KZN's #1 for local news, this is East Coast Radio News Watch. Unemployed social workers have vowed to return to the KZN Premier's office in Petemaritzburg tomorrow. Last week, the group resubmitted a memorandum to Tommy and Tully demanding placement. They gave him in Tully seven days to respond to their demands. In May, the group camped outside the office on Langhali Ballet Street demanding employment. The social development department at the time said that they were working to find a solution. However, Nolotando and Glovo, who are speaking on behalf of the group, says they will return to stage another sit-in tomorrow and stay there until the demands are met. "It seems like the hour of our issue is going to be fantastic if at home they ignore us. All we want is employment so that we are going to assist the community at large because the cases that are not attended are escalating each day in these statistical cases. So, to the new government, please prioritize the employment of social workers. They are at the point of the community." A local rate payer's association says it's concerned that members of President Cyril Ramaphosa's new multi-party cabinet lack the experience and qualifications to adequately run their ministries. Ramaphosa announced his executive on Sunday, the ANC retained 20 of the 32 portfolios giving 12 to opposition parties who have signed on as members of the GNU. Bluff rate payer's association chairperson Alison Ashuman says residents are worried about what these changes mean for them. "The lack of relevant expertise is alarming, particularly because it directly impacts service delivery and governance in 80 greenies. We believe that meaning cabinet appointments are made based on political affiliation rather than on merit and qualifications for the position." At the same time, the Black Business Federation has made an appeal to the executive to work hand-in-hand with businesses, the federations in Siquele de L'Ool de L'Oolane. "We are very encouraged by the individuals that have been appointed as we are of the view that they have got enough capacity and are able to do the work that has been assigned to them. It is also safe to note that even though this is very encouraging, we have also observed that there is differences in ideologies in some of the ministries. As a result of that, we therefore call on all these men and women of our country to ensure that they put first service delivery to the people of South Africa." And abroad, Hurricane barrels strengthened to a category five storm, the most serious level as it betters part of the Southeastern Caribbean. At least one person died in Granada and there's been major damage on the islands of Ariacul and Petite Martinique. While in Barbados, these shop owners have been assessing the damage. "I just come to go for the shop to check on it. I don't think that the damage would be so much." "This is a lot of work. This is more than a week's worth here." That clip courtesy of Sky News.
