still win those games every now and again. The Oilers cannot play how the Panthers like to play, which I feel like where we are really drawing a lot of comparisons to the 22 abs. That's what I would say, man. I was just about to say because this series reminds me so much of the Tampa Bay Colorado series because Tampa was a very, very good team. They were very good. The abs were just better. The abs won the cup because they could play however they wanted to, where if it was a two to one game, they were fine with that. They could also win the eight six game against Edmonton in game one of the conference final. They could also shut them out three nothing, the next game where you are trying to play your game and your style. And even if it works, you maybe have a 50 50 chance of winning that game where the Oilers, if they play their game 50 50, the Panthers play their game, it's over. Yeah, it's, it's just like, I do think the others are very reminiscent 22. I think they're going to come out in game three and they're going to win the game because what the, what the lightning win that game like. Six to two, I think it's a two. Yeah, it wasn't that close. I wouldn't even be surprised by that exact score line. Right. That's what I'm saying, man. And then I could see game four where the Panthers just go and crush them in game four. Granted, the accident crushed the lightning in game four, not as a cadre or hero scores, the over time. He's not dead, but he plays in three plays in Calgary, which is basically close to being dead. That was mean. I'm sorry, Alberta, that they know, they know that was. Flames fans are having a hard time right now. Yeah, but they know they're in on the joke. They know. And then I actually could see the Panthers just closing out five. Yeah, should have closed out five. Darcy Kemper just makes a save. And they have probably win game five and win the cup on home ice. But the thing that the Panthers have again, my fault gang. Well, that's what I was just about to say. The Panthers don't have you in the building for game five. So that will probably be the difference maker. But I don't want the series. I don't want hockey to end, man. I don't. I don't seems like I'm trying to talk myself so much into the Oilers making this a series. I just think after they lost game one, that was an opportunity for them to like the best opportunity they're going to have to win a game because the Panthers didn't play great and they still won. They had to split and they had to split these first two games because I do think they're going to win one in Edmonton. I don't think this series is a sweep with it being seven to one so far. But I'm on board with you where I really hyped up this final. Like I was really excited for this thing. And I do not like the Oilers by any stretch of the imagination. I'm sure the dam will break for me eventually and I will get into all of my complaints on certain things that have happened so far in this series. But man, the outside of the abs and lightning series, the finals have just been disappointing, haven't they? Over a couple of years, last year was a disappointment. And even then the abs were up 3-1 in that series and probably should have wrapped that thing up in five. The games themselves were entertaining but it was pretty clear who the better team was in that series. And then you had the biggest joke of a final year before Tampa Montreal, that match of a loan is hilarious. And then Tampa Dallas, which was in the bubble which automatically removed some excitement. That was a cool case series. 3-1, Dallas forced it to six. Boston St. Louis was a good one. That one delivered. It was good but it wasn't every game like a blowout, like there wasn't really like a cool game. In retrospect, the series was entertaining. Every game wasn't entertaining. Where game seven was pretty much a four nothing shut out. They got like a minute left and every game outside of like two or three was a total blowout. Those two games were exciting. And like the caps in Vegas series, game by game, it was pretty exciting. I enjoyed it a lot. Yeah, you loved that series. I enjoyed it a lot but it was a five game series. It felt like seven to me but it was only a five game series. The Pittsburgh series were like the same thing. Like what was the best final of recent memory? Chicago Boston? Yeah, you'd have to say that. Over time's memorable ending went at least six games. Went at least six. Like a very memorable ending in game six. Chicago scores two goals in the last minute to win it. I mean, both the LA series were kind of boring with them against the Devils and them against the Rangers. It has been kind of a snore once you get to the Stanley Cup final. Which is weird right because these are the two best supposedly going out each other and it just seems like more times than not these things get decided and feels like pretty early. Maybe we're just setting it up for an all time jinxer again. This is just what we do on the show where somehow this series turns into a classic for the next five games as it goes seven. I just like the Oilers have to do so much to get one goal. Again, the Panthers seem to be scoring with ease. And I don't think Skinner's played that bad in either of these games. Like the game winning goal from Rodriguez in the game last night. Evan Bouchard just gave the pot to Evan Rodriguez. Like that was an egregious turnover by Evan Bouchard. Like the Oilers have to do so much right. They have to play four perfect games to beat the Panthers and I just don't know if they have that in them. I think they can get two. I think they can get two, but I just don't know if they have four. Even then the amount of things that have to go right for them where their power play has to start scoring again McDavid has to find a way to break through from multiple points their depth has to come through and Skinner has to play well at the same time. And their defense needs to play better because now, for better or worse, Darnell nurses is nursing an injury for lack of a better term. And they finally, they finally took Cody CC out and put De Harnay in his place. But the amount of things that have to go right for the Oilers to win four out of five. They've already spotted the Panthers two games even coming into the series being the Panthers four times seemed like a monumental task. I'm just, I'm hoping for a balance between a good series and the Oilers not winning. If that makes sense. If the pick I could balance would be six. They go six. Cause if it's going to be a bad series, I just want them to wrap this thing up. Just wrap this thing up. When the cup in Edmonton in a sweep, start a riot or two. Let's see some cars getting flipped. And let's just pack this thing up because man, the discourse surrounding the series has been a lot more intense than the actual games. Yeah, that's what I was about to say. Like, I didn't get to watch a ton of the game last night. But like, just scrolling on Twitter, you would have thought like murder was committed on the ice like three times. You would have thought they brought guns and knives. Like my god. And it was on both sides. Right sides. And I just, it's definitely a coincidence that the Oilers are involved in a Stanley Cup final. And all the discourse has just reverted to caveman talk. But it's the Panthers aren't even filling the building. They're cheating. Have you seen the goalie mask discourse where Bobrovsky is cheating by throwing his mask off after he gets hit with a puck? In what way is that cheating? Where it's like he gets hit in the face with a shot. The strap comes loose because that's how the masks are designed and it falls off. And I have seen, like sometimes I complain about things. It's just like one person with a tweet. But this has been like at least 10 different people I've seen talking. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. If I remember that play correctly, didn't the puck go right to the Panthers? It's not like the Oilers had an immediate scoring chance because as we learned in our Cup final, if it's immediate scoring chance, the ref does not blow the whistle. Yeah. So that whole point is just minute. But that doesn't matter. The Panthers are cheating, man. They're cheating. They're a bunch of dirty cheaters and also their fans are bad because at the start of the second period, they're stuck in the bathroom and beer line and not back in their seats yet. And people taking videos of their TVs being like, see, this is why I'm calling out Dave Portnoy in particular for his dumb ass tweet being like, this is why Edmonton deserves the cup. You wouldn't see this in Edmonton. What people waiting in line? You never been to a hockey game at the start of a period where half of the arena is standing at the top of the stairs waiting for security to let them down. Do you not know the context of why Portnoy tweeted that? Because I'm not going to defend Dave Portnoy. He has a million dollars on the Oilers when the Seattle Cup. I mean, that does not surprise me whatsoever. I mean, I think I'd be a little bit like, OK, like, come on, like, this is like, you're looking for anything to go in your way in that series because if you have a million dollars on the line, I think I would be a little bit like that too. But I love the Florida discourse of people being like, Florida's not a hockey state. And it's like, actually, I find it very endearing. Everyone has hated the Florida Panthers over the last two months. Honestly, they've like risen to my top five. Oh, yeah. I fucking because they saw all the right people. I think it was 2020. They were expected to be bad. Well, it was the year was it was the year after the bubble. So 2021 season. Yeah, it was. They were supposed to be bad. And I won so much money on gambling on them because they were always a dog and they started off the season really well. So I've always liked the Florida Panthers. I get were in like the small category of people who I get it. But I get why people don't like this team. I'm not on some moral high ground here. I have a very good reason for liking this Panthers team and it's simply their path. They've beaten Tampa, not a big fan of them. The Bruins don't like them very much the Rangers. They're up there. Yeah, I paid them. But right now they're up to on the Oilers. That's like four of my top five least favorite right there. Oh, yeah. I'm going to finish this thing off. I'm on the I'm on the Panthers train. Oh, yeah. I'll be sobering the Panthers. It is. It's just I remember because remember when the ads were in the final. Those games started at 6 p.m. local time. And if you know anything about Denver, traffic's pretty shitty around that time of the day. We had to leave for the games at what? Like like almost like 430 to get there for Puck drop. Yeah. And like it got close a couple of times. It got really close. Like that's just that's traffic. That's living in. And also Miami. And it's not even in Miami. It's in Sunrise, which if you live in Miami, you got to go all the way through Miami in order to get there. Not that I'm making excuses, but also the building was full at Puck drop. Like, why are we even talking about this? Yeah, like it's just one of those things that always cracks me up because, excuse me, I had to cough. 6 p.m. local for Colorado fans. That's a really hard start time and on a Wednesday. Like that is a really hard start time to get to. And I just, I get it. We're in the minute minority of people who actually like the Panthers. Because you watch them and you're like, yeah, these guys are kind of assholes. Like they are kind of like they play on the line of dirty and all that stuff. Is it the line? No, I mean, they're over it. Like I said, this our bias showing. It's it is clearly like they are pushing the line and sometimes going over the line. Like Sam Bennett. If he played for the Oilers, I think I hate his guts. Yeah, I'm very glad he is very far away from my. I'm very glad we only play him twice and he doesn't seem to have much of a problem with us. No, like I remember when the apps played him in Calgary back in what year was that 2018. 19 19. It was a nuisance then. But I don't know. I guess my final thoughts is I don't want to overreact to two games. The Panthers did what they were supposed to do on home. I stay one both. I just want Edmonton to make this at least have the games be competitive because like last night. Sure, the score was for one. It felt like it was eight one. Yeah, like it was just. Every time the Panthers have a lead, it just feels insurmountable. Right. Even if the Oilers had a lead, it just doesn't feel very secure. There's just so much more for the Panthers in this series than there is for the Oilers. And I think this matchup more than anything illustrates the difference between playing on the edge and being a crybaby where the Panthers play on the edge and cross the line into dirty. I will not deny that. The Oilers are crybabies. And when they're down in a game and trying to send a message, they just start scrums, throw elbows and start just trying to start shit when the games. Essentially over after getting shoved around for 50 minutes, essentially, at that point, like big difference between actually being tough and pretending to be tough when the game is essentially over at that point. And the amount of whining and crying about the they missed this penalty. And even when it's explained, it's like, well, no, I still don't like it. So, I don't know, dude, it was kind of weird. Like, I, like, Chris Knoblock seems like a very calm guy watching his reaction to that missed away a game call. I was like, who the fuck is this guy? Like, I thought you were more like your bed. It's an Oilers thing, man. It's what they do. They love to complain and they love to whine about everything. Yeah. And I also just love the fact that we were talking about the cons might the beginning of the series and it was like, well, Barcoff's going to win it if the floor Panthers win it. The current odds are now minus 250. Yeah, where it's like, yeah, some's got to have some's going to have to happen for Barcoff to not win this thing at the Panthers win the cup. But Brodsky won goal in two games and now Barcoff is hurt. So, that's something. What do you think? Like, if Brodsky wins this cup, wins the con smite. Is he like a surefire Hall Famer? Oh, yeah. Oh, 100%. It's the only thing he's missing. He's one multiple best knows he's been the best goalie in the league multiple years. If he wins a con smite on top of a Stanley Cup, it's not a question as to whether or not Sergey Bobrovsky is making the Hall of Fame. It's kind of amazing when you think about how that contract started. Like, it was for a solid three year span, the worst contract in the NHL. And it was like in an arguable fact. Yeah. And it scared a lot of teams from giving big money to goalies. It ruined the goalie market and it still has because I don't know if we'll ever see a $10 million goalie. The next one you can hope for is just Durkin. Oh, I think she's Durkin's gonna get more than 10. But if he doesn't get 10, nobody is. No one else's. Nobody is ever getting 10 again. The fact that the Panther, even with the Brodsky being as good as he'd been being a Vesna finalist this year, the fact that the Panthers are this with a $10 million goalie. The fact that Bill Zito didn't win GM of the year. Again, I just don't understand that award. I get built a very good team in Dallas. I just don't know why this award needs to exist at all. It's another thing that could give into the conference final loser every year. Well, Joe Sactic won it. Sactic won it. And when he won. Okay. You did a good job with that team, I would say. Levarello lost two years in the conference final and won it back to back years. I don't even know who won it last year. Was it? Was it Jim? No, again. It's just such an insignificant award. Who cares who wins GM? I think I'm the only person that pays attention to this thing. And I don't even know who won it last year. Right. Like it's interesting. I mean, I think Babrovsky, like he's a surefire all-famer at that point, which if you would have told me three years ago that Babrovsky was going to lead the Florida Panthers to a Stanley Cup, I would have told you you were fucking crazy. I thought that contract would have been bought now by now. Yeah. There was probably a world where it did get bought now because that was a very real option for a long time. There's like, how the hell are you supposed to win with this thing, weighing you down in a goalie who in that first year of his contract was a 900 for $10 million and 900 goalie. That's unfathomable. And then 906 the year after that. And then he was a bad spot to a 913. And then in that was, oh, yeah, I guess the Panthers did make the playoffs in the bubble technically. They played the Islanders in the qualifier. I forgot about that. But the next year when they did like make the playoffs officially, he was an 841 in that he was bad. And we were like, how the hell are you supposed to win with this thing? 913 the next year. And then even the year they went to the final last year, it was a 901 regular season. Got replaced by Dolores. No, no, no, Lion, Lion, Lion, Lion, stolen as their guy now. Right. Yeah. So it was Alex Lyon last year who got them to the playoffs. And then Bob Robski finally was the goalie they paid for 915 this year, 916 in the playoffs. 916 is pretty impressive. Remember the first round? He was like an 888. Yeah, he was a 908 coming into this. So he's bumped that up to a 916 already. Yeah, that's crazy, man. It's just it's unfair the Panthers get good goal tending to. Like, it's just it's not fair at this point. It's unfair that they're getting goals from Niko Mikola. Like, are you? Come on. This is what he was on the Rangers last year. I bet you the Rangers fans were like, where was this last year? There's a guy they got at the deadline and like was it I think was a throw in in the Tarasenko trade. Yeah. And so now Tarasenko and Mikola are in Florida. And I think Mikola, I saw this had three goals in the regular season. Two of them were in the same game against the Oilers. Yeah. And here he is with almost scoring on Bob Robski in the second period with that on the ice shot that almost fooled him, then goes down the other way and changes the game by tying it. Right. Like most most interesting shift in Stanley Cup Final history. Hockey, baby. Hockey. But I don't know, man. I really hope when we come on and record next that we're not talking about the Panthers being up like 3-0 or come forbid the series is over. Well, because game three is not until Thursday. Yeah. So, I mean, we'll have to see. But I mean, I do think the Oilers are going to win game three. I do think they're going to win game three. I mean, the first Stanley Cup Final game in Edmonton since 2006. Yep. Like it's going to be loud in there. The crowd's going to be energized. I do think the others win game three, but I think the Panthers win game four and they close out with five. Hey, it's just sweeping a team is hard. Yeah. The Panthers have already won four games against the Oilers this year. Being a team five times in a row is very difficult to do, but those games were November and December when Oilers were still kind of struggling from what I remember. Those games were three to five in Florida for Florida and then they won the next one five to one in Edmonton. So not putting stock in regular season games, but the Panthers, they just maybe they just don't match up very well against this team. Yeah. I mean, they don't match up with anyone very well. Like what team do you think could have beaten Florida? Not us. I'll get that out of the way. Not us in the West. I think Dallas could have made it interesting, but Dallas was a walking skeleton by the time they got to Edmonton. And God forbid, if they beat Edmonton, what is this team looking like after three straight grueling series going up against this Florida buzzsaw? I don't think they go to Florida for after that. I think because they were they were ahead of Florida. So the series was started in Dallas. I don't think they go to Florida for games three and four. I think there's like, yeah, we're done. We just just tap out. We tap out. We got nothing left here. Yeah, like that would have been it. I mean, not the abs. Obviously. I mean, Edmonton still to be determined, but it's looking like they aren't going to be able to beat them. I think out of the West Edmonton is the only team that had a chance. Yep. The Rangers couldn't do it. The hurricanes wouldn't have been able to do it. Tampa couldn't do it. No other team should even be in this conversation. Toronto doing it. This is just a really good team that this is the best team in hockey and they're probably going to win the Stanley Cup. Yeah, they're two wins away from winning the Stanley Cup. They have to win one to five or two or five over the next little while to win a Stanley Cup for the first time in history. The first time they got to lead the Stanley Cup final in history. That's pretty crazy. That is pretty crazy to think about, but we'll talk more about that Cup final game in our next episode, which will have game three in the books and then game four will probably preview. But let's switch to, well, actually, I wanted to do one more thing on that. What they did to start Game 1, bringing the Stanley Cup out before the game, that was pretty cool. I'm glad you brought that up because some people didn't like that for some reason. I thought that was awesome. Yeah, I thought that was cool. From a presentation standpoint, a broadcast standpoint, I don't know why we took so long to start doing that. I think that's just a great production decision. It's just a good way to get everyone amped up before the start of the series. Yeah, kind of ruled. I was like, this is sweet. Now I'm ready to go. This gets the juices flowing. Yeah, and then the way Florida plays is boring and exciting at the same time. That's a great way to put it. It's just like when they do stuff is exciting, but like 90% of the game, they just drag down into the mud, but you also can't look away because something could happen at any moment with them. I'm interested to see how this series goes in Edmonton. I will say this. I don't think we've scratched the surface of this series. No, there is a volcano brewing where the Department of Player Safety has dug their grave and the Oilers took advantage of that in some ways in Game 2. Panthers took their licks as well. We haven't even gotten to Edmonton yet, where I think shit is going to be ramped up to 11, even if the Panthers win the next two games. I don't think we've even scratched the surface of online discourse that's coming in this series. Oh, yeah. I mean, it's going to get. I don't envy the refs for games three or four. Nope, you've made your bet. We've set the standard. We've set the standard for the Department of Player Safety. Dry sale didn't even get a fine. You got to be I love that with the Panthers like none of them talked about. You know that they're there. Something's going to happen. We're in also like we just pretend that that's not on purpose. Brad Marsh and said that the quiet part out loud after he got punched in the face by Sam Bennett. He's like, yeah, we're all trying to take guys out. Basically, you get advantage when you take out their best players. He said, he said the quiet part out loud. He said, he said the thing. Ding, ding, ding. We can all go home. And again, I just don't buy the Leondry settle coincidentally took out Alex Barkov with an elbow to the head. Because again, I've said this before, I fully believe this should not be up to people to decide how suspensions work. That one is elbow, head, feet off the ground, you're out. I almost just said, I thought dry sell got to spend the last year, but no, he took that high stick from a trangelo and a trangelo got suspended. Funny how dry style just always in the middle of the stuff. Yeah, it's kind of a shithead. I did not like him during the Western Conference for all the apps played a man. I still don't like him. So he's just kind of a very unlikable player. Just a real pissy guy in the words of a great Edmonton report, just a real pissy individual. And I don't know, the Evan Bouchard had a rough night too, where he has that turnover and just didn't play that well entirely and then pretty much got choked out by Aaron Eckblatt. That was funny. I saw a lot of people making a big hub about that. As someone who like has done jujitsu for a little while done like actual martial arts and been put in a stranglehold, there was no danger to Evan Bouchard of being choked out there. I've been in a real like chokehold being strangled. There was no danger of Evan Bouchard being choked unconscious on the ice. That thing was not even close to being wrapped around any sort of carotid artery. Like I've, I felt that. And I, you know the hand position that's necessary. That thing was resting like around his collarbone. It was just a very funny way. And also very funny that he tapped out. Yeah, which is like that. Okay, did you need that? That seemed a little instinctual. Yeah, seem a little instinctual. And another guy, the others need to step up if they're going to have a chance. What does it mean, but what a weird looking guy. He wigs me out. I just think he looks like a normal dude. And he's just really good at hockey. Like if you saw Evan Bouchard in the street, you'd be like, Oh, that guy works on Wall Street. Probably. I don't know. Chuck made fun of the eyes and I don't know. I think I'm with him on that. I don't know. It just wigs me out. Our Florida Panther bias is showing a little here. I have, I have no problem putting my anti-epidin bias out there. I don't care. I don't either. I don't either. Hey everybody. Hope you've been enjoying this episode so far. Let's move on to the other big news. And this one was more like, it didn't seem like it should be that big of a deal. But for fans, it is a huge deal. Your Washington capitals are buying the very popular website cap friendly. And once they buy it, as of July 1st, that website will no longer exist. Yep. And somehow this conversation turned into something that I think doesn't even involve the capitals at all. And brings up, I think, much more interesting conversation as a whole. And I do want to acknowledge we have two mailbag questions today. And they're both this. So I want to at least read those out first. Before we get to this, our first one is coming from Sky saying, so now that cap friendly is nearing its last dance. How do you feel about the whole situation and what site are we all going to migrate to now? And then our last question coming from an anonymous person saying thoughts on the cat friendly purchase as a caps fan. And also, why don't teams have that kind of data and infrastructure set up for themselves. Ding, ding, ding. There's the million dollar question. We can all go home now. But yeah, I want to at least acknowledge those questions. We're going to talk about all of that in this conversation. Regardless, we'll start with the capitals buying cat friendly itself because that's, that's the headline. Well, the capitals, everyone's hating on them. They're, they're hating on them big time. And I'm biased in the decision. I cannot pretend otherwise. I have a Stanley Cup banner on an opposite wall with me right now. But this is just a really smart business decision from the capitals to do. And I'm shocked it took this long. I have used cap friendly. I don't think I've ever had it closed in the last seven years. I think it's just always been open somewhere on my laptop. And I have in the back of my mind always operated under the assumption that this thing was not going to be here forever. I thought one day a team was just going to snap out of it and buy it so that no other team could use it. And that's what happened here. Because every time you watch a behind the scenes video of management doing their stuff or draft stuff or just even reporting at the draft itself, they have cat friendly open, a free public to use site. So if a team just bought it, you're blinding probably at least half of the league when it comes to stuff like this, because now we're already seeing reports of team scrambling, trying to figure out what to do. Because apparently news to some people, news to me, some teams just don't have internal cap management. They just use cap friendly, which is hilarious. It rules. Maybe we aren't as far off from these guys as we think. That's kind of been my thought process the last couple of days, like, wow, maybe there's not like such a huge gap between management and the common fan as we generally thought. And I think the capitals just happens to be the team to do this. But why wouldn't you? You're blinding half of your competition and not to mention the few people that run cap friendly are getting full time gigs in the capital's organization. And those people probably know more about the salary cap, the contract states, the league, probably the most general managers in the sport. I'd say they know more than 99% of people in the NHL. Yeah. So again, you can be mad at the caps all you want. Your team should have done that. Because, dude, if the ads would have done this, we would have been like, let's fucking go. Like, like, only so that ads fans can use it, that rule. Yeah, like typical sack. It does it again. Run off this business. Shout out, Stan Cronkey. Yeah. And also, I think it has opened the door for a more interesting conversation as to why is cap friendly necessary in the first place. Hang on, before you do that, who's the, like, on all of the graphics I've seen, that's not the owner of the capitals. Who is that? The bald guy. A bald guy? Yeah, like all these graphics I saw about the cap friendly being sold. It was like this white bald guy. And if I remember Ted Leonice, it still has hair and he's just very old. Are you talking about Brian McClellan? Who is, is that the GM? Yeah, Brian McClellan is hair, though. I'm going to look for it. You keep talking. I'll show you. Okay. But yeah, anyway, what was I even getting to with that? Yeah. We're the fact that cap friendly is even necessary to begin with, because now we're starting to hear reports that the relationship between cap friendly and the NHL was, quote, icy, which was talked about by Eliot Friedman, because here's a direct quote from 32 of my thoughts, saying that the NHL believes they should not be in the business of publishing this stuff. As a matter of fact, I have been told several times that the relationship between the NHL and cap friendly was quite icy. It's not only the league that feels that way. I've heard some teams are adamant about that too. They don't feel that NHL.com should be in the business of publishing this kind of stuff. How do we exist in a hard salary cap league and the league is pushing for not having salary cap information given to the public? This is the kind of thing where we still exist in the 80s in the minds of a lot of these people, and I'll point to one right off the top of the bat. If this stuff stopped being mandated, the New York Islanders and Lulee Morello would stop reporting all salary cap stuff immediately, because the NHL doesn't like being criticized. Managers don't like being criticized, and they hate the fact that common fans have access to this kind of information, which gives them ammo to criticize their moves because they hate being told that they're wrong, because we exist in a league where a bunch of people at the top have a bunch of cronies that just tell them everything they do is brilliant, and they hate that fans know stuff about anything. This is a league that actively hates their own fans. We've seen it multiple times over the last several years that the NHL just does not like their fans all that much. I just sent it to you, who the guy is. The point is, is I just don't get why the NHL would think of it. That is Brian McClellan. Okay. All right. All right. I was like, who is this dude? He has hair. He's not bald. As a bald man, there's hair. He's okay. All right. Well, that's like, that's the GM. Yes, as the general manager of the Washington Capitol is Brian McClellan. Okay. All right. That makes me feel a lot better because if I remember, I tell the owners, it's like a really creepy-looking mob guy. Yeah, I guess so when you put it. Yeah. Guy. Guy. Guy. He's just no good. But the thing with Cap Friendly is we use it. It's really fun to do because we get to be fake GMs. And you get to mess around with lineups. You get to do all this fun stuff of how your team can get better. You, if you're the NHL, embrace it. This is fun. Like it makes your fans smarter. Like it makes your fans more in tune with why these moves happen. And it comes across as like, I don't know the best way to put this. I'm trying to think of it in analogy for like, like, I don't know. It just comes across as like the NHL and their GMs are like disappointed that the fans think that they know what their job is. And that's not what they're like, their jobs a lot harder than just doing something on Cap Friendly. Yeah, they are upset that the common fan has this knowledge that they can use to to criticize them for it. Yeah. This is a bunch of people that just always think they're the smartest people in the room and they don't want any room for criticism out there. Like the NHL has always, always been like this. They've, they've never wanted to reveal these kinds of things. And even though you can go back to like the lockouts and stuff like that. And even like the concussion stuff and the CTE stuff, they are always deniers of putting stuff out for public knowledge. They hate this kind of thing. And Cap Friendly is such an easy site. It's such an easy way to just have an understanding of the salary cap and the kind of moves that teams can make. I wouldn't be surprised if the LTI R stuff has them pissed and not at the rule, but that people know what they're talking about with it because they hate being criticized. And it's just the kind of thing the NHL does not like their fans. They want, they want people to just watch the games and shut the fuck up. Stop telling us we're wrong. Stop telling us what we can do better. We're smarter than you. We don't like you. You're annoying. You get in the way of us doing what we want. Could you imagine like if the NHL created their own cap friendly and then they charge like 9.99 a month for people to use it. Imagine the money that they could get for that. Like this stuff should just be public information is overall point. Cap friendly should be redundant. The fact that cap friendly is used by half of the management teams in the NHL is crazy. That is insane that you do not have a system for teams to use to keep track of salary cap space in the league where they're using a free publicly funded site. Where they are running advertisements that to me is just outright insane. And not to mention the fact that half of the league just doesn't have their own. This is not really funny. That is funny. That is really crazy. And that alone makes whatever the capital is paid for a hundred percent worth it. Because now just stay alone have this. You think the Buffalo Sabres have internal cap management? I like the Sabres so I'm going to say yes. Well I'm going to step out on a limb here and say the Buffalo Sabres do not have that shit. And I think some teams in the Metro have it but I think a lot of them don't. I think Toronto is the only one I know for sure that does because of I think it was his name Brandon Pritham. Who was like yes like wrote the CBA. So like he knows a thing or two about how the salary cap works and I think Kyle Dubas. I don't think he brought Pritham to Pittsburgh but I think he started building like a capologist people. But the thing is is if the even if the Capitals wanted to leave that online Friedman said the NHL would never allow that. It's classic in the job like it's just hilarious to me. So the entire website is going to be shut down. So pretty much July 5th is the rumored shutdown date. And yeah I mean that would just pretty much be it for it after that. And again Friedman also said that the NHL frowns on the existence of sites like this they consider it proprietary information. So the Capitals couldn't keep it open even if they wanted to. The league would say you cannot be partnered this and have it be public and also you couldn't make any money from it on any ad which is a weird stipulation. But this whole thing is taken for me to focus off of the Capitals buying it and 100% put the focus on the fact that the NHL does not like Cap Friendly. Which the easiest move of all time you sponsor it. Before the Capitals ever buy you sponsor this thing six years ago and this is now the go to site for everything. Because we had this conversation a little while ago just being like yeah but it's going to get replaced but PDA is fine. I don't know it has is agent information which I generally used it for in the past but Cap Friendly is UI their user interface is just I probably could teach like a college course on Cap Friendly and how to use it without familiar I am with it. And if you're the NHL instead of fighting things like this instead of actively fighting your own fans you could just embrace it. You could just embrace making the game a little more accessible to fans where this is a hard cap league where I'd say at least 20 teams in any given season are completely pressed up against the salary cap. And a lot of them are using LTIR to squeeze every last dime they can out of their teams. Why do we not deserve that information. Why do we not deserve how much cap space teams have how much money guys make year over year. It's the kind of thing was like okay you're in charge but like what right do you have to deny that information to your fans. It's the kind of thing where it's just the NHL hates everything they can't get out of their own way. And the crux of the matter is they don't want to get better. You don't want constructive criticism they don't want anything. They hate when people have opinions on how they should run their league. They hate it. Have you read the responses on their last week. Oh yeah. It's pretty funny some of these are like this is just. One of them was please DM future information to caps PR. Send your data to the cloud sellout. For crazy to call them sellouts like this is for for cat friendly. This is not a charity. This is not like a public service website this is a business that makes money and they're being offered full time management jobs and within HL team. You would be probably if you think about it a lot less work than what they've been doing with cat friendly. Yeah, probably significantly less work than they were doing for a lot more money. Like there's even if it is a they're just doing the same thing they usually do except now you're probably getting paid probably close to a million dollars a year. And also the buying the domain outright as well. I'm just going to say it if the abs want to buy our podcast and hire us on. I'm doing it. Yeah, I'm not giving them the chance to say no. Yeah, I'm not giving you a chance like that's the same like respect to those cat friendly guys who just probably started a fun website as just like a side hustle and it just really took off because it rules. And now they're they get there. Why am I blanking on it there? URL bought. So that's a pretty big chunk of change and they're also getting full time jobs with probably great benefits. I think one of the guys worked for the sharks in the Blackhawks in the past as well. So he like has experience with the NHL at very least so it's not either just hiring guys just off the couch. And yeah, the caps are just making a very, very smart business decision and blinding half of the league less than a month before free agency. And the draft. Yeah, it's pretty smart. It's pretty smart by them. But it's just it sucks that it's going to go away. It is in the off season of the great deadline. Like just having some fun and just figuring out if you buy out a contract, do all that stuff like it is going to be different. This information is not going away. Like stuff. Like to answer the first question from sky. Where are we going to now? Probably Puckpedia and someone else is going to create a cat friendly adjacent website and it might not be as good as cat friendly. We also have to acknowledge how good we had it with cat friendly. They had one subscription thing for premium stuff. I don't even know what's on there because I've never even looked at it. The fact that like build your team was free mock drafts were free depth charts were free pretty much all the important stuff on cat friendly was essentially free. And the rest was like interface stuff you had to pay for. And not to out myself as a bad cat friendly fan, but you could just use ad block and not have to deal with any of the ads on the site. Good strategy. So for that sense, we've had it really good and they had a great user interface and everything like that. So even if we do get another one, there's no guarantee that someone's not going to be like, yeah, here's the base bare bones website. Give me a month and I'll put roster builder on there for 10 bucks a month. You know, that's probably how it's going to end up going as well. And yeah, it sucks to lose it. And it's good for them that they're going to go get their bag and go work for an NHL team. So like the information is not going anywhere. We'll still go to Puckpedia and everything like that. But I just, I don't know why that boiled my blood so much. All those reports that the NHL didn't like cat friendly as just a tool that I probably, like I said, have had a tab open on cat friendly. Pretty much every day for the last seven years, pretty much since I've discovered it. And I'm fucked. We're talking about this show in general. Once that happens, I'm in deep trouble. I'm going to be exposed. Well, if it's July 5th, we should be okay. We'll just get more free agency out of it. We'll get out of free agency and then I've got a summer to crash course Puckpedia because I use cat friendly like a full on crutch. Not even a crutch. That shit is a wheelchair for me. I cannot go anywhere without cat friendly. That is where whenever I'm stalling and trying to find something, like you guys obviously can't see me because this is audio. But whenever I'm talking or Christian's talking, I'm like frantically scrolling through cat friendly trying to find what I'm looking for. If I can't do that anymore, the quality of this show is going way down. But there's going to be a lot of times when you're going to have to give me a second, you're going to hear me like clacking on my keyboard and whatever word. Cat friendly makes me sound a lot smarter than I actually am. I think it's made a lot of hockey fans sound smarter than they are. It's almost like it's a good website. And there's a reason why I got bought. It sucks, but it's just going to be like, how does that work? That page has 200,000 followers. Does that just disappear? That means it's worth it probably for the paycheck. Everything's got a price. Worth it at that point. But I don't know, man. Like you said, there will be another website that comes along. Do I think it'll be as great as cat friendly? No, I do think they're going to charge people more because people only care about money. And you're going to have to pay for a subscription to get the best service you can. Whereas cat friendly was just awesome because 99% of it was free. Yep. Where the stuff you had to pay for, I never even looked at the premium page. Add free. Add summaries, annual outlook, salary, expense, trackers. Like stuff that you don't need. But like if you're a freak like that, you can pay for it. I mean, I'm sure the NHL teams did it. Yeah. Like for $100 a year, that's not that bad. Yeah. I mean, for an NHL team, that's not that, that is kind of funny. Like imagine if like the one of these NHL teams just renewed their subscription and they find out that these get bought and it's like, damn it. Like it's lost a hundred bucks. Yeah. And again, the reports that teams are scrambling. And that's, that was the word that was being used is so funny. It's great. Honestly, I don't think Puckpedia is going to last either because now you're going to see another team be like, we don't have anything. Go throw a million dollars at Puckpedia and go bring those people on board because we don't have internal cat management in place. So there might be a bidding war for a lot of these sites out here for a little while. So we should make one. I don't know how to do this. I made the Never Knowsplease website, granted GoDaddy did like 99% of it, but I uploaded the pictures. Man, I have no talent. If you're a website builder, holler at us and we'll add us so we can use you to make money. Correct. Don't build it yourself. Contact me first. Contact us first and we'll be the middleman. I'll tell you what I want. You do all the hard work and I'll take 75% of the profit. Yeah. And it's also like one of the biggest teams are scrambling higher coder to make a website that does the same thing. How did you not have this? You really have millions of dollars at your discretion. Just do that. Like there are really good programmers who can probably build the website the exact same. Also, it's really funny to think about like, Oh, we're talking about like, how is this team going to get out of a salary crap crunch? Well, surely they have people that our entire job is to figure out how to get out of these things. No, they were just looking at cat friendly and run an armchair GM to be like, Oh, would this work? They're doing the same rules. They're kind of rule. They're kind of rule. Honestly, first of all. It's just so funny to me. And it's just. Cat friendly was such a slam dunk for the NFL. So, and it was really only a slam dunk because it had nothing to do with the NHL. It was its own independent website because of the NHL ran it. It would be shipped. They can't even run their own website. Yes. Yeah. Oh, yeah, it's hit the nail right on that there. So, RIP, cat friendly will miss you forever. Something else will come along. Yeah. And then it will get bought. Yeah. And we'll repeat this whole cycle. And then we'll repeat this whole thing, go back and forth and we'll have to do what they did in the 80s and check the newspaper to see who's making what in this league now. That would be hilarious if that's what they ended up doing. Yeah. You had to go buy a newspaper, which I haven't done. It would be the most NHL thing. Yes. I have not bought a newspaper. I don't think once in my entire life. I have never once needed a newspaper. There is something like I do love going over to my grandparents and they'll just have the crossword there and you do the crossword in the newspaper. That kind of rules a little bit. That's fun. But that's just because I'm getting old. So I think that kind of rules. You're almost 30. I know, man. Fucking sucks. But that's not about cat friendly. Other NHL news. They announced the actual start times that the, what are they calling it? The international four or the four's tournament of the four nations battling. Is it called four nations? Honestly, I completely forgot what is the frozen for. No, that's the, that's the college. Yeah. I totally, honestly, I completely forgot what those things call it. I think it's like the four nations is what it's called for the four nations showdown or whatever it was. Yeah, like the worst name ever. We actually got start times for that. I believe it's going to happen during like what would be the all star break. Yeah. No all star game next year, right? Yes. Yeah. So it's the four nations face off is what it is officially called going from February 12th to February 20th. It's only eight days, which is a little surprising, but we've got Canada versus Sweden, USA versus Finland, Finland versus Sweden, USA versus Canada, Canada versus Finland, Sweden versus the USA, and then you have the championship game right after that. So the first time we've had any sort of significance best on best international play since the 2016 World Cup. That feels like so long ago. It was that long ago. It was. It was that long ago. Yeah. I think it's sweet, dude. I'm looking forward to it. Like it's going to be. It's going to be very weird because the apps don't have a single American player. So we're going to have to cheer against the apps and that's going to be weird. But going to be weird to say. Hill, Macara, Nathan McKinnon, become public enemy number one. Maybe like five public five. Yeah. I mean, Canada forward wise, no one can compete with them, but where the US is going to have a distinct advantage. The US is going to have the three best goalies of anyone in the world because Russia's not in it. Yeah, Russia's not there and Canada would genuinely be starting Jordan Bennington. I think it will be Jordan Bennington, which as an American, two thumbs up. Yeah. It could be any one of those three and they'll just be like, yep, we'll go from there. I think the USA is better equipped to beat Canada than they've been in a very long time. That team is going to be really good. You got hopefully, Jack, you stay healthy. Quinn Hughes, you have the Chuck brothers, like Cartover, Hagee is for Hagee Canadian. I think he's Canadian. Yeah. We're talking about Matthews and Hughes, like a healthy Taged Thompson, maybe Eichl and Clayton Keller, Jason Robertson, the both could chucks. I mean, potentially Patrick Kane, if they want to go crazy. Just come back to play for Team USA. Like you got one more thing left. Just come back and win the, what do you win in this? You don't win a medal? You win a trophy. Really high five from Gary himself. Yeah. But we've talked about like Fox and Maccaboy and Quinn Hughes, as you were saying, and Slavin. Like it's a good team USA team and I'm just going to ignore Team Canada because that goes against Mike. That team is gross. The fact that you could roll three centers of McDavid, McKinnon and Grosby. And then oh wait, your fourth could be Connor, but Dard, that's pretty unfair. Yeah. Can you imagine the line? Because it will happen. It will be McKinnon and Crosby and McDavid on the line together. Yeah. That's, that's gross. That's just, that's great, really. That's just, I'm so excited to have to deal with this. We're, we're talking McDavid, McKinnon, Crosby, Marshaan, Badard, Pointe, Stone, Ryan Hart, Stancoast. Hyman, Marcel, Robert Thomas. They go to defense. Okay. Cal McCar, Noah Dobson, Bouchard, Tate. James. Drew Dowdy. And okay. Goldies, Aiden Hill, Skinner, and like Bennington. So that is the, they could give up five goals and they could still win the game. Nine to five. Yeah. You're rolling out a line that's either centered by McDavid, McKinnon, or Crosby every single time. Or, or, or, or fine. We'll put the Brayden Point line out. Good luck. Like it's, Canada's wealth is, is great. That's going to be fun. I, I think it's Team USA and Team Canada are the far, like two overwhelming favorites. Finland's going to be able to count them out. Don't count Finland out. Finland's got some dogs though. I mean, you got Barkoff, Ranton then who else might like, you know, to finish player. Rope Hens, ah-ho. Uh, I mean, Lackey might be there too. Lackey. I mean, like it's truly like the abs have no American players. I mean, no, no. Maybe I might walk that back a little bit. Looking at the rosters. It's Team USA, Team Canada. Because defenseman and high skin in. Okay. Good. Yokey Haru, Johnny Hockenpah, Ristalainen. Okay. I'm starting to see, well, you got Sorrows. Yeah. Okay. That's solid. Auntie Ronta. Okay. Luca Pekka-Luchinen. No. Guys. Pretty good. Hey. Hey. And then Sweden is going to be good. I just think USA and Canada are just better than both. Yeah. I mean, you're talking Patterson, Nieland, or Lindholm, Zabana, Jad. We'll see you like Leo Carlson. That could be an interesting one. Will Carlson, maybe if Landis Gogg's healthy? Yeah. Landis Gogg, they're not letting Landis Gogg do that shit. They're not. Oh, dude. Could you imagine though? Like, if that's when he comes, like, if he goes back to that, like, that is, I will be watching every Sweden game just praying that Landis Gogg doesn't get hurt. That is exactly the reason Gabe Landis Gogg will not be participating in this. I cannot even fucking imagine that that would ever happen. Yeah. And I mean, it's going to be a fear with every one of our players. It's like, hopefully they don't get hurt. But if that's the payoff, I have to get to watch the best on best play and international play. I'm going to take it. Yeah. Maybe you also still have, like, Eric Carlson and Hedman and Darlene. Like, they still got a pretty good defense. Four years ago, that team would have kicked ass. Yeah. But time's running out on them. I mean, you know, Berkey has a breakout again and can sneak his way back on to that team for my sake. I think he will. Like, who else does the Swedish forwards that I'm blanking on? I think we covered the big ones. Yeah. I mean, it could be solid. But I do hope it's just USA versus Canada. Like, honestly, they could just do USA versus Canada and do, like, a seven game series. And that's all I'd be happy. Yeah. They already excluded half of the countries. Yeah. The world is narrowed down to four countries and told, like, Germany and the Czech Republic to piss off. So I would like to see, like, Germany's gotten a lot better in hockey. The Czech Republic's always solid, but like, it's just like the World Championship. Yeah. Like, it would just be the thing that I want most is for this to be a success and for them to realize it's a success and let them go to the Olympics. The Olympics will be next year, 2026. This is the appetizer for the Olympics. Yeah. Because the Olympics are 2026. Am I right? Yes. Is it Tokyo? No. I think it's in. Is it in Tokyo? I don't know. Hang on. I'm looking this up. 2026 winter Olympics. I can't type. This is embarrassing. It is in. I don't know where this is. I don't know where this is. I'm going to assume Italy. Okay. It's in Italy. Okay. That sounds Italian. Sorry to our Italians listening. I don't know anything about it. Yeah. But I mean, even then, like you look at it, that schedule is not terrible. It's a 16 days for the Olympics. So if you take a two week break, let the guys go. I actually kind of like it. Such a fucking fit for the last decade. Having a 16 day break to go do the Olympics for every four years. Yeah. I mean, it's just, I hope it works and that we are like, it's successful. I think it will be successful because one, this is something the players have wanted. And I think they're going to take it seriously. I mean, the World Cup of hockey kicked ass like all those times. I remember watching that. That was great preseason hockey. My only complaint is I wish they were doing this in like September and not during the All-Star break. The Olympics do not revolve around the NHL. Oh, no, no, I'm saying the four nations thing. Yeah. I think it's a good replacement for the All-Star game because no one cares about the All-Star game. No one cares. But it is like for a lot of the guys, it is a nice break. Right. But you're also having a lot of countries taking a break. Sure. You know, we can have a break. Pass or knock. Dry cycle. Taking a break. If you're not from these four countries and you're not among a group of like 20 people, you get a break for at least a week. You get a break for at least a week and they're doing like the initial six players they get to take. I think all of the apps players are going to be taken in the initial six. Yeah. You're going to go. Because McKinnon's going to get taken by Canada. McCarle will get taken by Canada. Branson will get taken by Finland. Who else could go? I mean, Landeskargaby's healthy-ish. Taves. Taves may not be. Yeah. But we'll have to see, maybe use this on an if he plays well, gets a trip to Team Finland. Maybe. I mean, they've got their guys over the NHL experience. At least lackey. You might. Maybe. It's just fingers crossed. No one gets hurt and that the kicks ass, which I think it will because international hockey is the greatest hockey to watch. Yeah. It's better than the NHL. 100%. Like, it's just so funny because we get to root for the Americans to beat Canada. And can you imagine if we beat them? And it's just like, you ever want to come since '94? He's sufforable. He's not even just at the four nation. They do that shit in the Olympics. Oh, horrible. And suffer. I will be the biggest piece of shit for four years. Shut up, Canada. You have nothing on us. We took your best sport, gold medals, no nothing American sports certified. We rule. Taking over hockey. We already took over cricket this week with just America. America sweep. We're taking all your fucking sports. You. It's. It is just great. And I can't wait for the jerseys to come out. Hopefully the jerseys rule. It would be. You can't really give one though. Because I'm not going to buy a team Canada jersey. I'd buy a lucky one. Yeah, Finland. I think Finland's OK. People be like, yeah, it's Finland who really cares. Everyone loves Finland, right? Yeah. I think I can do a Finland one. Yeah, it's just I can't wait to watch it. And I think that's that's pretty much it for that topic. It's going to rule. The only other thing I had, it was it was really fun. And I think yesterday or today was the day. I think it was the day that I was going to be a team. I think it was the day that I was going to be a team. I think it was the day that I was going to be a team. I think it was the day that I was going to be a team. I think it was the day that I was going to be a team. I think it was the day that I was going to be a team. I think it was the day that I was going to be a team. I think it was the day that I was going to be a team. I think it was the day that I was going to be a team. I think it was the day that I was going to be a team. I think it was the day that I was going to be a team. I think it was the day that I was going to be a team. I think it was the day that I was going to be a team. I think it was the day that I was going to be a team. I don't know, man. We actually had some good hockey to talk about. The off seasons come up probably quickly because Panthers are going to beat the Oilers. I just had one last thing and it's not related to hockey at all. So do you have anything else before I go on that? Please enlighten us. Okay. So as many of you know, I started officiating sports over the summer. And let me just say, I'm a very competitive person. I don't like losing things. That's why I don't put myself in a lot of competition situations because I'm a weirdo and I get way too competitive over things. In the past two weeks, I've officiated volleyball, soccer, flag football, and pee-wee soccer. Oh, I'm basketball. The way that people take rec league sports so seriously, I just don't get what joy you get in play in that sport if you're just going to bitch and moan about the referees. And here's the thing, man. As a referee, I'm making 20 bucks an hour, dude. Like, I'm not a professional. I'm literally like, I came from my day job to come and do this. What did you expect? You expect me to be like a professional referee? Like, I'm going to miss some calls. Like, take a chill, it's a rec league soccer game. Like, what are we doing here, man? Just start fighting them. Oh, no, dude. It's the best. Like, I had one in soccer last night. I tweeted about it. This guy was literally just chirping in the entire game. He goes, you're the worst referee I've ever seen. I'm like, okay, cool. Like, you telling me this doesn't change the way I'm going to officiate this game. It's a rec league soccer game at 9 p.m. at night. They reflect on yourself. How did you get here? Yeah, and I'm just like, dude, chill. Like, you can't be just taking soccer this seriously. Like, it's not a, soccer has contact in it. Like, it is a little bit more contact to be able to get credit for. I'm not going to have you pushing over people in a rec league soccer game. Like, it's rec league soccer and it's co-ed. Like, chill the fuck out, dude. Like, I just don't get in like volleyball. Like, I was just like, a couple of times, like, the ball was close to being out. Like, the guy was like, no, that was, I was like, dude, who cares, man? Like, it's, it's rec league fucking volleyball. Like, I was just, it was absurd. And we did the flag football championships this past week, the seventh, eighth grade game. I honestly thought parents were going to fight each other over a flag football game. At seventh, they created a flag football game. And the trophy they got was, they got little trophies that said first place and second place got a medal. It was just crazy that parents were willing to fight each other over a rec league sports game. Like, what are we doing here? It's just crazy. Like, you're discovering all the fun parts of society these days. And I get it, man. I'm a very competitive person. I don't like losing. I mean, I don't put myself in situations where I lose a lot because I'm a weirdo. But I recognize about that about myself. I'm not going to put myself in those situations where I can get upset about something that is so stupid. Like, just go out and have fun. You're socializing. You're active. See, you're coming at this from a well adjusted adult perspective. And that's just not what you're dealing with here. You're dealing with people that didn't do that. Yeah. People that are so far adjusted, they might as well be backwards. Like, it's just like, I'm like, dude, tomorrow, when you go to your day job, are you going to really be talking about the fact that a ref screwed up your call in your rec league soccer game? Yes. Yes, they will. Dude, I mean, if anything, it's given me more of an appreciation for referees. Granted, I'm not going to give the NHL and like professional referees much of like, uh, like cushion because they get paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to do that. So they can be criticized. I mean, they $20 an hour to do this, dude. I was picturing, like, Kelly Sutherland, like going home and just having this exact same conversation and be like, oh, they wanted me to get this call, right? Who fucking cares, man? At least those guys have the benefit of sometimes a replay helping them. I mean, it's just like, I'm like, dude, I'm standing on the sideline here. Like, what do you want me to do? Like, it's crazy. It was craziness. Someone roll out the replay booth for me here. I'll take a look at it for you. Yeah, I'm just like, dude, chill out. And like, I love indoor soccer because it is a powerful feeling as a referee because I have the cards. So I could be like, I gave this one dude a yellow card and I like had to do it and like, call him over and call him. You got to hold it up like automatically. You got to rip it out of your pocket and hold it. Oh, that's not even that professional because they're laminated and you're supposed to write in an expo marker. The player you give it to, like, it's not even official. And it's just like, you know what, you know what kiddo? Time out. Yeah. Time out. It's so funny. They get a two minute penalty and then it goes play a man down for two minutes. Oh, that's sitting there and I'm like, this is like, we had one dude dislocate his finger last night in goal. And I was like, why? Why are you doing this where you're dislocating your fingers in the Wreck League soccer game? You just don't get it, man. You got to sacrifice in order to win. Oh, dude, it's just, it's been grinding my gears of just being like, take a chill pill, dude. Like, this is supposed to be fun. Like, after this, you're supposed to go drink beers and just have a good time. Like, it's Tuesday night, man. You know, you know, some of those guys getting their car as just a silent drive home, no music. They're just, they're musing a lot of them play with their wives. And it's like, you really want your car right home to just be, you pissed off about a Wreck League soccer game? I think you're covering a lot of unhealthy relationships here, Christian. Yeah, I'm just like, I've just realized it and it's a super fun job, the people I get to work with are great. But needless to say, it's just my big takeaway is just have fun, sports are meant to be fun, especially when we're playing them recreationally. Just have fun. Just go out there and have fun. Like, that's really it. And like, I've learned that when I have kids, I'm not going to get to be that type of parent who's just like freaking out about it. Like, I just, I want them to go out there and have fun. And if they're good at a sport, awesome. If not, they're just having fun. They're good at a sport, free ride to college, baby. Yeah. Like, that's really it, man. Like, just to go have fun. And that's just, if you are a person who's concerned going into the ref industry, it's fun. You get paid pretty well for it. But just be prepared for parents to just be the cyclist. I mean, a horrible ref. A horrible ref. Oh, dude, I fully admit, like, once that guy started chirping me, I was looking for calls on him. I was very biased. And also, what do you expect? Yeah. You start chirping at a rec league ref and you're expecting him to just be like, you know what? You're probably having a rough day. I'm going to give you a. No, you. I went out of my way. Everything on you. I went out and he got so mad. And I was just like, what are you getting at me? That is exactly what I would do. Yeah. I would just keep calling it. And I'm going to see, like, I want to see how far I can push this. Oh, dude. It's so funny. I'm not going to get a lot of money. I'm going to get a lot of money. I'm going to get a lot of money. I'm going to get a lot of money. I'm going to get a lot of money. I'm going to get a lot of money. I'm going to get a lot of money. I'm going to get a lot of money.
