AP News. I'm Ed Donoghue. Sources tell the AP the Republican National Committee's platform committee adopted a policy document reflecting former President Donald Trump's position opposing a federal abortion ban and ceding limits to states. It omits a national abortion ban for the first time in 40 years. President Biden is telling Democrats in Congress he's not going to step aside. In a letter the president called for an end to the drama within the party after his dismal debate performance. Speaking on MSNBC the president said average Democrats want him to stay in the race. I'm getting so frustrated by the leaks. Now I'm not talking about you guys but about the leaks in the party who they know so much more. But if any of these guys don't think I should run against me go ahead and announce the president. Challenge me at the convention. The convention is about a month away. At least two deaths have been reported from what is now tropical storm barrel in the Houston area. A 74 year old grandmother lost her life to a tree that had fallen into the house and basically cut the house in half crushing her underneath the tree and killing her. Mark Herman is a Harris County constable. More than 2 million homes and businesses in the Houston area are without power. Police say more than 100 people were shot in Chicago over the holiday weekend. Police Superintendent Larry Snelling says 19 of them were killed including an 8 year old boy. We have to really stop and think about the mindset of someone who will shoot a child. A helpless child. An unarmed mother. And think that that's okay. He recently turned down an offer to coach the Los Angeles Lakers. Today the University of Connecticut and men's basketball coach Dan Hurley agreed to a six year $50 million contract through the 2029 30 season. This is AP news. Israeli forces have moved deeper into Gaza's largest city in pursuit of militants who had regrouped their sending thousands of Palestinians fleeing from an area ravaged in the early weeks of the nine month long war. Residents have reported artillery and tank fire as well as airstrikes. Gaza's health ministry with limited access to the area who's not immediately reported any casualties. The incursion into Gaza City comes as Israel and Hamas drew closer to bridging gaps in indirect talks over a ceasefire and hostage release. I'm Charles de Ledesma. A landslide triggered by torrential rains crashed onto an unauthorized gold mining operation on Indonesia's Sulawesi island killing at least 12 people. Dozens of others were reported missing.
