In the last few days, we have seen some new additions to the core docket in the Brian Coburger investigation and all of these warrants have to do with Brian Coburger's social media activity. And we've went over a couple of these warrants already. We've looked at the Google warrant, we have the Reddit warrant, and of course the ones from previously. But there are a few more that have been added to the docket as well that we're going to get to over the weekend. But before we get there, we have an article from ABC News talking about these most recent court filings. So, let's dive into this article and let's see what's going on. Headline - Investigators probe Brian Coburger's social media in connection with Idaho College murders. This article was authored by Sasha, Peznik, and Julie Scott. Investigators are probing the digital footprint of Brian Coburger, the suspect accused of killing four Idaho college students in early morning attack last year according to new court documents. And a lot of this is what we expected. We knew that his whole entire life was going to be aired out, especially as digital footprint. Previously, we had seen over 60 warrants filed under seal of a digital nature. So it shows you if you're paying attention what the blueprint is for the prosecution and how they plan on getting Brian Coburger and it's going to be a digital investigation. When you add to that digital information that they've uncovered, all of the other stuff, all of the tying factors, and Brian Coburger is in a position where I don't see him having a valid defense. In fact, I have a feeling it's going to look a lot like Alex Murdoch. All sorts of bluster before the trial starts. And then when the trial gets here, it's a whole different ball of wax. Like I said with Murdoch, right from the beginning, I thought that dude was guilty. Even with Brian Coburger, I get the same feels. When I look at all of the evidence that's been compiled, it's very difficult not to see the writing on the wall here. The documents include search warrant applications for some of Coburger's internet activity and some additional phone records as well as some of the four victims social media accounts. There is probable cause to believe that those records could yield evidence regarding the November killings of Kalegan solvus, Xanakarnodal, Ethan Chapin, and Madison Mogan at the girls off campus home in Moscow, Idaho, the documents say. Though they do not reveal details of what the warrants obtained, the records indicate that prosecutors have launched an expansive examination of Coburger's activities online as they probe the suspects possible connection to the victims and the crimes he is accused of committing. You know what's going to come back, right? That he was following them on Instagram, that he was DMing them on Instagram, all the stuff we heard from people is going to come back validated because I have no doubt this idiot was following them on social media and he probably saw Maddie the first time at the Mad Greek. Is that so out of character that people wouldn't believe? That's scenario? For me, it seems like the most likely scenario. Of course he could have run across them somewhere else, but to think that the Mad Greek doesn't play a part in this investigation, as far as what the investigators are looking for, I think that's a bit foolish and the owner of the Mad Greek who came out so adamantly talking about how the reports were wrong, well, she's not going to look so great later on down the road when it comes out that those reports were actually true. And she didn't need to come out as forcefully as she did, she could have just simply said no comment, but she had to come out with a whole rigmarole about how all the employers are on board, how do you know? Did you sit down with every employee and talk to them individually? So for me, I never really put too much stock in what the owner of the Mad Greek had to say. The case has only just begun once you make an arrest, said Robert Boyce, an ABC News contributor and retired Chief of Detectives in the New York Police Department. You want to see what he was looking up, you want to know what he was saying, whether under his own name or under an assumed name on these platforms. They want to establish a state of mind who he talks to and what he talks about, Boyce said, there could be probative materials here, 100%. Everybody leaves a gigantic digital footprint these days and there's going to be breadcrumbs about what you were up to online, no matter how safe you are or how private you try to be when you get one of these forensic investigators digging around in your life and they're drawn warrants on you, sending them out to Reddit and Facebook, oh, they're going to come back with some digital information about what you were up to. So for all the people out there that want to say, there is no connection between Brian Coburger and these girls, well, how do you know that? You don't know what's going on behind the scenes, but these filings do give us a bit of an idea and in the manner in which these warrants have been drawn and the information that they're searching for in these warrants, it tells you that they're trying to build a very robust online profile of Brian Coburger's activity. And then they're going to use all of that to link him to these girls. And of course, all of that will be unfurled during the trial. Just like we saw in the Lori Valo trial with all of the spreadsheets and the Excel documents, what's going to happen and they're going to put it all together and tie it up in a nice pretty bow and hand it to the jury. And then the jury is going to take a look at it. And if all of this evidence holds up, I don't think the jury is going to take too much time deliberating Brian Coburger's fate, the same way we saw them come back with a relatively quick verdict in the Lori Valo trial. I would expect the same here because there's that kind of evidence in this case as well. We're talking about a mountain of evidence here and not only just circumstantial, we're talking about DNA evidence. The Laetau County prosecutor's office, leading the case against Coburger, did not reply to request from ABC News for comment. Coburger 28 was indicted last month on charges, including four counts of first degree murder and one count of burglary. At his arraignment last week, Coburger declined to offer a plea so the judge entered a not guilty plea on his behalf. A trial date was set for October 2nd. Prosecutors alleged that in the early morning hours of November 13, 2022, Coburger, a PhD student at Washington State's University Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology, broke into an off-campus home and stabbed to death four University of Idaho students. Ethan Chapin, Madison Mogin, Zanna Cernodel and Kaylee Gonsalves. After a more than six-week hunt, police zeroed in on Coburger as a suspect, tracking his white Hyundai Elantra cell phone signal data and recovering what authorities say was his DNA on a knife sheath found next to one of the victim's bodies, according to court documents. He was arrested on December 30 in Pennsylvania after driving cross-country to spend the holidays at his family's home in all Brightsville, Pennsylvania. The murder weapon has not been recovered, authorities have said, and I doubt that they'll ever be able to find that murder weapon. Brian Coburger probably got rid of it on that drive home. Remember he took that long way home? Took the detour, so probably had a burn pit, probably had an area where he got rid of whatever evidence that could be traced back to that murder scene. Why would he keep the knife? Why would he keep any of that other stuff? Now of course, there are serial killers and weirdos out there who do keep weapons and they have mementos and all of that. But I don't think that Brian Coburger kept that knife. I think he got rid of it after he did what he did, and I highly doubt that the investigators are ever going to find it. Among the new documents are search warrant applications for Coburger's accounts on Reddit, Google, and TikTok, as well as the four victims Snapchat accounts and additional records from AT&T. Investigators obtained information from the suspect's Reddit account this spring, including his public posts and private messages with other users. Saved files and photos and location data court documents show. And you know what else we're going to find out? We're going to find out about this whole Papa Roger thing as well. You know, Jennifer Koffendaffer has talked about how Papa Roger, the dude that was posting on social media, could be Brian Coburger. And I never believe that it was. And I still don't believe that it was Brian Coburger posting under that alias. But in these digital documents, we're going to get a good look. And if Coburger was using any sort of alias or other handle, we're going to know about that come trial time. Publishers had also previously obtained records from Kalegan Solvis Reddit account earlier court filing show. And we have posted all of that. Everything that has been previously docketed, everything that has been uploaded as far as the warrants go. We have that all updated in the catalog already. So these newer warrants that we're talking about now are the ones that just hit the docket. In the affidavit for Coburger's arrest, officials noted he had previously posted a Reddit survey, which asked for participants to provide information to understand how emotions and psychological traits influence decision making when committing a crime. Imagine dudes out here making this post on Reddit, why don't I go and get the opinion of the criminal community before I decide to go and murder for people? Talk about an absolute tool. Parker's Google account investigators, according to the new filings, have also pulled extensive records of emails including drafts and trash, hangouts and chats including photos, his Google Drive including documents, spreadsheets, presentations and files and associated metadata. The warrant also obtained information about his search and browsing history, calendar events and contacts, Google Play purchases, along with his Google Pay transactions, core documents show. You want to develop a profile of them, in your case, sometimes a psychological profile, boy said. They want to put the knife in that sheath because they don't have it right now. So you want to see if he bought it somewhere online. You're looking at credit card receipts he added. The more evidence you can put before a judge, the better you've got. And we saw that K-Bar had a warrant, we saw that Blue Ridge knives had a warrant, so they're going ham. And there's a lot of talk that the Amazon warrant was for the knife purchase. Now we can't confirm that because the gag order, but there is certainly that talk. Investigators also obtained additional AT&T records for a subscriber unknown at this time for the specific time period of June 23rd, 2022 to August 1st, 2022, including any messages records, files, logs or information that have been deleted but are still available, including cell tower pings that transmitted outgoing and incoming calls. Investigators previously used cell tower data to link Kohlberger to the killings crime scene, core documents show, and not just once, but over 12 times. So he's going to have to explain all of it. And it sounds great when you are trying to make that defense online to some other contrarian, but when you're sitting in front of a jury who is not interested in your narrative only the truth, well, things become a whole lot more complex and Brian Kohlberger is going to find that out very soon. Records from Strava, an internet service which allows users to track their physical exercise and share their performance on social networks, were also obtained, filing show, including biometric information like exercise data, session logs, geolocation data, contacts and photos, names and accounts obtained were redacted, but the search warrant application says there is information related to the investigation into the student's killing. Of course, all of this stuff is going to come together and build their foundation. This is how they're building their case. One step at a time, one warrant at a time, one digital profile at a time. Records related to the four victim snapchat accounts were also obtained according to the documents, including communications or other messages sent or received by the accounts, logs of previous snaps, stories and chats, and all records pertaining to communications between snapchat and any person regarding the user or the user's snapchat accounts, including contacts with support services and all records of actions taken, including suspensions of the account. There's a lot to this case, technology wise, it's an evolving and changing field, but it's the best evidence you have, because it's irrefutable, unbiased, human error free, boy said. It may not be a knockout punch, but there could be overwhelming circumstantial evidence. And I agree with that 100%. There's not one piece of evidence that is the knockout punch, if you will. But when you put it all together, it's like getting pieced up by somebody like Floyd Mayweather. Oh, you're getting hit with a couple of punches, and before you know it, the big shot comes that you're not looking for, and it's only a matter of time before they land that big shot. I'm Brian Kohlberger. All right, folks, that's going to do it for this one. All of the information that goes with the episode can be found in the description box.
