Beyond The Horizon

A Fake Virus Extortion Plot Goes Left And An Update On Accused Killer James Craig (6/21/24)

Stefan Alexandru Barabas was involved in a home invasion and extortion scheme in South Kent, Connecticut, on April 15, 2007. Along with Emanuel Nicolescu, Alexandru Nicolescu, and Michael N. Kennedy (also known as Nicolae Helerea), Barabas broke into a home, masked and armed, and injected the residents with a substance they claimed was lethal, demanding $8.5 million for the antidote. When the victims couldn't comply, the intruders drugged them with sleeping pills and fled in the homeowner's Jeep, which they abandoned the next day.

The investigation linked Barabas and his accomplices through DNA evidence, cell phone records, and a connection to an accordion case containing items used in the crime. Barabas was a fugitive until his arrest, years later, as part of a broader investigation that saw his co-conspirators convicted and sentenced to lengthy prison terms.

James Toliver Craig is a dentist from Aurora, Colorado, who was arrested for the alleged murder of his wife, Angela Craig, through poisoning. James Craig, 45, was taken into custody on March 19, 2023, and charged with first-degree murder. His arrest followed Angela Craig's death after she experienced severe health issues attributed to poisoning by cyanide and tetrahydrozoline, an ingredient found in Visine.

According to court documents, Angela Craig fell ill several times before her death, exhibiting symptoms consistent with poisoning. James Craig was found to have purchased toxic substances, including arsenic and potassium cyanide, and had used his office computer to research undetectable poisons. Investigations revealed that he ordered these chemicals under the pretext of using them for medical research and dental procedures.

Further complicating the case, it was discovered that James Craig was in communication with another woman during the period of his wife's illness, suggesting a possible motive related to an extramarital affair. Additionally, while in jail, Craig faced new charges of solicitation to commit tampering with physical evidence, as he allegedly tried to persuade someone to interfere with the investigation.

In this episode, we have a couple of articles to get to. The first one is from Law and Crime, and it has to do with a dude who broke into someone's house, injected to people with a fake virus, and then demanded millions of dollars to supply them with the antidote. And in our second article, we're going to spin over to Colorado, and we're going to get an update on James Craig, the dentist who allegedly killed his wife. So, let's dive into our first article from Law and Crime, and let's see what sort of stupidity awaits us. Headline, home invader injected to with faux deadly virus, demanding millions to supply the antidote. This article was authored by Jerry Lamb, a 33-year-old man in Connecticut this week admitted to his role in a home invasion during which he injected two people with what he claimed was a deadly virus, and demanded they pay millions for the antidote or be left to die. Now, can you imagine some buffoon? And if you see the picture of this dude, you'll see what I mean. This guy crawling into your house and saying he injected you with some kind of virus? Bad enough, I have to look at your ugly ass face. Now you shot me up with some kind of bullshit? That has to be terrifying, and then to demand millions of dollars? Yeah, sure, let me go under the couch cushions and let me pull out a few mil for you. Stefan, Alexandra Barnabas, a Romanian native, appeared in US District Court in Connecticut on Tuesday where he pleaded guilty to his role in the home invasion, faux virus scheme, authorities announced, and like at what point did this become a good idea? Oh, you know what, I got a great idea, Steve. Why don't we come up with a stupid-ass plan where we break into someone's house and we inject them with a fake virus and we try and get millions from them? Because, you know, that sounds like a home run ass lick. Forget breaking into somebody's house and injecting them with some kind of fake virus, these idiot should be locked up for stupidity. According to the news release from the Department of Justice, shortly before midnight on April 15th, 2007, Barabas and his accomplices, Emmanuel Nicolescu and Alexandra Lucien Nicolescu wore masks and I broke into the home in South Kent, Connecticut. All three men were brandishing knives and airsoft guns that appeared to be real firearms. Emmanuel and Alexandra Lucien Nicolescu were both convicted of felonies in the bizarre case, along with a fourth accomplice, Michael and Kennedy, who provided the transportation to the South Kent home and picked the three men up afterwards. The men bound and blindfolded to adult victims and injected each with a substance the intruder's claimed was a deadly virus. The release dates, the intruders ordered the victims to pay $8.5 million or else they would be left to die. When it became clear that the victims were not in a position to meet the intruder's demands, the intruders drug the two residents with a sleeping aid and then fled in the homeowner's jeep Cherokee. Again, what are you doing asking for millions of dollars? Well, you thought you're just going to roll into somebody's house and they're going to be like, "Oh yeah, sure, I got that stashed right over here. Talk about dumb, moronic, idiocy." The stolen jeep was found abandoned the next morning in a parking lot in New Rochelle, New York, which is about 65 miles southwest of South Kent. About a week after the home invasion, an accordion case washed up on the shore of Jamaica Bay on the western tip of Long Island. Inside the case, authorities recovered a stun gun, a 12-inch knife, a black plastic aerosol gun, a crowbar, syringes, sleeping pills, latex gloves, and a laminated telephone card with a South Kent address to the victims the DOJ said. About three years later, an investigator with a Connecticut state police was able to connect a partial Pennsylvania license plate from the night of the home invasion with a car registered to Kennedy. The investigators then discovered that Kennedy had formally lived with a manual Nicolescu who had previously been employed by one of the home invasion victims. Cell phone data revealed that a manual Nicolescu had made a call at the same time and from the same location where the stolen jeep was abandoned. His DNA was then matched to DNA recovered from the stolen vehicle. The accordion case also played a critical role in the investigation, particularly after investigators learned that Kennedy's father was a professional accordion player. Additionally, witnesses later identified the knife in the accordion case as a gift given to a manual Nicolescu by his father-in-law. The investigation revealed that a manual Nicolescu and Kennedy worked with Barabas and Alexandra Nicolescu to commit the crime. The DOJ said, "Barabasco conspirators plan the home invasion, which included the research and purchase of the implements necessary for the crime, such as two-way radios, stun guns, and imitation pistols." On the night of April 15, 2007, Kennedy drove Barabas, a manual Nicolescu and Alexandra Nicolescu to a location near the Southcan home, and then picked them up the following morning in New Rochelle at the location where the intruders abandoned the stolen jeep. Barabas pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to interfere with commerce by extortion, which has a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison. Under the terms of a binding plea agreement, he's agreed to do a sentence between 72 months and 84 months if the agreement is accepted by the court. A manual Nicolescu previously pleaded guilty to attempted extortion, conspiracy to commit extortion and possession of a stolen vehicle, he was sentenced to 240 months. Alexandra Nicolescu pleaded guilty to attempted extortion and conspiracy to commit extortion and was sentenced to 121 months. Kennedy pleaded guilty to attempted extortion and conspiracy to commit extortion, he was sentenced to 48 months. Well, they got off-light because if stupidity was a criminal offense, these idiots were being slapped with a life sentence. All right, moving on to our second article. This article is from CourtTV and the headline, "Dentist accused of killing wife discussed it with mistress, DA alleges." This was originally posted by Scripps News Denver, and there's not an author here, so I'm guessing it was just Scripps as far as their staff. Court documents reveal some of the most damning evidence from prosecutors in the case against a Colorado dentist accused of killing his wife by poisoning her protein shakes. Angela Craig, 43, died on March 18, 2023, from lethal doses of cyanide and tetra-hydrazoline, a decongestant found in over-the-counter eye drops. She suffered through several bouts of sickness where doctors could not determine the cause. Her husband, James Craig, was arrested on March 19, 2023, prefers to remurder in connection with her death. And the evidence they have against this dude is overwhelming. I mean, you're getting packages sent to your office, containing the same kind of chemicals that end up killing your wife? Oh, did I forget to mention that he already poisoned her once? Said it was a mistake? So, the evidence against this dude is strong as hell. And I think that when all said and done, obviously, my man's going up the river. James Craig practiced dentistry at Summerbrook Dental Group. He was formally charged with first-degree murder on March 23 and in mid-July, a charge of solicitation to commit tampering with physical evidence was added. Another charge of tampering with physical evidence was added in May of 2024, and prosecutors are now seeking a third charge of tampering with physical evidence. This moron tried to hire somebody to go to his house and screw around with evidence, leave a note that was allegedly from his dead wife, all kinds of stupid behavior. And I guess that's a theme in this episode, huh? The stupidity that we're seeing by these so-called criminals? And it's a good thing that they're stupid, right? Because if not, they'd be sharing error with the rest of us. Owning a rental property sounds like a dream until you realize how much work goes into getting it ready. Craig pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and the first charge of tampering with physical evidence in October of 2023. His trial is scheduled for August 8th. Ahead of the motions hearing scheduled for Wednesday, Craig's defense team filed a motion requesting all charges against their client be dropped because of outrageous government conduct. Oh, once again, loopholes and technicalities. Now look, I'm here for it. If the government is screwing around and there's prosecutorial misconduct, I've been very clear how I feel. But you better bring the goods. If you're going to talk about prosecutorial misconduct and you're going to talk about the government doing this, that or the other thing, show up with receipts. Don't just show up with your dumb-ass opinions, let's see those receipts, and if you don't have those receipts, well, you should probably shut up. If the charges are not dropped, the defense attorneys would like the judge to exclude evidence from a witness at trial. Prosecutors allege the witness is one of Craig's mistresses. Prosecutors claim the evidence from that witness is some of the most damning evidence in the case against Craig. Craig's attorneys argue prosecutors lied to the witness when interviewing her and that she was coerced into making certain statements. They claim the inclusion of any of that evidence would violate Craig's due process rights because they are inherently unreliable. In response, prosecutors wrote the defense motion is motivated by desperation. The document continues to detail certain voice memos allegedly exchanged by Craig and the witness which include February 2, 2023. Do you know anyone who can help me with my problem down here? I can pay handsomely. I want to be with you. February 3, 2023. Hitting up a homeless person actually sounds like the only choice now. I made a $66,000 in January and I want desperately to share that with you and help you. I feel so trapped. This dude really thinks he's going to get off. You're really out here going to say you're not guilty. We all know you're guilty, bro, okay? So let's just get on with it. Stop with the nonsense. Stop with the BSing around. Stop trying to gum things up and let's just get busy. February 15, 2023. I'm looking forward to Thursday night so much. Maybe we can come up with a solution. I love how resourceful you are. I want to bless your life. Prosecutors claim that the witness interviewed with investigators voluntarily and assert that the defendant is trying to exclude relevant, voluntary, reliable and admissible evidence. They are requesting the judge deny the defense motion without a hearing. His trial remains slated for August. All right, well, Mr. James Craig, the dentist guy, he's in big trouble, folks. Okay. I think that's pretty obvious. And I think it's pretty obvious that he's guilty of what the authorities are saying he's guilty of. And I don't just say that out of the side of my neck. That's based on all the evidence that we've seen and all of the eyewitness stuff that we've seen leaked already. So when we're talking about Mr. Craig, my guess is, bro is never going to see the light of day ever again. All right, folks, that's going to do it for this one.
