Harris County Constable Mark Herman says at least two people, a man and a woman in his area, are dead after trees fell on their homes. A 74 year old grandmother lost her life to a tree that had fallen into the house and basically cut the house in half. She called and said she had water going in her vehicle and so they went out there in the high water vehicles that we have. She says there were several rescues. Later in a phone interview with MSNBC's Morning Joe, the president said he's frustrated by calls from party officials to bow out, insisting average Democrats want him to stay in and he threw down the gauntlet, telling critics if they're serious, they should challenge him at next month's convention. Stocks waver to a mixed close, nudging the S&P 500 and the NASDAQ composite to more records. The S&P 500 inched up 1/10%, the NASDAQ composite rose 3/10%. The Dow Jones industrial average gave up an early gain and fell 31 points. That's about 1/10%. Specialty glassware maker Corning surged after raising its sales forecast. Traders are looking ahead to several earnings reports this week, including updates from Delta Airlines on Thursday and JP Morgan, Citigroup and Wells Fargo on Friday. Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell addresses Congress on Tuesday and Wednesday. Treasury yields were stable in the bond market. Seth Zutel, New York.
