This is AP News. I'm Rita Falle. They expect barrel the storm to dump heavy flooding rain from Indiana and Kentucky northeast to upstate New York today. Meanwhile, that brutal heat is continuing to bake much of the nation. More than 161 million people were under heat alerts yesterday, especially in western states. President Biden's hosting the NATO summit in Washington where he announced another major air defense package for Ukraine. The AP's Sagar Magani is in Washington, as is Ukraine's President Zelensky. Zelensky arrived here pleading for more air defenses against Russian attacks, and President Biden announced to great fanfare there on the way. Dozens of additional tactical air defense systems amid a U.S. campaign suddenly an upheaval with questions about Biden's ability to keep leading NATO's key member, and Donald Trump's alliance skepticism. NATO Chief Ian Stoltenberg urged the West to keep sending weapons to Ukraine. The outcome of this war will shape global security for decades to come. Sagar Magani, Washington. Israeli airstrikes this morning killed 20 Palestinians in Gaza, some of them inside what was supposed to be a safe zone declared by the Israeli military, according to hospital officials. Back here at home, they've got a jury. Opening statements will begin Wednesday for the involuntary manslaughter trial of actor Alec Baldwin in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Twelve jurors and four alternates have been chosen to decide whether Alec Baldwin committed a felony in the shooting death of cinematographer Helena Hutchins on the set of the movie Rust in 2021. Eleven women and five men make up the panel. Baldwin faces up to 18 months in prison if convicted. I'm Arjis Arlette. Target won't accept checks from shoppers anymore as of July 15th. This is AP News. They found the body of an American climber in Peru buried in an avalanche 22 years ago. Police in Peru say they've recovered the body of Mountaineer Bill Scamful, one of the highest peaks in the Andes Mountains. The 58-year-old was trying to climb the 22,000-foot Mount Wascaran with friends in 2002 when they were buried by an avalanche. His family knew there was little hope of finding him alive or even retrieving his body from the thick fields of snow and ice. A group of high-mountain rescue police and guys found Scamful's body Friday near a camp some 17,000 feet above sea level. Word came as a shock to his children. Jennifer Stample says, "Your heart just sinks." For 22 years, she thought, "Dance part of the mountain and he's never coming home." The two friends were also killed.
