The National Weather Service forecasts that remnants of what was Hurricane Beryl will bring heavy rains and possible severe thunderstorms to the Ohio Valley, parts of the Great Lakes, and the Northeast. Meanwhile, oppressive heat continues to blanket much of the U.S., Las Vegas' forecast is set a record for the fifth consecutive day over 115 degrees. On Tuesday, Death Valley National Park had the nation's high of 125 degrees Fahrenheit. In Oregon, the heat was suspected to have caused six deaths. I'm Jennifer King. Democrats still wrestling over whether President Biden should drop out of the race for the White House. He says he's in it to win it, but a seventh-house Democrat, Mikey Sherrill, has now said publicly that President Biden should leave the race, saying the stakes are too high, and the threat of Donald Trump returning to the White House is too real. There's word of Israeli airstrikes this morning that appear to have killed some people inside what's supposed to be a safe zone, according to officials. The AP's Charles Dilladesma. Israeli airstrikes early Wednesday have killed 20 Palestinians in central Gaza, including six children and three women. Some of them inside a purported safe zone declared by the Israeli military hospital authorities say this second straight night of deadly strikes in the central town of Dear al-Bala and nearby refugee camps come as U.S. Egyptian and Qatari mediators, as well as Israeli officials, come together in the Qatari capital, Doha, for talks trying to push through a long, elusive deal for a ceasefire and hostage release. I'm Charles Dilladesma. British police have been hunting for a man believed to be armed with a crossbow after three women were killed in a house near London. Here in the U.S., the jury in Alec Baldwin's involuntary manslaughter trial will hear opening statements today. This is AP News. Now to a car stolen with a baby inside. The AP's Lisa Dwyer with this story. Mississippi police say James Wilson was arrested Monday and charged with auto-affecting kidnapping. The Mazda sedan had its motor running when it was stolen Saturday evening from a gas station near Jackson. The car was found that night a few miles away with an unharmed seven-month-old girl inside. During a court appearance, Wilson said he did not steal the car. Police say Wilson is on probation for prior auto-theft convictions and surveillance video shows him in and around the area. Police are also investigating whether to bring any charges against the baby's mother, saying that parents should never leave children unattended in a running vehicle. I'm Lisa Dwyer.
