AP News and Ben Thomas The judge in Donald Trump's hush money case has postponed sentencing. Jake Offenhart explains. Trump was scheduled to be sentenced on July 11th following his conviction of falsifying records to cover up a potential sex scandal. But Judge Juan Mershan agreed to push back that date. After Trump's attorneys argued that a recent Supreme Court ruling granting broad immunity to presidents invalidated the verdict. The Manhattan District Attorney called that argument "without merit," but agreed to the delay as both sides present motions on the matter. The delay means Trump won't know his sentencing as he's formally nominated as a Republican National Convention. Josh Boke reports Congressman Lloyd Doggett has become the first Democratic lawmaker to publicly call for President Biden to withdraw from the presidential race following his disastrous debate showing. The Biden campaign tried to assure donors and voters over the past weekend. They held calls, they had fundraisers, they had meetings, and many participants walked away feeling there wasn't a clear path forward. They didn't see how Biden could overcome his performance and concerns about his age. And Lisa Dwyer has the outcome of a Virginia primary. The Virginia State Board of Elections has certified the apparent defeat of Republican Congressman Bob Goode, one of America's most conservative congressmen, to a challenger endorsed by former President Donald Trump. Goode says he will seek a recount now that the state has declared his opponent, State Senator John McGuire, the winner of the primary and Virginia's 5th Congressional District. State law allows Goode to request a recount because his margin of defeat is less than a percentage point. I'm Lisa Dwyer. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has told his Ukrainian counterpart the U.S. will be sending another $2.3 billion in security aid, including anti-tank weapons and munitions for air defense systems. And you and human rights experts say Russia has violated international law by imprisoning Wall Street General reporter Evan Gerschkovich, and should release him immediately. This is AP News. A judge is blasting efforts by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton to close one of the largest migrant shelters on the Mexico border. Paxton has been trying to enforce a subpoena for records of migrants who have been served at Annunciation House in the last few years. El Paso has been very, very good to refugees. Judge Francisco Dominguez ruled Paxton's attempts to enforce a subpoena for records violated the El Paso shelter's constitutional rights, and the attorney general's conduct has been outrageous. Paxton alleges Annunciation House was facilitating illegal immigration and human smuggling and operating a stash house. Annunciation House attorney Jerry Wessovich says shutting the shelter down is not the answer. All that's going to mean is more people in El Paso streets. Who does that help? The state is expected to appeal. I'm Ed Donahue. And I'm Ben Thomas. AP News.
