This is Turley Talks. So Louisiana, as of tonight, is now the first state to require the ten commandments to be displayed in every public school classroom in the state. After the governor signed this controversial bill into law, and it gets pretty specific, saying the commandments have to be on a poster-sized display with font that's easy to read. The governor seems to be spoiling for the legal fight here, and it looks like he will get it with a bunch of civil liberties groups, including the ACLU, saying in just the last couple of hours, wait a second, this is not constitutional, and that they're planning to sue. Oh, no, she was scary, not the ACLU. The conservative justices on the Supreme Court just love the ACLU. Not, it's true, Kang. The state of Louisiana is just passed a sweeping new law, requiring all public schools in the state to display the ten commandments. We're going to see what's really behind this push to retraditionalize our classrooms and precisely why it's not only constitutional, but is indeed at the very heart of our constitutional republic. A poster-sized display of the Ten Commandments is now required by law to be displayed in every single public school classroom throughout the state of Louisiana. The bill was signed into law this morning by Governor Jeff Landry, who just months ago won a landslide victory campaigning on restoring traditionalist conservative values to governance after eight years of democratic rule and an otherwise deep red state. Here's Governor Landry at the signing ceremony this morning. This bill mandates the display of the Ten Commandments in every classroom in public, elementary, secondary, and post-education schools in the state of Louisiana. [applause] Because if you want to respect the rule of law, you got to start from the original law giver, which was Moses. Amen. All right. Guy gained Moses' receive here. That's right. He got his commandments from God. He wrote them all for us. All right. Nobody said there, if you want to respect the rule of law, you've got to start with the original law giver. That, my friends, is precisely the view of virtually every single one of our founding fathers, every single one. It's what's known as the golden triangle of freedom. Make sure you write that down, the golden triangle of freedom. In other words, in order to be truly free, we had to be able to cultivate civic virtue because our founding fathers considered civic virtue absolutely indispensable to self-governance. So if you want to be free, you have to cultivate civic virtue. But here's the kicker. In order to cultivate civic virtue, what do you need? You had to have faith. You had to deliberately and intentionally tap into a faith tradition, precisely because our faith traditions are the timeless sources of those very civic virtues. Did you catch that? In order to be free, you had to cultivate civic virtue, and in order to cultivate civic virtue, you had to have faith. You had to have a faith tradition like that of the Ten Commandments. But here's the key. In order to have true faith, you had to be free. In that coerced faith wasn't considered true faith. But in order to be free, you had to have virtue, which requires faith, which requires freedom, which requires virtue. That's the interlocking golden triangle freedom that every single one of our founding fathers advocated. True freedom requires virtue, which requires religious faith, which requires freedom. So this triangle freedom is an interconnected whole, where every part implies the others. And that, my friends, that golden triangle of freedom is the true bedrock of our constitutional republic. This is why, back in 1892, Supreme Court Justice David Brewer declared that the United States is, quote, "a Christian nation" made up of, quote, "a religious people." The problem, of course, is this smacks right in the face. It is an absolute affront to woke left-wing liberals. They're having a total meltdown today, as you saw. They're literally frothing at the mouth, claiming, of course, that what the state of Louisiana just did is a flagrant violation of the absolute explicit uncompromising, indefatigable constitutional principle, the sacred principle of the separation between church and state. Just one problem. There is no such principle. The phrase separation between church and state appears nowhere in the Constitution. There is no separationist notion between church and state anywhere in the Constitution. Instead, by contrast, our Founding Fathers viewed the relationship between church and state in terms of what's known as the accommodationist relationship. Where both church and state are seen as distinct and separate institutions that function together in a partnership to better society. As we saw earlier, church and state work together so that the public swear remains a space for the cultivation of what the Founding Fathers refer to as civic virtue. And as we saw with the Golden Triangle Freedom, a virtuous public square actually requires the participation of faith traditions. And the Ten Commandments have long been recognized as a commonly shared summary of what's called natural law, divine eternal moral law that is common in most faith traditions, most particularly the Abrahamic traditions of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Another way of looking at this is that our nation, the nation given to us by our Founding Fathers, was forged in the interplay between the three great classical cities of Jerusalem, Athens, and Rome. Jerusalem gives us our moral categories, Athens, our philosophical categories, and Rome, our legal categories. All Louisiana is doing here is affirming that original moral order foundational to our republic. So all this is to say is that secular left-wing organizations like the ACLU may indeed be defending something in their quest to overturn this law, but whatever it is, it is emphatically got nothing to do with our constitution. And as for Louisiana, there are attempts at revitalizing awareness that the moral order of our republic doesn't just promise to save their public schools. In many ways, Louisiana may have just saved our nation. Here's your opportunity to tell big tech tyrants where they can stick it.
