For your favorite wild caters, the handsome Bosco boys. Boom, the boys are back and it is time for another show, another week. The plan is to have five episodes for you guys again this week as we're getting closer and closer to football season. Closer and closer to Blitzmonth, where we'll be previewing the case state football season with just about everyone who talks and covers case state sports. I'm looking forward to it. Today, it's really going to be a takeaway from the week that was in media days as talking season has begun. So that's what we're going to do because I think there were some good takeaways. Like I said in my episode last week, I didn't think that there was going to be anything game changing, anything so important that I had to come on and talk about it last week. I think that stays the same. But I think enough was there that you got some takeaways. I think you not necessarily news, but you got a taste of what case state football is going to be this upcoming year. I think there were a few things that I took away from some of the other schools, a few things that I want to talk about or I think are worth talking about on our show. But ultimately, I want to give a shout out to the big 12 to everyone who was covering it because I think it was an entertaining event. I think it was informative. It was good TV, you know, the coaches podium to just set it on and listen in the background when Chris Kahneman wasn't going. I think ESPN, you did a good job with some of their breakout stuff. So I think all in all is a good event. And it really is that kickoff to football getting here. You know, I think it is the beginning of the end of the off season. Obviously, we don't have an off season here at Bosco's was we've had at least one episode every single week. God, I think we're over, I mean, I think we're over six years. Only a few weeks early on was there any sort of break. So there is no off season for us. And obviously, June, we had multiple episodes every week, July had four episodes the first week. It looks like we're going to have five every week all the way to August. So it's a lot easier now that talking season is officially here. This week, of course, like I said, we're going to have some of my media day takeaways, obviously taking everything in from home. I wasn't there. Tomorrow, planning on having a July recruiting update, hopefully Drew Galloway of Casey Online. Wednesday should be the hope is the big 12 dream road trip episode, hopefully with my little brother Alan. That's become a fun episode. Any longtime listeners know, we've always had the dream football road trip. Last year I added in the big 12 road trip. We should have the all college football road trip probably next week. That's my hope. But that's a fun episode of fun exercise, especially with the new big 12. There's some really fun games and I enjoyed doing that one with my brother Thursday. We should be going behind enemy lines with Houston and Friday with Arizona State as we're getting close to wrapping up that series. I hope you guys have enjoyed that series. I've enjoyed doing it. It is it is extra work, but I've enjoyed it. I feel like I know the teams on Casey schedule a lot better. I think hearing the excitement for the season for all the teams on the schedule is it is fun. It's exciting. It's not just us who's excited and everyone should be excited for their team in June and July of college football. I've had a blast doing that. I hope you guys have enjoyed listening. Like I said, this episode, I'm going to have my takeaways. I'm going to start off case takeaways. There's a couple takeaways that I had for some of the other teams and then some macro big 12 takeaways at the end. I would love to hear what your guys take away from the last couple of weeks of talking season has been. I know there there's some stuff with Bill Conley. I'm not touching that folks. I I don't have the energy in me to get mad over an ESPN plus article. I just don't I don't have it in me to get mad about EA sports ratings. I think I am going to buy the game though. And a lot of these YouTubers who got the game early. It seems like K state when you sim, you know, as long as Avery Johnson's there, we're pretty good in the game. So that'll be fun to play with. So I think I'm going to buy a system in the game this week. So yeah, it's exciting. Before we get going in the meat of this show, this this podcast is brought to you by our friends over at Charlie Hussle. Charlie Hussle, you know, they specialized in vintage inspired hometown and collegiate gear and they produce the best officially licensed case state gear in the game. Chop Charlie, shop Charlie Hussle's case state collection today and show off your purple pride and style and comfort shop online at charliehussle.com or at one of the store locations in Kansas City, Charlie Hussle, vintage made fresh. I'm rocking I'm rocking my old school case state beef shirt right now from the Charlie Hussle collection. That one's been retired. They had some fun stuff from the big eight road show. I'm dreaming of crew next season. I think the low one of these days, I think is 58. So you know, I might use that excuse to get out one of my Charlie Hussle crew next. They also got great stuff in the Kansas City baseball collection that I've been rocking, you know, all star game coming up. Football collection, if you cheer for the same protein as me and soccer as well, they have everything you can want over there at Charlie Hussle. All right, let's get into it. Really, the biggest takeaway that the number one takeaway I had from watching on TV, digesting other people's podcasts, YouTube content, reading articles, is that Avery Johnson may not be a superstar, but everyone at big 12 media days thinks he's going to. I understand why he wasn't the preseason pick for quarterback 100% understand that. I'm not, this is not going to be an episode. And if there was going to be an episode within the last week where I stand on my table and stomp my feet and I'm mad about it, no, I understand why he wasn't. But he is being treated as one of the superstars of this league. Just about every national outlet was wanting time with Avery Johnson. You see some of the pictures during breakout sessions. He was one of the most in demand guys on day one. Every single player from K state that went down there, they were asked about Avery Johnson. Chris Klimann was talked about Avery Johnson. This guy that there's just something different in the air about Avery Johnson. Again, some of it is always the quarterback, you know, and this isn't to take anything away from Will Howard. This isn't anything to take away from Skylar Thompson, one of my all time favorites from Jesse Eart's from any of the guys. Any of the guys really since calling Klein, you know, going into his senior season, none of them have had the star power. None of them have had the name recognition from outside of K state fans or diehard big 12 fans. This is the guy. I mean, honestly, the closest thing to it was Adrian Martinez, you know, since calling Klein in the thing about Adrian Martinez is it wasn't as much about, Oh, how good could he be? It was he set all these records at Nebraska, but they couldn't win. That was the story around Adrian Martinez. That's not the story here with Avery Johnson. The story with Avery Johnson is, hey, we saw him play the majority of the Texas tech game we saw him play in a large part of the TCU game. We saw him start and play the entire bowl game. And this kid can be electric. Avery Johnson. And I understand why even some of the rivals of K state, you know, you see KU fans, you see Iowa State fans. I even see some Colorado and Oklahoma state fans. Basically, everyone except for like Texas tech and TCU fans are like, man, you know, what's all this hype about, you know, trying to minimize all this with Avery Johnson, because you look at it's like, Oh, you know, he only started in one game and he only played in a handful. And oh, look at his passing stats in the pop tart, but that misses the entire point of his high level ability. And people are saying that you can tell that they didn't watch him. You know, they didn't watch the Texas tech game. They didn't watch a TCU game. They weren't watching, you know, when it was scrub time in some of those games and Avery Johnson was just carving teams up with the backup offensive line and some wide receivers that hardly got any playing time. They didn't watch the bowl game and understand, okay, you know, if you want to, if you want to take shots at his, you know, passing efficiency, you saw when he was throwing the ball away instead of scrambling because he couldn't really afford to get hurt. You know, you are trying to detract because you haven't seen what everyone else has. So the level of stardom that he has had, despite how little he has played really is second to none. I don't think we have ever seen anything like this, except for honestly, except for maybe arch manning. You know, I think that's really the closest comp we have. And that's the most famous football recruit. I mean, maybe ever, you know, that that's the rarefied air that Avery Johnson is in without being a full time starting quarterback. So I think the national media understands it. I think the regional media understands it. I think that's case eight fans understand it. I understand some fans are trying to say, let's not over hype things. Let's not get to worry again. He's going to make his mistakes. He may not be a first team all American this year. I totally understand where everyone's coming from, but make no mistake about it. There has maybe never been a player at K state with the superstar ceiling that Avery Johnson has. And everyone who works in college football understands it. And I think that's exciting. Something else I noticed and staying on the offensive side of the ball, Chris Kline and touched on this, Hadley Panzer touched on this. Avery Johnson touched on it a little bit, but they're talking about and they talked about Chris Kline and specifically talked about it in a couple of different spots, that they need to be more efficient and effective in the passing game. And it seems like they are insistent on passing more. Now, I've said it a couple times that specifically with Avery Johnson, I understand that he wants to be seen as a throwing quarterback who can run. He's really trying to maximize that next step for him, being a first round draft pick, being someone who's invited to the NFL draft. I understand that. And my, the thing I always say is I understand it, but I hope they are not so dead set on it that it does that it makes it so you can't maximize this offense. And with the passing stuff, I'm right there. Again, I'm not in the rooms and I know Matt Wells is helping change the passing game. We're going to see some different formations. We're going to see some different looks. I think the amount of auction routes are going to be paired back quite a bit, which is going to help big time with Avery with some of these younger wide receivers. No doubt. But all this talk about passing the ball when you have two electric running backs, two future NFL guys at running back, you have the fastest guy maybe in the conference playing quarterback for you. I just hope that they do not try to force this and get away from the running game. And it shoe strings and hamstrings the offense. I am worried about that a little bit. We'll see what comes from it. I think I have enough confidence in Connor Riley that it won't be it won't be something that hurts them in the long run. But I am a little nervous about it. They made sure to say it just about every turn. Hey, we're going to spin the ball a little bit more. And I hope I look like a fool. I hope that this is one of the most efficient and effective passing teams in the conference. And I hope I look like a fool come October. Everyone can tweet me Scott. Hey, remember when you were worried about that? I hope that's the case. But I do have a little bit of anxiety about how much they're talking about the passing game and insistent on that being the focal point. When you have what I think is an offensive line that can really allow you to dominate Nate teams on the ground, a quarterback who could rush for 1000 yards if we wanted them to and two running backs that could rush for over 1000 yards if we wanted them to. So we'll see what happens. You know, it is something that's eating at me a little bit. But you know, the season will be here soon enough. And we'll find out if this has been unneeded nerves from me, which knock on what I hope it is elsewhere. A family is camping under the one star visible from their backyard. Oh, wait, that's a streetlight in North Carolina. Real adventures await for real visit in sea. The last thing I'll touch on specifically with K state to offense. And this is where I do get excited. It's Chris Kaimin, Avery Johnson, Hadley panzer all talked about Dylan Edwards and what he's going to be able to do in this offense. Chris Kaimin talked about how, you know, DJ is still going to be the lead back. There's going to be some games he gets over 30 touches a game. There's going to be some games that he gets close to 15, which that's exactly what happened last year. I don't think we're going to see anything change for DJ. But what they're going to be able to do with Dylan Edwards, they talked about using him in the return game. They talk about using him in the slot. They talk about different running packages and different sort of running plays that you can use when Dylan Edwards is in the backfield either by himself or with DJ Giddens. I think that I think that this is going to be an electric combo. I think that you're going to see how I envision it. I think you're going to see Dylan Edwards almost used like D Anthony Thomas was at Oregon, you know, a guy who is, you know, getting, you know, around a hundred ish 80 to 90 rushing touches a game or not a game a season. So you're getting, you know, between eight to nine rushes a game, you're getting three to four catches a game. You're going to be on punt and kick off return trying to make plays happen in the special teams. I that's how I envision Dylan Edwards. I see him being a home run threat in the passing game, the running game and the special teams. I see you wanting to probably limit his touches to around 15, maybe as high as 20 a game on the offense and then any sort of return touches as well. But again, I think the excitement around him is it's going to allow for creativity, not that you can't get creative with DJ, DJ the Bluejay Giddens. But I think you are going to be looking at, you know, different misdirections. I think it's past in the backfield, starting off in the backfield, motioning out getting lined up on a linebacker and then just absolutely cooking him. I think you're going to see the height of creativity that Connor Riley and Matt Wells has with Dylan Edwards. And I think you get that from what Avery said down in Las Vegas, what Chris Kommen said out in Las Vegas, what Hadley Panzer said out in Las Vegas. And Wildcat NIL's YouTube page, Curry Sexton sat down with 30, 40 minutes of Dylan Edwards. And you got a little bit of that as well. Now, it wasn't just on the field stuff. If anyone hasn't, I would highly recommend going in watching, listening to what Wildcat NIL put out there because they talked about what Dylan envisions for himself at K-State, the recruitment process, which led him to K-State originally, to flipping to Notre Dame, to flipping to Colorado, and then him deciding to come home. A lot about the dynamic between him and the Sanders family. A lot of good stuff. But I do think that my takeaway, the final kind of offensive takeaway is how creative and how many different ways they're going to be looking to get the ball into Dylan Edwards hands. And at the same time, I still don't think we're going to see much change for DJ. I think we're going to see DJ get around the same amount of touches that he got last year. And I really do think if you're able to keep DJ at where he was last year and really open up the creativity with Dylan Edwards, things are going to be a lot of fun. Now, before we get going, we'll give a shout to Manhattan Brewing Company rocking with us for over two years straight. Now, we love Manhattan Brewing Company, the best brewery in the state of Kansas. If you haven't, please go back and listen to my show with them on Wednesday for a little sponsor spotlight. They previewed some great beers that will be dropping this fall, some great events. And you get the story behind Manhattan Brewing Company and how it came to be. I love those guys. I love those beers. I love the taproom. Everything about it is amazing. Make sure you're talking your local liquor stores here in the state of Kansas to make sure that they're stocking Manhattan Brewing Company. There's a couple places right down the road from me. They're stocking it right at the top shelf of the craft beer section, where they belong. Next time you're in Manhattan, get a couple of pints, get a couple of four packs, get a couple of crawlers. Every time you're in the happiest place in America. And remember, football season is right around the corner in town. We again is the official tailgate beer of Bosca's boys. So shout out to them. We'll go to defense now. And defense, you know, isn't as sexy. You know, I get it. But the takeaways, I had two really big takeaways on the defensive side when Chris Kliman was talking about Marquis Segal, Brennan Mott is that I think there is some real depth in the secondary and specifically at the defense event spot. I think when you when you hear about Chidi OBA's or when you hear about some of the guys that came back, Travis Bates, who transferred in from Austin P, I think that they have six guys at defensive end. And I don't even know if that includes, I don't know if that even includes Toby Osensami, Toby O, who moved down to defensive end as well, who I think is going to be in some specific NASCAR packages, some pass rush packages. But I think they can go six deep there. I think they absolutely love what they have in their secondary between some of the returning starters. When you when you got Keenan Garber and Jacob Parrish on the outside, you have Marquis Segal back there, who I think is really going to come into his own. You have some other Vijay Payne returning. I think you have some transfers in at the safety position who who are going to be battling for that third starting spot. I think you have Colby McAllister. He's getting a lot of fun buzz. You heard his name pop up a few times. And then you have some experienced corners who are providing depth. You have some young corners who are providing depth. You have some young safeties who are providing depth. And really the entire defense, you know, I think you know who your starting linebackers are. Can you get that sort of depth behind out Moranko behind Austin Moore, who was also at Media Day behind Desmond Purnell, the Topeka Cat, you know, can't ace a new some step up. Can Austin Romaine take that next step? Can you find that second guide to provide that quality depth so you can be six deep at the linebacker spot? That's what I'm going to be looking for. And if you can get there again, if you feel confident in your too deep, and if there is maybe one guy who can float around and play multiple spots at each level of the defense, I think you are going to be in position. I think you're going to be able to set up shop and say, hey, we feel great about the defense. And again, outside of the 2020 disaster, case dates defense under Chris climbing in specifically under Joe Clanderman has been a top 30 to top 25 unit every single year. I don't think that this year will be any different. I think that this defense has the potential. I think last year, I think Kelly Ford had them around the 29th ranked defense last year. I think that they can be a top 25 defense this upcoming year. I think that they can get better in the margins and have bigger big playability. I know that we had trouble getting the takeaways at a frequency that we would have liked last year. Markey Siegel specifically being one of those guys, I think that you're going to see the takeaways go up. I think you're going to see a few more sacks this year. And I think you can see this team instead of being a top 30 to top 25 defense, I think you can see this be a top 25 to a top 20 type defense. And if you can make that sort of jump and allow for a little bit of growing pains early with the offense or a game where hey, you know, Avery's just a little unexperienced and he maybe turns it over a couple times or a couple times where you stall out in the red zone and you either go for it on fourth down, don't pick it up or have to settle for field goals. If you have a defense that you could depend on to pick you up in a couple of those games, you could avoid some of those losses. Again, I think back to the Missouri game where the defense still was trying to figure things out at the back end, got burnt a couple times deep. That's what led to Markey Siegel making that change of which safety spot he plays. I think from that moment on, things got a lot better outside of the Texas game. That was bad. And then we'll talk about the Iowa State game here in a little bit. But I think in modern college football, you know, I think you have to have if you're going to be a conference champion, you have to have an offense that can win that game for you. But I think the key is having a defense that picks up that offense in weeks where the offense is sputtering a little bit. So you don't have that head scratching loss. Man, if only we could have done this loss. If you have a defense that's able to pick you up and get those turnovers, keep them out of the end zone. And I think that this team has that ability. Again, I think that we heard so much about the defensive ends. And again, I'm not down on our linebackers. I think Alec Moranko is going to be great. You guys know how I feel about Desmond Purnell, Austin Moore coming back for his sixth season. And I think that you have some depth guys, you know, in Austin, Romaine, in Asa Newsom coming back from his knee surgery. I think the linebackers can still be fine. But I think you could see a return in some situations to a four down front. And I think that it's going to be that extra linebacker coming off the field. And I could see, you know, having one of those bigger defensive ends, you know, sliding down to a three tech, you got two guys on the outside, pinning their ears back going for the quarterback. I think we could see that in some passing situations instead of, you know, blitzing a linebacker, blitzing a safety, I think you could see, hey, we're going to drop six or drop seven, excuse me, we're going to have four guys with the hand in the ground. And we're going after the quarterback, because we think we can get there with those four guys, whether it's Uso in the middle, just trying to take up a double team, or you see Malcolm Alcorn Crowder come into that situation, because he has some three techs ability, he has some pass rushing ability. I think you're going to see some fun and creative stuff on defense, especially with the defensive line. The last thing specifically to the K State defensive, I have one other thing that's related to K State as well before we talked about the big 12 media date event as a whole. I talked about the Iowa State game. And you heard it from Austin Moore, you heard it from Marquis Siegel, you heard it from Brendan Mott. I think those three guys really have that game eating away at them a little bit. I think that they are really bothered by how the defense played in that game. And it's a little bit of the yin and yang, you know, they feel great about how the game went in the bowl game versus NC State. Again, one of NC State's touchdowns coming on a fake punt. I think everyone was pleased with how the defense played that game. But I think the Iowa State game and that performance really bothered them. Again, it's not even that they were really you know, dominated beginning to end of that game. They just were giving up massive plays. You know, I don't think the stat was what Iowa State didn't take a snap in K State's territory. I think all their touchdowns were 50 yards or more. I don't know if I had that exactly right, but I mean, it was a disgusting day. And I think that really bothers them. And I think that's one of the driving forces for this defense is really remembering that Iowa State game and driving to get better. So I hope they're using that motivation. Well, I hope when the time comes again, that's game number 12. But I hope they remember that game and really harken in on that come week 12, hopefully cementing a bid to Arlington. This episode is brought to you by mug root beer. It's 3 p.m. on a Thursday, too late for a coffee, too early for a beer. So you walk around aimlessly in search of a mysterious third beverage. That's when you hear it. The sound of the dog, the sound of mug root beer. So drink mug root beer if you got that dog in you. So I have two more things that are somewhat related to K State that didn't aren't 100% cases. We transitioned to some of the media days a whole. The first thing I want to touch on is Jane Orville at Colorado State publicly saying that their media day calling out K State saying that we tampered. He listed a lot of schools, but specifically claim K State was offering $600,000 to try to get their quarterback and that we are also trying to go after their wide receiver as well. Now, I think at this point, as of me recording this, I think Derek Young has publicly refuted that by his own reporting. I think Tim Fitzgerald has said that on his YouTube page. I believe Kellis Robinette had something on at the Kansas City Star. I also reached out to someone with K State, a couple people at K State, and they said that's equivocally false. That's not true. And I think that I think everyone would just be quiet if it wasn't true. You know, I think people have no problem just leaving you on red, not saying anything. But I think that anytime you talk to someone at K State, they're so adamant that this isn't true. I think it's just a boldface lie from Colorado State. Now, what I assume happened, what I'm guessing happened, I'm guessing that Jane Orville didn't just make up Kansas State and go up there and make these accusations. I'm guessing that this wide receiver in quarterback duo, they were trying to get more NIL money from Colorado State's operations and hey, look, these schools are coming after us. This is what they're offering. If you give me this, we'll stick around. Otherwise, we may have to look at going to the portal. My guess is that's what happened. And Jane Orville decided he was going to try to go viral and talk about it during his media availability. So I don't think that's true at all. I do think that every single school, all 100 and whatever it is, 38 FBS schools, and I think every single FCS school, and hell, I think even division two schools have been tampered with. I don't think anyone's immune. I think that Alabama, Texas, Georgia, I think they have players that are being tampered with. And I think that, you know, Washburn is having people tampered with. I think every single football program, I think every single basketball program held just about every single team sport is being tampered with. So I believe that's happening. I think every single school, every single school is probably sniffing around guys that maybe aren't in the portal yet either. I think this is just the way college sports are. I wish it wasn't. I wish it wasn't. I wish that the member institutions truly gave into the power to the NCAA and didn't all of a sudden decide they were going to sue when the rules that they all agreed to, you know, went against, you know, their school. I wish that they didn't decide anytime that a rule they agreed to didn't work out in their favor. Hey, I'm going to go to a friendly judge at a circuit court and they're going to say the NCAA is wrong. That's a podcast for another day, but everyone has been on both sides of this thing. And I think it's pretty lame of Jay Norville to do it. You know, I that's who the who I have an issue with. I have an issue with the coach being a whiner out in public. Because look, players are going to do stuff to try to find leverage. I'm not going to get mad at some of these players for either lying or making stuff up in an effort to get leverage. That's the name of the game these days. But Jay Norville just needs to he just needs to keep his mouth quiet because anyone who believes that K state was trying to offer $600,000 for a guy to be the backup quarterback is insane. Absolutely insane. We'll move on. We'll get back to actual big 12 media day stuff. It's not directly related to K state, but I want to give kudos to I think it was the hot Mike show with Dom Izzo from North Dakota. And he did his entire, I think it's either two or three hour radio show live from Las Vegas media days. All because North Dakota state was playing Colorado in the opener, South Dakota state's playing Oklahoma state and of course the North Dakota state crossover with K state. But I don't think I have ever seen an example of a media show a radio show going down to a media days that has nothing to do with their home market just because there's a couple non conference games just because there's a couple connections with some other schools. That would be like Mitch Fortner going to SEC media days because there's some assistant coaches that had ties to K state or something like that. There's not a great example are going up to big 10 media days to try to talk to Will Howard and to Kobe Savage, you know, at Oregon state. It's just something unique and I think it says a lot about the fever pitch and the love of college football of the Missouri Valley football conference up there, you know, in the North in the Dakotas up in Iowa, all those places that play a really fun brand of football in the FCS level. They also did a great job. They had sit downs with Gene Taylor, Chris Klein and Marquis Siegel. You can find it on their YouTube page, but a lot of fun stories, a lot of informational stuff. It was more anecdotal stuff looking back at all three of their times at North Dakota state. But there was fun stories. You got to see some of the personality. You got a little bit of football talk, especially from Chris Kleinman talking about Avery Johnson and that kind of spinning around and some talk about Matt Wells as well on that show so you can get on YouTube and listen and watch that as well. But I thought it was really neat that one of the some of the best content of all of big 12 media days originated with a couple media outlets from North Dakota, specifically, at least for my opinion, that live show, you know, two hours, three hours a day, both days coming from a North Dakota sports doc station. So I thought that was absolutely awesome. Next takeaway, it's I think Colorado and Utah are really leaning into being the villains. And I think I think that's fun. I think that's going to be fun for this conference. Now, Dion took to Twitter and he tweeted about how much he loved Dylan Edwards and how happy is that Dylan is happy at K state when the Wildcat and IL YouTube episode with Dylan Edwards started going viral. Again, if you haven't watched it, go to their YouTube page and do it. So I don't I don't think that I don't think that Dion is a bad guy by any means. He has his ways of doing it and he's fine being that personality that that folks want to take down and they're fine, you know, buying into their own height. But you know, Dion and his own kids are talking about how, you know, it's not the same when we win versus when you win and we lose versus when you lose. And I think it was Shudur who said, Hey, every game we place everyone else is Super Bowl. I don't think he's wrong. You know, some people scoffed at them and said, Oh, you guys went four and eight last year. How how's that everyone Super Bowl? I don't think he's wrong. I think everyone wants to beat Colorado. And I think that them going about it that way is completely wrong. I do not think you are good enough to be everyone Super Bowl. You know, teams get up for playing Colorado, playing Dion, like they would playing a top 15 top 20 team because of all the eyeballs, because of all the attention that Dion gets. And look, Dion's going to do it his way coach primes going going to do it his way. And he's not listening to this show. But if I was going to give him a piece of advice, I would have tried to be a little bit more humble. I would have tried to downplay some stuff. Look, if everyone is circling you guys on the schedule and you're not that good, because you're not. You're going to have another rough season. I have a hard time seeing Colorado being a bold team. Now I'm not going to go as far as, you know, I've seen some folks saying, Oh, they're going to start Owen three or anything like that. This is not a FCS title contending North Dakota state team. That dynasty's done. It resides at South Dakota state Jackrabbits now. So I don't think they're going to lose that. I don't know what they're going to do with Nebraska. That's in Lincoln, you know, Matt rule. I'm a big Matt rule fan. So maybe he'll get them going to win that. We all remember that blockbuster game. They had verse Colorado state last year. It's in Fort Collins instead of Boulder. We'll see what happens there, but I'm not going to predict them to go Owen three, but I'm not going to predict them to go to a bowl either. So we'll see what happens with Colorado this year, but they're really embracing it. And I do think that is fun for the conference. It's fun for the discourse. But Colorado for their own sake probably need to probably need to, you know, back it up. And it's going to be a lot tougher when you can never sneak up on anyone. The other ones Utah, I feel like Kyle winning him like he, he just felt like he didn't want to be there. And he was so like, Oh, yeah, big 12, whatever. He didn't even fake being excited to be in the conference. So I was kind of annoyed with that. You know, they announced that they put the head coach and waiting tag back on the defensive coordinator after it was stripped off for a couple years. I think he said that because Utah's playing Miami in Las Vegas in 2027, he said, I will be the coach then. So I think I think Kyle Wittingham is looking for one final season and ride off in the sun. But he just he just doesn't seem he's not even faking excitement, which I was hoping he would. But you know, we all knew he didn't want to be in the big 12. Cam Rising. And then you know, he has like, you know, this kind of cowboy energy to him. And it's fun. I'm not going to take anything away from him too much. But he he again has no problems. You know, being the villain, he BYU TV, they had a stop. So every coach and one player was making a stop with BYU TV the entire time, which is awesome. Good for them. I think it's a little crazy. I mean, their YouTube page that there are look, I want to give credit to like John Kurtz, a guy like John Kurtz, he's getting more views on a lot of his YouTube content than BYU TV is getting on their YouTube content. I'm getting more downloads and listens than BYU TV is getting on a lot of their YouTube pages as well. But they're getting every single coach and one player from every single school, good for them. You know, I don't think they should be getting that preferential treatment, but whatever, like I said, good for them. But Cam Rising went on there and they were asking him about, oh yeah, you know, BYU, Utah, that's a conference game. What do you think's going to, how do you feel the game's going to go down in Salt Lake City when the game's playing? He goes, oh, we're going to kick BYU's ass. And I'm like, oh man, you know, saying that on BYU TV. I mean, I think that's going to be a fun rivalry game. I wish BYU was going to be a little bit better for that game. I hope that, you know, have some of Mike's secret stuff from the original Space game and they could pull off some upset. I think it is going to be an ass kicking. But, you know, Cam Rising saying that on BYU TV, you know, Colorado and Utah both have their own brand, a black hat that they're wearing. And I think it's entertaining. And I get entertainment value out of that with the conference. The last thing from specific teams, before we wrap up with some conference stuff that I took away, it's our friends and Lawrence. Oh man. Lance Leipold and Jalen Daniels were very, very well drilled. They had talking points and they knew exactly what they were going to say anytime that there was a question about health. They did not clue in Melodotson to that at all. As you guys listened, I had Rob Brenton from 610 on and we were talking, there was questions about Jalen Daniels' health and he was pointing out some of the stuff that Lance Leipold and Daniel said down in Las Vegas or over in Las Vegas. I pointed to a quote that preceded that. But then Melodotson, it was out on YouTube and I was surprised that it had not gone viral. But Melodotson when asked about Jalen Daniels, he said, "Yeah, you know, he's still being a vocal leader. It's not the change. Nothing changes if he's not on the field with us." He's just doing his thing in the report. He's like, "Wait, he's not doing stuff?" He's like, "No, his focus right now is recovery, rehab, and trying to be ready for the season." They're like, "Oh, well, he's participating in 7 on 7 and passing drills. You're going up against them." He's like, "No, he might do a little throwing off to the side, but no, he's not doing 7 on 7." I'm like, "Oh my gosh. I don't know what to believe. I don't know what to believe. Again, if you listen to what Lance Leipold and Daniel Daniels are trying to tell you, they're saying he could play next week. I don't think that's the case at all. I was shocked. I was shocked when I saw that on YouTube. And look, if I was a KU fan, I'd be super nervous about it. It'll be interesting to see how many games he plays. I wish the best for the kid. I definitely don't wish ill on anyone or at least not college football players. But man, I don't think that Jalen Daniels is anywhere near as healthy as he or Lance Leipold want you to believe based on some of the stuff that was set at Media Days. My dad works in B2B marketing. He came by my school for career day and said he was a big row as man. Then he told everyone how much he loved calculating his return on ad spend. My friends still laughing at me to this day. Not everyone gets B2B. But with LinkedIn, you'll be able to reach people who do. Get a $100 credit on your next ad campaign. Go to linkedin.com/results to claim your credit. That's linkedin.com/results. Terms and conditions apply. LinkedIn, the place to be to be. Lastly, we'll talk about some of the stuff that Brett Jormark said that made the news. A lot of folks were getting all up in their fields about him saying that the big 12 was the third best conference. I honestly do not see any argument for them not. There's one sports talk here in Kansas City who talked about it and he hates Brett Jormark. Honestly, I'm not a big Brett Jormark fan. I'm not going to go to bat for Brett Jormark. But he was trying to point out that the ACC has clumps in Florida State. They might have some worse teams, but the big 12 doesn't have anyone at their level. I think that's bullshit. Pardon the French. Sorry, mom, for cussing. But I think that's bullshit. I think if you put Florida State or Clemson in this conference, they're not running away with this. They're on the exact same plane that K-State Utah and Oklahoma State are. If they were in this conference, yeah, they would be part of it. They may be pre-season betting favorites, but I guarantee you, guarantee you that they would not just walk through this that some people, including people in the Kansas City media, would try to say when they were faced with that quote. I don't think there is any argument against the big 12 being a better conference than the ACC. That's not to say that Florida State or Clemson, that those two teams might not be better than Utah, K-State, Oklahoma State. I don't know how the season will play out, but to act like they are on a whole different level, whole different playing field than the top of the big 12 is absolutely asinine. I do not buy that for a second. The second thing that caused a little bit of stirs your mark going out there and saying they're the deepest conference. And again, I think if he would have said top to bottom most competitive, that's fine. But when you're trying to set the narrative, sow the seeds for getting multiple teams in the college football playoff this year, you have to try to set those narratives early. And that's what Brett Jormark was trying to do with those two quotes. Again, I think it would depend on what your definition of deepest. I wouldn't say that. I would say the SEC is probably deeper than the big 12. Again, with the big 10, I think Ohio State is on a different plane than anyone else in the big 12. Let's see what Oregon looks like. But again, I think you could make an argument that, you know, the big 12 might be deeper than the big 10. Again, they have that one team and they have some of those brands. We'll see how everything plays out. But again, I don't think it was as insane as some of the folks tried to make it out for your mark also said, hey, they're they've really given up on big 12 Mexico and went from football and basketball. And now it sounds like soccer and baseball and softball. I don't think big 12 Mexico is ever going to happen. I thought it could have been a good thing. But again, I think Brett Jormark has some of these ideas. He doesn't have the buy and I don't think all the ideas are great. The one thing that I do agree with him and I would love to see some more information. He was really talking in generalities. So he didn't give a lot of specifics. And this was the final thing. And it caused a little bit of a stir amongst big 12 fans talking about how the big 12 is going to be looking at alternative kickoff times for football to maximize TV exposure. And I know a lot of big 12 fans were freaking out a little bit. And look, I think this is a good thing. I think this is a good thing. I think you need to do as much as you can within reason to get as few of your games on ESPN plus as possible. And again, I hate that college sports has turned into maximize dollars and all that type stuff. And look, I don't think the big 12 is ever going to compete with the big 10 or the SEC. I don't think that we need to sell our solar completely blow everything up to just chase more dollars. But I do think having the best TV exposure you can and minimizing ESPN plus games and not having eight games a week on ESPN plus, I think that's going to be important. I love ESPN plus. I think ESPN plus is great. I think ESPN plus it has been a great thing for the big 12, especially some of the non revenue sports. But specifically, when it gets to football, look, I don't want to see half the conference games on ESPN plus, and you're completely boxed out of ABC. ABC is going to be wire to wire SEC the entire season long. You're not getting anything on ABC from 11 to a clock to traditional night game. Those three spots, they're never going to be there. You might get a couple ESPN games, but again, a lot of that's going to be SEC. You're not getting anything on Fox at 11 a.m. You can get Fox afternoon when baseball's not around, you're going to be able to have some Fox night. You might be able to get some Fox after dark. I think you're going to see Oregon and Washington and USC and UCLA playing some Fox after dark games, but maybe you can get some after dark games on Saturday. But I do think you're going to have to get creative. I do think you're going to have to be flexible to get some of those games out there. Something that my friend Philip Slavin from the 1012 network, host of the 1012 pod, the flagship show, the 1012 network, he tweeted out, hey, West Virginia, UCF Cincinnati, would you guys be fine playing one home game a year at 11 a.m. local 10 a.m. getting that game on ESPN plus or Fox or ESPN two or Fox Sports one. I think that needs to be something that's looked into. I think that each of those three teams should play one game a year that ends up on ESPN two or Fox Sports one that kicks off at 10 a.m. central 11 a.m. local over on the East Coast. I think that we need to have at least one after dark game on ESPN every single week. That might be a little much, but you have five teams that can do it. That would come to two games for most of them after dark. Maybe that's a little much. Maybe it's, hey, all of you are going to have to play one after dark game, which would be what seven p.m. local for the Arizona schools, eight p.m. local for Colorado, Utah, most of the year. I think you need to sign them up for that. I think you need to go to Fox and say, hey, we will play an after dark game on Fox Friday night after, you know, the big 10 game on Fox Friday night because most of those weeks is going to be Fox or big 10 games on Fox. I think you need to look into maybe even on Thursday, this couldn't happen. A lot of these would not happen this year. A lot of this would have to happen next year because I think for Thursday and Friday games has to be announced, you know, way ahead of time. But I think you need to look into Thursday. Could you lease some games to Amazon and have them kick off, you know, five p.m. on the East Coast, four p.m. on the central on Thursday night and have that lease to Amazon and have that as the lead into their Thursday night NFL game. I think you need to get creative. I think you need to look at different ways of maximizing eyeballs on Thursday, Friday, Saturday. I'm not advocating for going and playing games on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. I'm not going that far. But again, if you could have some sort of package and, you know, I think I think the ACC should look into this. I think the Mac should look into this. I think anyone with schools in the Eastern Time Zone should look into an advocating for their conference to get some sort of deal with Amazon to have a college football game that leads into their NFL game. Again, I don't know if that's going to work. I might just be throwing stuff against the wall. But I think that's some of the creative thinking that needs to go on to maximize stuff. I'm fine with trying to get, you know, bigger games on ESPN on Friday, a 7 p.m. Friday game going head to head with a big 10 game. You're not going to win a ratings war, but I'll ask you this, you know, would you rather case state plays? No one wants their own team to play on Fridays, right? You know, so you're not going to say, "I want case state to play Friday game every year." But as a big 12 fan, wouldn't you want one game, maybe the second or third best game every week, to go on ESPN, get maybe, you know, 2 million viewers going head to head with a big 10 game on Fox versus maybe being on ESPN 2 and going head to head with three or four different games, or maybe even falling to Fox Sports 1 or ESPN Plus. I think they need to maximize and leverage that second or third or fourth best game every week and try to get that on a Friday night. Try to make sure that's on TV instead of being relegated down to an ESPN 2 or a Fox Sports 1 or ESPN Plus. I think that's the type of creativity and flexibility you need to give to maximize the viewers and the interest in the conference. I know not everyone agrees and even goes against my instinct of trying to play in the TV ratings and money games that college sports, specifically college footballs devolved into, but I think that I think that when the opportunities arises, you have to try to take advantage of some of them. So those were my takeaways from talking times, talking season, media day stuff. I wouldn't imagine anything too crazy happens, you know, over the next couple of weeks with SEC and Big Ten and ACC media days, I, you know, there's going to be all sorts of conference or alignment rumors with the ACC. I don't think Florida State or Clemson are coming to the Big 12. I don't want them. I'm going to stay at 16. I don't care. I don't want to kill off the ACC, but I'm sure there's going to be everyone who's trying to get clicks. We'll be talking about it. That's not not the game we're playing here. If Will Howard is doing media days for Ohio State, I'm sure there will be interesting quotes that come out. There's already been a couple interesting things that have come out. I'm not going to trash Will Howard, but claiming he had to be a superhero at K-State was certainly eyebrow raising. So we'll see if he says anything during media days. We probably, unless it's really crazy, we're probably not going to spend any time talking about it on here. I'm just ready for football. Like I said, we have a big week coming up. If everything goes as planned, tomorrow we'll have a July recruiting update with Drew Galloway, Wednesday, the Big 12 dream road trip with my brother Alan. And then Thursday and Friday, we have a hind enemy line in summer school with Houston and Arizona State. So that's all we have. Ford Chauncey, the best dog in the world. My name's Scott McFarland. We love you guys and go cats. Hail to the purple. Hail to the white. Wildcat in spirit. Wildcat in fight. Hail alma mater from sea to sea. Onward forever. Hail victory.
