Telling The TRUTH
080313 Telling The Truth 28 Minute Program
[music] You're listening to "Telling the Truth" from Triple T. Christian Youth Ministries, "Telling the Truth to and through Teenagers." Here is Triple T. founder and president, George Dooms. "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. How strong are you in the Lord?" Deuteronomy 31-6, Nooking James says, "Be strong and of good courage. Do not fear, nor be afraid of them. For the Lord your God, He is the one who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you." What a fantastic series of promises are packed into this one verse of Scripture. As you look again at Deuteronomy 31-6, "Know that God is wanting us to be strong and very courageous, not to be afraid of people." Why? For the Lord your God, He is the one who goes with you. Isn't that magnificent to understand how great God is, that He will not leave you, He will not forsake you, but He will be with you, so stay strong. How strong are you? Are you strong enough to share your faith in Jesus Christ with people who need to know the Lord? Are you strong enough to find a Christian prayer partner? Are you strong enough to read God's Word every single day? Are you strong enough to take the gospel to people who need the Lord? I hope you are, because God says, "Be strong and of good courage." We want you to know that God and you make a majority. So trust in the Lord with all of your heart, be not in your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your path. Be strong and of good courage, for to this people you shall divide as an inheritance the land which I swore to their fathers to give to them. Joshua 1-6, New King James Version. When God makes a promise, He will fulfill that promise. And God gave a promise to His children. He gave it to Joshua, and Joshua is to implement what God's plan will be for the folk who will follow God's direction. The same is true for you and me today, even though we are not living in the same circumstance. We are living in a nasty, terrible, mixed-up, messed-up world. But in the midst of it all, God is greater than all the people around us, so we too are to be strong and of good courage. God wants us to trust Him so completely that we will know that He is going to direct every path in our life. Every step we take, He is going to be with us, and will give us direction if we will trust Him. So the four things that we constantly ask you to do are, number one, pray without ceasing. Secondly, read God's Word and heed God's Word, and thirdly, fellowship with other believers, and then do the work of an evangelist. Share your faith in Jesus Christ with people who need the Lord. Tell them to admit they sinned to believe on Christ to confess Him publicly. The Lord God is sharing with Joshua a very personal message. Listen, Joshua 1-7, New King James Version. Only be strong and very courageous that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses might serve and commanded you. Do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left that you may prosper wherever you go. In other words, obey the Word of God. Do what the Bible says to do, the way it says to do it, precisely as it ought to happen. When you do this, you can be strong and very courageous. This phrase is consistent and constant in the Bible as God speaks to people in a personal, pertinent way. So let it be yours. Only be strong and very courageous. Read the Word of God, pray without ceasing, and get another Christian to pray with you, and then together work out the time frame to share the good news of the saving power of the Lord Jesus with people who need the Lord. As you go with the Gospel, be strong and very courageous. Watch God make you usable and use you to impact your world. It all starts in your heart and then in your head and then in every fiber and facet of your being. So go with the Gospel today. Why not adopt this very, very magnificent promise from God's Word? First, given to Joshua, but you can personify it if you will. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage. Do not be afraid nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. Joshua 1-9, New King James. God's commanding and we need to be responding. Be strong. Be of good courage. Don't be afraid and don't be dismayed. Why? For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. God has a divine design for you, a perfect plan for your life, and He wants you to follow His Word and read it and then do what He says to do and to pray consistently. As you do, pray with others who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and know that when we pray together, where two or three are gathered in my name Jesus said, I'll be in the midst of you. So you can claim the promises of God's Word and you can go with the gospel to people who need the Lord. And as we do this, as we put this strategy into effect, going one by one to people who need Jesus, lies will be changed, total circumstances rearranged through Jesus Christ. Our God is kind and considerate and compassionate and long-suffering, but when He has set a decree and that law is broken, when we do not follow what He says to do, the consequences can be eternally terrible. Listen to Joshua 118, New King James Version. Whoever rebels against your command and does not heed your words in all that you command Him shall be put to death, only be strong and of good courage. God wants us to understand that He has a plan for us. We are to follow that plan and share with other people what that plan is and if the people rebel against God's plan, God's tolerance only lasts so long and then He says, that's it. The Bible says, the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. We need to share that word with people so they will know that God does love them. Jesus died for them, He was buried, He rose again, and if we will believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, we will receive the gift of God eternal life through Christ Jesus. But it's up to us to make the determination, the decision and to present the possibility to people who need the Lord. Will you? Somebody out there needs to know that Jesus Christ died for their sins, was buried and rose again. Will you tell them how to go to heaven? God will protect you against the onslaught of the devil, against the enemies of Him and you. Listen to what he promised Joshua in chapter 10 verse 25, New King James Version. Then Joshua said to them, "Do not be afraid nor be dismayed." You're listening to Telling the Truth from Triple T Christian Youth Ministries, Telling the Truth to and through teenagers. Joshua in turn is telling the people what God has promised. If you believe the promises of God, if you will share what God has said with people who maybe don't understand the scriptures, if you will enlighten them by exposing them to the Word of God, wonderful things can happen consistently. In Joshua's words and words to him are the words be strong and of good courage. We need to do that also. Will you? Always, almost without exception, we are told to be strong and very courageous. Of good courage is a wonderful attribute and it helps us to pray, read the Word of God, to find other individuals who will agree with us that the Bible is totally true and then to take the glorious gospel of the Lord Jesus to people who need the Lord. It's up to you and me. Who do you know who doesn't know the Lord? Who will go with you to take the plan of salvation to someone who needs Jesus today? Caleb and Joshua were the spies with good reports. [Music] You're listening to Telling the Truth from Triple T Christian Youth Ministries, Telling the Truth to and through teenagers. Caleb and Joshua were the spies with good reports. Listen to Caleb's story. And now behold, the Lord has kept me alive as he said that these 45 years, ever since the Lord spoke this word to Moses, while Israel wandered in the wilderness and now, here I am this day, 85 years old. As yet, I am as strong this day as I was on the day that Moses sent me. Just as my strength was then, so now is my strength for war, both for going out and for coming in. Now, therefore, give me this mountain of which the Lord spoke in that day. When God makes a promise, he will fulfill that promise. Did Caleb get the mountain? Yes, he did. God made it possible. Caleb was 85 years old, still strong, still courageous, still welling to serve the Lord with every fiber of his being. Whatever your age is, whatever your circumstance might be, God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that you can ask or think. Trust him, read his word, pray, share, and help people come to know Jesus Christ personally. He who wins souls is wise. Are you a soul winner? Are there people for whom you are concerned? Will you go to them with God's wonderful plan of salvation? Every Saturday at 7.27 p.m., you are invited to attend a live youth event at Triple T, 13,000 U.S. 41 North at Boone Building Harmony Road, midway between I-64 and Evansville Regional Airport. Every first Saturday, a good news club for ages 6 to 9 is available in a separate room. For more information, call 812-867-2418 or visit www.tripletchristianyouth.org. Watch, stand fast in the faith. Be brave, be strong, let all that you do be done with love. 1 Corinthians 16, 13, and 14. That really follows the admonition that we've just shared, especially from Joshua, about being strong and very courageous. We've got some strong people that have come to Triple T to share the gospel out of county fairs, and we've been privileged to go hither and yon and in between. We've already been in a bunch of county fairs, and we've got one more to go in Mount Carmel Ag Days now. In fact, this morning, shortly after the broadcast, some of our traveling tigers and part of the Teen Missions International team will be gathering in Owensville, Indiana at the Owensville Watermelon Festival Parade. We'll be unfurling our Christian flags and walking across Owensville, so if you're in the area, be sure to come and see us. Also, be sure to stop by at Mount Carmel Ag Days, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. We'll give you free ice water. Between 10 and 19, we'll get you a free Bible, and you'll be able to know a lot about Triple T. You'll be able to also give us the answers that you have about teenagers because we want to survey you if you're willing to stop by. We look forward every year to being back in my hometown of Mount Carmel, Illinois at Ag Days, and so this year we'll be there just in a few days. So again, you're invited to come by the tent and get your ice water and say hi. We have with us today Ben Thorpe, and Ben is from Idaho. He's actually from a lot of places, but right now that's what he calls his home base, and Ben has been the leader on what we call the Scotland team. This is a team that was supposed to spend the summer in Scotland, but circumstances prevented them from staying there. They were there just about a week, and they came back here to join the fair share team, and they have been out sharing the gospel out across the tri-state, and now they have gone back to their homes all over the United States. But while Ben is here, we wanted to ask him some questions, and the first one I'm going to ask him is Ben, what do you think about the tri-state, and please be positive? Well George, the first thing I've noticed is it's very hot here, and coming from the Pacific Northwest, I'm not quite used to the humidity and the heat, but it's a beautiful place to live, definitely that you can tell that it is really the heartland of America, beautiful green fields, a lot of wonderful agriculture and beautiful hardwood forests. I'm very pleased to be here, and everyone I've met so far, especially here at Triple T, we have been incredibly gracious, and kind, and very welcoming, true to that American spirit. Well we're glad about that, because not everybody around here is that nice, but we have a reputation of most of us being kind of friendly, and so here in Illinois and in Kentucky we call it the tri-state area, we're delighted that people from all over the United States have been here, and of course you brought a team of teenagers from hither and yon, and in between. That's true. I'm not sure where all yours have been from, because we've had two teams here, and all together they've been from I think about 15 different states, but yours have been, I know from somebody I think from California, and well you can tell us where they're from. We have team members with us from Oregon and Idaho over where I live, we have a couple team members from Ohio and Pennsylvania. I know that the other team, not the one that I'm leading, has a team member from about 30 miles from here, which is very cool. His family has been involved with team missions for several generations. His father went and all of his older siblings have gone, and now it's his turn, and they always start out their family trip with a first-time event here with Triple Team Ministries, which is great, but I have teams from all of the United States, from Florida to Oregon. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, kind of the ranch out in Boise, Idaho, you have a restaurant that has your location, and you took time away from all that, you and your wife Brenda and your kids, and came here, and what a delight and what a joy it's been to have you with us. To have you just being a servant for Jesus' sake in a very different environment than what you've been doing out there, so tell us about your business and what you do during the real world work a day. George, like you said, I own a restaurant. My wife and I own a restaurant called the Cornerstone Bistro. The stone that the builders rejected was made the cornerstone. After Jesus Christ, it is, in our mind, a ministry endeavor. We seek to be missionaries through our restaurant to the staff I hire. I do work quite a bit with people that have had substance abuse problems or that have had difficult defining employment elsewhere, so I do some job training as part of that, and then with the restaurant, we do a very seasonal or locally sourced menu, so I'm only open on Friday and Saturdays for that. I do a five-course meal, and it's all done by reservations, and then during the week, the job that actually pays the bill, I work at a drug and alcohol rehab facility as their head chef, and they were gracious enough this summer because they believe in what we're doing with teen missions to let me have some time off to come and lead this trip. I really had no reason I couldn't come, and Betty Lane, a wonderful lady with teen missions when I was talking to her this spring, asking about doing some training, asked if my wife and I could lead a team, and I, before even knowing where we were going, said yes. God had told me that if she asked me I had to say yes, and apparently he sent me to Scotland twice once in the UK and once in Indiana, and so here we are. I was happy to do it, and it's nice to have a change of pace. We had a privilege of taking the Scotland team, as we call them, to Scotland and Indiana last Sunday after services that we had, and it's been a real delight and a joy to have all these kids here, but the main thing is to be able to share the gospel and to give free ice water and not only that, but to survey people about teenagers, to offer Bibles, and then to share God's plan of salvation and see so many people say yes. I'm admitting that I've sinned, I'll believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, I'll confess him publicly. The other thing that interests me, especially in your situation out in Idaho, and you were the first one to break the news to me because I didn't know that Mission Aviation Fellowship had moved their headquarters from California to Idaho, and you say that you have some involvement with them, and also that they have a museum that has the fuselage of the airplane that the Aca Indians tore up in Ecuador. So tell us just a little bit about your MAF connection. Well, I started out, sort of by accident, the director John Boyd, the current President of Mission Aviation Fellowship, is a customer of mine, had been coming to my restaurant. He lives in middle to Idaho where I live. It's the place we opened our restaurant initially before moving to Caldwell, Idaho, and he and his wife and children had been coming in and started inviting me to church, not knowing that I was a Christian, and ended up going to church with them. I go to Eagle Christian Church out there with John Boyd and his family, and through that relationship picked up some catering operations for MAF, and because I was one, I was very excited to do some work with them. I'm very fond of them when I was younger. I too, like you George, had the desire to be a Mission Aviation Fellowship pilot, but my eyesight is terrible, so it wasn't a good fit for me, and it turns out that I am afraid of heights, so when I get up an airplane I get a little bit anxious. It seemed like a really neat thing to do, but God didn't have that in store for me, and I love what they do, and I do catering for them, and now I'm mostly their primary caterer for their large events, and for their board meetings, because I like to give them a really nice product, and let me say I cut them a deal, because I love what they do, and I believe in what they do, and I know on the several occasions I've done ministry outside of the country in Papua New Guinea, and in parts of Africa, that they really are a strong backbone that helps support those ministries, and they saved us on several occasions. In case you don't know about MAF, it's the Mission Aviation Fellowship, and it is a mission to missionaries, and they have light aircraft that they're able to fly supplies in people from place to place, and Teen Missions International has gone and hacked out the jungle area so that an airstrip can be built out there in the middle of nowhere, and it's a very fascinating ministry, a great ministry that God has used for a long, long time, and unlike you, I feel very comfortable in an airplane. I do not like heights unless I'm seated in an airplane. Then I just feel like I'm as safe as anything can be, because it's solid territory underneath me, and I trust the pilot most of the time. I learned to fly when I was in high school with the idea of being an MAF pilot, but God had another plan. Well, stay tuned, folk. If you will, we're going to tell you some more about what's going to be happening in the days ahead. In fact, I'm going to ask Ben to stay here and ask him a couple of other real quick questions, so don't go away because there is something that you can learn if you don't turn the dial, or if you don't go away right now, so hang in there because we've got some excellent information to share with you, especially about what's happening tonight at Triple T. Stay tuned. Tonight is Big Splatter Triple T, our annual watermelon night. It begins with the seed-spitting contest. We'll have guys versus girls standing out front of the building and trying to spit toward the doors, and sometimes they even get it up on the roof. It's amazing what kids can do. And then we're going to have the watermelon roll. This is an uphill downhill relay race with a watermelon going down, watermelon going up, and at least two or three teams competing with each other. And then comes the Big Splatter. We put teams around a blanket. We put a watermelon in the middle of the blanket, and then the count of one, it goes slightly up, count of two, a little higher. Count of three, it goes into orbit, and somebody pulls the blanket out of the way. The watermelon hits the ground, and it goes splat. And we measure the splat, and whichever piece of watermelon goes the furthest distance from the other piece of that watermelon is measured. And whoever splats the furthest gets to be first in line to eat watermelon at the end of the rally. So it's a fun, fun time, and a great time, and we will be having the team missions team sharing what God has done and what we anticipate is going to do at Ag Days in Mount Carmel. I want to ask Ben some questions. He gave me a little hint about the fact that he went to college in NIAC New York, which is not too far from New York City, and he involved himself or was involved at least on a student radio station there. So tell us about the phenomena that you had from this environs on the outskirts of New York. I was being able to actually be heard in New York City. It was quite interesting. I had a roommate who was very involved with the student radio station and invited me to host with him. Through the student radio we broadcast FM radio, and we had the unique experience of having a very late show on Friday night that went into Saturday morning, and at that time of night a lot of the local radio stations would lower their power, which meant that we could be here very clearly all the way into Manhattan, and we had listeners in Manhattan in New York City, and on several occasions we had people that would send us letters or postcards letting us know that they were listening to us. One case somebody sent pizza to us. That was the best died of the week. But it was a great time. We shared some Christian contemporary music, and on several occasions were blessed with having some at the time very popular young Christian artists perform in our studio, which was a really exciting thing for me as a young person to have that interface with the public through that type of media. That's great. I have a lot of friends who are graduates of NIAC. It's a Christian missionary alliance college, and it's not too far from West Point. No. Right across the river. Right on the Hudson. But Ben, it's been a delight to have you with us this summer, to have your team here, and your wife, and your beautiful kids. And we trust that God's going to really bless you abundantly as you go back to Idaho. And then we're going to trust the Lord to open whatever door He wants you to go through in all of your tomorrow's. Do you have any special prayer requests where we can actually pray for you for your future? I do actually for myself and also for the team members. We're going to be leaving very shortly to go back to Florida for what we call debrief at the end of our mission experience in the summer, where the team members have a chance to review with the team-mentioned staff and former team members what's happened over the summer, and they digest and learn how they can bring what they've learned back into their communities. Specifically experiences of witnessing or sharing the gospel, how they can share that with their churches or with the people around them, and also to build them up and give them some more confidence and strength to reach their families and friends. Many of our team members have family members in the immediate sense and friends that are unsaved. And how do they bring that experience back? Because pray for them that they can be uplifted and motivated to bring this experience back into their everyday life. We'll do that right now. Father, we thank you for Ben and for Brenda and for the team. And God, we pray that you will bless them as they go through the debrief. We thank you for team missions international and for the fact that they have instituted this debrief thing so that the kids don't just come back cold from their mission trip, but they are able to absorb and to rehearse what they have done and to be able to do something about it. And so we pray for your guidance and your direction on Ben and his family and all the team in Jesus' name. Praise you and thank you. Amen. And you who are listening, not only are you invited to come to big splat tonight, but if you haven't seen it yet, we have the life-sized replica of the Old Testament Tabernacle. We're having tours and you need to just call us to make sure we have a tour guide available because we want you to see Jesus in the Tabernacle in the Old Testament. Again, thank you for listening.
