KZN's number one for local news, this is East Coast Radio News Watch. The police and prison civil rights union says salary reviews for the country's cops should be at the top of the pile in the new minister's entry. Former KZN Premier Senzontun has been sworn in as the new Minister of Police. He succeeds Becky Thiele, a pop-cruise spokesperson Richard Mamabolo says SAPS members are underpaid considering the dangers involved in their jobs. "The numbers have not been getting salary increases since 2020, in the public sector you've been prepared for. The sun is not leaving the aperture and the cost of leaving has been much ahead for members within the public. The days are now spending excellent on that, it's supposed to be spending at 3 to 1,700 an hour. So those are some of the things you've been taking up with the minister." Ettaguni Municipality says it expects more than $250 million to flow into the local economy during the Durban July, the country's richest horse racing event will take place at the Gravel Racecourse on Saturday. The chairperson of the City's Economic Development Department, Tembok Nduli, says some 5,000 temporary jobs will also be created. He says they are expecting 45,000 people to come into Durban for the event. Nduli says safety will be a priority. And UEFA's opened an investigation into alleged inappropriate behaviour by Turkey player Meri Derip Demiral in their last 16 win against Austria at Euro 2024. Germany's interior minister claimed he made a hand gesture linked to a right-wing extremist group.
