This is AP News. I'm Rita Folle. Fireworks, parades, cookouts, it's July 4th and Americans are celebrating. Travelers are expected to break records at airports this week and 60 million of us are expected to travel by car for the holiday. But it's going to be dangerously hot in some parts of the country. The National Weather Service is Mark Schonard. The southern U.S. will be 92 around 100 from Texas and the portions of North Carolina. But the west coast is where we have the hottest temperatures. So portions of California, especially like the Valley of Central Valley of California, into the 100s, even into portions of southern Oregon over 100 degrees. And then there are the wildfires. The AP is done a water with one in particular. Some 26,000 residents of Oroville, California are displaced as hundreds of firefighters battle the blaze under extreme heat. The Thompson fire broke out before noon Tuesday, about 70 miles north of Sacramento, growing to more than five and a half square miles. Mayor David Pittman says there was a significant drop in fire activity on Wednesday. And he's hopeful that some residents could soon return home. I'm Donna Warder. Hurricane barrels blamed for at least seven deaths after pummeling Jamaica and the southeast Caribbean, aiming for Mexico's coast. President Biden says he is staying in the race for the White House, and he says he's going to win. Even after that devastating debate performance last week, he met with more than 20 Democratic governors at the White House last night. New York Governor Kathy Hochl was there. President Joe Biden is in it to win it. And all of us said we pledged our support to him because the states could not be higher. PBS continues its independent state tradition Thursday with the special a capital fourth, a celebration from the West lawn of the US Capitol in Washington. The opening number of a capital fourth will feature host Alfonso Ribeiro performing with Brit Stewart from Dancing with the Stars. Smokey Robinson will do a tribute to Motown, and former Olympian Sean Johnson East will lead a tribute to the US Olympic team heading to Paris. Sheila E will perform and she says that normally she takes a pretty traditional approach to the 4th of July. A lot of food. Everyone brings something and we play a lot of games. We're very competitive family. So even with the kids and we have just a great time. Other performers include sister sledge featuring Sludge and dairy members of fits in the tantrums.
