On FM, on the station app, and on Open View Channel 606, this is East Coast Radio Newswatch. The South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry has called for President Siro Ramaphosa to be transparent about how he went about choosing the ministers that will make up his cabinet under the Government of National Unity. "We are not in a position to evaluate the possibility of your success of failure because you have not shared with us how you told your people. Just because the political partners that are green are no secret doesn't necessarily mean those that are people." That's the essay, CCI's Alan Mukokie, who says Ramaphosa must reveal the criteria used to assign the positions. The President announced his new multi-party executive on Sunday after weeks of negotiations. The ANC retained 20 of the 32 portfolios, giving 12 to opposition parties who have signed on as members of the G&U. It's after the party lost its outright majority in the 2024 general elections. "If it's a random process, it may well be that some people are really good. It may well be some people are actually going to the fore. Because it seems implied in their statement of intent as a G&U, then share with us so that you can understand what other process elections are not. We're swearing in ceremony of the Deputy President, Cabinet Ministers and Deputy Ministers as members of the National Executive will take place tomorrow in Cape Town. To Hauteng, the announcement of the Province's Executive was postponed again last night. It's after negotiations between the ANC and DA reached a deadlock. The Party's provincial secretary, Tambing Khosin Nizas, says Hauteng Premier Panias Al-Lussufi almost likely make the announcement today. "They were not going to allow anybody to bully us. When we have a view that is contrary to DA, DA can act as if they are a victim." The DA's Salih M. Simangas says they've been negotiating with the ANC in good faith. "You cannot have 34% and the next biggest party's bringing 27% and you want to hold on to 7 Cabinet positions and only give 2." And abroad, the US Supreme Court's rule that Donald Trump has immunity from prosecution for official acts taken while in office as president, but not as a private citizen. He's been facing charges for allegedly trying to overturn the 2020 election result. The case has now been sent back to a lower court. Former Deputy Assistant Attorney General Thomas Dupri says the judge has a big task on her hands. "This is a homework assignment of massive proportions for Judge Chutkin. There is an enormous amount of legal work that is now going to have to unfold over the next several months. That means the chances of a trial before the election are zero at this point."
