This is AP News. I'm Rita Folley. Tragedy on the 4th, two people were killed and nine others injured when a pickup truck drove into a group celebrating the 4th of July in New York City. Police believe alcohol was a factor in the crash. President Biden celebrated the 4th on the White House South Lawn as he works to save his re-election campaign after that rocky debate last week. "I'm not going anywhere." President Biden added July 4th barbecue on the White House South Lawn. But sources tell AP his re-election bids under great pressure with some financial backers canceling fundraisers. "Hereter, Decent," California Governor Gavin Newsom offered a forceful defense at a Democratic event in Michigan, maintaining President Biden has the record and energy to win. "Look at his schedule. Look at the fundraising things that, you know, see, all that work, the work you're doing behind the scenes, the phone calls you're making, all the times you're making, alliance management, everything you do for NATO this weekend." The character to lead. "God bless. I like what the president acknowledges for human." Newsom's been mentioned as a possible replacement if Biden ends his campaign, Ben Thomas Washington. "Britain's getting a new Prime Minister, Labor Leader Keir Stormer." "People here and around the country have spoken, and they're ready for change to end the politics of performance, a return to politics as public service." Among his party's challenges now, trying to pump some new life into a stagnant economy. Hurricane Beryl is powered back up to a Category 3 storm and is headed for what could be a direct hit on Mexico's Caribbean coast resort of Tulum. Miriam Settra is there, visiting from Dallas. "It's just going to be hunkered down and just stay indoors until hopefully it passes." The Israeli military says it's been conducting counter-terrorism activity that included an air strike in the area of the West Bank city of Janine, four people killed, say Palestinian authorities. No other details yet. This is AP News. It's a big deal. The AP's Shelley Adler has it. The parent company of Sax Fifth Avenue plans to buy rival Neiman Marcus. The deal is worth $2.65 billion. The new organization would be called Sax Global. It will be made up of Sax Fifth Avenue and Sax off Fifth Brands, Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman, as well as the real estate assets of Neiman Marcus Group and HBC, which is a holding company that purchased Sax in 2013. Both Sax and Neiman Marcus have struggled, as shoppers have been pulling back on buying high-end goods and shifting their spending toward experiences, like travel and upscale restaurants. I'm Shelley Adler. The Labor Department issues the latest jobs report this morning. Analysts think the job market likely cooled a little last month, while still remaining fundamentally healthy.
