A climate and energy expert says there's been a steady rise in temperatures over the winter period in KZN in the past decade. In July last year, the United Nations declared Earth had entered a global boiling era leading to more extreme weather. On the 16th of July, 2023, it was a hottest day recorded on Earth. There are trends that we can see across the world where temperatures are very abnormal and then the extreme weather events are a proof of that and we have a series of these happening in the urban region. Sia Miesa from Greenpeace, Africa says between 2014 and 2023, temperatures in KZN increased by up to 1.6 degrees Celsius. But it has been increasing over time, even before 2014, which is very significant and this is quite evident when you look at the temperature between 2014 and 2023. You see those variations in increasing temperatures specifically in the month of June, but in winter in general. Miesa advocates for sustainable living as the solution to the climate challenge. Cutting down and using plastics, a walk to like if you can, carpool, share cars. I would say we use more public transport but we know a kind of public transport is deteriorating but that's another best option to cut on emissions, pushing for renewable energy, technologies and solutions. Find the extraction of fossil fuels and push for the agenda that is moving towards just energy transition. The trial of a fourth double murder suspect continues after three of his co-accused were given life sentences by a KZN court. The great town regional court has jailed "Policeie Wetsuma", "Zuma", "Tuberli Lechezi" and "Miesuit Lembert" for killing a "Madimador" woman and her 20-year-old daughter, last August police found the women's bodies inside a house that had been burned down. Police say the victims had been accused of witchcraft. The EFF is calling for the immediate resumption of physical, parliamentary settings for all sessions and committee meetings. Virtual parliament settings were introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic. The party's Leanne Maté says MPs living in remote rural areas suffer from poor network connectivity. The IT infrastructure supporting virtual settings has shown to be inadequate and it results in frequent technical difficulties that disrupt our proceedings. The virtual voting system also lacks transparency, raising concerns about the integrity and the accuracy of voting outcomes. Furthermore, the logistics of coordinating virtual settings are complex and have led to inefficiencies and confusion. The National Assembly has been holding its first hybrid setting of the Seventh Administration today. And scores of people have been crushed to death at a Hindu religious gathering in northern India, a large crowd, that gathered near the city of Hadras for a sermon by a popular preacher. The fierce dust storm sparked panic as people were leaving. Authorities have so far confirmed 97 deaths with many others injured. Durbin 26 tomorrow, Peter Maritzburg and Richard Spay 29.
