The Professional Drag Racers Association (PDRA) brings its one-of-a-kind drag racing to Rockingham Dragway April 7-9 for the Spring Nationals. The baddest doorslammers on the planet will battle it out, going from 0 to 230 MPH in just 660 feet and less than 4 seconds. Blown, nitrous-oxide assisted, naturally aspirated and turbo cars will all take on the legendary eighth-mile to see who will be crowned kings -or queens- of “The Rock.”
“The Blazing Angel” and “The Beast” Jet Cars will be going head to head in a unique jet car match race. The PDRA is also thrilled to feature Danny O’Day’s ATI Wheel Stander, the world’s quickest wheel stander.
Rockingham Dragway has a longstanding history of professional eighth-mile racing, often providing a massive turnout and record breaking runs. In NAS Racing Pro Extreme local legends Todd Tutterow and Terry Leggett will hope to dominate the quickest and fastest class of the PDRA.

But if Mooresville native Lizzy Musi has anything to say, it’ll be a lady taking home the honors. The action will heat up first in qualifying with the Flatout Gaskets Nitrous Wars where top dog in qualifying will take home the coveted Nitrous Wars trophy.
In GALOT Motorsports Park Pro Boost GALOT Motorsports driver Kevin Rivenbark is on a mission to grab the number one this year, barely missing last year’s Pro Boost Championship. Fellow local hero Jeremy Ray, along with a host of others, will be making that a difficult feat for Rivenbark.

The semi-pro classes of MagnaFuel Top Sportsman and Lucas Oil Products Top Dragster will also be on show for the weekend, as well as the young guns of MegaCorp Pro and Talbert Top Junior Dragster. “Rockingham is where the boys and men will be separated! This will be one for the record books. Rockingham has always been known for being a fast track. Don't miss it,” PN competitor Jay Cox said with excitement.
Military who present their ID will get in free to all nine PDRA events in 2016. In recognition of their service local military bases are invited as special guests at the PDRA Spring Nationals. The PDRA is committed to giving back and expressing appreciation to servicemen and women.

Granger, for the ones who get it done. - Hey, it's Arrow on iHeartRadio. The Professional Drag Racers Association brings its one-of-a-kind racing to Rockingham Dragway this weekend, April 7th through the night, for the Spring Nationals. The baddest door slimmers on the planet will battle it out, going from zero to 230 miles per hour in just 660 feet. Who better to know about this kind of action than this driver? We are unplugged and totally uncut with Tommy Franklin. - Boy, it's fun time in your part of the world, isn't it? - It definitely is. - I mean, Springtime in the Carolinas is awesome, but when Rockingham heats up like it's gonna do this weekend, I mean, I can't imagine what you guys are going through. - Yeah, a lot of adrenaline. I mean, we've got, you know, the weather that we're gonna have here is just gonna be record setting. You know, for EPs out here, it's just, this is our dream. You know, you get weather like this and your cars really come around to it and there's gonna be a lot of records drop out here, so. - To bring up that history of Rockingham and to be a part of that history, what is that like for you and the drivers? Because I mean, we're not talking about just any town. This is Rockingham. - It is, and I mean, Rockingham's just, it's legendary. You know, you come here and you just look at all the racers that's been here throughout the years and to be able to, as a racer myself, to be able to race in the organization at, you know, at Rockingham Dragway, it's just, you know, it's monumental. It definitely is. - I know around iHeartRadio here today, we're all talking about the blazing angel and the beast. I mean, we're talking jet cars in action this weekend. - There's no doubt, there's gonna be the fastest pro mods in the world. And I mean, in the world. It doesn't matter where you go in the world, just the fastest pro mod's gonna be on the, you know, on the property of Rockingham Dragway. In addition to that, you get wheel standards, jet cars that are run nearly 300 mile an hour. Just, you know, a ton, a ton of adrenaline excitement here to, you know, go on Friday and Saturday. There's no doubt if you're, if you have any kind of, you wanna have a good time this weekend, it doesn't matter if it's Friday after you get off work, or if it's Saturday all day or Saturday night, there's gonna be action-packed excitement all night long. - And the greatest thing about drag racing, you guys are so pro-fan. I mean, the fan goes there and they can have the total experience. - Well, they are, every, every, every pass is a, is a pit pass, you know, you can come up, you can get right up to the drivers, right up to the cars, you know, driver autographs all day long, driver key shirts, everything right at the trailers. So it's not a, you know, there's nothing stand off, there's nothing that we're roping y'all. There's, you can get right up front, close and center, and have it be really mixed into the action. - Do you think that relationship with the fans is because the drivers themselves are fans, and it just puts everything right in the moment? - It is, this is an, you know, this is something that, you know, as a driver, we're all egomaniacs. So to be able to be out here and entertain fans and have fans be your fans and come up and even want to be compelled enough to root for you and look at your car and do things, that's what it's about. We want to interact with the fans, we want to have a good time and have a, you know, just have a blast. You know, we love seeing kids come out that are interested. We love seeing parents and adults, and everybody else come out that are interested. It's just everybody, you know, from whatever, you know, from birth to 80, you know, or 100, whatever you want to be. You know, we're open to everybody. - You're a Camaro man. What happened to your heart when you saw that Camaro introduced that new car that's basically designed for racing? They introduced it last week in New York. - They did, yeah, it's, you know, I am. I'm a Chevrolet guy at heart, I love Camaro. My cars are 69 Camaro, and, you know, it's one of those things. Once you're either a Chevrolet guy, or Ford guy, or a Mopark guy, or an import guy, whatever you are, but I'm a Chevrolet at heart. Just the rest of them just don't feel the same. I don't know what those people are thinking. (laughing) - Do you think this new Camaro is going to put some damage on the track and stuff? I mean, it's designed for racing. - It really shouldn't be. You know, there's, you know, when you get to the kind of stuff and the engineers behind it, any of the manufacturers put their heads to it, they really put out a great product out there that, you know, and that's what we want. We want people to want the parts of the car that's going to be, you know, race right here, be able to go out there and race at a level, and, you know, that's what drag racing is about, is from your grassroots all the way up to professional ranks. You know, and it's just so accessible, so. - So what is it like to go from zero to 230 miles per hour and 660 feet? I mean, your everyday life must be in slow motion. - Yeah, well, you know, that's funny today, 'cause that's what happens when you get inside the car. You know, these cars just, they slow down. You know, when you're inside of them, you just get used to it and everything kind of flows down, and we might be doing it in three and a half seconds or 3.7 seconds, you know, it's just, it's a long 3.7 seconds. Even though it's going really fast, it's kind of what, you know, as you get used to it, that's what happened, and, you know, the adrenaline rush is, that's what it's all about. - You've put so much into the drag racing, especially this weekend at Rockingham. Talk to me, though, about your real life, which is part of the smart com home technologies. Let people on iHeartRadio know what you do beyond that track. - Yep, so one of the differences, obviously, is a lot of the racers out here, we're working people, you know, and I own an electric company, Franklin Electric Company, and also a smart com home technology. Got 86 employees that are able to keep everything going while I take a couple days away to come down here and race. So it's, you know, it's a task. It's a lot of work, it's a lot of hours, but we do what we do so that we can do what we love, so. - Now, is that love the sound of the engine, or is it the speed of that car? - It's the speed. I mean, the sound is nice, so yeah, it's the speed. (laughing) - Have your daughters become addicted to that speed, too, where they're gonna start climbing in those cars? - We do actually have my oldest daughter, 13 Amber. She's, she already races the junior director. She'll be racing the junior director here this weekend. And my youngest is nine, Ashley. And she is, she's on the fence, she's getting close. She's getting ready to get in there. So I would say here in the next couple months, she'll be testing a, one of the junior directors and get herself in. And my oldest daughter, like I said, already going it. She's ate up with it, she's just as bad. She might be worse than me, but she's ate up with it. - How does that make you feel, man? - I love it. I mean, it just gives us something to do with the family. That's what, you know, that's what the feeder age is about. We can come out here. Families can come out here, enjoy themselves, spend a couple hours of quality time together, or eight hours, 10 hours, whatever that is. And that's what we do, you know? I mean, we come here, I make sure my kids keep their grades up, but hey, at the same time, they're all school today. They're here racing and, you know, testing and doing stuff. And that's what's great about my wife and, you know, my wife Judy and both my girls, we're all here. You know, what we call fun, it is a lot of work, but at the same time, we spend a lot of quality time together. And that's what it's about. And that's what the PDA tries to do. It's put on a great atmosphere for anybody to bring their, you know, kids out or themselves out, or whatever it is and just have some good time. And, you know, it's just, it's a big party, so it is. - So what is the best way for people to find out more about it, A, find out where it is in Rockingham, B, how to get tickets, and C, basically to find out more about the races? - Yep, so if you go to www.PDRA660.com, that's P-D-R-A-660.com. You can go there to have all the event schedules. We've got Friday night. We'll have qualifying all day Friday, but we have a profile, qualifying session. Friday night, I believe it starts at 6.30. Saturday, we'll start back up with a qualifying session, then we'll go right into elimination and run that through Saturday night. There's discount coupons available on the website, so $10 off coupons. All you gotta do is print them off there, show up at the gate, you get $10 off. Kids 12 and under are free. As far as Rockingham Dragway, I believe it's 2153 US Highway 1 North, and in Rockingham Dragway, it's legendary. Everybody probably knows where it's at, it's lives in North Carolina, I'm sure. You're anywhere within two to three hours, or four hours, or five hours from here. This is the place to be this weekend. Like I said, it's the fastest, fastest part of my car is in the world, and they're gonna put on a show. - Saving money is easy with Maverick's Adventure Club. You'll save two cents on fuel every gallon every day, and earn trail points you can use to buy stuff and enter to win stuff.
