Here's your hosts, Griffin Youngs and Christian Boulay. Hello, everybody. Welcome back to another edition of the "Tell It Abs It Is" podcast on the hockey podcast network. I'm Griffin Young's joined by Christian Boulay. As always, I think we finally have a couple of things that we can talk about on this show. This is a pretty packed episode. The off-season has started already a couple moves coming through. Andrew Kogliano has announced his retirement and will be joined the Avalanche's front office. Trade rumors going around and I think there's still some hockey going on. I think this is something like a game seven for the Cup final, which is that the biggest game of our lifetime? I can't think of a bigger one off top of my head. We talked about it in the last episode where the Cup final hasn't really been super intriguing since probably Game 7 against Boston and St. Louis. Even then, that series wasn't super intriguing. This is probably one of the biggest hockey games we'll see from a neutral cheery perspective for a long time, for a very long time. At very least the modern era, can you think of one game that has more implications than this? I mean, bias, obviously Game 6 for the abs, but honestly, I don't think there is. You have a chance at history, something that hasn't been done since 1945, right? Yeah, 1945, because just for context here, the Panthers are blowing it. They had the 3-0 lead and now it is 3-3. We are going to a Game 7 in Florida and the Oilers are absolutely destroying them. They are crushing them in these last three games. And we are watching what very well could be the biggest collapse of our lives. What's a bigger collapse? Name 1, 28-3 for the Falcons? Yeah, I mean, because it's happened before in the NHL, but that was in like the first round of the playoffs, not in the Stanley Cup fucking final. The last time this happened in the final was 1945. Also, I hate this has happened before. Like, doesn't that just ruin it a little bit? Like, really? Yeah, but also back then, wasn't it still the original 6, so it's still like, I know it's part of history, but for me that if it happens before, like 1955, 1960, I don't really count that. Yeah, for me, it's 1967. Everything before that just is kind of a different era when it was all the same teams, but in terms of NHL history, it has happened once. The Toronto Maple Leafs came back from down 3-0 against the Red Wing. For the funny that it was the Maple Leafs. Yep, this is their one thing. They're one thing that they have is that they did this. And they're down 3-0 of the Red Wings in 42, I believe, 45. And came back to win that series. And now here we are 80 years later. And the Edmonton Oilers are a win away from a reverse sweep in the final. If you're the Florida Panthers and you do not win this game, how do you ever, ever recover from this? They go from being the potential of the next, like, a dynasty team to they'll probably never win a stay on the cup ever. They can't ever live this down. If they win next year after doing this, that's breaking even. Yep. That never washes away. Because I think, personally, this is the greatest collapse ever. I think it's better than the Yankees blowing a 3-0 in the Red Sox because that wasn't for a championship. And the Falcons blowing the lead to the Patriots is obviously huge, but that was one game. This has been over the course of like 11 days. The Panthers have not been able to recover at all in this series. At least for the Falcons, it was over in like 90 minutes that whole collapse. This has been going on for the course of almost two weeks at this point. Can you imagine being a Panthers fan right now? I mean, I couldn't. It's hell. Like, it would be hell. But the thing is, is you can look at it and be like, "Hey, the other's lost three straight." And then we lost three straight. We still have a chance to win it. I didn't feel that way right now, I confronted it. No, it doesn't feel that way. It feels like the other's already won the series, but there is still one game left to play. And the Panthers in game four, we talked about it. They got destroyed eight to one. They got their ass kicked in that game. Game five, I thought they were better. Conor McDavid just went off in that game. And then game six last night, if Sasha Barcoff didn't do anything, no one on the Panthers was doing anything. Sasha Barcoff was the only one who seemed like he was out there trying. It took over 30 minutes for a forward to have an official recorded shot on goal. There was the goal that got overturned for Barcoff that would have made it two to one or not going to spend a ton of time on this. I've said my piece on Offside in the past, but if you have to go Adam by Adam's, a brooder film to see if it's offside, it's really not necessary at this point. Just what are we doing here at this stage of the final? I don't know. It just seems like such a minute detail. It frustrates me even more because why can't we have these types of camera angles for every game? Right. So if it's like, if you're going to make it this, like it has to be this minute and everything has to be this close, give everyone those cameras so that they can do the same thing. Like if we're going to make it this like fucking ticky tack, obviously I come across all it buys because I want the Panthers to win, but you watch that replay. You can't convince me that he's completely offside. Yeah, it can. You can't see the puck again as the puck is black and the stick is black. So it's really hard to make out where anything is. I don't know how they overturned that call on the ice. I don't know how they had enough evidence to do that in the Stanley Cup final at this stage, but it's what you get when you play with fire with offside reviews for this long. You're just going to get stuff like this. It could have been worse, I guess, because they could have just been outright wrong on like a much more obvious call. But the Panthers were already getting caved in, and then they finally get something back. And once that got called back, you knew that game was over. They weren't coming back to win that game. That's too much momentum off their plate. And correct to the others, they're playing fantastic. Yep. Connor McDavid had back-to-back four-point games, which has never happened in the final. He's locked up the consummate regardless of what happens in game seven, I think, right? Oh, I don't know. I don't know. I still think if the Panthers win Barcoff is going to win it. Not anymore. If they wrapped it up in five, yeah. But after the way he played in game five to pretty much single-handedly drag that game back to Alberta, even though he didn't have any points in game six. That's kind of my thought. I don't know. Well, you go in game seven. McDavid's having himself a moment, and he's going to get something. That's the thing, man. This game seven is going to, like, it sucks for McDavid in this aspect. I don't know if it sucks for him. But I think he's feeling pretty good right now. Yeah. He fought all the way back. At least he's not getting swept. He single-handedly won game five for them. If it wasn't for him, this series is over at five because I thought the Panthers, that was their best game. They've played since game three, was game five. And McDavid was just a disgusting human being in that game. But you go into game seven. This is very reminiscent of, like, what Sidney Crosby had to do. They lost game six to the Red Wings the first time. And then they won game seven the second time. So obviously this is McDavid's first one. I'm biased. I don't want the Oilers to win. I'm still going to be cheering for the Panthers. But, god damn it. Like you said earlier, the Oilers are just playing really fucking good hockey right now. Their speed is killing the Panthers. And the Panthers are beating themselves, making a lot of stupid mistakes. Like Gustav Forzling, who we were talking about for game four, was one of the best events when he was minus three in game five. And then I think he was minus three again last night. Like, it's crazy. The Panthers are just killing themselves. And the Oilers are taking advantage of every mistake the Panthers are making. Yep. The change for the second goal for the Oilers in game six. Where is anyone going on the show? What has happened to you? You are one win away from the Stanley Cup. You have four opportunities to do this. And they just, they don't seem ready for it. They seem like the moment has just completely blinded them. And the Oilers and Conor McDavid especially are just running right through him. Is a completely different series than what we saw in the first two games. And they still have one more chance to avoid this because if they can't win game seven and they blow this thing again. This is the biggest collapse in HL history. I think it's the biggest collapse in sports history. They're lucky. They're not like a huge market team. That's the key. That's where like it's for the hockey fans who are like, yeah, this is like, this is one of the biggest collapse. But the Panthers are just niche enough where they don't have a huge fan base that it won't get talked about forever. Right. But I mean, in terms of the fact of the matter, 100%, this is the biggest. Oh, yes. Completely agree. Like this is an epic choke job if they can't close this out. You see, you just have to win one time in four tries. And you telling me that you can't do that after how well they played in the first three games in the series? Maybe others had their moments in the first three games that series. We were telling me that Panthers team can't win one more time. They look terrified out on the ice. It looked like they don't know what they're doing. I think they're like, when I look at game seven now, but I think the others have been playing with a little bit of like freedom where it's just like who can't like we're just going to go out there and play our game. And if it works, it works. I think the Panthers can be able to play with a little bit more freedom. This is the first time they faced elimination, all playoffs. And I just, I can't fathom them losing this game seven. I just, it's going to be a very interesting first 10 minutes of that game tomorrow night or Monday night. For some reason, we have to wait another two fucking days for the game. But that's going to be a, the first 10 minutes of the game are going to tell me everything I need to know about it. I mean, this is the kind of collapse that your Panthers fan makes you lose your love of the sport. How do you watch next year if they don't do this? Oh, I don't know, man. I don't know. Like it's being a fan just tests you like mentally. I don't think I could bounce back from this. I don't think I could. I don't think they can. Like this, there are tests and there's this. Like, oh, they lost in the final last year. Okay, they were at a gas up three to nothing one win away from your first cup. It would be, it'd be a little different if they won before. It would still probably be the biggest collapse ever, but just use the abs as an example. If this happened to them, they still won three times. I've still watched them win before to have not ever won and to be one win away from your first. And after everything the Panthers have put their fan base through ever, ever since the 90s where they had the longest playoff drought and then the longest playoff win drought. And then some of the ways that they've lost in the playoffs and just being terrible for the better part of 20 years to finally be here and a win away and to have it ripped away like that. I don't think there is a crueler way to treat your fan base personally. No, no, I mean, it's just. I really, really want the Panthers to win. I really, really want them to win. It's, it's going to be like, I keep wanting to say the Panthers, I think are going to be able to play free. I think they're good. Like the more I sit here and think about it, they're probably going to be sitting on pins and needles even more. Yeah, this is. Yeah. They are on the wrong side of history right now, where if they don't do this, they've not only lost in the Stanley Cup final for the second year in a row, they are now historically the greatest losers to ever do it. Ever. No team has ever collapsed harder than this in sports history. And they're going to be a little nervous. If the Oilers score first in that game, it is done. That building is going to be dead silent. That bench is just going to be terrified. Like they've looked through the last two games of this series, three games even. Hey, I'm going to, I'm going to haul hope. I think the Panthers win. I think the Panthers win game seven, just because I'm biased and don't want the oldest to win. And it also would just be peak. Like Canadian people being frustrated because they thought the series was over. They come all the way back and then just to lose game seven on like, there's going to be a controversial call that happens in this game. There is. And I think the Canadian fans are going to be able to say Gary Bettman screwed us again. So. It's great feeder. I mean, the NHL, like this is perfect for them. The best player of their generation, Conrad David has a chance to win a Stanley Cup file coming back from three, nothing down. But it also will be peak in HL if they just get their shit kicked in in game seven. Yeah, I think that I think this is going to be a really low scoring game. If nothing else, can this one just be good? We even had a good game seven in the Stanley Cup final. I don't think since I've really been alive. I mean, like the abs devils in 2001 was like, I dropped three nothing. Barely alive at that point. I was less than a year old, so I can't even count that like. The hurricanes in the Oilers, I guess because they at least both scored. Yeah, it wasn't a two one and then Williams got an empty net goal. Take a three one. Yeah. Like that one at least was close for most of the game. So I you can count that, but the Canucks Bruins was a shutout. Blue's Bruins was essentially a shutout until the final minutes of the game. Just have it be good. Close game. Imagine this goes to overtime. It has to, right? Oh, dude. I could you imagine being a fan? Imagine it's like it's it's one one overtime. Game seven Stanley Cup final. If the you're a Panthers fan that if you the Oilers score the next goal, you have blown a three nothing lead in the fine. I would die. I wouldn't survive to see who scored the goal. Like my heart would just give out. I agree. I don't mean more stressful situation in sports. No, there's not. And if you look at the gambling odds for the game on Monday, you have. It's basically 50 50 Panthers or minus 112 Oilers or minus 108. I got in on the Oilers as underdogs before that game was even over. Because I think the Oilers are going to win the game as much as I hate to say it. I hate to say it. The Oilers are going to win the game. How do they not at this point? The Panthers haven't even looked close to them over the last couple of games. I think Conor McDavid is going to have a game that gets talked about for the next 50, 75, 100 years. Honestly, I think it goes to overtime. And I think McDavid scores the winner. I think we're just going to have that moment that lives on in history. And Conor McDavid, if he does that, and even if he doesn't, they still win this game and win the series, he's a top five player all time, right? Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Already. It's hard to say that he's. Yeah. Because I'm trying to think of it's like, because it's like. They're still above him. They've done their stuff. Yeah. I'd say you can put McDavid toe to toe against pretty much anyone else at that point. Yeah. I was trying to talk Crosby up a little bit more. But I think McDavid's better than Crosby at Crosby. Like at the two peaks, I think McDavid's better. Yeah. I mean, he has 41 points in these playoffs. The fourth most ever already broke Gretzky's assist record in the playoffs. And if he leads his team back from three, nothing down in the final and wins the consmith, which he will, I think, regardless of the result. Yeah. That's a top five player ever. And you can put Crosby in there. You can put how in there, Bobby, or but McDavid is very much in that conversation and only going to keep going up because he's still not even in his thirties. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, it's tough because like, I don't want to disrespect what Sydney Crosby's done. Because Sydney Crosby is one of the all-time braids. But Conor McDavid is probably, if he wins this cup, that's the only thing he doesn't have in his trophy case is a Stanley Cup. And it comes. That's the only... Never going to have a Calder, though. And Aaron took it from him. Never going to have a Calder, which is crazy. Hey, Miss Crosby. He's the greatest Calder, though. But am I trying to make a case against you on that point? But we love Alexander Ovechkin to make David's better than Ovechkin. Yeah, I can't debate that. Yeah. This is true. Because like you could say, Gordy Howe, Bobby Orr, but I think those guys were great players, but Conor McDavid is better. I think you can make the case he's top three all-time if they win this game. Yeah. I think you can make the case for top three. I think just bare minimum, he's fifth. Okay. Put Howe and Orr ahead of them. Okay. That's fine. Yeah. But McDavid's going to pass them in time. So I don't think it really matters. He's already well past a thousand points, isn't he? McDavid? I think he's like right there, isn't he? I want to say he passed it. I think we would remember, right? I think he's like right there. He'll pass it, I think. Yeah. He's at 982. So he'll hit it. Okay. Over. Gross human being. Yeah. I think he is top five all-time and we'll have a lot of people being like, oh, no way. And it's like, just watch the guy. I know abs fans listening to this, our piss that we're talking to the others right now. Trust me guys, we know what we're doing. Just trust us on this one. All right. We're trying to pull out all the stops. I'm not going to say directly what it is, but we're, we're doing our best here to try to see to get what we want out of this series. We're not going to directly call it out. But I think the Oilers win the game. And I do genuinely believe that jokes aside. I do genuinely believe the Oilers are going to win the game. I just don't know. I don't know how they don't finish this. It's not like it's just been bad luck for the Panthers. Oh, they've gotten bad bounces, bad calls against them. But Robski hasn't looked good. And Barkov can only do so much by himself. Montore looks terrible. Ekblad looks terrible. They haven't gotten anything from like anyone else. They've never ever since game free. They look like a completely different team. Like they need to have a serious come to Jesus before this game or the Oilers are going to run them out of their building. It's going to be tough. I also am just looking at, I was looking at draft Kings at the odds. And I clicked on the heart just to see what it was. And I was like, how the fuck is Connor David plus 175 and Nathan McKens plus 700 for the heart? It's for 20, 25. Oh, it's for that team already. I'm like, wait a minute. I'm up to like $300 or my kid into win the hard one. I'm like, yeah, I'm pulling my life savings out of there. I'm plus 700. Next year. Okay. That makes a lot of sense. And then in Norris, guess who's the favorite to win the Norris next year? Is it rhyme with Sakhar? Yeah. Yeah. He's plus 250 when he was plus 800. I will take that. Take that. Yeah. I just got really confused there. And I was like, how is make I get McDavid's is having a better play off. That's the McKinnon. But let's not get dumb here. McKinnon's winning the hard. It's not getting ahead of ourselves here, but yeah, but I mean, we're talking about the Oilers like they've already won the series. If the Panthers win game seven, Dave won the cup and all this is a fun caveat, but it ultimately didn't matter. And then we're talking about how the Oilers didn't win game one. And then they just couldn't end up finishing the job. But I think regardless, McDavid's going to win the consmith. I think there's too much media hype around him for them to take it. Yeah. He's minus 3000 right now to win it. Okay. So he's probably winning that. Yeah, which I don't know if that's the Canadian market boosting it. I don't know man. When you have the fourth most playoff points of all time, broke a Gretzky record, first player to ever have back to back four point games in the Stanley Cup final. There comes a certain point where it's like, we're in game seven at this point. Most valuable player the playoffs is probably McDavid unless Barcott is like a six point night or something. We'll see. I don't really know who to bet on for this game. I want the Panthers to win. So I will probably bet on the Panthers. I want the Panthers to win. So I will be putting every sense I have on the Edmonton Oilers. That's fair. I probably won't even bet on it, but how much is that if Barcott wins, I'm doing math in my head. Wow. That's crazy. We're going to throw that on there for that to win the consmith. I threw five dollars on him at plus 1200. So win 60 bucks. So we're going to a game seven. I think this is the biggest game of my life. I think this is the biggest game I'll probably ever see. I don't know if we'll ever even see a Stanley Cup final where it goes to game seven after being three nothing. It hasn't happened in 80 years, regardless anyway. So I just don't, it's been 10 years since it happened at all in the playoffs. Last one was 2014 with the Kings and the Sharks. And before that, it was the Flyers and the Bruins. And again, I think this is just the biggest game ever. There's probably been some games before my time that maybe have been bigger. But at very least for the ones I'm aware of, I don't, I don't think it gets bigger than this. How could it? I don't think it does either. I'm really looking forward to it. It's just a shame we have to wait till Monday to watch it. Right. Oh my God. Here's our schedule for the rest of the week, Monday, game seven Thursday is the awards Friday is the draft Saturday is rounds two for threats, two through seven of the draft Monday next Monday is the start of free agency, not to mention all the trades that are probably going to happen between Monday and Friday before the draft. So buckle up. This is probably going to be one of the busiest hockey weeks of our lives. Yes. Very much so. Very much so. And again, it's going to be fun. We're going to be on call ready to go. Wait, that's what we were talking about beforehand on this episode is anything can happen this week when it comes to when it comes to recording. So you could hear from us on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday this week. It just depends how the news breaks. Yeah, we're going to have to be all I'm going to be on a business trip. So that's going to be fantastic to try to work out at the same time. So if we do have an emergency pod and I sound very garbled because I'm in a hotel room probably Friday will be fun for the draft because I'm also going to be on a plane. So that'll be fun to see how that ends up working out. But this is going to be a hell of a week. I did not think we were going to be here. Like I felt pretty confident the Panthers were going to wrap this thing up in five or six, even if they didn't sweep the thing. They look like dog shit. I don't know how they win game seven. I sure hope we're both wrong. I hope so. But we'll see what happens in game seven, the game of our lives. And in terms of other news, there's still a lot going on. The league is just kind of sick at this at this point that the fact that this is still going. You can't ask them to just hold up all of their moves until four days before the draft. So you're already starting to see some moves come through. But first and most importantly, you've mentioned off the hop, Andrew Kaguiano has officially announced his retirement and will be joining the avalanches front office. And man, what a career. What a warrior. We had an inkling that this was coming. Probably he wasn't going to be back regardless of whether he wanted to play or not. But sounded like they were going to bring him back if he wasn't going to retire. But sounds like just the end of the road for Kaguiano after an incredible career. He does end it with a Stanley Cup, thankfully in 2022 in his first season with the team. And the ultimate warrior, I don't know if we'll ever see the kind of warrior like Andrew Kaguiano because you see people talking about like the kachucks of the warriors of the world. Kaguiano is a real warrior. You saw the kind of hits that guy took in his career. I think it's also a change in generation to where it's like, hey, buddy, you have a broken shoulder. You're not playing and the doctors will actually stop them where Kaguiano is probably the last of the breed where it's like, I don't give a fuck what you say. I'm going out there and playing. Yeah. I broke his neck. He broke his neck and went through an off season of nothing but pain and finished the game. The ultimate warrior. I always remember that one against Tampa the year after where I think it was Ian Cole just knee straight like the most neon hit I have ever seen. I thought his every ligament in his knee was completely destroyed. He goes to the locker room. He's back two minutes later. Yeah. Yeah. He's a disgusting human being. We made the joke that he is Wolverine where he has the serum in his body where he just doesn't get hurt and I forget I may be butchering the stat. I think it was Tom Green tweeted out he had 17 seasons in the NHL and in those 17 seasons he missed 27 games. Yeah. Over the course of 17 years, he missed 27 games and most of them like came towards the end because he was 37 at that point it was shocking when he actually started to miss a couple of games towards the end of his career but he had that Iron Man streak going for so long they got broken by suspension unfortunately. The one time where everyone was like why did you suspend for this? Yeah. I mean, it's just a great Michigan man. Go Wolverines go blue and his contribution to the abs is it wasn't necessarily on the ice. I thought on the ice he was solid but off the ice you could just tell how much these the players loved him and what a leader he was in the locker room and I also think Nathan McKinnon loved him like I just genuinely love the guy Nathan McKinnon did and it's a good thing he retired because I think we talked about it right after the season. It was kind of just like cogs you've lost a little bit of a step just a little bit and he wasn't great on the PK this year he was he had his moments in the regular season but just kind of ran out of steam near the end. I think it was the right decision for him to retire. Yeah and the fact that the ads are keeping him around and keeping him in a front office role like I think that's honestly the best case scenario they could have hoped for here where I think you're right Coglion just struggled a bit towards the end of the season ran out of gas his thing is was on the penalty kill and was one of the worst penalty killers especially towards the end of the season in the playoffs he just didn't have the speed anymore and regardless I think you're completely right that most of what he brought was in the locker room and there's always that story I think that gets underrated after game five against Tampa and they lose that game they're going back to Tampa it's Coglion that is the voice in the locker room that helps them calm themselves down and go out and win game six and win the Stanley Cup almost like Florida could use him right now and he was a final piece for that team that just didn't make a ton of noise at the deadline gone for a fifth round pick but was the old guy without a cup that gave the guys just that little bit of extra drive little bit of extra push to go and win that thing for him and you see the video of him hoisting the cup what's the first thing he does he gets it he turns around towards everyone and hoisted and they all go for Cirk yeah we get to jump in like a little kid I love that video making it just like he's jumping like a little kid but he does it so it is it's going to be a bummer not seeing Cog's play anymore I always like the way Coglion played he just always seemed to play for the abs rivals like always and when he finally came to the abs I was like good this is the piece they needed that line he formed with Darren Helm and Logan O'Connor was a very big reason why the abs won a cup that line was a nuisance to play against and it's very weird to think it's only been two years and now two of those players just aren't on the team anymore yeah I mean I guess that's kind of normal for Stanley Cup winning teams you just lose a lot of your depth guys but yeah Darren Helm retired now Coglionos retired huge important guys to the organization that we're just never going to forget and I think it's fantastic that he's sticking around I hope to see just a little bit more of him in the future oh he's going to be a GM in this league 100% one day yeah I mean do we know exactly what he's doing player development yeah I've seen he's just doing a bunch of stuff right now which I think is player development scouting and I think he's going to be doing some stuff with the Eagles and then I think they're just going to see what he's pest hat and find a way to have him stick around but I'd love for him to stick around as long as it's also awesome that he's sticking around because he wasn't even here that long it's here for three seasons but he was in Dallas for longer but guess we made an impression well and I mean can you blame them I mean would you rather live in Denver or Dallas Denver Dallas or Anaheim yeah Anaheim I mean Anaheim is pretty nice why am I saying but Anaheim is pretty nice but it's I think it's the first domino to fall for the abs with him retiring and he's still going to be around we're still going to see videos of him but what a warrior was the first on the ice every single morning skate he he just loved hockey and that's why he's still going to be working in it and he's going to be the GM of a team one day he will be because I just think he's he has an eye for talent and he knows what the work it takes to get there but the abs I think added a nice asset to their front office I think it all kind of worked out the best way possible here at least for Cagliano this off season where yeah this the speed just wasn't there anymore just a step behind but I don't think anyone really wanted him to go so it's good to at least have him sticking around for the foreseeable future and kind of was already planning to not have him on the team anyway so I'm not sure it really affects much in terms of roster projection for next season but give me a chance do you think Cagliano is going to be just like he was when it came to like morning skate he's going to be the first in the office who get there at like 5.30 when the shift of start till 8 oh yeah why did you get there a story because I don't know what else to do this is what I was born to do he'll probably still be doing his like his pregame warm-ups just you know I got to make sure my body's ready you never know you never know you never know hockey trials are in 86 days got to get going here but he's going to be that like psychopath who's like Andrew you realize you only get paid to work eight hours a day right and then be like yeah but what was I what was I supposed to do for the other 16 what do you do after 17 years of the NHL and playing over 1200 games almost 1300 games how do you just like adjust to normal life I don't think you can't and I think that's why because these people who are professional athletes are such lunatics in a good way where they're so driven that they they don't know what else to do and that's why they get involved in the sport and become really good at it because they're they're just lunatics and Andrew Kogliano by every definition is a lunatic like he's a lunatic in a good way so yeah you can only golf so much like I say to myself I love to golf like I love golfing one of my favorite things to do I don't think I could golf every day I mean if I was yeah I could but also at the same time I I am so bad at golf I think I would just get so pissed off I'd be like what this game I'm done yeah well you don't have but you don't have the Kogliano drive you're not the first yeah I don't have the Kogliano drive and I also don't have the Kogliano money so I'll go out of money or the titanium bone anything like that yeah nothing but probably overall I did golf every day I probably need like Tommy John after two months oh I I'd need back surgery for sure but overall shout out Andrew Kogliano um basically the abs roster is just Nathan McKinnon, Mika Ransden and Kail McCarrds, Monteb, Sam Gerard, Josh Manson. And it's only up right now. Yeah and Ross Colton and we'll see how long that stays because the rumor from Frank Servali he put him eighth on his trade target list and Ross Colton has a no trade clause that kicks in on July 1st so there's a possibility or at least Servali thinks so that Ross Colton might not be on this team and maybe a little more than a week which we've kind of floated arounds ever since the season ended because Ross Colton finished the season with 40 points it's pretty good he's just it makes four million dollars which is just a bit expensive I think the plan was to have Johansson and Colton make four million dollars together and have two very capable centers down the middle that obviously did not work out because Brian Johansson was not very good at hockey here they go out and get Casey Middlestadt instead who is gonna make more than four million dollars I'd imagine so I'm not surprised at the reports I think I'm just more so than what are we doing instead because I until I see that plan come to fruition I'm not quite sure what it would be because Colton is a little overpaid I think we most of us can agree on that it's just four million for him it's a little much he's making 3.5 I don't think anyone would bad and I had right and he got three more years of that and I also think it's the no trade clause coming in that has people maybe speculating on on what could be going on here too because it just only gets harder to move him in about nine days or so or by the time of recording this nine days and it's a full no trade clause for next season and then the two years after that it's a modified no trade clause where the details are still to be determined I will say Chris McFarland loves giving out no trade clauses yeah it loves it it's an interesting contract because this was obviously before Colton ever played a game here and before he had ever hit 40 points in the NFL they gave him the four million dollars based on a lot of his potential and what they thought he could be here and in a way I think they got what they expected from Ross Colton but I think they just expected a little more yeah I think it's like it's a weird way to put it because they were playing second line minutes for a majority of the season that line of O'Connor, Wood and Colton and they produced for a good amount of it I really think if Ross Colton gets traded I think that's a good indication that they're expecting Gabriel Landis got back some point in that regular season yeah because they got to find a way to save money somewhere the reality of this off season is that if they really want to compete with the Florida's and the Edmonton's and the Dallas of the world and truly make another good go at the cup they're going to need some guys to move out some money to move out so that they can build a little bit of a deeper team whether that is Colton whether it is Manson like we've talked about it's still yet to be seen but for Colton he had 17 goals and he had 40 points in 80 games this season where I think they just wanted a little more play driving from him and I think they were disappointed with special teams because you're paying four million dollars for a depth center that doesn't really penalty kill didn't spend a lot of time on the power play just didn't produce much on the power play all that much and then you've gone out and gotten a guy like Casey Middlestad that's going to reduce his role it's an interesting conversation at the very least but if Roscoe and gets traded then you're going to have to find a third line center because now you don't have one you don't really have one in your system at the moment and I know someone's screaming Cal Richie I don't think that's happening yet I don't think there's still two years away minimum I just don't think there's much appetite for that in the apps organization yet to throw away the first like real blue chip prospect they've had since by room just throw him right into the fire and ruin his career right off the bat I just need to figure out with Colton like is he I don't want to move Ross Colton but four million dollars is four million dollars like that adds a lot of money for a third line center and you probably can find a cheaper option for that right does it make your does it make your team better because if you're getting rid of Ross Colton you better have a plan in place when I think the plan is that if Ross Colton gets shipped out the door that money's going to Jonathan Duran and then I think they're also anticipating Gabriel Landeskar to come back at some point in the regular season right I think that's what that means if they trade Ross Colton and or Josh Manson right it is also interesting because if they trade Colton I imagine they have a target they want to go after in free agency if not by trade but there's also not a guarantee you're going to get those guys right let's say you get a fourth line or third line center for three million dollars are you going to be able to get 30 35 points out of them like they're the one that comes to mind for me right away is Colton Sizzins and that who makes just a touch under three million dollars are you going to get the same kind of reduction from him I don't know I think it's interesting conversation I don't think it's a necessity that Colton gets traded he's on this team next year I don't think anyone blinks now he's a fine player good third line center I still think there's room for improvement there he's only 20 70 he's not a super old guy I'm not expecting him to break out for a 60 point year or anything like that but I think just another system with the abs maybe a healthy Logan O'Connor this whole time I think he's a fun guy to have around but I think just same with with Colton right now I'm not super attached to anything at the moment if it makes the team better if they have a plan in place if this helps bring back true in and makes it easier for Landis God to come back and you can find a cheaper third line center and get this team closer to winning again then then I'm all for it yeah I mean it's you can't get attached to players it's a really shitty part about being a fan in a hard cap world you cannot get attached to players because they go out the door very quickly especially these depth guys and it's going to be interesting I see where Sarah Volley's coming with this but I also just I think he's speculating a little bit too yeah because it just it didn't sound like there was much behind other than the abs need to clear money here's a target for them to clear some money yeah I think he's got a point with it again like I said earlier I just I don't think they're happy about the lack of penalty kill from Ross Colton I think they were expecting a little bit more on that if you're gonna pay him four million bucks and it's not an unmovable contract four million for three years I think a team like New Jersey where he's from would be a good target for them but I think they're fine with if nothing comes together I don't think they're gonna blow up any off-season plans but if a deal comes together then they're gonna do it agreed agreed it'll be interesting to say the least but I like you said I wouldn't bad and I have Ross Colton's here and if McFarland thinks he can improve the team by trading him I'm all for it yeah I'm interested to see what's gonna happen because I don't think it happens after July 1st he's gonna have the no trade clause at that point so you're gonna be getting much less in return he's gonna have to approve a trade and so if it is gonna happen it's gonna happen before free agency so it might even happen tomorrow might happen during game seven on Monday we don't really know it's the whole thing going on with this week is we really have no idea but it's also interesting to note that like Chris Wagner is the guy who's right behind him on the depth chart so there's gonna need to be some kind of replacement plan yeah there needs to be a plan it needs to be a plan because if Colton doesn't make it to free agency this year it really does kind of put a stink on last year's off season because maybe Drewann sticks around and then Wood would still be here but then that would be both Colton and Johansson and Tatara up the door in less than a year but they swung for the fences then yeah I don't know I'm interested to see what they do I don't think Colton's moving just because I still don't think Landis is coming back this regular season I think at the release he's coming back in the playoffs yeah if you're asking me what I think is gonna happen right now I don't think he gets traded but we've also seen my minions don't mean shit so whatever we say it doesn't mean anything so it's just it's just the way it is but it is fun not fun it's it's speculation season for sure hey everybody hope you've been enjoying this episode so far interrupting to bring you a word from our sponsor @draftking sportsbook we are this doesn't hit only on draft kings the crown is yours now back to the episode but we've already had some other stuff going on and in typical NHL fashion it all happens on the exact same day which was on Wednesday this week where pretty much all the moves happen all at once Jacob Markstrom gets traded from Calgary in New Jersey Barkley Goodrow gets picked up off of waivers by the sharks from the Rangers going around his no trade clause and then the one that I'm gonna save a little bit because I have some opinions on it up here Luke Dubois who we've talked about at length at times on this show traded to the Washington Capitals one for one for old friend Darcy Kemper so Kemper is found his way back out west to the Kings and I get to deal with Pierre look Dubois for the next seven years so that'll be a great time but we can start in order and start with Jacob Markstrom going to the New Jersey Devils which was the rumor at the trade deadline for some reason didn't work out and then the trade that ultimately comes through here I gotta be honest I expected a little more out of this trade for the flames after all the the back and forth that we heard at the deadline but the deal is Jacob Markstrom at 31% retained for Kevin Ball and a 2025 first round pick that is also top 10 protected which was not as much as we were hearing that this trade was going to get at the deadline yeah I mean I think the market probably cool on Markstrom a little bit and 31% retained is I think a good appetite for a protected first round pick Kevin Ball is a decent defenseman he's nothing he's not going to change the trajectory of the Calgary flames but he's solid I like the trade for New Jersey they get their goaltender I just don't know what Markstrom you're gonna get are you gonna get the Markstrom from three years ago or are you gonna get the Markstrom from two years ago are you gonna get the 915 or are you gonna get the 885 you really there's there's no way of knowing what Markstrom you're getting yeah I think the flames like the value they got isn't terrible but it's not great we're now there's Elliot Freeman saying that the flames might have valued Kevin Ball over Alex Holtz which if that's the case people need to be rigging Craig Conroy's phone off the hook all the time and seeing what they can cry out of Calgary right now because that is not a not a good deal if that's what really went down here and for Calgary I don't know like was it that's was that the best offer? Probably not they probably could have gotten more at the trade deadline but that's the thing is these teams think they can just be so patient and someone will overpay but that's not always the case like some teams don't get desperate enough like the devil's were the most desperate team for a goaltender last year and still their only moves they made at the trade deadline were for Jake Allen and apple cockin' it like it's that that that was it and they needed a goaltender more than anyone I think that they get Mark Strum it puts the devil's back into a fringe playoff team granted the devil's were beat to shit last year with injuries if they can say how they I think they're a fringe playoff team again yeah I feel pretty comfortable saying the devil's are gonna make the playoffs next year and even if they don't the best case scenario for the flames here is they get the 11th overall pick there's probably not gonna be that's probably gonna be closer to 20 and Kevin Paul is a young guy he's a six six defense man but he's fine he's gonna be a good third pair maybe second pair guy but probably just a career third pairing guy on your defense and for Mark Strum it really feels like you're you kind of wasted some of his value here you got some of the back last year after he had a pretty solid year behind a pretty bad flames team and he could have gotten a lot of the deadline is I just think they waited too long and now they had to take a pretty substandard package I think for the devil's they've gone from having probably some of the worst tandoms in the league to now they got Mark Strum and Jake Allen which that's pretty good I wouldn't say so it's not the best but compared to last year they got yeah we take fan of check in the up that's Santa's a yeah he would that was for cocking it wasn't it yeah okay pretty sure pretty sure that was the deal yes fan of check is now with the sharks but okay yeah so now they've gone from the mess that it was last year too that's a pretty solid 10 and where Mark Strum's not gonna play 70 games Jake Allen's gonna get a lot of those as well if they just get good gold tending and Dougie Hamilton doesn't miss the entire season and Jack Hughes is an out every two weeks I'd say I'm I'd put the devils over a fringe I'd say they're almost a playoff lock at that point that's a very very good hockey team yeah I'd agree it's just you never know with injuries injuries like you just never know and Dougie Hamilton's not getting any younger Jack Hughes seems to miss at least a month of season every year I guess he only missed 20 games which isn't nothing but it's not that bad for Jack Hughes yeah for Jack Hughes he played 62 games still I mean that's I'd want more out of like what you hope is the best like he is the best player on that team you need more than 62 games from him right but I mean he had season ending shoulder surgery and you know there's only so much you can do at a certain point I mean guys get hurt sometimes no I don't disagree it's just that I don't want to say they're a lock playoff team just because you have no idea what injuries are gonna happen right and he's gonna be 24 I think next season Jack Hughes or he's no he's just turned 23 like there's a real challenge like Jack Hughes could have over 100 points next year and you get the full season for Dougie Hamilton this Luke Hughes sophomore season he was really strong this year Segan Thaler and John Marino still there and he still have Nico Heesher as one of the top defensive centers like Timo Meyer hopefully isn't the same Timo Meyer that they had last year because they gave him a lot of money but I think this is a real solid team still young he just gave him a little bit of goaltending and indeed you forget they have the man himself Curtis McDermott he's gonna drag him I can think I forget about Curtis McDermott and he's signed a big ticket this offseason you didn't mention he should pay me he should be paid Curtis McDermott should be paying me for how much propaganda I put out for that guy my guy should at least be getting like 500 bucks of that million 1.2 million he's getting a year like we should I think we should be getting royalties on this show yeah because uh I the prop again that was putting out for that guy is ridiculous and I miss him every day I miss him every day I I was going back and just watching old ha abs highlights and the goal he scored against the minnesota wild this year came up on my tick-tock likes and I was like the good times meant good times good times I missed I missed the big rig but uh he's in New Jersey now fly high young king but I do like this move the doubles I think new jersey yeah he's not there he's just a new jersey which you might as well be dead if you're living in New Jersey um sorry I know you're an east coast guy I'm pretty much living anywhere in the east coast fucking sucks no I live in the east coast and I can tell you for a fact you don't hate the east coast enough yeah it's the worst um but I do like this move for the devils I do forget how bad that division was last year for metro my remember they are they in the metro yeah the metro was shitty last year so caps made the plus of 90 points the devils are getting fun devils are gonna be fine but we'll see I do like the trade for the flames I or for the flames they get off that contract and I think the flames could be one of the worst teams in the league next year yeah this is a team that is going to be tanking next year and they're probably not done selling guys yet where they've been fighting the having to tear it down for a while and now I think they're gonna try again this year I don't think they're gonna get the first pick but being bad is being forced on them right now I'll soon until they buy out Hoover though I have two more years yeah it's true I think they're gonna be bad for a while and then they're gonna have a period where they're not gonna make the playoffs there's no point locking yourself into a longer buyout and then once they start to build back up again they're gonna buy them out maybe maybe he's good by then I don't know but maybe he's good and then also how quickly are they trading on some cadre I hope soon I hope soon as well but I would prefer a buyout I would too I would prefer a buyout but I'm just saying do you retain three million bucks getting as him cadre back down to four well maybe if you get 50% because he's making what seven million a year yep seven million a year you get in half that's three and a half four one two three four five more years I'm just I'm just saying yeah that'd be cool I'd give up a lot I'd give up a lot for that I will say the guy still the guy had 75 points still last year he's still got right he's still productive he was probably the flames best player last year probably yeah yeah I'm just saying that'd be cool but overall they got a lot of work too they have pieces but they're also pieces that could fetch you a lot in a trade not pieces like they might make a small playoff bush might be the same as this year they're just not going to be as close like they've been close the last two years but they've had a lot of bad luck a lot of injuries and there's not good enough at this level just not good enough where manji apani absolutely we should get traded because manco absolutely should get traded Sharon Gobet should absolutely get traded these are all guys with one year left we're like you're telling me Blake Coleman before he gets too old he got to trade him again he's still got that playoff value from Tampa he has he hasn't done anything bad yet to diminish that you can still get a lot and get off that deal you get a lot for him you get a lot for mosh apani a lot for mosh apani yeah that's what I'm saying man I think they need to just embrace this thing get some picks rebuild this team get young like I don't think they're in a shark situation where they're 10 years away they've they've got some things already here they just got to do this thing right yeah just got to get the retool but I just don't know conroy he's done a good enough job to have that confidence yet not yet we'll see what the draft does for him but I don't know maybe I'm being too harsh on because he did get cuz mango for lintholm which you upgrade for them we ragged on the Tofoli trade but Tofoli just didn't work in New Jersey Sharon Gobich they could get a lot for I don't know maybe I'm being too harsh when they've made this many moves it opens them up for criticism because they've made this many moves for high profile guys so I mean let's see it's only been the GM for a year yeah he didn't make the Hubertow trade no no trivially and somehow got a promotion from that now he runs the Leafs which fantastic yeah so that was the first move then the other shocker I think this was the biggest shock compared to what our last story is what are the sharks doing claiming barkly goo-drow like what did christuary give is it Mike Greer is that the name of the GM Mike Greer what did he give him for the sharks just to give the rangers a free pass like this is this is just two buddies doing each other a favor yeah I don't think there's any other way to look at this Mike Greer did him a giant favor yeah I think they were probably working on a deal the sharks have first priority on waivers so I think they're what I saw was that goo-drow had the sharks on his no trade list but this isn't a trade it's waiver claim so they went around like that and apparently goo-drow is not very happy about it but this is Mike Greer doing his buddy christuary a big favor they don't have to buy him out which I think they were planning him to do they don't have to attach a ton to trade him which they were probably planning to do and now the sharks just have him for three more years which oh they're buying him out for sure they're not they aren't oh they're he's going to play here for the full three I will tell you that right now because they're doing this for the vibes they're doing this so that mackeland celebration has a guy that I bark a good dry I guess it's just a good locker room leadership guy and just he had the 40% shooting percentage in the playoffs he had six was it six goals in the playoffs yeah more goals than he had in the regular season but it's just not that good still yeah he got hot in the playoffs at the right time for the Rangers but everything else is just not great but also the sharks aren't great it's not like he's making them worse so no it's just I can see like could you imagine me they're on your no trade clause but they still pick you up on wait for us that sucks it's interesting at least a little interesting that he's on the no trade list and it has to just be because they're terrible and he doesn't want to waste the rest of his career in San Jose being a babysitter now that's exactly what he's going to do but I think this is just they're trying to show celibreany that they're doing something and they're going to have a guy who's at least a positive locker room guy to be around because they also went and traded for title Andrea in Dallas as well for a fourth on pick which I think is a great move for them like you're getting a title Andrea with a fourth round pick so they're already hitting with that pick regardless it's just the sharks are not going to be good anytime soon even if celibreany comes out and has a hundred points this season this team is not coming close to making the playoffs they are at least I'd say three four five years away three four five and Will Smith coming in is going to help like the they have some young talent coming in it's just with the way those contracts work with Carlson Burns and hurdle that that team's gonna be hamstrung for a while with since they're retaining on them yeah I mean that's the thing because you're like oh they're going to trade Barkley Goodrich they can't retain money yeah they can't retain money for this entire season then because then Brent Burns contract finally expires but then it's Carlson for three more years and it's hurdle for like seven or six or seven more years so there's something there's some kind of plan cooking up in San Jose right now it's still very much in the infancy stages where I think people are ragging them a little hard for this I don't think it's that big a deal I mean the team like the Blackhawks pays Nick Folino four million dollars and they're also they need to reach the cap for at the same time yeah no I don't think it's a bad move for the sharks I'm just what a favor that they did to the Rangers how they got Barkley Goodrow is the problem picking him up for free not getting any assets in return I think is a complete waste of time and I don't know maybe he's just making it so Christian Rios in the favor in the future making it so Kelly McCrimino's him a favor in the future and if you're a GM right now just be calling him and see what kind of things you can get for free right now and then bulk on your favor later yeah because it's what what was Goodrow making 3.5 yeah it's like it's one of those like 3.375 one of those contracts where the numbers are just all over the place I mean good for him by again good for Barkley Goodrow but also the Rangers you're contracted out of that yeah and the Rangers are now have a little bit more cap yeah for the Rangers uh a plus like this is just a fantastic thing they're out from all that money and the only people that are mad about it are people that didn't watch the regular season yeah he was great in the playoffs okay you shot 40% in the playoffs it's not not gonna happen as not going to happen and most of them were in like this fan like three games yep really not gonna happen all that much and the Rangers need just a bit more money and having Loffernier be able to play top six pushed a lot of people down the lineup and Barkley Goodrow was redundant so yeah just a big big favor done by the Sharks for the Rangers and I'm interested to see how this this Sharks rebuild is going to go now that they have a guy or are going to get a guy like celebrating because there's no debate there we're we have a draft episode coming out soon there's no debate at number one it's Macklin Celebrini and he's being compared to Jack Hughes level as a first overall pick possibly even better like the only guys ahead of him are McDavid Matthews and Badard as guys you would if they were all in the same draft you'd take them over Celebrini so the Sharks might truly have their guy so I'm interested to see now that they have him they had Will Smith next year they've at least picked a couple decent prospects the last few years how the rest of this rebuild is going to go but I don't know it's you can't really see the plan right now because yet but actually I can't come to see the plan I see it a little bit but we are currently at rock bottom yes because the worse the Sharks will be it does not get worse than this it does not get worse than the season that they just had this is the hell period of the rebuild where they are a long ways away and finally next year things are getting a little better if nothing else just because Macklin's around it yep and Will Smith yeah and keep for good yeah that's a big one they got they've got guys and they have draft picks now because they have the Penguins pick as well which is 13th or something 14th overall they have the Penguins and then they have Vegas is coming up too right yeah they have Vegas is next year for hurdle so they've got stuff going here it's not the greatest rebuild I've ever seen so far but I wouldn't be surprised if by the end of the decade the Sharks are just right back in it again they're not gonna add forever that's not how the NHL works now how works but let's move on to the juiciest trade that happened and when you sent me this in in the text I thought you were joking with me you are the third person that thought I was kidding because I had first before anyone I had just happened to refresh Twitter at the perfect time that I had affiliate for even one second ago Pierre Loucke Du Bois going to watch and I sent it to you I sent it to two other people and they said you all said you are kidding yeah um this is an interesting move by the caps I'm letting you go first for this yeah I'll go first we are in a way like five percent a cap show because you obviously live in the Maryland area I am friends with you so I watch a lot of the caps because I love hockey but Pierre Loucke Du Bois we've said it many times in this show is one of those players who thinks he is a top-tem player in the league when he is the farthest thing from it um he is just the worst and he signs that big contract with LA sucks in LA and now just gets a free pass to move to Washington DC like how many free passes is this guy gonna get where people are just gonna think like oh this guy's he still has the potential I don't get what NHL GMC in him this is his third fresh start his third fresh start this is going to be his third team in three seasons he is in Columbus for four years he goes to Winnipeg in the Patrick Line A trade because there's that that famous clip of him just free skating just not even trying he doesn't want to play here anymore he wants to get traded he goes to Winnipeg and is fine it's a 60-point player he gets traded to Los Angeles and just for some reason honestly the Kings this the their initial trade for Du Bois is way worse than what the caps did because I just never understood and they signed him to eight years eight point five million dollars which why I've never I've never understood it with Pierre Loucke Du Bois he gets 40 points placed a full season 40 points for eight point five million dollars 16 goals and the deal for Darcy Kemper if we recorded this on Wednesday I like I probably would have mid-sentence picked up my computer and thrown it off about Canadian because I was so so mad about this trade now that I've had a couple of days to sit on it I don't like it but I'm more open to the idea than I was but I also understand Pierre Loucke Du Bois not a superstar and eight and a half million dollars is too much and it's going to be too much his entire time while he's here but I also don't think he's la bad I think there is a 60-point player in there where I think don't buy into the hype man no I'm not buying into the hype but he had 60 points back to back years in Winnipeg but that's not good enough for eight and a half million dollars for seven more years so I'm not talking about this by any metric I also don't take the coping phase right now you're in the coping phase I am I was very out of it at first from like okay Darcy Kemper got replaced by Charlie Lindgren in the regular season in the playoffs it was all Charlie Lindgren Kemper did not sniff the net getting off of that contract I think is fine you didn't give up anything I'm not happy that there's no salary retention here eight and a half is too much for Pierre Loucke Du Bois and if any other team made this trade I'd be clowning them for it so I have to do the same here I've never understood it with Pierre Loucke Du Bois I've never understood the hype around the guy I don't know what he's ever done to earn a reputation that got him eight and a half million dollars other than being a third overall pick and a center I just cry baby bitch and now this is again his fourth team by 25 he needs multiple fresh starts and now I'm just supposed to be convinced that this time he's got it on the capitals who are going to be shit for a little while here yeah they made the playoffs last year they were not good they had 90 points they got swept in the first round not a good hockey team they are still in a process right now of trying to slowly phase out the old era and try to rebuild for the future at the same time which confuses me even more with this because you're locking yourself into seven years of Pierre Loucke Du Bois and I just are you expecting him to be a top line center for you or are you really truly genuinely okay with having best case scenario I think for Pierre Loucke Du Bois he's a one B at the absolute peak of his power he is a second line center a very good second line center I don't think there's I don't think there's much to his game that makes him a top line center in the NHL but he can be a good second line center are you really okay with locking yourself into this deal for seven more years for good second line center at that and that's the best case scenario worst case scenario is the same fucking thing happens again except no one's willing to trade with you anymore yeah no one's gonna give him a fifth fresh start so at very least you are able to capture taking any salaries right now for anyone uh who's net soft so just one and that will be done by the end of the year but maybe there's maybe there's a scenario where they can flip him and they retain half and they get a first jump pick for him but then you're retaining half for six years after this season which but if you're going through a soft rebuild is that the worst thing in the world and why are we doing this at all no i agree yeah i agree because then why did this really happen at all it's a really bad trade and it's why they bought your cat friendly to begin with because now once cat friendly goes away no one can look at the deal anymore so you can't import it but it's a really bad trade and rob blake kudos to you man you got out from a really bad trade because that dude debauch weighed weighed trade was uh was really bad and we said that at the end of the day all played terrible that like at first trade velardi ayafala kupari and a second for du Bois and then locking him into eight and a half million dollars and they moved on from dursey too you can't forget that dursey gave shit down to you to dursey to arizona now you taught to make room for that deal and he was their third line center and he sucked yep like good rob blake gets out of it i think darcy kenper stole some good hockey left in him um it's it's a solid trade for the kings for the caps it's bad there's no other way to put it's a bad trade it's a really bad trade it's some upside i'm just not convinced i've now i can't now suddenly be convinced now that he's a cap because if the penguins made this trade i'd be laughing my ass off but he's coming here instead i've never believed in the guy i've never understood the hype i've never understood why what is the caps plan with brian linnard now i i mean because now that celebration is definitely coming over and i forget who else was at bu is now definitely coming over but i think he wanted to stay at boston college and win another national chant or try to win a national championship now that that's probably not happening maybe wait did he go to bc or bu brianlittard bc that's a bc was will smith and him yeah i'm will smith okay yeah and will smith is going to the sharks next year yeah there's a lot of info in my mind right now i'm trying to get straight but and i mean you might see ryan lennard at some point next year because at first it sounded like that it wasn't gonna be the case and he was gonna stay in college for another year which i think is fine but i don't know i think that changes a couple of things for them if ryan lennard comes around because he's a center right or is he a winger he is a winger okay it's a power forward and he's he's gonna be really good when he comes to the ichl he's probably gonna be my favorite player once he comes over but with du boi because not only this he now has a no movement clause kicking in for the rest of this deal so even then they didn't the kings did not have to consult du boi on getting traded to washington now i guess it's a no movement clause and not technically a no trade clause but it just makes it even harder to get out from this contract if it doesn't work and we've seen with multiple teams it just just doesn't work man yeah this is this is a bad trade i i i the caps this is a really bad trade there's no offense but i i just i would have rather have done nothing yeah it would have rather had they done nothing this entire off season and just given marison chanco a real shot the n_h_l_ and all the other young guys and just i i'd really rather just kick the can on the season because it doesn't matter all that much du boi is not fixing anything and it has the potential to be a massive massive problem massive problem that you can't get out of the downsides here really outweigh the positive like okay du boi puts it together he's happy here doesn't want to leave every team he goes on is finally ok i'm happy to be in washington even though we're not that good that's a solid center eight and a half million dollars for decent even their best case scenario just doesn't work out that well because were you putting them with obechkin now i like the one i think about you yeah i think yeah i think because again okay so that's your top line don't strong still playing with obechkin and tom wilson okay so he goes with marison chanco and the corpse of tjoshi corpse of t i don't know how tjoshi's not retiring man i man you don't have to do this to yourself anymore it's i love tjoshi and i don't want him to go but tj's been gone for four years yeah he hasn't been tjoshi forever now and he gets hurt every time he's on the ice and he has like four kids dude just it's okay it's okay just right who knows man honestly it's just it's a bad trade i don't think the caps are going to be happy with this and it would not shock me in the least if we're talking three years down the line he's getting bought out or traded yeah it also does confirm without any shadow of a doubt that nik bakstrom is finished yeah i thought we already knew that yeah wig if it was a if it was a 95 percent chance nik bakstrom was done that's now a hundred he's yeah i already thought he was done yeah this is the last year of his contract he's done he's not coming back they've got now du Bois locked up for seven more years lucky you man lucky you you gonna buy his jersey you know what maybe i mean i might as well make the most of this right yeah i have something because he fucking sucks dude yeah i'm just gonna make this is gonna be my bit now this is just you might be at pia luke to boy every time he scores a goal i'm gonna do a backflip yep that's your guy okay pia luke to boy he's gonna he's gonna have 82 points this year there you go under points he's every sucks they didn't know how to treat him and he sucks unironically i don't know why the kings ever made that trade that trade never made any sense for them they never needed pia luke to boy at least the caps need a center the kings never needed a center like pia luke to boy i never understood what they were doing with that trade they need a gold tender as well and they did that finally so you can kind of say in a way that they traded du pari velardi ayah follow in a second for darcy kemper which still sucks yeah it's a lot it's a lot but what are you gonna do that's just the start of the off season um there's gonna be a lot of craziness for us coming up like we mentioned in this next week we have a draft preview come in early next week we'll be back to recap just everything just be prepared the toadevs is podcast this next week and half is just going to be we'll be releasing it as the news comes yeah we're we've got we're recording a draft episode tomorrow we're bringing back an old guest that'll be probably coming out on monday and then we're just going to be on standby for for everything else i mean i apologize for the inconsistent schedule i started a new job this week christians started new jobs i was telling all the reffing stories and everything and we're just trying to figure out how to make all of this work as we start new lives and new stuff so this week is going to be busy i am i said i was earlier i'm going to be on a business trip during this very crazy week after game seven but i'll still be on standby for everything else but we can finish up with our one mailbag question for today which came from logan he's got two questions okay first one asking which abs player going into the 24 25 season is going to have the something to prove mantra next to his name oh that's tough i mean i don't feel something to prove but he's it's a big year for him i think logan o'Connor can he repeat what he did last year because if he can he's going to be in line for like a barkly goo drug type deal from some team yeah i think if he is not traded it's going to be roscol where as if he is another 40 point guy next year which again isn't bad they're just going to need more money in the future and he's going to be expendable but the answer if he doesn't get an extension which he will but to earn good will back from the fan base it's going to be meeko ransden because he's getting a lot of flak for the last season he had in the playoffs there's a lot of people not happy from him but the ultimate answer if he's playing for this team is val that's a guy more than anything who's going to have something to prove on the ice and off of the ice so if he is still on this team when the player assistance program expires in november that is leaps and bounds above every other player yeah we agree second question from logan asking which team needs to win the off season whether it's trades extensions or free agency signings ooh i mean the abs are up there abs are up there they got some interesting ones that's tough man i think usually they already started and it's new jersey yeah new jersey was up there like they're in the winning window i mean because every team technically needs to win the off season you want to have a good off season but i think in terms of the question i get what he's asking here i think the the hurricanes need to have a good off season it doesn't sound like they're gonna have one though i don't know what party natures is on the block i don't really get that like one of their against will made sign with the panthers do you see sarah volley talk about that seen gensil can sign with the conux the panthers the capital so it sounds like no one has any fucking idea yeah but it sounds like it's not going to be the hurricanes which is incredibly disappointing and the hurricanes just we can talk about them for a quick moment they have all this money coming off their books where gensil's going apparently natures is going as well they're talking about a slaven extension which is going to be important for them but like terra vinan is also going to be gone jarvis is going to need more money they're probably one of the more interesting teams this off season so i think new jersey needs to get back into the playoffs so i think they need to have a really good off season but carolina if they do this wrong their window can close sooner than anyone bought yeah i think they have to have a good i think vancouver has to have a good off season too i think vancouver's one of those ones because i think a lot of people are just expecting them to be good again i don't know if they're going to be i don't think they'll be that again next year i do think they will make the playoffs again but i don't think they're going to win the pacific but maybe they'll have a great off season then they're the favorite no like that that's where it's going to be because they had no expectations going in this season they surprised a lot of people and i don't know i think they have to have a good off season and what the answer is it's buffalo buffalo is another group of they buy a bunch of skin that was gotta make the playoffs here yeah have a good off season they've got to actually build a team here because how many times can we do this yeah yeah i mean it's going to be interesting that i think it sounds like they're gonna buy up jeff skinner which that could be an interesting half it could be evan raul's been talking about that a lot that he's probably going to get bought out i don't know how anyone would trade for that contract but if you're the saber's i mean it's not ideal to buy out a nine million dollar deal but you've you've sat through most of this for the most part okay you buy it out i want to see what this is now they're saving a good amount of money and then for two three years they got to do 2.4 which is not ideal but you got to do something here about this team you really got to stop being a joke and get this team back into the playoffs well and i i think tach talks it's going to bounce back next year i think a full year for bow barham is going to help darlene still solid i do still believe in the sabers i do it's just they they have to add a couple more pieces yeah like i think they really do need to take a good swing this off season and they already tried it with taylor hall one year but i think they need to get like a guy like a true genuine guy who's going to help take them to another level because this kind of slow and steady approach is just not worked you've got to get this team somewhere yeah i agree there's a lot of teams that need to win the off season but i mean it definitely never hurts to have a good off season yeah just a solid off season yeah i mean you put the abs in that category too they need to make all the right moves even if the oilers or the panthers win they still have difficult off seasons ahead of them they have to figure out so i'd just put really any team in that category but that is our mailbag question for today and i have genuinely no idea how long we've been going for i lost track of time like an hour ago so yeah we just kind of talk the story of our lives but we'll be back uh in the next couple days with another draft preview episode and then just keep your eyes peeled make sure you hit that subscribe button downloads and just get ready for a crazy week ahead oh yeah this is going to be a very interesting week to say the least i don't think anything like we've seen over the last couple of years game seven then awards then the draft and whatever craziness is going to happen in between and then free agency right after that so we're gonna be back we've got our draft preview episode and what the ab should do at 24 and beyond we're recording very soon that'll be out at the beginning of the week and then we'll just be on standby and waiting for the winner of what's again probably the most important game we'll ever see that doesn't involve the abs obviously so we'll see how that one goes but we are ready to wrap this one up here thank you all so very much for tuning in as always you can use promo code teleed apps it is on seat geek for 20 dollars off your first order of 50 dollars or
