I know you have heard them doing primers for K-State vs. West Virginia, and a handful of big 12 game of the week games as well. He is one half of the greatest duo on the mic in all the podcast land and a member of the 10-12 network. I have the one and only Brandon Phoenix from the Raspy Voice Kids. Brandon, welcome to the show. Welcome to Bosco's boys, and I hope you're staying cool. It's June 28th as we're recording this. It's going to be July when it's published. It's the heat of summer. I hope you're doing well. It's hot, man, but it's good. I like the heat. I prefer that over the winter any time, any day. I'm glad to be in with Bosco's boys. You know I got love for you guys. E-Maw, one of my favorite sayings in all of council, about not just the big 12, and I appreciate the kind words. Thank you for saying those nice things about the duo of the Raspy Voice Kids. Well, I do disagree. I'm much more of a polar bear. I'm team cold over team hot, but, you know, we all can't agree on everything. But I'll jump in. Before we talk about this upcoming season, I'm going to go back to last year because I like Neil Brown. I've always been a Neil Brown fan, but going into last season on my predictions episode, I was like, "Look, I think Neil Brown's fired by Halloween is what I think I said." And then they end up with a 9-win season. What was last season like for, you know, a West Virginia fan? When you look at that rollercoaster, did you see 9-wins coming? Were you a believer? Did that shock you like it shocked some of the big 12 nation? Believer, are you crazy? I picked Neil Brown and company to go 4-8. I thought he was inspired by half season. At best. Maybe sooner. I really do not believe in anything he was just doing. I did not trust the client. And the man proved me so wrong. And it was great to go through that because there's nothing I like more than being wrong when it comes to whether or not West Virginia is going to win. So when they went out there and they did their thing, they put together a fantastic offensive season primarily on the ground. They played enough defense to win games and they made us all happy because nothing makes anybody more happy than winning. You know that. Any problem you have is fixed by winning. And the Mountaineers went out and they did that. Nine wins last season. The Mountaineer faithful are very happy, very pumped coming into this season. We compared it to some of the great off seasons in the past 2006, after the Mountaineers won the Sugar Bowl 2018 with Greer coming in. There's a lot of palpable excitement in Morgantown and around the state this time of year. So my question is if things don't go as planned, is Neil Brown back on the hot seat or did last season give him enough, you know, goodwill that even if you come up a little short this year, that he'll be back or is it still, hey, you know, you don't have to win 10 games, but if you only win six, if you only win five, maybe you will be, you know, an analyst for, you know, Auburn next season. I can handle this for Auburn. War Eagle real quick, but I'll tell you this. There's no way Neil Brown gets fired. He just signed an extension. Rem Baker gave him that extension. Rem Baker, we believe in and trust. We love that guy. He's been a part of the rest of his podcast. We trusted things. He says he believes in Neil is going to give him time. So it doesn't really matter what he does. He'll go out four and eight, three and nine. It would still be back in Morgan up town next year. You're looking at a team that has their guy and that is going to be consistent with who they have at the helm. Yeah. And again, I was someone, it came down to Neil Brown, Chris climbing around the time. K state was making the hire. I wanted him fired because I think he is going to win a big 12 title with West Virginia. So part of me as a K state fan was like, man, could have got him out of the conference, but, but I agree with you. I think it's only a matter of time before you really start stringing stuff together. Last year, I thought Gary Green was one of the biggest positive surprises in the conference. And in a league that everyone loves their guy at quarterback. You know, you talk to everyone around the conference outside of a handful of schools that don't know who they're starting quarterback is. K state fans think Avery Johnson is going to be the guy. K U fans sing Jalen Daniels. Iowa state Brock go back everyone. I could name a lot of them, but green is such an intriguing player. What do you guys think you have in them? Can you take it to another level and what's the ceiling for him when you compare him to some of the other quarterbacks in the league? So Gary Green was one of the highest rated. If not the highest rated quarterback in the big 12 last year by pro football focus. He has a tremendous big time throw percentage. And that is a real stat. So don't think I'm just saying that it's a real thing big time throw. And then we all know what he can do with his legs. The guy can run. And in college football, if you couldn't run, then you can win. And it's been proven over and over again. Morgan town knows about this. Every really successful team we've had has had a mobile quarterback. Gary Green is no different. We believe that Gary Green has the ability to take this team to 10 wins. With the basement being a six win season in my estimation. I would imagine they go eight and four because nobody's perfect and things break the wrong way from time to time. But we believe in Gary Green. Now my brother Jeremy, he doesn't believe in him as much as I do. I certainly don't believe in him as an NFL quarterback. But from the words or from the mouth of I also hate it. That's me Brandon Phoenix, AKI also hate it. I believe in Gary Green. I think he's going to do big things this year. I love it before I ask a little bit more about this upcoming season. I want to give a shout to our sponsors at Charlie hustle. Not only are they sponsoring me. Not only are they sponsoring the Raspy voice kids, but they're sponsoring the entire 10 12 network. Folks, they just wrapped up the big eight road show. So if you're a West Virginia, Virginia fan listening and saying, Scott, I don't care about the big eight. Don't worry. I had a little easy, easy sneak peek of what might be coming down the road for the entire conference. Not only did they have the great big eight gear, but they had that great big 12 gear right before the big 12 tournament. They're going to have great case states have great West Virginia stuff dropping a little bit closer to the season. So trust me, folks, when I say you need to be following them on social media, Twitter and Instagram. So you can see the drops as they come Charlie hustle vintage made fresh. So we're about a month out from spring ball. Maybe at this point, maybe it's like two months out from spring ball and a month out from fall camp preseason camp opening up. You mentioned it, you're, you're, you're tentatively saying eight and four split in the difference between a 10 win ceiling or season in a six win floor. Is that where you think most of Mountaineer fans are the eight, eight, nine win type expectations or where does most of the fan base think this season will go. Oh, no, I think most most fans have there are full of Kool-Aid. If you know what I mean, they're drinking that Kool-Aid. It's about is spike with mountain moonshine. They believe that the minimum is eight to nine wins in Morgantown. They really believe that we should be a contender for the conference championship. I'm not as high as most people. I'm not as low as Vegas. I'm not as low as most of the experts. You know, Vegas has been over under at six and a half. And if I was a betting man, I'd take that every day of the week to be the over for sure. But most people in Morgantown, most people in the state, most fans across the nation, who root for the old gold or blue are saying minimum eight to nine wins. And if not, some of them want to call for Neil's head because they're going to stay last year with an anomaly. I'm not that guy. I'm okay. I'm okay. Like I said, six and six. Not what I prefer. Eight and four. I would be okay. Ten and two. I'd be ecstatic. I love it. So when you're looking at this team, where on the field are you most confident? And when you're sitting here saying, Hey, I can pinpoint right here. I feel confident. I know what we're going to get. And I feel good about it. Have you heard of Jean White? Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. I I'm not a casual. I'm not a casual. Yeah, you know about Jean White. You know about CJ Donaldson. My brother wants you to know about Jalen Anderson. He's a he's a third string back, but he's very competent. Did his thing a couple of years ago, Oklahoma State. We have running backs. We have a stable. We have guys who can go and we have an offensive line that can provide the lanes they need. We also have six foot seven cold Taylor coming back at Python. He is a big time presence that can make a difference for whether or not we run the ball well. In addition, Gary green can run the ball well. I believe strongly in this Mountaineer backfield. I tell you what I look around the big 12. And again, I'm biased a case that I think it's too good running backs. I look down the road. I guess K you has a couple of good ones. Oklahoma says Ollie Gordon and I feel like West Virginia. The backfield and I just talked with Phillip Slavin about this earlier today. I think people are overlooking West Virginia's backfield because there are so many good running backs. I mean, West Virginia wasn't in the conference at the time, but you think back to the early 2010s. It's all about quarterback wide receiver combos. I don't know if there's ever been a conference that is so deep team by team at running back. Yeah, I agree. Ollie Gordon, of course. Then the thing with that is for my money after Ollie Gordon is James White. I believe in that guy is so strong. I believed in him after the spring last year. He didn't really get a chance until four games in, but then you saw what he did. I'm a big believer in Jeheem White. I'm a big believer in CJ Donaldson. I think that these guys can compliment the rest of the backs in the big 12 and show that this is possibly the best running back conference in the nation. I don't think it's possible. I think 100% is there. We'll go inverse. Again, I'm not trying to get too pessimistic. It's still June. People are going to be listening in July. Everyone should be excited. But where on the field do you still have some questions that you'd like to see answered before the season kicks off in late August? I got two places, man. I'm not sure about the wide receiver room. Hudson Clement, a.k.a. Huddy Tuddy at Duke and Ball. He earned a scholarship last year, but he's not a number one receiver. He makes plays nonstop, but he's not a number one receiver. You got to find somebody else who can compliment him. We got the transfer from Oklahoma State. You got trailing Ray who did some good things. Might have a breakout season. I'm just not sold on the wide receiver room. Another place that I'm not sure about is the defensive line. And you know, if the defensive line goes, everything else is better. Your linebackers are protected. Your secondary doesn't have to cover as long. I just don't know about that defensive line. My brother is questioning the secondary, but we've had good transfers in. Highly rated safeties, Aubrey Burks leading all of them and highly rated corners. Even though they've not played big 12 competition, pro football focus loves them and I'm starting to love them too. Before we finish off, one more shout out to our other sponsor, Manhattan Brewing Company. It's never too easy. We start daydreaming about those college football tailgates for the third straight season row. Towney Wheat is the tailgate beer of the year. So whether you're a wheat guy and IPA guy or you like some multi stuff, I guarantee something you like is there waiting for you at Manhattan Brewing Company. If you're heading out to West Virginia, if you're probably going to have to drive. I don't know if you can take beer on an airplane, but grab a couple four packs of drive out to West Virginia and trade for some moonshine while you're out tailgate before the games and take some Manhattan Brewing Company wherever you go, this football season. Before you know it, it's going to be time to be drinking on an ice cold Manhattan Brewing Company beer in the parking lot. Bill Snyder, family stadium, or all across the country for some away games this season. I'll ask you this. This is one of the questions I've asked everyone. We're on the schedule. How excited is West Virginia fans for the case state game in the hierarchy because I look at West Virginia schedule. And above all of them, I can come up with a reason for almost every team to say, Oh, man, that case that game could be huge. But I look at your guys schedule. You have Penn State coming in to open the season. You guys are going to be taking over Heinz Field or whatever it's called, you know, lowercase p pit, you know, you get Utah as well. You have a fun schedule. It's a tough schedule, but it's a fun one. So again, I'm not expecting it to year one, especially with Penn State and pit in the non conference. But when you look at it, where does that case state game rank in the hierarchy for you guys? The last thing you want to hear when you need your auto insurance most is. Thank you for calling. USA means United Services Automobile Association and its affiliates San Antonio, Texas. Look, man, it's always fun to play the purple Wildcats. Like you said, we've got the Nittany Alliance historically a team that we struggle to be and we celebrate when we finally get them gone. We've got a chance this year. It's only a 12 point spread. Only I'm kidding. It's ridiculous at home in Morgantown. In August, pit, of course, always a big deal going to Acres your stadium. It really is high in this field. But we'll call it what they would want us to call it. It's Morgantown North by the time we get there. Kansas State is always fun because you guys are always contenders. You're always a tough football team. And I have nothing but respect. And like I said, email every man a wildcat. I love it. So I just love the tradition. I love the pageantry. I love Bill Snyder, Bill and what Chris Kleinman doing his thing with. I have a lot of respect for you guys. It's going to be a lot of fun. I don't know what the fan base thinks of it. You know, that's one of the things about being about near is that we don't have any real rivalries. There's nobody in their conference when we look at them and we say, circle that game. Cincinnati wants to be that and listen to me, Bearcats. You want to be that, but you know, I want to day Halle Berry. Yes, I know she's not in her prime, but that's where I want to be. She's not it for me and you're not it for us. That's for Cincinnati. But for the rest of you guys, it's always a fun game when good football is played. I think that's going to be the case this season. All right, so I'm going completely rogue. I didn't have this on my outline, but since you brought up Halle Berry, who's on your Mount Rushmore of all time celebrity crushes. Because I didn't care who you are. I don't care how old or young. If she's not on your Mount Rushmore, she's at Lisa contender. So I want to know your top four celebrity crushes. Okay, so Tiffany Amber Thiessen, a Kelly Kepowski from my youth. Okay, Topsy on a Holly Aka Ashley Banks again from my youth. Then we're going to Raji P. Henson because I love me some Taraji. And then we're to finish with Halle Berry because she's, you know, they got a whole song about it. Halle Berry. Go. She's the go. I again, if she's not on someone's Mount Rushmore, she's at least a contender. I love it. The final thing, and I'm asking this to everyone, what is something you would tell K state fans is they're putting together their own big 12 scouting reports. Anyone who's listening who's putting together their own power rankings for the big 12. What would you tell just a generic K state fan who hasn't done their deep dive on West Virginia yet. Something that they need to make sure they're paying attention to. Maybe they need to take an extra, you know, 15, 30 minutes when they're putting stuff together. When they're looking at everything and researching everything West Virginia football for this season. That's a great question because everybody knows about Garrett Green. Most people know about James White. People have forgot about C.J. Donaldson. I would say I like a linebacker named Ben Cutter. Ben Cutter is a tough kid, hard nose. He's a typical, prototypical, I should say West Virginia linebacker from back in the day. I like that kid a lot and I hope he gets a lot of shine this year. I hope he takes the next step, gain some weight and shows that he belongs. K state, watch out for Ben Cutter. Perfect. Now tell the boneheads. That's what we call our fans. Anything you would like. Plug any projects that you and your brother got going on and where they can find all your stuff. All off season, all football season long.
