KZN's number one for local news, this is East Coast Radio NewsWatch. Impeached judge and MK parliamentary leader John Thorpe has been nominated for the Judicial Service Commission. Thorpe appears among six candidates for the JSC. If appointed, the former Western Cape Judge President could oversee the appointment of judges to South Africa's superior courts. The very same JSC found Thorpe guilty of attempting to influence constitutional court justices in a corruption matter involving former President Jacob Zuma, who is now the MK party leader. Thorpe was impeached in March, becoming the first judge to have been removed in this way. Social development MEC in Bailisshinga has ordered an investigation into abuse allegations at a Chadsworth children's home. He will then present their report in three weeks on our own findings, finding the DSD, but also it will give us their way forward on what is going to happen going forward. Reports emerged of children at the area in a benevolent home facility in the south of Durban allegedly being assaulted with wet towels and bolts. Xingha says the accused workers have been removed pending investigations. He visited ABH this morning and met with management at the facility. These children already come from abusive places and if they are in our homes, in their homes in West of Natal, it is really where they should find all the support they need, but also mostly they come back. We also want to really remind them about the children's right. Hurricane barrels killed at least two people in the southeast Caribbean and is now tracking towards Jamaica and the Cayman Islands. One person died on Caracou and Grenada, which suffered significant damage. The other fatality was on St Vincent and the Grenadines, where Marlon Gibson says it was a frightening storm. The wind was just constant. You could hear the galvanized on the roof just happening sort of in condition and you're really just hoping for the best and all around me, there were houses in the village, their roofs are flying past, you could see it passing, just a terrifying experience. In Caracou's Prime Minister, Dick and Mitchell says the islands taken a significant hit. There is no power. We also are where the communication is done and from earlier in the day we are quite clear that the destruction and the damage has been quite devastating. And barrel is still has category five status, which is the highest ranking. The top story in Peach, judge and MK parliamentary leader John Hoppe has been nominated for the Judicial Service Commission, which earlier removed him as the Western Cape High Court judge president. You can find these and other stories at ecr.co.city. And here's what's coming up in your sport, Rassia Usmas is named a loaded squad for the first test match against Ireland on Saturday. The Sharks have been drawn in pool one for next season's Champions Cup. And Annie Murray has withdrawn from Wimbledon on the day he was supposed to play his first round match.
