Among buildings hit, the children's hospital in Kyiv, forcing young cancer patients to take treatments outdoors. State Department spokesman Matthew Miller. These are sites that serve no military purpose. They're not sheltering Ukrainian military assets. They're not sheltering members of the Ukrainian military. These are civilian infrastructure pure and simple. Russian President Vladimir Putin hosted India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a state residence outside Moscow. Modi's two-day visit is his first since Russia sent troops into Ukraine, an action that has complicated the relationship between the longtime partners and pushed Russia closer to India's rival, China. During the talks, Putin congratulated Modi on winning the third term as Prime Minister. Under Modi's leadership, India has avoided condemning Russia's military action in Ukraine while emphasizing the need for a peaceful settlement. I'm Haya Punjwani. The chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, Representative Pramila Jayapal, is among key Democrats expressing support for President Biden continuing his re-election campaign. Sarga McGone reports Biden's been making his own case. In a two-page letter to Congressional Democrats, the president says he "declines to step aside" and that it's instead time for the intra-party drama to end. Later, in a phone interview with MSNBC's Morning Joe, the president said he's "frustrated" by calls from party officials to bow out, insisting average Democrats want him to "stay in" and he threw down the gauntlet. And more than 146 million Americans have been under heat alerts. This is AP News. Opponents of Louisiana's Ten Commandments Law are seeking an expedited hearing schedule and an injunction. Jackie Quinn has details. Parents and others who are challenging the Louisiana law that requires the Ten Commandments be posted in every public school classroom are asking a federal court to block the controversial law from taking effect before schools open in early August. They are also asking for an expedited briefing and hearing schedule. Opponents, many from non-Christian faiths, say the law violates the First Amendment's protections of religious freedom. Supporters say posting the Ten Commandments is appropriate in schools, saying they are part of the foundation of U.S. law. I'm Jackie Quinn.
