[Music] All right, my name is And welcome to this week's reefers rivalries with me, Michael Twentyman, the green reefer. And yeah, it's been a good few weeks since I've managed to get an episode out. I've been away for a couple of weeks in Nashville and it's took a long time to recover from a couple of weeks in Nashville. This is what a city that was absolutely crazy and I don't think it helped really that our hotel, the apartment that we rent now was, was right next to a moonshine distillery that had a taco shop built on the lake. Oh, thank God. Yeah, we definitely lost a couple of days when we found that spot. Then once we actually came round after going on a couple of day bender on the moonshine, one of the reasons we were over there was to see a band called Blackberry Smoke and we were seeing them on the Saturday. And there, you know, we could have, we just sort of recovered in a bit, looked on social media, the singer out of Blackberry Smoke, Charlie Starr. He was doing a signing in the Gibson garage, which was just around the corner, from where we were staying. You know, it was like, oh, it starts in like an hour. So, you know, we had a walk around and we had in line about the other one. I thought you were going to actually meet Charlie Starr, one of me, when you're all-time guitar heroes. And there, yeah, you know, we went up to meet Charlie Starr and, you know, shook his hand and I had a bit of a crack with him for, like, a couple of minutes and I know it was great. Yeah, and then we were, you know, thought, oh, well, we're already out now. So, the last two days were a bit of a blur, so we might as well just carry on again. So, we went to go down to a little bar that we found called a tin roof, which, if you're ever in Nashville, tin roof is one to be in. And, you know, my wife was looking through four doors on the floor and she says, oh, he's the four doors that the woman took when we met Charlie Starr. I was like, all right, I was looking through them. You know, it's like, it's weird, like me going up to, like, shake Charlie Starr's hand in his hand and then we're checking hands and I looked at them and I was like, why is he staring at your tits? Well, on every one of these photos, every one of the interaction with me, shake and Charlie's hands. Charlie Starr's hand, you know, how are we doing Mr Starr? He was staring at my wife's tits. Yeah, but, yeah, I don't want it all to do against him. Mr Starr, because, you know, on the Saturday, we went to see Blackberry's market. They arrived on to Charlie and it was fantastic. One of the greatest venues I've ever been to in my life. Yeah, after like a big massive bender at the start, we sort of did take it easy after that. He would hang out a lot around that kid Roxbar. That was a 23-hour party and that was a bit crazy as well. I met some amazing people that will shout out to the family of books ones that we were sitting next to him in the diner. I hope he is at a brilliant time like we did. And the dude at the Blackberry Smoke Gig, who was at Packer's Fund, if buying as a beer, when he found out he was my birthday, I thank him very much. You know, 16 bucks a beer. Yeah, well, really, you didn't want anyone to buy it, but, you know, the amount of people, basically what happened, this woman from Texas found out that it was my birthday on the day of the gig and she taught the full sort of block that we were in, that it was my birthday and everyone just bought us a drink. He was absolutely crazy. And I would intend to really wasn't to get that drunk because, you know, it was quite hard early on and yeah, I don't know what a mess we were in. Oh, good fun. I think my wife was saying that I ended up with a lot of the card dogs in my face, like Wolverine's clothes at one point, after that. Yeah, what happens? But anyways, hmm, all back, all rested, back in some sort of routine. Yeah, not fully back to normal, but back into something. So let's get back to the business and, unfortunately, first little business that is over the last 24 hours is the death of Kyrai Jackson and, you know, he was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the fourth round of this year's draft and it had died in a car crash. Yeah, 24 hours ago, he spent two years at the University of Alabama for playing his final season at the University of Oregon in 2023. And that's just sad to hear, you know, those guys, you know, just got drafted, started with Kyrai and then just, yeah, just horrible. Yeah, they're, you know, fought to go out to Kyrai Jackson's family and loved ones. This is an horrible time, really. So, moving on, what I'm going to bring you is today is my top 10 player, well, it's not really my top 10, to be fair. I've got so many of these lists that they're, you know, a little bit juggling about with them and you move from one list to another type of list because I've got that many different ways. Born this episode's planned for this and this is my top 10 player versus player rivalries. So there've been no quarter bucks versus quarter bucks. I've already done an episode on quarterback rivalries. There've been no players against teams or team versus teams. These are just players versus players. And we'll start this off at number 10 of my player versus player rivaling with Darryl Revise of the New England Patriots and Richard Sherman of the Seattle Seahawks and corner bucks, you know, the brush, augmentive, you know, relentless and nature. Sometimes those traits can be extended beyond the football field and Darryl Revise and Richard Sherman that didn't need to be rivals. You know, the two played in different conferences for most of the careers never shared the field since the both played the same position but however, instead, Eagles made it difficult for the two to coexist. Revise was the best corner on the planet at the start of the 2010s with the New York Jets and a couple of years later, Sherman would challenge his status as a member of the Seattle Seahawks and both publicly claimed to be better than the other, which made for a compelling story when Revise who moved to the Patriots and Sherman met in Super Bowl 49. And although the two were never on the field at the same time, you know, he could not have got a bit out of hand when Reeves gave up a touchdown to Duke Baldwin and Sherman who was mocking him from the sidelines. But, you know, Reeves, of course, at the last laugh as Patriots took the victory 28-24. And even after Revise retirement, you know, the two continued to trade, trade jobs on social media. You know, the two best corners of 2010s made never belly the archer in the stubbornness and confidence that made them such great players. At number nine, Terrell Suggs of the Baltimore Revins and Tom Brady of the New England Patriots. Now, you know, Tom Brady was just too good for too long to only have one rival, really. And yeah, plus, you know, with the whole league just growing to despise him over the years for the fact that he just keeps on winning. And, you know, there's people out there who just disliked Brady and found him entitled and whiny. And the origins of this field goes back to at least 2010 when Brady grew frustrated that the Ravens, you know, specifically linebacker Terrell Suggs, wasn't getting called for his late hits. And there, you know, Suggs and Brady jarred out on the field. Suggs went on to a radio station to question Tom Brady's legacy and championship wins. It later said that he just didn't like Brady and went as far as avoidant saying his name during the interview. To point that, you know, in 2016, Suggs would only refer to Brady's rather the pretty point from up and off or the quarterback for the New England. The two were involved in several, several meetings over the years and, I think, for the off games. So yes, was this hatred from Brady from Suggs? You know, was it due to being the trend at the time? Rather, you know, he obviously couldn't stand them. He's quoted saying the guy's winning super balls and tape and super models. You know, it is when he, when the Ravens got to the Super Bowl, instead of, you know, enjoying the moment and living in the moment, he was posting videos on social media. Basically, he stickled one to Brady the fact that they didn't get there. And yeah, it's well safe to say that Terrell Suggs dislikes Tom Brady. At number eight, we'll go back to the fifties with this one with Jim Brown of the Cleveland Browns and Sam Hough of the New York Giants. And whenever the Giants played the Browns, it was Hough's job. Was to shatter Jim Brown. A job he did better than anyone else in the league. And during the stint in the fifties, where they had run a five consecutive games, where Hough had managed to hold Brown to under 50 yards in each of them games. But, you know, create some Hough once taunted Brown after a stoppage saying that you stink. Those other taunted people back in the fifties said you stink. But, you know, after the you stink taunted, he got rewarded with one of Brown's 65 yards touchdowns on the next player. And, you know, he taunted him back with, "How do I smell now Sam?" Hough described defending against Brown is all you can do is grab ahold, hang on, and wait for help. And, you know, Brown came back and said it was a personal thing. We played a four or three defense Tom Louchy said, "Jim Brown's your man." Jim Brown said, "Hough, I always say Sam got a famous photographer on me." You know, Vince Costello, Brown's middle linebacker, said she did. Jim Brown walked all over Hough. So, you know, it's been both. I've decided this one's there. So, I like it. But, I think they've got one over there each other. And, by chance, the stats would be equal 50/50. Number seven on my player versus player list is Bruce Smith versus Reggie Wight. Sorry about that. That was me. Robert trying to get up on a wooden floor. It's, oh, no. Where's he at? So, yeah. This, this, Bruce Smith versus Reggie Wight. It was all about production. Bruce Smith was the old time. Suck later, 200 and Reggie Wight was only two behind. Even though he played four fewer seasons, which particularly is down to me, said Bruce Smith played in a three-four scheme in which eight sacks per season average by a defensive end would be impressive. And, you know, in that scheme, he averaged over 10 a year for nearly 20 seasons. And Reggie Wight on the event was made famous, devastating swim move. And, was probably the best pure pass rusher in the history of the NFL. And, they both entered the league in 1985, to which is now known by the offensive coordinators as the year that shall not be named. And, as far as I know, there's like no bad blood between these two, but just looking at the two stats side by side, it does make for what is a great rivalry. Then, Bruce Smith has four seasons more than Reggie Wight. And, he's, Bruce Smith played 279 games to Wight's 232. But the sacks, I said before, there's only two difference in 200 sacks and 198 sacks. False Fumbles got 43 for Bruce Smith, 33 for Reggie Wight, tackles, 1,224 tackles for Smith, 1,111 for Wight. Pro Bowls, 11 for Smith, 13 for Wight, only the one Super Bowl calls to Wight. The Wards two times defensive player of the year for both of them, and both were inducted in the Hall of Fame, with their Bruce Smith in 2009 and Reggie Wight in 2006. And number six on my top 10 player versus player rivalries, you know, like number seven, got two players of the same position and we're going to do the running back position here with body Saunders and Emmett Smith, which I didn't even start with this one. Two of the most successful running backs of the 90s. So let's break down what we've got. We've got body Saunders. We had a unique electrifying and running style, is a jolly balance and ability change direction with defenders basically gasping for their over his 10-season career. Sanders average to an impressive five yards per curry and they're constantly made visits to the end zone. It's got in touch downs but, you know, fortunately for Sanders, he played mostly for losing mediocre teams, which makes his accomplishments even more remarkable, really. He retired out of early, out of respect of their vault opinion, leaving fans wondering what more he could have achieved. Then we have Emmett Smith. Smith with the workhorse's durability and consistency were unmatched. It ran behind a dominant cowboys offense line. Starts over 15 seasons. He carried the ball 267 times averaging 4.2 yards per curry. In his team situation, obviously, you know, unlike Sanders, Smith had the luxury of playing with Hall of Fame as like Troy Eggman and Michael Urban. The whole sea, the record for most Russian took down to 25 in a single season, in the 1995 season. So while Smith's numbers were padded by the carboys offense, Sanders pure talent chined through and if Sanders had played with the carboys, his stats would have likely been even more impressive. But ultimately, it's objective, but many consider Sanders the greatest running back of all time, due to his overwhelming ability and impacts that he had on the game. So who wins this one? Well, I think it's just a matter of personal preference, really. Both Hall of Fame is one's played, you know, for her championship winning teams, one's played for lower the division teams and, you know, it was sort of cut short with the early retirement. You know, well, what would have happened if it had just carried on? So number five in my top 10 player versus player rivalries get back to two dudes hitting each other and, you know, back to that guy again, Donald Ravis. This time, he's rivalry with Randy Moss. Now, this was a short but sweet rivalry and it was a close to personal battle between the wide saver and the quarterback position, as we've had, you know, we've had in a while. And I have not turned Ravis breakout 2009 season, which is performance against Randy Moss during which Ravi held Moss to a community of nine catches and 58 yards. You've got to touch down as well, but, you know, all the Moss to them numbers are pretty good. And this led, you know, to this back and forth where Randy Moss had said all week he's been talking about being a shut down corner, but they're really not shut down corners in the league because they get help most of the time. Ravis took exception and called Moss a slouch. He claimed he could break Moss. He could break Moss's will early and then as required by the designation of the names of Moss would give up. I prided my off season on staying off Ravi Island said Moss and, you know, he came out to say words don't really hurt me. So, you know, this is another rivalry that, you know, we deserve to see longer, really. You know, if it came up, if it went Moss 5 years, you won't go at all. You know, if Moss wasn't treated out, the division at the time there was, you know, and it got a few more years in it, but yeah, it was pretty good while I lost it. Number four, Aaron Rodgers versus Namu Kongsou. And frankly, Namu Kongsou as a lengthy list of rivals that could be in this list. It was like I said, I've got ball lists. And yeah, I'm sure Namu Kongsou is going to appear on those lists. But so it was, it was brain and nasty in the trenches. It became one of the best defensive tackles of his time. And however, the rage, the field, him doing the play, it often continued to push well after the whistle had blown. And as a result, Sue, who spent his first five seasons as a lion, a compiled numerous affines and penalties for his blatant introductions. And as the NFC, you know, an off rivalry between the Packers and the Lions, Aaron Rodgers vs Sue was rough twice a year regarding several dustups. Sue was suspended in 2014 for intentionally stepping on Rodgers' calf while he was on the ground. I think if he, he came out with some things that his feet were called and he didn't realize that he was standing on there, Aaron Rodgers, because he had cold feet or something. Yeah, he wouldn't appeal and was, he was firing 70,000 pounds instead. And then, you know, it's bad when he, when he left the league, he's really forgot for that. But then in 2020, and Rodgers came up again against their Sue and when he was playing for the Buccaneers. And you know, you can, you can, there's videos out there that say Sue and Rodgers haven't worked during the game. These Rodgers is clearly not happy with him. But then, soon later admitted that, you know, Rodgers was his favourite quarterback to hit. And for what it's worth, Rodgers never retaliated and soon more annoyed by Sue's antics rather than angry. You know, still the multiple back and forths between these two made for one of the most memorable rivalries of the 2010s. And number three on my play versus play list is Lin Swan versus George Atkinson. Now, this is between Pittsburgh Steelers and the Auckland Raiders in the 1970s. And without the safety precautions that are in place to dare, you know, like the Brady Roll that we mentioned before, where he can't follow through and you know, things to protect the players. The league then was essentially like the Wild West. And many of the hits that would get players suspended today weren't only just allowed, but encouraged, I've covered this back in, in some of my other rivalry episodes as well. And George Atkinson, who played safety, took full advantage of this. Going out of his way to take Swan, one of the best wide outs of his either out of the game, was basically taking him out of the game. Atkinson knocked Swan out of two games, including the 1976 season opener, where Swan had to be stretched off the field. At this point, the rivalry extended to the entire Steelers organization. Pittsburgh's legendary coach Chuck Knoll referred to Atkinson and the Raiders as the criminal element of the NFL, eventually leading to the deformation lawsuit filled by Atkinson. It's unclear if Atkinson had any motives beyond just wanting to help his team win the game, but whether it was a, whether it was personal, component, or do the excuse, his interactions. Number two, Real Lewis vs Eddie George, and Eddie George was a massive punishing run-and-back, and Real Lewis was a vicious powerful linebacker. The force generated by these two colliding was enough to create a black wall, and the passion Lewis and George played with made them sworn enemies on the field. George's Tennessee Titans and Lewis's Balmora Revan squared off in the play in the postseason multiple times, with both players having their signature moments. Lewis intercepted a pass, then had bounced off George's back, and they were returning for a touchdown during the 2000 divisional round. Eddie George played through a dislocated shoulder to take down Baltimore in the wild car round of the 2003 season. Today, Lewis and George are friends, and have stated their respect for one another, but on the field, these two natural predators who viewed the other as a formidable prayer. And my number one in this list of my player vs player rivalries was to Jerry Rice as his Dion Sanders. Hey, have you ever used cheapo air? For years, and I really like it. Rice was considered a low-key receiver who let his game do the talking. He wasn't over flashy player or athlete. He was every cliché he used to describe a blue-collar player. Incredibly intelligent, hard-working, tenacious, technically sound and tough. Saunders was at the other end of the spectrum. In addition to being one of the greatest athletes of the game, to ever play the game, primetime was the ultimate sureman, who relished in his opportunity to remind the world of his greatness. The stark contrast in both players and personalities made for this intriguing dynamic, whereas Rice and Saunders knew no equal at their position, which made their matchup one of the biggest sauce of competition available. The two locked horns ten times in their career, and it was must-see TV every time. Rice and Saunders played together for a single season in San Francisco, winning the Super Bowl before Saunders left to join their Dallas Cowboys. Today Saunders and Rice have spoken very highly virtual, and it seems that the rivalry was spread out with respect of each other, and all the luminosity has mainly strictly football-related. So there you have my top ten player rivalries. Or should I say a top ten list of NFL rivalries? I think there's not many of these that it's hard to put one at the top, one anywhere. This is just really a list of ten rivalries that I like, and I've got massive lists of those that I've been bringing out as bonus episodes every now and then. So my, you know, let's go through the order. We've got number ten, Daddle Revis versus Richard Sherman. Number nine, Teddle Subs versus Tom Brady. Number eight, Jim Brown versus Sam Hoof. Number seven, Bruce Smith versus Reggie White. Number six, Bali Saunders versus Emmett Smith. And number five, Daddle Revis versus Randy Moss. And number four, and Rogers versus Noamu Kansu. Number three, Lin Swan versus George Atkinson. Number two, Real Lewis versus Eddie George. And number three, Jerry Rice versus Dion Saunders. So as I've said before at the start, I'm sort of back to me normal routines. So next week I will be getting back to team rivalries, and I'm going to start, you know, I've done one of every division rivalry so far. I'm now going to start look into conference rivalries within the conference. There'll be four episodes of that, and then another double, another bonus episode. Also, something I have been working on for quite a bit over the last month, so I'm going to start streaming my gameplay on Twitch. You can find me on Twitch under the name Grim, on the score, on the score Reefer. And basically, I'm on there pretty much every night for a few hours just while I'm trying to set this up properly because I want to get it going round about the season start. And, you know, when the new man comes out, that's where I want to start streaming it. If anybody, you know, wants to jump in and play games with us on it, it's more than welcome. I'll look up at setting some we have maybe doing a league or tournament with anyone if they're up for things like that. So there's a little bit of things coming in the pipeline that I'm hoping to get all the little bits of, and I need to iron out to get it working properly. I mean, at the minute, pretty much every night for a couple hours, I'm on there just trying to tweak it, to get it to work is how I want it. So, you know, if you're on Twitch, you know, pop by and if you see his own, just go in the chat and say hello, I've got the mic working, I don't have the camera. But I say all that, I'm hoping to get ready before the season starts. Also, if any of yous are interested in wrestling, I'll be here when the new WWE game gets released. I will probably be starting streaming that as well. At the minute, I'm just streaming a game that I play called Arc, which is a survival game where you're dumped on an island in your underpants. Literally, that's all you know, at your underpants. And you have to survive by making stuff like tools out of storms and bits of wood. And the only thing is, all these islands are prohibited by dinosaurs. So, I mean, to be fair, I'm doing quite good at surviving. I've got a big pigeon thing that I ride around on, and I've got a, you know, a couple of carnivars that can round and eat people. And it's good, it's a good laugh. So yeah, if you're on Twitch or around there, just pop in and say hello. And if you want to get involved once I start doing modern streams and the WWE streams, then yeah, just hit me up. So with that being said, I will be back next week with a conference rivalry. I haven't decided which one I'm going to do. Yeah, I've got it. I've got my lists of one. I'm just going to pick one. And, and yeah, all of you is called for a good rest of your week. And remember, peace is free and stay flat. Stay flat. Hey, have you ever used cheapo air? For years, and I really like it.
