The Health Professions Council of South Africa and the University of Quasulina tell have refuted claims that they've failed foreign-trained doctors who want to work in South Africa. They've been accused by the South African Internationally Trained Health Professionals Association of Manipulating the POSS rate. It's after about 70% of applicants who wrote the board exams in October last year and February this year failed. David Mementia is from the HPCSA. We just don't think we are where the exam has got two components to it. There is a theory component which is where quite a number of these candidates are. But the practical part which comes after this year is a different picture. In fact, the practical exam that was taken in December of 2023, the POSS rate was 94%. And the one that was taken in May 2024, it was 61%. So there's just a lot of distortion and misinformation out there. Senior officials from the KZN Social Development Department will descend on the Aryan Benevolent Children's Home in Chatsworth, south of Durban this morning. It has to do with several allegations and recent reports of child abuse at the facility. The department spokesperson, Mclabam Emeila, says Emi Siambali Shinga will address the allegations today. He says those found to be responsible will be met with decisive action. Reports suggest that workers in the facility have ignored children's rights with instances of children being assaulted. The MSC is expected to outline images being implemented to protect children in the facility.
