ICYMI: Attorney John Ray Says He Doubts The Narrative Being Pitched By Investigators

Attorney John Ray has been very clear since the arrest of Rex Heuermann: He thinks that Rex Heuermann's wife, Asa Ellerup knew what he was up to and that she might have even participated in some of the depraved acts.

He brought his new evidence to a symposium that he hosted where he spoke for over four hours about the murders and the investigation that followed.

In this episode, we get an update from Gilgo Beach and see where things currently stand.

Ever since Rex Uerman was arrested and charged with being the Long Island serial killer, one of the attorneys for some of the victims, John Ray, has had a whole lot to say about Rex Uerman and the crimes that he has been alleged to commit. And according to John Ray, there's a whole lot more to this story than we're aware of. And he says that he has witnesses and other people who have come forward with information that he says blows the whole entire narrative out of the water. So let's dive into this article from the US sun and let's see what the hell's going on here. Headline. Circle of suspicion. List lawyer cast out on Rex Uerman's family being out of town during murders as he cites bombshell new evidence. Earlier this month, prosecutors said that they believed Uerman's wife and kids were in Atlantic City when Maureen Brainerd Barnes was murdered in 2007. This article was authored by Luke Kenton. Officials investigating accused Long Island serial killer Rex Uerman should take a closer look at his wife's movements after new evidence may contradict claims. She was away with her kids when at least one of the alleged murders was committed. A lawyer says, so Mr. Ray has been very adamant that there's a lot more to this than we know about. And according to him, Rex Uerman's wife Asa Ellarup knows more than the authorities are letting on. So the question really becomes, how much truth is John Ray telling us? Because if what he is asserting is true, then this is a whole different kind of case. During a symposium in New York on Tuesday night, attorney John Ray shared new evidence that he believes calls into question whether Rex Uerman's wife and their two children were out of town when he's alleged to have killed Maureen Brainerd Barnes in July of 2007. Huwerman was charged with the murder of Brainerd Barnes earlier this month. Brainerd Barnes, a petite sex worker, was last heard from on the night of July 9th, 2007 when she told a friend that she was going to meet a John on an outcall. The 25-year-old was reported missing five days later. Her body was eventually found on a remote stretch of beachfront Parkway on Long Island in December of 2010 next to the remains of three other women, Melissa Bartholomew, Meghan Waterman, and Amber Lynn Costello, all of whom Huwerman has also been accused of murdering. And as far as I'm concerned, there is a lot more. Now, I can't prove that, right? But when you look at Rex Huwerman and you look at these crimes and if he's guilty of these four, do you really think that's where it stopped? He only has four victims and he decided that that was enough. Certainly doesn't seem like that kind of guy. In fact, if I had to bet if I was putting money down on this, then I'd say that Rex Huwerman has many more bodies and my guess is in many more states. Huwerman's wife, Aisa Ellarub, has not been accused of any wrongdoing and she has denied any knowledge of her husband's alleged crimes in various statements issued through her attorney. So she has been adamant, right? That she has no idea what happened here. And early on, I was more than willing to give her the benefit of the doubt, but as this is progressed and we found out about the documentary and some other things, my level of empathy for Aisa Ellarub has basically completely evaporated. In court documents filed in mid-January, District Attorney Ray Tierney wrote that travel in cell phone records previously established that Ellarub and her two children were out of the state when Bartholomew, Waterman, and Costello all disappeared. Additionally, Tierney claimed that further investigation, including the recovery of a bank statement and testimony given by Ellarub herself indicated that she and her children were also out of the state when Brainerd Barnes was killed. The bank statement showed charges for three different hotels in Atlantic City, New Jersey on or about July 6th, 2007, through on or about July 20th, 2007, court documents read, and you know, all this talk about Atlantic City and the fact that it's obvious he had ties there. I don't know how the hell they've ruled him out of the Atlantic City Strangler, the East Side Strangler. All the hallmarks are there, right? But the authorities have said that Rex Heurman has nothing to do with it. But with all these ties to Atlantic City, I would hope that they have something concrete telling them that he wasn't involved and they're not just assuming that. Summarizing their findings, prosecutors wrote, based on the foregoing, the murders of all four victims occurred at times when defendant Heurman's wife and children were traveling out of state, which allowed defendant Heurman unfettered time to execute his plans for each victim without any fear that his family would uncover or learn of his involvement in these crimes. During his symposium held at St. John University on Tuesday, Ray questioned the evidence and called the phrasing on or about listed in the document most curious. The attorney, who has long called for Ellarup to be investigated as a potential suspect, claimed he has received information that Ellarup and her children may have checked into their hotel in Atlantic City later than they claim to investigators. So that's interesting, right? And what do we say about big claims? Big claims need big evidence. So hopefully John Ray has that evidence. On the bank statement cited in court documents, a transaction for $37.45 at the flagship hotel is highlighted in a red square. The transaction date was July 14th, 2007 and was posted on July 17th. Printed beneath the transaction are the words arrival date 7607. There are two other charges for hotels listed on the bank statement, one for the skyline tower with a listed arrival date of July 13th. The date of humans believed arrival in Atlantic City and with the transaction date of July 20th and the posting date of July 23rd. The remaining hotel charge was made at the Tropicana Casino with an arrival date of July 19th. Upon further investigation, Ray said he was able to determine that each of the three properties the human stayed at were all time shares rather than traditional hotels. Time share as he claimed, allow people to come and go undetected more easily. Well, he's not wrong about that. When you're at a hotel, everything's being monitored, right? There's cameras in the hallways, there's cameras everywhere. At a time share, while there's probably some CCTV, it's not as much of a, you know, recognize who's coming and going. Somebody's down at the front desk of a hotel, you know, they check you in all that jazz, they're gonna remember you. At a time share, you just show up and do your thing. He further claimed to have spoken to the manager of the flagship hotel very recently, who raised questions about Ellorub's check-in date. While the arrival date listed on Huerman's bank statement, read July 7th, 2007, two days before Brainerd Barnes vanished, the manager allegedly told Ray that Ellorub didn't check in until July 17th. He said the manager who I spoke to over the phone looked up the stay of Miss Ellorub and the time that there was, and she looked it up and read it to us twice to make sure of what she was reading. And not only was she able to tell us their names, she was able to tell us the amount of the charge, which was $37.45, and she said, yes, they stayed here, from July 17th, 2007, until July 23rd. She had no reason to lie, and if that's true, if those words are correct, then the district attorney is not right, and a say Ellorub was not a way on July 7th, 8th, July 9th, and July 10th, and so on. Ray added that the manager of the hotel was perplexed that an arrival date was listed on Huerman's bank statement, apparently claiming to have never heard of such a thing before, noting that hairs belonging to Ellorub and Victoria were found on or near each of the Gilgo 4, Ray urged investigators to take a closer look at the family once again. And Ray has been adamant about this now since the very beginning. He has said that he has talked to people, numerous people about a say Ellorub and about this situation, and he says that the narrative that's being pitched by the officials just isn't true. These things are important. They need to be considered declared, Ray. They belong in the circle of suspicion because they told the DA a story that doesn't match the records. And that's the truth. If you tell the DA or the investigators a story that doesn't match up, you're gonna be looked at sideways. They're gonna have some questions for you. Ellorub's attorney, Bob Massadonio and district attorney Ray Tierney have been contacted for comment regarding Ray's remarks. Victoria Huerman's attorney, Vasmitev, called Ray's remarks on hinged, straw grasping claims that are conclusively disproved by factual evidence, disproved by factual evidence. This is a sad and shameful, Huxterish attempt at grasping at the limelight beams by someone who ought to know better. Charge Mitev, speaking with the US son after the symposium, John Ray, he said he hasn't alerted Tierney to his findings, adding you're the first ones to hear it tonight. Ellorub's attorney has previously issued a blanket refusal to comment on any accusations made by Ray, telling the US son last year, "I won't dignify anything John Ray has to say "with a response." Victoria Huerman, who worked for her father, was tailed by investigators in May, 2023, less than two months before her father's arrest. As they surreptitiously obtained a DNA sample from her, using a monster energy can, she discarded in a trash can. Prosecutors have never accused her of wrongdoing. That DNA was later used to tie Rex Huerman to the murders of the Gilgo IV. Mitev previously told the US son, that Victoria and her older half-brother, Christopher, had been left distraught by the allegations made against their father. "They are adrift in a torrential sea," he said. They're being hit with wave after wave of incredibly challenging and disquieting news on a minute-by-minute basis. Well, they seem to be standing behind Rex Huerman, going to court, doing a documentary, making a few bucks. So, like I said earlier, my empathy for them has completely dried up. Bray's symposium lasted for four hours on Tuesday, which much of was spent arguing that Shannon Gilbert, whose family he represents, and whose 2010 disappearance led to the discovery of the Gilgo IV, was murdered and the Suffolk County Police Department's handling of her case, Shambolic. Gilbert went missing on Oak Beach in May of 2010. She was found dead in 2011. Police have ruled her death the likely result of an accidental drowning. However, her official autopsy results were inconclusive. So, there are several different theories about what happened to Shannon Gilbert. And I'm not too sure which one is true, but I think it has to do with a mental break and her suffering one while this was all going down. Now, was that brought on by drugs that somebody gave to her or whatever? I don't know. But I don't think that she was a victim, per se, of the Gilgo Beach serial killer. Ray and Gilbert's family believe she was murdered and an independent autopsy conducted by a fan pathologist, Dr. Michael Boden suggested possible strangulation. He accused Suffolk County cops of attempting to cover up the crime alleging rampant historical corruption within the department's ranks. During a press conference last year, he shared new witness testimony, establishing a possible link between Huerman and Gilbert. He also shared additional testimony, linking the accused serial killer to another sex worker, Karen Vergotta, who was murdered and dismembered in 1996. One of the tips came from a self-identified swinger who apparently attended a sex party at Huerman's home with her NYPD cop lover and a sex worker named Karen, believed to be Vergotta, in February 1996, around the time she's believed to have been killed. - Ryan Seacrest here. - When you have a busy schedule, it's important to maximize your downtime. The tipster identified only as Lorraine, spoke publicly for the first time on Tuesday night and was tearful when she recounted her alleged interactions with Huerman and his wife, Asa. The second tipster was a cab driver who believed she had two run-ins with Huerman, including one in 2009, when she claims to have picked up a crying Gilbert from a motel that she had been lured to allegedly by Huerman. There are probably other murders and victims in other places for which he is responsible that we just haven't found yet. Ray told the US sun at the time, how many? I don't know, there's no real way to know and there's probably a very high possibility that there were others who were abused but weren't killed who were terrorized by him or people he was connected to. And all of that tracks, I think all of that is true. I think there's other victims out there and I think that in Las Vegas, the Las Vegas four that we've discussed before, I think that they're the likeliest of victims to love Rex Huerman outside of the state of New York. One woman claimed to have shared an odd drug-fueled encounter with a man she believes to be Huerman in Pennsylvania in 2010 when she was 18 years old. In a sworn statement, the woman claimed, Huerman invited her to his hotel room to snort cocaine. She said she did not have sex with Huerman and spent the entirety of their encounter trying to avoid his touch. At one stage, the woman claimed Huerman asked her to tell him about her youngest friends and shared paedophilic fantasies about young girls and boys. That tracks too. All you have to do is look at this idiot's Google search. She claimed that she was later taken by Huerman to a home with no furniture except for two lawn chairs and a TV that was playing an adult film. When she tried to leave Huerman, allegedly locked and blocked the door forcing her to attempt a taserum. She claimed to eventually let her leave and she fled the property on foot calling a cab from a nearby gas station. Another woman identified by the pseudonym Mary Poe, claimed in an affidavit to have been working as a sex worker in New York in 1994 when a man she believes to be Rex Huerman attempted to shoot her in his car. The shot missed and Mary Poe got into an altercation with the gunman before fleeing the vehicle. She was left with burn marks on the side of her neck and immediately reported the incident to the police. Ray said he was able to confirm the woman's police report and shared pictures of her injuries. A third woman claimed to have been chased by Huerman while she was out jogging in the woods in Virginia. Ray closed his remarks by reaffirming his belief that the investigation into Huerman needs to be expanded and taken out of Suffolk County's hands. He said it's clear that the Gilgo Beach Task Force is not big enough, strong enough, organized enough to handle all these cases that are multi-state. We have to get a much bigger look from the federal end. We need the FBI and the United States Attorney to step in, which is why I started this case back in 2011. And I think that if you want to find out if this man was active across the nation, then that's the only way to do it, right? You have to have a federal task force. Police departments across the country are investigating Huerman in connection with various cold cases, including Las Vegas and South Carolina. In September, the US son exclusively revealed that additionally Huerman was being investigated in connection with the murder of Carmen Vargas, another sex worker strangled and discarded at the side of the road in Freeport, New York in 1989. Ray has also consistently called for Huerman's wife to be investigated as a potential accomplice to Huerman. Her hair was found on her near three of her husband's alleged victims, but police have stressed she is not suspected of any wrongdoing. Through her attorney, Bob Mastindonio, Ella Rupp has also directly denied any involvement in the murders and told the US son in September that she was left so shocked and disoriented by her husband's arrest that she didn't know where she was for weeks on end afterwards. Well, I guess she knew where she was enough to sign on for that documentary, huh? However, two of Ray's tipsters claim she was aware of her husband's frequent patronizing of sex workers and even allegedly partook in some of his non-violent sexual exploits herself. Ray said he doesn't know how it's possible to ignore or refuse to investigate Ella Rupp in light of the purported evidence he's uncovered. He also accused Ella Rupp of engaging in illicit cooperation with Huerman, pointing to a D transfer of the couple's $530,000 rundown home into her name as supporting evidence of his beliefs. The deed was filed in September and sole ownership was handed to Ella Rupp for $0. Huerman originally purchased the home from his parents in 1994 for $170,000. It was most recently valued at $530,000 record show. Ray accused Huerman of concocting a scam to defraud creditors, including families of the victims who may later file lawsuits all to benefit the Ella Rupp's financially. Looming trial, Ella Rupp has visited her husband behind bars on at least one occasion since his arrest and intends to attend the entirety of his forthcoming trial to assess the evidence for herself, her attorney previously said. I mean, okay, I guess, but I think the evidence is pretty clear. She is also currently filming a tell-all documentary for Peacock, which she's reported to have been paid $1 million to take part in. That's why she's going. That's the only reason she's showing up. If not, she'd be keeping her contact with Huerman on the hush hush. But since she's getting this big bag, yeah, I'll show up to the trial. I'll show up there and have people look at me as long as you're giving me a million dollars to do so. Meanwhile, the families of the victims, they're not getting anything. News of the deal drew the ire of family members of some of her husband's alleged victims who accused her of profiting off their trauma. Lawmakers in New York are now lobbying to make such deals illegal in the future by updating the state son of Sam Law. Huerman, meanwhile, remains in custody without bond, six months on from his arrest. He has pleaded not guilty at all charges and is due to reappear in court on February 6th. All right, so there's where things currently stand where Rex Huerman and his trial and the investigation into his crimes and the new evidence that's been presented by attorney John Ray. So will this turn into anything? As far as Asa Ellorup facing any charges? As of now, no, but according to John Ray, that could all change.
