AP News, I'm Ed Donahue. Despite questions about his candidacy because of a disastrous debate performance, President Biden is vowing not to drop his re-election bid. The AP's soccer McGonney has the story, but the president says he will not let 90 minutes wipe out three and a half years of work. The president was in battleground Wisconsin, part of a campaign blitz to show he's up to the job, as questions about his fitness for another term, Loom. He was a minute away from sitting for a network TV interview. The White House and Spokesom and Karine Jean-Pierre raise the stakes, as more Democrats called for the president to end his bid. The UN is worried about migrants. The AP's Donna Warder has the story. More migrants and refugees from African countries such as Mali, Sudan, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Burkina, Faso and Guinea are taking dangerous land routes in the Sahara Desert, and that's twice as deadly as the sea lanes across the Mediterranean. The Mediterranean already is the deadliest maritime route for migrants in the world. The summary of the report says that more and more refugees and migrants are traveling through areas where "insurgent groups," militias and other criminal actors operate, and where human trafficking, kidnapping for ransom, forced labor, and sexual exploitation are rife in "the United Nations," says some 72,000 migrants and refugees traveled these land routes to the Mediterranean in the first half of this year, and that just under 800 people have died or gone missing during those six months.
