AP News. I'm Ed Donohuey. President Biden says he's staying in the presidential race. He's bouncing back from a poor debate performance. He also says this is about Donald Trump. "We cannot, we cannot, cannot let the sky, let it just be a disaster for America." The president spoke on the Earl Ingram show in Wisconsin on Civic Media Radio. There's a growing sense Biden may have just days to make a persuasive case that he has fit for office that Democratic support is drying up. St. Anselm's University Political Science Professor Chris Gull the area in New Hampshire says what the president is doing isn't enough. "I think he needs to be putting himself in front of not just voters, but the press as much as possible." The 4th of July parade was held again in Highland Park, Illinois, near Chicago. Two years ago, seven people were shot and killed at the parade. "Happy 4th of July." Revelers lined a new parade route as cars, and marchers passed by, but the festivities were preceded by a somber remembrance inside a school. "24 months since the darkest day in Highland Park." Mayor Nancy Rottering on WLS-TV "83 rounds, one minute. In that one minute, the course of countless lives were forever altered." In 2022 at the Highland Park Parade, a gunman opened fire killing seven people, church deacon Louis Vignocci. "One evil act can change how we live. We can't let that happen." The suspect, Robert Kremo III abruptly reversed away from a plea deal, and has now asked for a jury trial. I'm Jackie Quinn. The AP's Joseph Fetterman reports a team of Israeli negotiators are restarting ceasefire talks. It comes a day after Hamas submitted a new proposal in response to the latest US plan for ending this war. This is AP News. Election results should be coming in soon from Britain. The Labour leader, Sir Keir Starmer, arrives at a London polling station to cheers, with his wife Victoria, as voting in the UK general election gets underway. Voters are casting their ballots to choose the 650 lawmakers, who will sit in Parliament for the next five years. Outgoing Prime Minister Rishi Sunak surprised his own party on May 22 when he called the election early. An exit poll will be published as soon as the polls close at 10 o'clock, giving an indication of the likely result. Counting will begin immediately, but most of the results will only be announced in the early hours of Friday. Charles De La Desma, London. The International Swimming Federation says its executive director has been ordered to testify as a witness in a criminal investigation into the case of 23 Chinese swimmers, who tested positive for a banned substance in 2021, but competed anyway.
